Moving Dough lives in a converted house in Barrington, with a flag out front and Christmas lights strung up in the windows. Red bows, string lights wrapped around the frames. Inside, red ladder-back chairs, blonde wood tables, a pop art pizza slice on the wall. Paper plates. No cups, even though they sell 2-liter bottles with those 20 ouncers. It's really, at its heart, a nicely appointed takeout spot. A small space, maybe 20 seats, but friendly, the guys throwing the pizzas talked with us while they made pies. Easy, natural. Like being at someone's house. That's their food truck DNA showing through. Joey and Jay started making pizzas at backyard cookouts in 2021. Friends kept asking for more, so they bought a wood-fired truck. They blew up around Rhode Island and Massachusetts after that and opened this brick and mortar shop in 2023. We started with meatballs. Two of them in marinara with pecorino on top and fresh basil. These were exceptional. Tender, moist, herbaceous in the best way, seasoned like someone's grandmother taught them how. The sauce had real flavor, bright and rich at the same time. They were almost identical to Bettola's, which is high praise. Best meatballs I've had from a pizza place in months. I kept thinking these would be incredible in a sandwich or calzone. Then came the Sicilian pie. 16 by 12 inches, thick crust, split down the middle: half cheese, pepperoni, and olives; half grilled chicken. The crust showed serious color variation (gold to deep brown to char spots). That brick oven's running hot and nobody's micromanaging every inch. Look at the crumb structure in those cross-sections. Big, irregular air pockets. Wild shapes that only happen when time does the work. Not the uniform bubbles of rushed dough. Light, airy, crispy on the bottom, sturdy enough to hold whatever is on top. Golden brown undercarriage with real structure. In no way doughy like most Sicilians turn out. That 24-hour fermentation they talk about? It's real. You can see it. That light, airy structure leaves you full but not bloated. The pepperoni and olive side delivered. Good snap on the pepperoni, quality cheese melted perfectly, clean tomato sauce balancing sweetness and acid. Just fresh tomato flavor doing its job. The chicken side is where it gets interesting. Grilled chicken is the canary in the coal mine for pizza competence. It separates the pizza makers from the pizza fakers. Get it wrong and it's dried out on top or rubbery underneath because they don't understand that chicken needs to cook ON the pizza, not ahead of time. Moving Dough gets it. The chicken was moist, properly cooked, not dry or rubbery. They kept the cheese and sauce ratio the same as the other half, so a touch more sauce would've helped with moisture and flavor, but the fact that the chicken survived the oven tells you they know what they're doing. That's the New Haven DNA of the shop. The crust is a platform. Toppings get the spotlight. The sauce carries flavor. The cheese does its work. The crust holds it all together with that crispy foundation and doesn't compete. It works. I'd go back for those meatballs alone. But I also want to try their regular round pies, see what they do with The Hot Chick or The Tenderoni. Who goes to Barrington for pizza? Moving Dough puts it on the map. read more

I wouldn't say this is my top choice for pizza, but we still order here like 2x a month and I think I like it more and more each time. They have pick up & delivery which is great. Also think they have a table or two inside? From our most recent order: The Mya (fig spread, prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, balsamic glaze) - 8.5/10. Sometimes it gets to be a little too sweet for me, but still super delicious Meat Lovers (mozzarella, meatball, bacon, pepperoni, sausage) - 7/10. Not my first choice but still super yummy, I didn't love the bacon on this though and would have liked it better without. The Goat salad (arugula, fried goat cheese ball, beets, candied pecans, balsamic glaze) - 8/10. Love this salad but it is lacking just a tiny bit. While searching for pizza in the Barrington and Seekonk area, I came across Moving Dough Pizza, which had received good reviews on Yelp. There are parking spots available around the building, and it appears they share parking with the ice cream store adjacent to it. I pre-ordered two pizzas through the Local by Toast app: the Oliver, which features BBQ sauce, and the Tendenroni, topped with mini pepperoni on a tomato-based sauce. I found the prices to be on the higher side considering the portion sizes, especially since I paid extra for mushrooms on one of the pizzas, yet barely noticed any on the pizza. It seems this establishment does not use enough ingredients, resulting in a lack of toppings. For two pizzas costing $50, I expected more than just sauce. I didn't dine in, so I cannot comment on the service. However, when I walked in to pick up my pizzas, none of the staff greeted me; one employee was folding pizza boxes while another was simply standing by. Overall, I cannot recommend this place--not due to the staff, but because of the food. There are better pizza options in Warren, Bristol, and other nearby areas. Finally had the opportunity to stop in here today after over a year of wanting to try their pizza. (2 hours kayaking helps you work up an appetite.) interior is small with seating for maybe only a dozen people and a couple of outside tables. Got a cheese w black olives and a meat lovers. Both pizzas came out looking perfectly cooked, and the buildup and anticipation was worth it. Generous toppings, adequate cheese and just enough sauce dent me home satisfied and I definitely had one slice more than I should have ! My only complaint was that the girl taking orders and working register and bringing pizzas out had zero personality nor any sense of humor whatsoever. I'll definitely come back (as I saw after the fact they had Sicilian style too) but maybe order as take out. read more

A good pizza spot in town. It was pretty busy on a Friday night. Indoor dining has limited seating, as it's mainly a pickup location. I got the margherita pizza--both the crust and sauce were good. Took about 25 minutes. I tried ordering delivery, but it kept indicating they were closed and pushed me to schedule for the next day. Overall, it's not my go-to place, but it's pretty convenient if you're in Barrington. read more

Get the wings!!!! We moved to Barrington this summer and have looked all over for good wings. These are it; we love them!! They're have plenty of sauce, they're meaty, not over done and not too pricey.... everything you want your wings to be! Their fries are fab so we definitely get several sides. We also sometimes get an extra side of buffalo sauce for some extra zing. Moving dough is the best pizza in Barrington; along with Jeff's it is my favorite on the East Bay. We've ordered a lot from Moving Dough and they are consistent in their excellence and inventive with their recipes. For example, they offered a 'hot wiener' pizza that had hot dogs, mustard, onion, and celery salt that was the bomb. They have salads and wings. Their online ordering is easy. I think it's fair to say that the first time you try a pizza place you should try their basic pizza, so I had pepperoni. (You can cover it up with bunches of sauces and ingredients but if the basic pizza isn't sufficient, then you're paying for toppings that cover up.) Pizza was pretty good, not mind blowing like so many people are saying. Better than some other places that's for sure, so maybe that's why they're getting so many five stars. Mine was a little bit underdone but that was easily fixed in the oven. The crust was so thin in the middle though that unless you're using a fork and knife, please don't, it's difficult to eat. People get all excited about what they call a woodfired crust but it has to have flavor, not just be bubbly with some charring. This was "OK". I wouldn't go out of my way to get here, but I wouldn't avoid it either. read more

In an area where the previous options for delivery pizza have been so-so, Moving Dough is a welcome new exception to the rule. The Tenderoni pizza is amazing! Simple yet complex flavors, every bite a delight. At 12", we were glad we added a salad to the order. Oops, they forgot the dressing for our Caesar but we had our own; no harm, no foul. I want to try so many other pizzas on their menu but it will be hard to pass up another Tenderoni. Promised delivery was 60-75 minutes; arrived in less than an hour. As a pizza fan, I wanted to give this place a try when I heard about them. Finally got the chance and wasn't disappointed. Tried the Leo (cheese pizza) and the Mya (fig, prosciutto, arugula). The flavors, for me, were good for both the toppings and the crust. Both tasted fresh. If I was going to nit pick, I'd like a slightly thicker crust in the middle (edges were fine). If you're a pizza fan, I would give them a shot. While they weren't my favorite pizza in the area, they will definitely beat many of your standard pizza shops and the prices are very fair. Having just moved to the area and always looking for a new pizza place, this was disappointing after reading these reviews. Ordered the meat lovers with no bacon and extra cheese. I ordered it cooked as it is without any special instructions. I really waffled between 2 and 3 stars, probably a 2.5. What I dislike the most when eating a pizza is when the crust cannot support the toppings. This pizza had major flop in the middle and 75% of the toppings slide off when picked up. What surprised me the most was that the crust had a nice char and was crispy. So it was a major disappointment when I picked up the first slice and was left with a piece of bare crust with the toppings in my plate. Also there was not much cheese for a pizza that was ordered with extra cheese. What saved this from a 2 star review was that the toppings had a very good flavor. But for 22 bucks I want to eat my toppings on my pizza not loose in my plate. I have found from past experiences with pizza that even trying to correct the flop issues by having it cooked well done doesn't work. My husband and I are extremely picky about our pizza. And as a foodie at heart I can't recommend Moving Dough enough. The crust is perfect but the sauce is the star of this pizza show. My husband devoured the buffalo chicken bites and kept praising them in between bites! As somebody who travels around the state for a living, I've tried many of the pizza joints. This is one of the better ones. Somewhere between New Haven and New York style, they got the good grandma style pepperonis, a nice fresh sauce, and wonderfully light, crispy crust that's tasty even on its own. We had these guys cater a party at our house this summer and they were phenomenal. First of all, the pizza is incredible and easily the best we've had since moving to RI. It would be difficult to say which was best, the pepperoni was delicious, the white clam was to die for, but the fig and prosciutto was by far the biggest hit. In fact, one of our guests liked it so much they intercepted the entire pie as it was being brought out to the table. There are a lot of ways to cater a party, but the reality is they're all a little boring. But having Moving Dough roll up to our house and turn out incredible pizzas while playing fun music made the day. And everyone loved looking into the rig to watch the pizzas being made.
