Tips: - Happy hour happens twice a day, every day. The first happens between 2 pm and 5 pm. The second is from 9 pm till close. - If you are tall, be careful standing up at your booth and hitting your head on a hanging lamp. After running errands last Saturday, I was ready for lunch. I remembered seeing this Moxie's near Pickle Barrel the last time I was at The Shops at Pickering City Centre (formerly Pickering Town Centre). Moxie's has better happy hour hours than Pickle Barrel. I'd make it to the former for the 2 pm till 5 pm period. It didn't take long for me to drive from eastern Markham to this shopping mall. It's a bit crazy to weave through it, but I got a decent parking spot fairly close to the eatery's entrance. It was raining, so I walked in wearing a hoodie, armed with an umbrella. I was promptly seated at a comfy booth. I was near the washrooms, although I didn't see a sign saying that it was the path to them. Weird. Folks walking in and out of the corridor tipped me off. Daelynn was my server. It was busy at this eatery at around 2:30 pm. She was nice. I do like happy hour menus these days. You can save a bit, which I appreciate. I started with these items: - Diet Coke - Absolut sippin' soda with bellini - Steak frites My boozy bellini soda came to me first. It's basically a slushy bellini soda with Absolut vodka. For $6, it was enjoyable. However, the bellini peachy flavour was subtle. I would have preferred a more bold, juicy peach taste. I got a Diet Coke. It was fizzy and cold. Sadly, it took forever to get a refill from my server. A friendly bartender who happened to walk by to pick up my empty glass offered to fill it up a couple of times. Yay! My steak frites came out. It was so good. It was regularly $38. The happy hour price made it $27. Such a steal these days! I got my steak medium. It had the best chimichurri on top. The steak was perfectly done. Yummy! I got an arugula salad as a side that was unexpected. I tore through it. It was fresh and delicious. I ended up dabbing bites of my salad into the chimichurri. Even my fries went into it. My fries were crispy. It came with ketchup. They were fine, but I loved the arugula salad more. I got dessert. I went with a key lime pie without any whipped cream. It arrived as specified. I love key lime pie. It was tart and yummy. The crust was perfect. It wasn't dry. It wasn't full of moisture. It was perfect. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and tipped. Done! I used the washroom before I left. It was clean and nicely maintained. No issues. If you are tall, you may want to take care getting up from your booth if there's a hanging lamp. I didn't and hit my head on the one above my booth. Luckily, I didn't hit my head on it hard. I'd returned again for more good eats and drinks. We came here for our 11th wedding anniversary. We were seated in the covered patio and no air conditioning. The tables were too close to other tables. I wish the host would give us a choice of air conditioning dining or al fresco dining. The covered patio was very humid and noisy. I would've appreciated if the host asked us if we were celebrating any occasion today. A private booth would have been more intimate for the occasion. We had to move the table because there was no room to sit down. We ordered 2 Moxies signature dishes. The Chipotle mango chicken $31.75 and the Mushroom Sirloin. Both dishes were executed and presented well. The chicken breast had nice charred marks along with delicious ancient grains rice, grilled veggies and avocado pico de gallo. The complexity of flavours and textures made this dish a standout. I highly recommend this main. The mushroom sirloin was a masterpiece. The mushroom madeira sauce complimented the thick piece of sirloin broiled to perfection at medium rare. The mash potatoes were creamy and the seasonal veggies were again delicious. We order 2 Mexican Bulldogs which are margaritas with a Coronita put upside down in the margarita bowl glass. Nice salted rim and limes to garnish. One critique I would say is that I wish the margarita was more frozen and less watery. We ordered the dry ribs for our appetizer. The ribs had a nice light crispy batter. My wife loved the ribs. Aside from the initial issues we enjoyed the food and will definitely come back for the culinary experience. The server was kind and polite. She checked on us to ensure we enjoyed the food. We did have to remind her to bring us appetizer plates for the dry ribs. Just some minor tweaks in service and the experience would be 5 stars. read more

We got cheese burgers and they have GF buns available as well. The truffle fries were my fav in the meal. Have had many good experiences here. Beautiful inside with a large patio. Love their Ahi Tuna and short rib sandwich. Went last night with my grandkids who are 18 and 14, both foodies. Ordered virgin cocktails and calamari and shrimp. I had the smoked old fashion. If you like a nice peaty whisky, you will love this. Calamari was good, but a very small serving. Virgin pina colada was missed. Waitress was good about getting it when reminded, bringing it over right away. We enjoyed some garlic bread, the Keto guest was able to order something to suit his diet, and I very much enjoyed my Chicken and Mushroom Tagliatelle, which our superb server, Vincent, recommended. The sauce was perfect: beautifully emulsified and very hearty. They also served this really cool French Orange Wine, which may sound sketchy, but was really good. Our desserts were excellent as well. I highly recommend the cheesecake. Vincent was our man, guiding us through the menu and steering us toward excellent recommendations. Plenty of parking and the atmosphere is upscale-relaxed. Full disclosure one of the sous chefs is a friend but that aside I would recommend the following. Of the desserts on the menu The Sticky Toffee Pudding is to die for. First off the sponge portion is perfectly done. The cake is moist yet not over done (soggy). Next up the toffee sauce is wonderful along with a butter rum sauce that makes this a treat to be shared. There are some sliced almonds but my daughter is allergic so we had them on the side. They offer (for me) a nice crunch to the dessert. Finally there is the French Vanilla ice cream. Granted I am not a fan of vanilla. But in this case I would make an exception. The ice cream is the perfect counter point to the dessert. The fact that no other part overwhelms the ice cream indicates a balanced and well thought out end to any meal. The portion is generous given the price of $12.00 and it is a shareable treat. We went with three people - one of us ordered a lettuce wrapped beyond meat burger and it came with bread, another ordered mashed potatoes instead of seasonal vegetables and it came with the vegetables, and myself I ordered a cheeseburger which they could only cook one way because it comes pre cooked? Avocado dip was delicious, loved the kick! The service is super rushed though, we weren't even done our dip when the mains came. Extremely frustrating so next time we won't order mains until we are done apps. This isn't a joke. This is the best restaurant I've ever been to. I will admit that I am a very picky person then they made my hamburger plain that's the best service I've ever got. These guys took great care of us! My friend has a food allergy and they came out and took the time to make sure they prepare the food correctly. I like atmosphere. We sat in solarium where it was warm and sunny. Possibly the only place in Toronto that day that was warm and sunny! I ordered the ramen with shrimp. Loved it! It had crisp asparagus stalks in it and shiitake mushrooms. This is not your average top ramen you have at home! I also had a glass of the house Cabernet. Haven't been to moxies in a few years so decided to come back and try it out. We got the fish tacos and Alfredo pasta - and of course, the white chocolate brownie!! Alfredo pasta was as good as I remember! The fish tacos were a bit much. Overfilled and not much flavour surprisingly.. not the easiest to eat, everything just fell out, this one seemed over filled - first bite and most of the toppings had already fallen! Make sure to ask for a extra plate just to catch your toppings!!! They usually come with fries, but you can substitute them for salads/sweet potatoes fries as well. I'm not a big fan of Moxie's but this is definitely one of the best Moxie's I've been to. We came here a couple of weeks ago for a belated birthday lunch with my parents and then again last weekend for my Dad's birthday/Mother's day lunch. On the first occasion, I was all set to order the double stacked turkey club but when I saw eggs benny on the brunch menu, I couldn't resist... although the next time I had no issues resisting! Not exactly the best eggs benny I've had but it was an interesting twist on the traditional. I'm not quite sure what the eggs were presented on... it was sort of like a flat bread but quite doughy then thin slices of pancetta, aged white cheddar cheese, perfectly poached eggs and a hollandaise sauce that had started to separate. It was accompanied by rösti potatoes (which were fabulous) and fresh fruit. Both my Dad and I ordered this dish and neither of us we overly impressed by it and I was left wishing I had stuck with my original plan of the double stacked turkey club... which needless to say, my husband opted for! A small bite of his sandwich confirmed my error in judgement soooo... the following weekend when we were back all four of us ordered the club! Definitely a better bang for your buck as this sandwich is fantastic and very filling! We all enjoyed our lunch and I do have to say, the service at this Moxie's is superb! Both times the manager came out for a chat and to make sure all was well. The waiters we had on each occasion were attentive and friendly. Although it's one of the more higher priced restaurants in Pickering, I will definitely be back. Well done Moxie's and welcome to Pickering! This is the second time in the same week I visited moxies. They just have such lovely patios. The unfortunate thing was we had to wait over an hour for a seat. If the weather wasn't as beautiful and breezy as it was, this would've been a painful wait. I tried to go with a healthier option so I got a salad which was pretty good. I did sneak some of my boyfriends fries (what's new) because they have delicious fries. Our service was good, nothing out of the ordinary. Okay, by far one of my favourite Moxies location! The service here is def. way better than all the other locations I have been to. The restaurant itself is really clean and more modern looking. The waiters here are attentive and friendly. They give you pretty good suggestions as well. The food.. amazing!! I've been here three times, and all three times did not disappoint. For the main dish, I would suggest the peppercorn New York w/ baked potato and the beef vindaloo. Both dishes are made so well! Appetizer - Had the calamari with the most delicious sauces! Couldn't get enough of those shaved one was sweet Thai like and the other was cheesy! I would have appreciated if they give more fresh or slightly cooked jalepenos instead of over cooked dry ones. Main Course - Mustard and Dill Salmon was okay. The salmon melted in my mouth. Felt like my potatoes could use some more sauce. Want absolutely nuts about this meal hence the three stars. Dessert - White Chocolate Brownie was a LARGE portion size and I would recommend you share this. It was delicious and warm if you've got a sweet tooth! Moxie's you continually surprise me. Am I a fan?? The food tasted good but I feel like I'm still reluctant to come back. Really weird. Anyways common to most other Moxie's, the interior of the restaurant is modern and luxurious...especially for a family-ish casual restaurant. We sat in the dining area which is kinda sleepy so if I had a do-over I'd opt for the bar area which has ample TVs. Sunday's lunch menu features the usual fare - salads, sandwiches, pastas - and also features some brunch items. Despite a two-sided menu nothing really jumped out at me. I did note that some of the items on the menu seemed a little pricier than average for lunch. You might find things a bit cheaper at Pickle Barrel or Jack Astors. I know that Moxie's has that more upscale vibe but let's be real, they're all in the same category of Canadian-not-super-casual-but-definitely-not-really-fine-dining restaurants. A lunch fish taco meal was $15.50 on the menu. I thought to myself, 3 tacos would be $5 each would be reasonable if they are tasty but still, kind of on the fence. I am probably a little biased since I spend a lot of time in California where the tacos are cheap, packed, and tasty. My curiosity got the better of me so I asked the waiter how many tacos you got...and the answer (take a guess before you read this next line)...was 2! 2 tacos and a side of fries. That gave me heart palpitations but after that passed I ordered the smoked salmon and goat cheese egg white omelette since that was a little more unique sounding. I was with two other people so we ordered two appetizers to split. The mushroom and goat cheese dip came with tortilla chips and cut up naan bread to dip with. The dip was actually mind blowingly good which made me extremely confused. This isn't the Moxie's of old I remember. The eating vessels were also pretty well thought out as you could switch between crunchy and soft for texture change ups. The tuna poke was also pretty good. The seaweed chips were super innovative as I've literally never seen this offered at any other restaurant. There was definitely enough of the tuna/avocado mix to use up the mountain of nori and if you wanted a little extra kick, you could add the chili sauce that came with it. They were very generous with the chili sauce and it was very good leaving me to wonder if I should have held on to it for our fries later. I was pretty fully after the initial appetizer blitz and our mains came out right as we were finishing up the apps. The omelette though appearing very large was pretty light. I think the egg whites had something to do with this. The salmon lost a bit of its smokey flavor in the cooking process but was still salmony. There was goat cheese in the omelette although some bits had huge chunks where other bites didn't have any. The capers were a nice bright element to cut through everything. I was able to get about halfway through it and finish up the fruit before I tapped out. I did get a bite of the loaded burger which was actually also really good. It tasted like a burger that was actually grilled over an open flame. I'm also convinced that it was a burger that wasn't just the cheapest lean meat that they could find. It was a hearty burger with the right toppings to make you admit that you wouldn't be able to recreate this fully at home. Now I don't know if I am physically able to stop myself from eating a fry if someone offers it to me so I tried these as well. They were crunchy on the outside but was of that powdery potato quality on the inside which wasn't as great. This didn't stop me from eating a couple however. The service was also decent. We had our waiter and a manager checking up on us pretty regularly. The food came out a little slow but when it came it was hot and tasty. Some other cool things to note are that the straw we got with an alcoholic drink was paper. Water was served in glasses with no straws. Their take out boxes are also paper so definitely more environmentally friendly than most other places. The washrooms are also extra with fake fireplaces and TV screens. I had to cobble together a couple sides to make a vegan lunch out of my meal. Even the salads were all meat and cheese offerings, when you take those away, you're left with basically lettuce, boring. In the before times.........this was an awesome place to go with the crew for an "afterworkie" or two. Cold beer and apps, then the long drive home for the weekend. Lets hope things get back to normal soon, because the parking lot just wont cut it with take out as your option. I've been to this location a few times now and my experience has been consistent Usually the waitress that I get are always in a rush and haven't been very helpful in terms of suggestions with what to order. The bruschetta never seems to disappoint me. I got the white chocolate brownie hoping it would give me that sweet satisfaction but never does. Okay, first off we were greeted right away and the greeters were very nice and kind. Super clean washrooms and it was a Friday night so it's super busy. The sauce was alright, but the shrimp had no flavour and the lobster tail should have been cooked more thoroughly. However after the main, i got the mini toffee pudding cake and thank God I did! It was so amazing. I have always loved toffee but this dessert was very sweet and satisfying.
