Amazing work...simply amazing. This is my first time dealing with movers and the horror stories scared me away many time before. I found Jim and Son through Yelp and booked them right away. They gave me a quote that was fairly accurate for a one bedroom. I moved everything into the living room that I wanted them to take so I would be easier. Jim arrived about 30 minutes early, gave me a call and said he would send up his guys to start prepping my furniture. Everything was either wrapped in plastic or moving blankets (which I paid for but at the low price of $15). By the way all of this was off the clock! Jim wasn't going to start counting this half hour because he was early. He brought a 4 man crew that was working non stop. They didn't take a break the entire 2 and a half hours it took to move my furniture out of my old apartment and into the new one. Once the got to my new apartment they set up everything in my room just as I wanted it. They unpacked everything and no trash was left behind. Everyone was so wonderful and hard working. Moved from a 1 bed loft to a 4 bed house. Jim showed up on time with 3 workers. Got everything done in no time without any problems. No nicks, scuffs or scratches to be found. I used Jim and his boys a week ago for a huge move that I had been dreading for months (years, actually). The last time I used a moving company I remember contracts, extra fees, waivers, mileage charges, overtime fees, and heaven knows what else. Jim and Sons simply showed up on the agreed-upon day (a half-hour early) and got started. For nine straight hours they worked their tails off and cheerfully took care of every request I asked of them. (At one point I saw Jim sweeping out my garage for me...wow.) When the job was finished, Jim spent about a minute and a half preparing my invoice, which was fair and simple -- exactly what you want at the end of a long day of moving. I was just looking for the phone number for Jim & Son Movers when I came across the Yelp page. Once again I am recommending them to a friend who needs a good mover. These guys are real pros. They do what the say they will do, show up on time (if not early), work quickly and charge an extremely fair rate. To top it off, they are super nice and truly careful with your stuff. This is the first time I have used movers and after reading all the great reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Jim and his crew a try. By all means, Jim and his crew truly deserve its high ratings and great comments! Jim was very personable and his crew came ready to work! My move was from a 1 BR apt in Canoga Park to a 1BR apt in Studio City. My previous apt was on the 2nd floor with no elevators so they had to carry everything down the stairs. Even as I was showing Jim where he could park the truck, the crew was already busy carrying boxes down the stairs. They worked quickly and diligently. They not only wrapped my furniture as not to scratch it but they also brought long rugs to cover my carpet from getting it dirty. Fortunately, my new apt had elevators since it was on the 3rd floor. Again, they worked very quickly. The entire move was done in 3.5 hrs and it cost only $440. I found these guys on Yelp and HAD to try them out because of the stellar reviews. I thought, "no way are they as great as these reviews say," but it's all true, folks. After looking at what others charge, Jim and Sons are also the BEST deal in town. SERIOUSLY look no further. They were at my apt at EXACTLY 8AM and moved me within THREE hours - IN THE RAIN. They were careful to wrap all my furniture, offered to take things off the walls for me and were basically a bunch a really really NICE people. Yes, Jim is a little gruff, but that's his style! If you want really professional, efficient and inexpensive movers, these are your guys. My only complaint is that they didn't carefully handle a sculptural piece of art I have, and it broke a little in the move. I'm going to guess this is more my fault than theirs because I didn't wrap it up very well. Anyway, Jim undercut the competition's price and did a really good job- so I would still absolutely recommend these movers and also recommend that you take your own precautions if you have a fragile item (regardless of who is moving you). read more

This is my first Yelp review. I only write about a company if they're amazing or awful. Most are awful, because the service industry seems to take very little pride in their work these days, but you already know that. What you probably don't know, is that Jim and his crew are amazing. I was a little hesitant to book him at first because he's so no nonsense on the phone. No contracts, no bill of lading, no confirmation number. To most questions he answers: "I've been doing this for 26 years." At first it's charming, then it becomes concerning. But I trusted the rave reviews on Yelp and they delivered. He showed up right on time. We walked through our place quickly and Jim marked all the items his movers were not to move - none of them were touched. His 4 movers were quick, careful and so polite it made me remember how nice people can actually be. These guys pushed through 96 degree heat, lugging over 100 boxes and tons of furniture, which they wrapped and protected thoroughly. Nothing was damaged or even scratched. They put down runners to protect the carpet and hardwood floors. And put everything exactly where we wanted it. His charge of $120/hr. is well worth it. The only hiccup was that we had so much crap, it wouldn't all fit on the truck. It was only a 1 bedroom, but we're borderline hoarders with a massive storage area. So we had to make two trips, but Jim never charged me for the time it took to go back and forth on the second trip! Oh, and when we ran out of boxes and tape at the last minute, guess who gave us some - for no charge? Jim's a throwback, a true stand-up guy, and his workers busted their humps for over 5 hours in some brutal heat. I tipped them $20 a piece - probably wasn't enough. read more

I had never used movers before, but I decided to take a tip from all the great yelp reviews here. I wasn't disappointed. Jim and his crew were great and really friendly. They actually showed up a little early and they got right to business. They were super fast and efficient and they didn't make fun of my furniture. And the price was good. $120 an hour, but with 3 guys it made everything go that much faster. I had them for and hour and a half and paid about $150 (including $10 tips for 3). Called them today to inquire about a move from Valley Village to Granada Hills and the guy was kinda rude and not very helpful. The guy I spoke to immediately said "We got nothing until Sept 8th." He seemed impatient and not really interested in the business. When I told him we were moving from a 3 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house. He immediately said: " we don't do 3 bedrooms. We only do smaller jobs. 2 Bedrooms and smaller." With all these good yelp reviews I expected much better. read more

Once again I used Jim & Son Movers and once again I was not disappointed. They are still the best movers I have ever used and I have moved a lot. I have used large moving companies- and none of them can compare to Jim & Son. I just used them in December 2012, the time before was in August of 2010. This was a pressured move due to the place I was renting being foreclosed and sold at auction and my landlord telling me not to worry when in fact I ended up being evicted by the sheriff's office. This left little time to pack but that did not deter Jim & Son. They moved dressers with clothing still in, boxes that weren't packed properly, they even checked and took items that we forgot to pack in our haste. They are the best men you will ever get to move your furnishings. They take care in moving your items and always come prepared to take care of whatever needs to be done. Jim just moved my family, with 5 guys and 2 trucks... he was referred to me by a coworker who used him, and I have to put my 5 star stamp on his company. He did such a great job, so careful with our stuff, and he took great care to disassemble and reassemble my french door refrigerator to get it in and out of a tight spot. His guys are respectful, and he manages them very well. We had a LOT of stuff, and they work quickly, efficiently, and make sure if you need something moved again or setup, they do it! He had three guys moving my one bedroom apartment and they had everything moved out in 30 minutes! They were extremely careful with all of my furniture and managed to not break or scratch anything! All I can say is-Amazing! I had a feeling that I should go with this company and I am glad I did! Jim was awesome and all his guys were so helpful and super fast! I had 4 guys guaranteed and when Jim came he had a 5 man team because the move after mine was much bigger-he asked if it would be ok by me to use the extra guy (and extra truck if needed) and the rate would only go up slightly. I agreed and it worked out! My appt was at 8 am and he estimated about 3 hours for a 1 bdrm apt (ground floor) move to another 1 bdrm (upstairs) and it only took 2.5 hours. He even came early and didn't charge me extra at all! Plus I had packed a lot of stuff in bags that I thought I would end up bringing over myself since it wasn't boxed up-not a problem for them! They brought wardrobe boxes and since my clothes were either packed or I had already moved them, they just put the loose bags in the wardrobe boxes and saved me the trouble of moving the stuff myself. Once we got to my new place the guys brought everything in super fast and put together everything for me-I have a huge sofa and even though I measured before I moved, one of the "sons" thought it might not fit-Jim assured me they would do their best to make it work and they came thru and the couch fit! Also they were really careful in making sure they did not mark up the walls or floor. I have a pretty big dresser and the reason took the longest to bring is was because they were super cautious. WOW!! Called several moving companies. They all seemed a bit shady just like my last experience which was absolutely horrible(charged me $90 to bubble wrap up my tv calling it a crate fee, $45 for tape half of which went to securing my bubble wrapped tv, excess miles/fuel, damaged several items due to incompetence, Etc). Talked to Jim, he set me at ease. The experience was better than I had hoped for. I didn't know moving could be so pleasant. No bs, no hidden fees... Just fast, honest, careful and respectful guys. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it to the destination apartment when they did so I drew a tiny layout of where I wante everything. When I got there they were almost done (way ahead of where I thought they would be) and everything was exactly where it should be. The price per hour was double what my last movers charged... Don't be fooled though, Jim and his guys were so efficient and there are no extra extras so it was less on the end and this time i was smiling! Not one scratch or ding anywhere. Alessandra mentioned that Jim & Son Movers closed which I was so, so sad to hear. They were hands down the BEST movers ever (and I have moved around quite a bit). I still wanted to write this review to show my gratitude. Jim and Son Movers helped us move 10/2012 when we were under pressure to move quickly. They came highly recommended from several sources...but after having so many bad experiences with movers in the past I remained skeptical. Scheduling was a breeze and on moving day, they were prompt and ready. Despite being on a second floor apartment, they were very quick in getting things down (without so much as a scratch on the hardwood floors/furniture). The fact that the owner of the apartment was a stickler for deducting (from a hefty deposit) for even the smallest mark on his precious floors made us really nervous. Jim handled it like a boss. Also, our current home is Spanish/old and the stairway to the second floor is very difficult to navigate especially with big furniture, but Jim was not fazed in the least. He was relaxed and put us at ease from start to finish. Even though Jim miscalculated and only brought 1 truck (we had more stuff than he anticipated), Jim went back and forth (Hancock Park to Pasadena) twice at no extra charge. In the end, everything made it safely and the move took less time than we expected. The price was incredible...so much so that I felt compelled to give a big tip to Jim and his amazing crew. I hope that Jim reconsiders reopening in the future since it's so hard to find good, reliable, courteous, professional and talented movers in LA. Great company...one of a kind!!!!
