It's a good place to have a fast lunch! Basic southern choices, fried chicken, catfish, sweet sweet potatoes! I thought it was interesting that the decor was more about gas stores and stamps... not much about the movies . But there was someone famous there; Our governor Tate Reeves! This is a great place to enjoy Southern cooking. The catfish is really good. The fried chicken is delicious but best to avoid the breasts as they are impossible to cook the thick pieces without drying out the top layer of meat. Veggies are delicious and perfectly done-not overdone but cooked well. Salad fixings are varied and fresh. Love the spinach spring mix. Dressings are good. Tarter sauce for fish is excellent. The food would have gotten a five if it had been hotter but it was warm enough If you are going to enjoy ice cream (Blue Bell!! The BEST!) over your cobbler, be sure and get it before you start your meal as those little cups are frozen SOLID! The peach cobbler is fantastic. Blueberry cobbler or crumble was good. Avoid the banana pudding as it is made with artificial banana flavored pudding. If you like the jello pudding flavor, it is good. Movie Star was the name of a lingerie factory in Poplarville Mississippi, the original location of this Mecca for great country cooking. It is a very large building with interesting old timey items hanging from the walls and open beam ceilings. Much of it is for sale. I did not notice any lady's drawers or braziers displayed. Buffet food is always kept at a good temperature and is well maintained. The meats today were fried catfish and chicken, porkchops, and meatloaf. Get this: mixed in with the bbq chicken (oven style) wetrone inch pieces of smoke sausage and bacon! Big chuncks of lean freakin' bacon!!! Need I say more?? I had string beans (canned but dressed up well with onions) macaroni and cheese ( not bad for a buffet) and a few pieces of fried okry. (Nub dat fried okry). Plenty Plenty of other stuff to choose from what is probably 100 feet of food stations. This location is easily accessible. .service is prompt and friendly. So our 2016 vacation turned into our 2016 "Southern Fried Chicken tour" all participant restaurants were great however, Movie Star Restaurant stood above all. The value was great, the service was amazing, Jordan our server was great. Coincidently her family owns the restaurant and her great grand mother was also dining. Her recipes (still used today) are awesome! We will definitely make a pilgrimage to this restaurant everytime we are in Hattiesburg. read more

This place, to me, was overly greasy and not very good. I will say I only had the buffet and I don't know why I didn't like it but I just didn't. Everything tasted bland and the food was incredibly greasy. Maybe it was just me because they did have a huge lunch crowd, but if you're looking for items on the buffet that you can't get at any of the other buffets around, then you'll be disappointed. Basically nothing stood out for me and I couldn't find one thing that I really enjoyed. Minus the little ice cream cup lol. The ambience was cool though :) read more

Buffet!! So, I'm usually not a fan of the buffet, they let quantity get in the way of quality. Movie Star had such delicious options, but the smoked chicken was my favorite.
