Mountain Toad is my favorite brewery in Golden, and probably in my top five around the greater Denver/Boulder area. Which is saying a lot, since there are so many, and it is so hard to choose! So, why only four stars, you ask? Here's why: Pros: - The beer garden. They are continually making updates to it, and it just keeps getting better and better. - Fur kids. Love that you can bring dogs to the brewery. - Fun food trucks. Always something interesting to try, if we're in the mood for food. - Kombucha. Not everyone's "cup of tea", but nice to have an alternative to beer. Not that we are ever not in the mood for beer... Cons: - Too many (human) kids allowed. Now before you all start hating on me for that comment, especially when I just mentioned that I love that we can bring our fur kids, hear me out. We have been here several times when there have been large groups of children running amuck, mostly unsupervised or under limited supervision, and occasionally disrupting our visit. Of course, this isn't totally Mountain Toad's fault. I'm also all for adults having a place to play where they feel free to bring their kids... but it is a brewery, not a daycare. Your child is adorable. Until he/she interrupts my enjoyment of the venue and causes problems. At which point, it's time for you to go. Judge the room. Same goes for fur kids. And the difference there, and perhaps why it doesn't bother me as much, is that pets are required to be on a leash, and aren't usually running around and knocking over beers. If your child, human or fur, is polite and well behaved, we won't have any problems, and I gladly welcome them. - Cramped on the inside. I don't really know how they would remedy this situation, but it certainly makes it a "only when it's nice outside and we can sit in the beer garden" type of rendezvous spot. Fortunately, it's almost always nice outside in Colorado. Neutral (or So/So): - The beers. Never had anything that disappoints, but never anything that totally wowed me either. (Maybe the Lemongrass Saison? Maybe.) - The workers. Meh. Not bad, not great. I'll take them, but they don't make me feel special or anything. (That's cool. Just give me the beer I ordered, and we're good.) I am almost always satisfied and happy when leaving Mountain Toad, and I will continue to visit for years to come, but the various reasons above are why I just can't quite give them five stars. read more

Brian and Marcus were awesome!! Love this place and love that they have food trucks in the back yard every day. Perfect spot to unwind after a hike. They have great apparel here as well. Beers are delicious and everyone was friendly and welcoming to out of towners. read more

This place is great. The selection of beer is wide and the bartenders are super friendly. The atmosphere has a awesome vibe and there is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Mountain Toad has a great community outreach as well. There is a running group that meets there after their run and the brewery gives anyone that is with the group a discount. The food trucks there are always good and if you arent into what the food truck is offering that night, all kinds of restaurants are offered within walking distance. Definitely try it out if you are looking for a great hangout spot! read more

Great outdoor space and great beers! A definite must try if you are in Golden and you want a great beer. Their selection of beer is expansive and ever changing, there's something here for everyone to enjoy! Really loved the lavender beer here, the subtle notes of lavender were perfect. read more

This place is great! We just moved to town a few months ago and we can walk to this brewery. My husband loves the beer and they have a different food truck every night! They also serve Kombucha for those that are not the beer drinking type. The beer garden has such a great, relaxed feel. Singles, couples and families all mix together- great community feel. read more

The beer was fine. My friend asked for a 16 oz beer & when it came, he asked me if it looked smaller than a 16 oz to me. We asked the bar man (Ross) if it was a 16 (we honestly didn't know) & his response was 'you calling me a liar?!?'. Whoa, WTH. We asked him to repeat himself (we were both dumbfounded) & said again 'you calling me a liar?!?' & pulls out the various types of 16 oz glasses they carry & asked if we were going to order more. His actions were tinged with intimidation. I give the beer experience a 3-4 star, the service less than 1 star. Don't let this man interact with customers. read more

The newest microbrewery in Golden, Colorado did not disappoint. I went on grand opening when they had 4 beers available in 4 very different styles: A wit, amber, IPA, and stout. The wit and stout were hands down my favorite, the IPA was very hop forward and traditional, and the amber had a very well rounded flavor. The environment of this beer was great with an awesome outdoor area, and the staff was very friendly. Although it is in Golden and not the easiest for me to get to regularly it will be a place I go to again when I'm in the area without any issue. A must try for any craft beer fan. One thing to keep in mind is they do not serve food but when I was there a food truck was there. read more

I frequently get toaded and for me it's about the experience of enjoying good company. The beer can be hit or miss, but recently I've enjoyed the Pandan Porter a lot! The atmosphere is very chill and I always have a great time meeting new people around the firepit. The food trucks that rotate in keep it fresh too! Well worth leaving my den. read more

Visited last week and the tanks in back were very dirty appearing. The ryrish, dirt bike dunkel, craft creme ale all had a similar bitter after taste. We have visited many times in the past and have enjoyed the beer. The only friendly staff members were Kelli, Matt the owners/brewers never give us the time of day. Hope they get their act together. Nice location. Would table service be so difficult? Take example from Arvada beer company. read more

Not bad. I like the atmosphere Mountain Toad offers. Indoors or outdoors, bar or table, there's more than one option. I think that the beer was good. I enjoyed the Mt Zion IPA the most. The red was sticky sweet, but so long as it's served cold, I found it enjoyable (have to have my reds cold). The Summer Hop, at 5.5%, was a nice change of pace. I found I had a fruity hop flavor with gentle bitterness, which is good for those new to or not big fans of IPAs (I love IPAs). MT isn't first on my list of places to return to, however, I will return. I think there's a lot of potential and I'd like to see what they offer come winter. I'd give MT a shot if you're looking for a downtown Golden beer that isn't made in the concrete behemoth warehouse. read more

I am surprised to see this place has fewer stars than GCB. I like the beer better here, but I guess that's like my opinion man.

Beer was very good and true to style, and the bar staff was very nice and friendly. The atmosphere was fun, board games and friendly customers made it a great experience. Would recommend it to any beer lover in the golden area. read more

This was a nice little micro brew. We were visiting Denver and someone we encountered at a bowling alley the night before recommended it. So, we hopped on light rail and made our way to Golden. I only had one beer, and it was good, though I wish the bar tender would have described it to me, like is the experience in Omaha micro breweries. They don't offer flights, per se, but they have $2 tasters or $5 can't remember the size, so you can make your own I guess. The service was nice, but it was a slow day, so can't say what happens once it's crowded. read more

I love this place! The beer is great, as well as the food, depending on the food truck out back. Nola on Wednesdays is my favorite. What tops it all off, you can chill out with you dog. Dogs are allowed inside and out. Bring your well trained dog down and enjoy! read more

Great beer! Careful though, alcohol contents are high:) the wit is my favorite. Beer garden is awesome. So cool that the food truck can pull all the way in. Feels like it's actually part of the toad, not on the street/alley like so many breweries. Bartenders are great too. The place gets super packed but even if they can't can't pour your beer immediately, they acknowledge you. All in all, probably my favorite co micro brewery. read more

Love their patio. Like their beer, but it's a little too hoppy for my taste. Don't like all of the children who are running around unsupervised. I'm all for family-friendly breweries, but it really bothers me when I see four kids in the patio throwing rocks and the glass from the fire pit all over the place... and the parents are nowhere to be seen. Bring the kiddos with youand some coloring books, but leaving them outside by themselves is a little ridiculous. With the great weather in Colorado, it'd be nice to sit outside on nice days, but every time we've tried, we experience Kiddie Land it's a big turn-off. read more

Mountain toad is absolutely my favorite brewery in golden. The staff is incredible. Particularly Kelly is a great brewtender.

Have to admit I'm basing this review off of just one quick visit - but this place is awesome! I tried the amber and my husband the IPA. They were delicious.... balanced, multi-dimensional, really good. But my favorite thing is the atmosphere. The inside is comfortable and not overwhelming. And the outdoor patio is really big with a bunch of tables and an open space where kids can play, and it's smoke-free!! Whoo hoo!! Can't wait to come back, I'm pretty sure this will be my Golden brewery of choice this summer. read more

Toad is right in the heart of downtown Golden, making it an easy walk from the bars and Restaurants. The backyard on the place is great. You feel like you are hanging in a friends yard on a bbq-ing afternoon, food truck and all. All this being said Toad is definitely worth stopping by for a tasty Brew. read more

My husband and I used to live a few blocks away from mountain road. It was our haunt and we were there a few times a week meeting friends, going there to reAd, or have going on dates. On a Saturday night when we were in Golden, literally every single brewery was closed at 9 pm, except for Mountain Toad! It was absolutely packed inside, but we managed to snag a couple spaces on a ledge on the patio. The beer was pretty good, but what I loved most about this place is the beautiful back patio! Plenty of picnic tables, twinkling lights, dogs everywhere, and a food truck just a few steps away! There is almost no parking in front of the brewery itself, but just a couple blocks up there is street parking (and no city permit required)! Well worth a visit, especially at night! read more

I've been here 3 times since their grand opening and it's my favorite of the three current microbreweries in Golden. They plan to take credit in the future but are cash only at the moment. I had some problems with cash, and, like Ashley, I think I was charged for a pint of IPA when I ordered a 10oz at one point. That said, I really like that they have 10oz options and I was definitely charged correctly the second time. I like their beer better than Cannonball and overall I like it better than GCB (but GCB's Evolution IPA is still my favorite). The beer garden is overall great, the area is clean (for now) and there is a decent amount of shade (though it would be great if they could make even more shade). I love that it is primarily smoke free but the smoking area kind of defeats the purpose of having it be smoke free. And I love all of the dogs. I haven't had a problem with their staff being aloof, they've always been friendly and quick to serve. No 5th star because they could use better snacks (Toad snacks are a good idea but GCB's free pretzels are tastier and free). This is currently my favorite of the microbreweries in Golden. read more

Stellar new brewery in Golden and Metro Denver. The first time I came here I ordered a flight of the beers they had on tap and really enjoyed all of them. The patio is decked out with a vast amount of space and they have a concrete driveway where they allow food trucks to park in their patio. I like that these guys don't attempt a vast array of types of beer but home in on a handful of beers that are really good. read more

Great atmosphere and decent beer. The best part about the place is the "beer garden" . Tons of space and a great community feel to it. It makes you feel like its ok to bring your 2 yr old here so us parents can enjoy a few beers. I tried all 4 of the beers on tap and all were drinkable. Dissapointed there was no food truck, after we called to confirm there was going to be one, but thats not the breweries fault. I will be back. read more
