I stopped off on my way back from Tahoe and I'm so glad I did. There seems to be a mistake on yelp because I've had BBQ up and down the 395 including copper top who is supposed to be the best. Mountain view is superior by far. The meat is outstanding perfect smoke melt in your mouth goodness. The portion size is large the baby backs were fall off the bone. The sides were great. This is such a great bbq joint. Right off of Hwy 395 in Walker. They have a big menu with something for everyone. I like the bbq sauce cause it's not too sweet. Nice and light. Vinegar and sweet at the same time. Very fun inside and lots of seating outside when the weather is nice. We try to stop here anytime we pass through. The owner could not be more friendly. We've been meaning to try this place and finally had the chance a few weeks ago. We were staying in the area and made our way here for lunch and dined in. Everyone that worked there was friendly and made you feel at home. Nice cold beer, with some good ones on tap which is always a plus in my book. And the burgers where pretty darn good too. We happened to stop at Mountain View Barbeque before crossing the mountains and are so glad we did! The service was attentive and friendly. The BBQ chicken and ribs both moist and flavorful -- with one of the best BBQ sauces I've tasted. Crunchy french fries -- YUM. I took the leftovers home and literally made 3 meals out of one dinner. Our server was kind enough to pour me a cup of (good!) coffee for the journey through the mountains to the Bay Area and also provided helpful route advice for the drive. The prices were extremely fair. My son loved the two dogs, Chopper and Coco, as well as the ribs and fries. If we're ever passing through Walker again, we will make a point of stopping here! read more

Maybe I went on a bad night. This was the worst BBQ I have ever had. We got the bbq sampler platter. The pork was so dry I had to drink some of my iced tea to wash it down. The brisket was ok, not bad. The sausage tasted just like kielbasa out of the plastic wrap with some sauce poured on it. But the ribs...they were so tough I couldn't even cut through them with the knife they provided. The beans weren't that great either. I will definitely not return here again. read more

By far my favorite BBQ restaurant. The staff is friendly, and the food is excellent. Being from the south I know my grilled food. It is situated off 395s in California. Just 15 miles or so past the bug station. My favorite is the brisket. It is delicious and full of flavor. You can tell these guys know what they are doing. The burgers are excellent not to mention the best in walker. If you ever find yourself on 395 heading to anywhere in southern cali. Do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't regret it. Sublime heaven after a day in the hotsprings. There is nothing about this place that isn't perfection. The food is insane. I couldn't have asked for better. and Jeff the owner, and his staff are incredibly warm and welcoming!!! I escape to Walker every chance I get and have eaten there many times. Barbecued sandwiches and burgers are heavenly, and the fries are a perfect accompaniment. I tried the sliced pork loin for dinner once and it was a little tough, though. The iced tea is delicious and refills are free. We had dinner here Friday night, 9-28-18. We both ordered the brisket with fires and a salad. The salad was good and so were the fries but the brisket was cold and rubbery, no flavor at all. The sauce tasted bottled like that bottled stuff from Smart and Final I have had at a company picnic. We must have missed the sign and didn't learn it was cash only until we had to pay. Not good for place that caters to travelers. Overall it was a nice dinner, people were very friendly, it passed the clean test and they had fresh brewed iced tea according to the menu. (I didn't want caffeine so late at night so passed on having any but fresh over fountain iced tea is a plus in my book) We'll go back, we're in the area a lot and I'll try something different. Husband, our two girls and I ate here both nights of our weekend getaway. The food is amazing! Service is outstanding, such nice people! We tried the pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, Texas two step, ribs, mac and cheese, pasta salad, baked beans, and the kids loved the chicken strips and corn dogs and corn on the cob. The pulled pork sandwich here was to die for. OMG it was so good. The owner has been there for many years, previously running it with his late wife. He was very nice and he showed us his wood working skills which are hanging in the restaurant. The walls in the establishment are covered with patches, license plates, etc. It is so cool. We want to give Mountain View BBQ 6 stars if we could. We have never been disappointed with their food. We specifically come to Mt. View BBQ from the Bay Area at least once a year. Do yourselves a favor and experience their food yourselves. We can't believe a couple of the negative reviews that have been posted. The person who calls himself a "Certified BBQ Judge" is one big joke. If he is a judge, I think he needs to turn in his badge and find a new job because I think his taste buds are shot. Anyhow, I would suggest that you be the judge. The owners are super friendly and appear to be good people. FYI - Rick S. My husband and I stopped here on our long cross-country trip on our way up to Burney, CA. This was ONE time, five years ago, and I cannot get this place out of my mind! I had the bacon cheeseburger, fries, and baked beans. It was so freakin' delicious. Driving up 395 from Death Valley in February, we were so pleasantly surprised to find this place open for dinner! (He said it will be open just Fri - Sun for now) The bbq brisket was so tender and flavorful, and the mushroom burger was fresh and cooked exactly right (medium - not pink). On top of the food just perfectly hitting the spot for us, the owner(?) was welcoming and friendly. I was especially impressed with how kind he was to a family who came in and asked to split a single barbecue platter between the four of them. He recommended the biggest one that he thought all would like, and brought 4 plates. A lot of places wouldn't have been so generous. Love the smell of the smoker outside. We've enjoyed the picnic tables out front on summer visits. I'm not a big meat eater, so I focus more on the cole slaw and beans, which were spicy and delicious. Hubby loves all the meats there. We eat here every year while on our annual fishing trip. This place just keeps getting better! The spareribs are the best I've ever had in my life. My family and I stumbled upon this gem today. I loved the restaurant, incredible ambiance. Usually bathrooms don't impress me, this one did. This restaurant is all character. The people who work here are nice, family people, and they care about their patrons. We had brisket and ribs, and it was very good. The sauce was just right. They have the best french fries I have ever had, and I have eaten a few. Good portions, and a fair price. Great family place during the day, and it looked like more fun in the evening. My husband had been through Coleville many times on family trips and always raved about Mountain View BBQ. He insisted that we invite them out to our wedding. I'm not much for BBQ but love all the fixins and wanted my husband to be happy. WOW - did I make the right choice! Jeff and crew drove up with their massive smoker and cooked enough to feed our small army for the entire weekend. We had picky eaters from all parts of the globe and EVERYONE was amazed. The kielbasa was ridiculously good, and the brisket (my fave BBQ treat) was definitely a crowd and personal favorite. Jeff also brought his special artichoke rice, which was raved about by everyone, especially our veggie friends. Food at our wedding venue wasn't the best and had everyone craving more BBQ Sunday morning - Jeff obliged! We could not have been happier with the quality (and quantity) of the food, and Jeff brought great vibes to the entire weekend. Can't wait for our next event to invite him back. read more
