A nice selection of different beers. They dont have a kitchen but there is a different food truck everyday of the week. Chill atmosphere.

Craft Beer FTW any day. Great place to hang out, had some awesome IPAs. The place also had a food truck at the back where you can grab some food. Nice staff who were kind enough to explain the different beers and provide more information about bitterness and what it's made from. Small and quaint, with a decent beer garden. This is not the fanciest of places, but perfect for the Colorado folk! Beware this place is PACKED around happy hour. I'm very much NOT a fan of hops, and every beer here includes a least some level of hops flavor. I opt for kombucha when my friends beg me to join them. I don't like the atmosphere, it's always crowded and full of outdoorsy, really hip Coloradans. I'd rather hang out outside at GCB... Which I've done after a blizzard. People obviously really like it, I'm not one of them. Definitely this is the place for a hops lover. read more

First I want to say that the beer is amazing which is why I gave it 2 stars. The service on the other hand is so horrible!! When I walked in it was just me and a big group of about 10 people, they ordered a flight of beer samples and the bartender was obviously pissed of about it. She poured every beer with attitude. At this point I had been there almost ten mins and she still hadn't even acknowledged that I was there. She was so rude to me. All I wanted was a growler, she should've informed me that all they have are metal growlers which cost a little more and made sure that was ok. She grabbed the growler and filled it up and slammed it down on the table and said that will be $45. If I knew it was going to be that much I would not have gotten it. Then when I got home my growler was only 2/3 full!!!!! I was wondering how she filled it so fast. Total rip off!! I feel like she was taking her bad day out on me and other customers. When I was walking out I overheard another customer ask if they can take their beer out to the patio and she rudely said with attitude yeah you can. I enjoyed the beer I did get in my growler but I will NEVER be coming here again. read more

I plan on making this one of my stops on every visit to Golden. As a brewery, the beer is very good. But the atmosphere created by the friendly staff and relaxing outdoor seating makes this place fantastic. Topping it all off is the outstanding food trucks that park on site. Especially Tony Guacamole! I highly recommend the Tatonka burrito or the roulette. read more

Checked this place out several times this spring/summer. A fun casual outing for drinks & dinner! Beer is great. Lots of hoppy options if you're into that. Usually a low IBU option as well. I like that there are different size options..great for trying a few different ones. Friendly bartenders! Bring cash if you plan on having just a drink. There is a minimum on cards (I think $7). The food truck out back idea is awesome, but the portions that you get for the amount that you pay can be sad. One truck, I paid $10 for a grilled cheese (the size that your mom made you in 3rd grade) & a side salad with about 4 leaves of lettuce. Quite hungry afterward. The Texas BBQ truck is fantastic though (and seems to make a regular appearance). Their loaded chips are a-mazing (homemade chips covered in slaw, BBQ, sauce, onions, peppers, etc.). read more

In a land packed with microbreweries it is difficult to get choosy. While their beer is really good and the venue is cool, the staff is a little unfriendly and the food trucks in attendance for the 10 or so times I've been aren't the top. Went here to get a kombucha on tap after a nearby hike. Great place! Yummy kombucha. We sat out on the patio where it's dog friendly and they had a food truck. I frequent "The Toad", and have met so many great friends here! I love Golden, and this brewery exemplifies the best parts about it. The community feel and welcoming environment make it a perfect place to relax and laugh with great people who are pouring beer, and those you'll meet on the chair next to you. This is not a meat market. There are all ages and professions, cute babies and doggies and even an occasional kitty. The owners and staff always make sure that you are taken care of, and are constantly making great additions, like the fire pit and heaters for the famed biergarten! Oh, did I mention the beer? Yummy yum. The Mt. Zion IPA is a favorite, and the "tadpole" small batches that are released every Thursday are always a delight! Make sure to check out the beautiful outside mural and inside art by Jesse Crock! It's amazing that this brewery is not even a year old, as it's already a Golden classic! I'm not a big fan of beer, but my family is. I came here visiting my siblings from the east coast, and we had been to 5 other breweries in the Denver/Boulder area before coming here. It was a beautiful day and we hoped to stop in with my sister's dogs after walking them near the river. Mountain Toad is dog friendly, kid friendly, and a great place to chill out an enjoy EXCELLENT beer. And this is coming from a non beer fan. I highly recommend any of the first 5 beers on their list. (These are the lightest beers, but what can you expect from a non beer drinker?) Plus, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and they have different food trucks pull into the patio. I'm sold. If only I lived in the state of Colorado, but I will be making an attempt to visit this place next time I'm visiting my siblings. read more

Great customer service! Bicycle feel if you're into that- it's a plus for me. All of their beer is fantastic. They also do a "tad pole" tap release on Thursday nights which is fun because you get to try their experimental beer. They offer snacks at the bar, but sometimes there's a food truck parked in their patio with awesome meatball subs. If you like beer and are in Golden, you need to check this place out. We have been here 3-4 times just to be sure and have now definitely concluded that we will never go back and will not recommend it to others. One of the bartenders (tall thin female) has consistently been VERY unfriendly, unhelpful and downright rude. The other customers seem to be very snobby and uppity as well. Feels like a club and if you aren't "in", you aren't welcome. The beers are fine but nothing special. The artwork, branding and beer garden set-up are super cool but simply can't outweigh the nasty customer service experience. It's too bad - I REALLY wanted to love and support this place. Golden City Brewery is an all-around FAR superior experience and I highly recommend it. read more

My wife and I were out and about on 8/31 in Golden for a much needed date night and to sample some of the fine microbrews being produced in Golden. We had a round at Cannonball Creek and decided to give Mountain Toad a try. We arrived at 9:35 PM and went to order a beer. The bartender told us he had already called last call at 9:30 and refused to offer us service. The sign indicated that they were open which was very confusing since the only service they offer is beer and yet they were not serving beer at 9:35. I can understand if you have last call at 1:30 AM so everyone is out by 2:00 AM, but I don't understand a 9:30 last call. They must be doing fantastically well to have their staff unwilling to take our money. read more

Wow. This place is a joke. We love going to breweries and always have a terrific time. To be honest this is the first brewery I have ever complained about. The service is absolutely horrible. My husband and I waited for over 15 minutes before we gave up. We have been here a couple times before always saying maybe it was an off day... Etc. Nope this place just blows. Go to the other awesome breweries in golden. MUCH better beer and service. read more

I've been here a number of times and there are things I love about this place. Their patio out back is a great place to hang out. Their beer is good. What I did not like this time was the slow, indifferent service of the bar staff and the new resident permitting requirement in the neighborhood I parked--maybe 75 yards from the entrance--that nabbed me a $30 ticket. read more

In general, I like this place a lot. Great service even when it's packed, and they have a super nice outdoor space. The food trucks are decent, and while I usually head straight for the dark-and-sludgy beers, I think Mountain Toad's White Ranch Wit has to be my favorite beer brewed inside the Golden city limits. Why only a 3-star review? As it's grown in popularity (and since the Mines students discovered it!), it has become impossible to find a place to breathe, let alone sit -- and forget it if you have to pee; they have single toilet bathrooms -- during pretty much ANY of their operating hours. I know I can't fault the establishment itself (for what, being too successful? Good for them!), but unfortunately, it does make the whole experience, and therefore my ability to recommend it to strangers, only 3-star worthy. Being in a space that crowded, that often is just not fun. You'll have better luck at Cannonball Creek Brewing Company exactly one mile north on Washington. read more
