Bowen is a very nice and fair mechanic/owner. I had a bad bearing, and my husband bought the part to get it replaced there. The noises stopped after the replacement - until 2 weeks later when they started up again, but were not quite as bad as before. Disheartened, I took the car back to the shop, and was assured that they stand behind their workmanship. They finished up a job and all 3 mechanics worked together to diagnose the noisy bearing. Altogether, they spent more than an hour driving it, raising it on the hoist and listening through a stethoscope. Bowen indeed thought the bearing went bad again, but checked the screws and said all the work was fine. They also checked other parts that could have made the noise. He said they couldn't warranty the part, since we had purchased it; if we bought it from them, they would have replaced it for us. That seemed totally fair to me. He even said if I wanted to, they could give me a break for another bearing replacement. I felt he was a very honest person, saying that there are no dangers with driving the way it is. This definitely differs from other reviewers saying they were conned into doing repairs that were not needed. I was really impressed they spent so long diagnosing the problem without charging me, when it was not their problem in the end. read more

I just got my brakes done here. $160 for rear brake pads with surfacing and rotation. That's half the price of the dealership and $100 cheaper than the number one rated yelp place quoted me. I walked in for a smog check after researched on Yelp. Saw the smog test price on their board of $29.97 + paperwork fee. I asked if he can do it for $38 out-the-door according to reviews on Yelp. He said yes, and got right on with the job. I got out there in less than 20 minutes with a passing report. It's a small place with 2 Chinese men. Limited parking area but I got what I want at a good price and no waiting, so 5 stars! read more

Wonder why this place doesn't have more ratings. $38 for a Smog check with cert and $25 for an oil change. Awesome value for your money and friendly service too. Dont think that its a fly by night place from the prices, the dudes here are ASE certified advanced level techs and have quite a gallery of certificates around. That is the best place I never been for car maintenance. I found this shop last year for fixing water pump. The other shop over charged me, and did not really fix the problem. My friend recommended this shop, and I went there. As a result they fix it completely with very good price. Then I use the shop for my car maintenance regularly. Every time they did small fixing job with no charge. Last week I was there to check break since it's not sensitive as usual. A severe break fluid leak was found. Again they fixed it with NO CHARGE. These guys are great. Honest, quick, effective. I been there for smog checks and a minor repair before. Today my battery died. I thought they closed at 5:30 but because it was Saturday and 5:00 they were closed. But one of the guys was there. He checked to make sure the battery was my problem (it was), looked up the right battery for the car, showed me the price, and installed it. Got my Prius tested here. I just wanted to get a smog test and didn't want the hassle of having to call or make an appointment. I decided to try this place, and drove up at 11:35am on a weekday. They could take me right away, no problem. It was done quickly and professionally, and they were very polite. No issues with it being a Prius. I was on my way again in 15 minutes. This place might be getting 5 STAR reviews for SMOG checks. But really what can go wrong in SMOG checks. I went to this place to get the rear rotors and brake pads replaced based on the 5 STAR reviews and that they quoted me the cheapest price. Two months later now I have squeaking noises when I apply the brakes and the rotor has so much rust on it, that I am not sure if it was indeed a new one when the put it in. I take my car in to ask them to fix the issue. The guy at the store goes crazy and says "how dare I tell them that its their fault ?"and that "if i have an issue with the brake pads/ rotor that I go and ask the supplier of their brake pads and why they are squeaking and why the rotor is rusting". I tell them that I did not buy anything from the supplier and that if there is anyone who should be contacting the supplier it should be him. His response "You dont tell me what I should be doing. If you want - the mountain view court is a few blocks away - go there and SUE me". At this point I decide that either is guy is high or drunk, coz he starts saying random stuff. He says that he does not owe me any warranty on the job and that he does not like me as a customer and does not want my business. I should have known what to expect when I chose the store that quoted me $50 less than any other store. LESSON learned. Your mileage might vary, but if you are doing anything other than a SMOG check I would be very wary of getting any repairs done. read more

I've been going to these guys for my oil changes for years. They are great and very reasonably priced ($25 per oil change). They will also point out any other work your car may need. Sometimes I find that helpful, other times I think they may just be selling their services. That's okay; I just like to get a second opion for any larger jobs they may be suggesting. Went for an oil change, was told passenger side CV boot has broken and that needed to be replaced (was charged $130 which I thought was reasonable). After the CV boot replacement, I picked up my car and drove back home and the car shakes and the ride was very bumpy! My car was perfectly OK until I took it for an oil change. read more

I have used this place to take care of my cars for several years. They always offer professional service with very reasonable price. Like today, one of my cars had brake light on on the dash board. They thoroughly checked brakes on all wheels for possible mechanical or leaking problems. In the end, they insisted only charging 5 bucks for the bottle of brake fluid they added which fixed my problem. They are just like one of those warm-hearted neighbors who really want to help you. Great service! I got an oil change at Mt. View Auto Repair 3 months ago for $30 (my last oil change was $49 at a drive through place for my minivan). Then my AC stopped working so I stopped in and they did some diagnostics and discovered the compressor was bad. I came back the next day and they had it replaced in 4 hours. So easy and convenient! I typically had gone to the Midas store on El Camino in Mountain View for oil changes and additional work, but have always felt ripped off. They seem to jack up their prices and do work that isn't really necessary. So I finally read these reviews and decided to try out Mountain View Auto Repair. I am thrilled with the experience and will use this shop for all my oil change and repair needs. I needed work done on my front brakes, too, and they did everything in a pleasant, straightforward way at a very reasonable cost. My experience at this shop has been great, which is no different from what I've been told by several friends who took their cars there for service. The owner and staffs are friendly, knowledgeable and prices are very reasonable. For the work needed on my '05 Toyota Sienna, MV Auto Rep charges 1/3 less then the dealership with better service and quicker turn around. The owner even discouraged me on several repairs simply because they didn't see the need. My problem with the dealers in not just the price, but they offer service based on a fixed schedule and list regardless if you need the repair or not. Unlike MV Auto shop where they approach is a combo of scheduled maintenance and conditions required at the time. I regret that I didn't take my car there earlier.
