They have a beautiful outdoor eating area with good shade options. The menu is surprisingly extensive for such a tiny spot. Burgers, fries, and shakes are all excellent, like "wow, I wish I could get burgers this good when I'm not here" level good. They even carry gluten free buns for those of us who can't eat wheat, and they're shockingly good! They also have good options for vegetarians. A roadside burger, fresh and hot fries, and a rich creamy milkshake are a necessary part of every trip through the area, and whenever we're between here and Mammoth, Walker Burger is THE STOP. For starters, the vibes are just perfect. The wait in line is where it starts, as the sun is typically beating down as you wait to order in the dirt parking lot, making the shade from the narrow porch and the friendly hello from the order taker your first reward for being here. Usually I'm hungry from a busy morning of breaking down camp, and a 1/4lb Walker Burger with American cheese, fresh veggies and secret sauce on a fluffy fresh seeded soft bun always hits. Summer time usually has me ordering a fresh seasonal fruit shake (peach) but honestly every shake is fantastic and I also LOVE the coffee shakes, which are made with real coffee and coffee beans for extra punch. Fries are always hot and fresh, and best of all they come out crispy without asking for it! Service is always friendly and fun too. What makes this spot special is the garden dining. Picnic tables are scattered throughout a well shaded area offering travelers a cool and relaxing area to enjoy their food. We've definitely done this a few times, but typically take it to go and enjoy it (and the glorious mess) on the way home. Walker Burger is a MUST! Have you been?

I ordered a simple poke ahi salad with wonton chips -- you know, a cold salad that doesn't exactly require a chef to battle a grill, fryer, or oven. Yet somehow, it was the last thing to arrive. Everyone else had already gotten their wings, steak sandwiches, and fries -- food that actually has to be cooked -- while I sat there wondering if my poke salad was being harvested from the Pacific Ocean one fish at a time. The waitress eventually came over and even seemed surprised when she asked, "You didn't get your poke salad yet?" Nope. Apparently neither did the kitchen, because they seemed to have forgotten it existed. Then, after waiting over an hour, my $22 poke salad finally arrived. We all looked at it and basically had the same reaction: "That's it?" It was served in what looked like a cocktail glass with three wonton chips sticking out of the top. For $22, I expected an actual salad -- not something that looked like it was designed to be displayed behind the bar as a garnish. At that point, everyone else was already finished eating, so I guess my salad was less of a meal and more of a $22 delayed-release appetizer. And let's talk about the drinks. The prices are absolutely ridiculous. Apparently Lucky Beaver has decided their drinks should cost more than drinks in the casino. Maybe the extra money goes toward funding the search party for the missing poke salad. Overall, the food was just okay, but the combination of over an hour waiting, an order that was nearly forgotten, a cold salad somehow arriving last, a laughably small $22 portion, and ridiculously overpriced drinks made this experience pretty disappointing.

So you will be paying roughly double, or more, for the price of a menu roughly equivalent to the quality of an Applebee's. The restaurant will argue these are the new inflationary market prices, supply demand dynamics, summer travel pricing to offset slower winter travel season, etc etc. But reaming the customer ain't a great recipe for having folks like me ever returning. It simply isn't worth it to dine here anymore, so I will keep driving past Virginia Creek Settlement and wave.

The service is friendly, seemingly when they realize you're going to purchase something and not stop to use the bathroom. They appear to make this apparent by the 80 year old bouncer and signs that adorn the walls. Once accepted, the service is friendly and they're nice people. As the one star reviews state, this BBQ is terrible. *Disclaimer - I don't rate pulled/BBQ pork because if you can screw up a pork shoulder you don't belong in the food industry. The brisket is chewy, gray, has no bark and has no moisture. It seems they either cook it too hot for too long, or too low for not long enough. It does not pass the pull test, it is all flat and no point. The fries are clearly blanched once in oil rather than blanched then fried to a crisp. They were oily, limp, and I could have covered them with ketchup and called it poor man's spaghetti and twirled them with a fork. It's rare to find fries worse than In'n'Out. The BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup, sugar and Worcestershire sauce, but mostly sugar. The bun was dense, heavy and a gut bomb. I ate 3 fries and a few pieces of brisket, then took the rest to go and threw it away. This place could be a gold mine with a line out the door if they studied proper BBQ and put the hard work in. There's a reason great BBQ places have a line out the door, and there's a reason less than par ones don't. I hope they can find the means to make this place great. The location is beautiful and it's in an area with TONS of hungry road trippers willing to stop at a place like this if it was legit BBQ. Hope this inspires them to up their BBQ game. read more

I have been coming to this place since the day they opened their doors it seems! That says a ton being that I am a Native Texan and grew up on BBQ food! No other restaurant makes me feel more at home then when I walk in the front door of Mountain View and see the beautiful Texas flag hanging over the fireplace!!!! I knew right then and there, this was a great spot to be at! Some may say they are pricey, but I would much rather pay more for a delicious and juicy cheeseburger and fresh cut fries then a paper bag full of frozen fries and a hockey puck as a burger. I love their building with the awesome views of the Sierra's. The staff is so nice and attentive. Jeff is like the awesome uncle or dad that everyone wants to have in their family. On top of the fantastic atmosphere, the food is to die for! I take pounds of brisket and ribs home along with a few jars of their homemade BBQ sauce (then I tend to call and order more jars to be sent to my home which he does for very reasonable shipping!) I wish other places could be trained by Jeff and his staff, it would make trips out to eat much more enjoyable! Can't wait for next season...what does this make...season 18?!?! "Worst BBQ I've ever had" is an understatement. I stopped in here on the way back from Bodie and I was so excited because 1. I was starving and 2. because I love good BBQ. When I passed this restaurant on the way to Bodie it was hoppin! So naturally I presumed this place must have great BBQ. Oh my God was I wrong. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich and it was SO bad, I couldn't even eat it. I sent it back and ordered the smoked sausage instead, which was sausage possibly purchased at the local grocery store on special. I can't even believe they call themselves a BBQ restaurant. I've experienced bad food before but I've always been able to eat it - especially if I'm really hungry, like I was. But I couldn't even eat it because it tasted so bad. SO very very bad!! The people are nice, but the food is the most awful food I've ever tasted. Steer clear. And for the record, I used to do marketing for a chain of BBQ restaurants which included traveling all over the country to BBQ competitions and tasting other establishments BBQ. So yes. I do know my BBQ :) And this was, so far, the worst BBQ I've ever had. Maybe your experience will be different. read more

It was our first time eating here and I cannot praise the BBQ enough. The service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere country cozy with different decorations ranging from country art to license plates which only added to the unique flair of the restaurant. The food was a good portion and cooked perfectly, the pork BBQ sandwich was pure delight in taste and the sauce did not overpower which was excellent. Wrapping the culinary and wonderful experience was the "clean-up" crew that strolled in at close-up time consisting of a pug and a black and white, larger, long haired dog. We left with smiles and a hearty good-bye from the owner Jeff. Definitely an experience and most definitely worth repeating. read more
