This was probably one of the better Moxie's I've ever been to. We made reservations and came with a big group from work for a birthday and an end of the year lunch. We decided to sit outside as it was a nice day and they quickly set us up outside. Service was prompt and very accommodating as one of the girls had a gluten allergy and they were able to bring a great meal and dessert for her . Lunch was delicious, and presentation was beautiful and colorful for everyone and we ordered a variety of dishes. The only complaint was that the heater above us was still turned on during the hot day making those of us near it very hot. The worst part was that there were holes in the patio umbrella so the ash that had fallen on there, fell on us too. The server was able to turn it off eventually but I hope they clean up that ash. read more

I was there last Saturday with my little brother for a quick bite. Service was great, our server was always present when we needed him. There were a few mishaps that occurred but the way management handled everything was really nice! I believe the managers name was Danica, thank you for the amazing hospitality. I don't usually like reviewing chain restaurants, but seeing as how this location is the tester restaurant for all the other ones, I thought I'd make an exception. I came here on a Saturday morning, and it was fairly slow, which was surprising for a weekend. I assumed that most places that serve brunch on the weekends are busy, but since Moxie's isn't a "brunch" restaurant it makes sense. Since it was slower, we got seated right away and service was quick. I was craving something salty and on the lighter end, so I ordered the salmon, spinach, and goat cheese omelette. It was perfect. The omelette itself was tasty, filling, and the perfect amount of saltiness. I really hope they put this on their regular brunch menu, because I'd come here all the time if that was on their menu. If you're around the area I would recommend checking this location out since their menu is constantly changing and there are always new tasty menu items to try. read more

Went there for dinner on Saturday. We ordered the Blackened Chicken burger, the beef dip & of course a Fuggles & Warlock IPA... Burger was delicious and came with very nice tasting fries but too many :) for my waistline :)....my wife took a bite of her beef dip sandwich and found the beef was VERY chewy. We pointed it out to the server who then asked the manager to come by our table. She immediately apologized and we had another one brought to the table which was much better. Even if you don't like the beef dip, just getting the garlic dip and yam fries is worth, best garlic dip I've ever tasted!! This place is comparable to a TGIF or Chili's (if you're from the states), although most of their dishes seem to venture towards the saltier side...maybe it's a Canadian thing eh? The restaurant itself connects to Sandman Hotel, so it's a convenient (and only) place by the hotel. The inside decor is extremely dark, and almost to the point where you have a hard time seeing the menu items. To start things off, I decided to try their soup of the day, which was wild rice mixed with....I can't really remember. But all in all, I remember how I wish I had some bread to wash it down with because the chef must have spilled the salt. Damn was it salty... Next up was their burger, top sirloin, and red curry. The burger was cooked as I asked (medium rare), but it tasted bland, which was disappointing. The curry and top sirloin both were smothered in salt again, so wasn't too crazy about those dishes either. This location was not up to standards. Waiter was asked what was in the loaded baked potato (specifically if there was bacon in it) as one guest had dietary restrictions. Was told he as safe only to discover bacon in it after he had eaten some. Went here for Happy Hour alone while I was here on business.... sat in the lounge and was promptly served by Alexi -- the friendliest and best server on the planet! She was attentive, fun, and friendly -- I never felt rushed, but did feel very well taken care of! I tried the fish street taco and the pinot grigio -- and it was so good I ordered it a second time -- and a third. And, had one more fish taco before Happy Hour ended... it was a wonderfully satisfying mini-dinner and the server made it fun and relaxing... Funny story here: I was out on a training module for my sales job in that neck of the woods. There were five of us, including the sales trainer and a new person. We were all a bunch of Asians (sorry) learning about new KitchenAid appliances at the Home Depot on Sweden Way. The 'class' started at around 9:20 am and ended around noon-ish. Our trainer then announced he would treat us for lunch. I suggested pho as there were lots of pho places around, maybe one pho restaurant every third building in Richmond? But he wanted to do Moxie's. Fair enough. The new person (what we call in our group our MARS rep) drove me over there so we wouldn't take too many cars. He explained that although pho is popular and yummy to Asians, our trainer didn't really want to 'cheap out' on lunch, make it worth while. Hence, the decision to do Moxies. The company we all represented would be 'expensing' it anyways. The one thing that surprised and delighted me is how easy it is to avoid gluten. It would be nice if the menu had denotations on which items were gluten free but I was able to assess it by menu descriptions and make decisions by asking questions. I ultimately chose the Chipotle Chicken with Mango. Avocado garnish, one beautifully steamed stem of bok choy and a bed of quinoa were the supporting players in this dish. The dish was beautifully presented and prompt to arrive. All our orders arrived in a very prompt manner. In my dish, the flavors and textures balanced each other perfectly, chicken nicely grilled. The quinoa was fantastic too. In fact, everything about the dish was perfect. On the plated, it appeared to be small but I was full. Great service, ambiance complemented the experience and I fully recommend this spot. read more

The staff was so friendly and accommodating from the start. They gave flowers to all the moms, which was such a sweet touch. Quiet spot with quick service. We ordered Bloody Mary's since it's the official first day of our vacation, but were sadly disappointed. The Bloody Mary's are essentially tomato juice and vodka...no seasoning at all. Minimum they need to get a better Bloody Mary mix. Our food was pleasantly surprising since we were so disappointed in the drinks. We both had omelettes, one with salmon and goat cheese, the other spinach, mushroom, and goat cheese. I made a reservation for a group of us a few weeks before Christmas. Parking was good - just outside the doors. Our group was seated in the covered patio are. Good enough location but the problem was the temperature. It was a chilly evening, so they had the heaters on which were above the tables. This made it very warm (too warm) for us. So we took off our coats. However, the heaters turned off in a little while, so we had to put our jackets back on. This happened throughout dinner. Annoying. A few of us ordered peach bellinis which had no taste, so we exchanged them for sangrias. The food ordered was good: veggie burgers, lettuce wrap, chicken wings, enchilsdas. This is sort of your American/Fusion style restaurant that wouldn't fail anyone who is to scared to try any of the ethnic restaurants Richmond has to offer. They pretty much serve everything that you'll find in the US. Baby back ribs, steaks, burgers, tacos and some more. The restaurant has a modern feel to it and the service is okay. I had to ask for a fork three times because my hubby dropped my fork on the floor. I ordered Ahi salad, son ordered chicken nuggets, daughter ordered Salmon. I come here quite often since it is close by and their burgers are better than other chain restaurants. They also has wed night cheap wings but I was very disappointed at our xmas dinner. Usually I'd give them a 3/5 rating. There were 10 of us and after getting our drink/ food order I think I saw our waitress once. It was the bus boys who served us, asked if we needed anything else. The waitress had to be flagged down and then she would take 20mins just to get us water. To add to that a busboy served my friend my pasta to which she asked if it was vegetarian and he said "uh yeah it should be." It was the penne Toscana and you can clearly see sausage and cheese all over it. He didn't even bother to check or pick the plate up to look. Overall we were very disappointed. Moxie's is partitioned into a dinning area and a lounge area. We sat in the dinning area since my friend wanted to eat. We had the calamari to share and my friend ordered the lettuce wrapped burger with a salad on the side. Apparently, we got the wrong order or someone else's order because we got a burger on a bun with fries on the side. We didn't want to make a fuss so we just asked to swap the fries for a salad. Our server was nice and just gave us the fries. I didn't try any of those as I had dinner just a few hours ago but I did take a few bites of the calamari. It came with some popcorn shrimp as well. The seasoning on this dish was good. Flavour was there but it didn't felt deep fried at all. It was just coated with batter. At least the calamari wasn't rubbery. But I've had better. I had a double on the Raspberry and Kiwi Crush Margarita. I really liked this cocktail and the double was boozey as oppose to some places which doesn't give me the slightest tingle. [Casual Birthday Friday] Moxie's was the only "acceptable" place that could accommodate a party of 15 on a Friday evening with a few days notice. Although it was 24th on my list, it actually got the job done. The restaurant decor is not quite like Joey's or Milestones - rather, a really really nice white spot. There's ample seating for 60 or 70 and a small patio to boot. I perused the menu and decided to start with the calamari and a beef dip with side salad as my main. I also got the shock top ale. The calamari was plump and juicy and was accompanied by a sweet chili dip. The beef dip was pretty standard and similar to what I'd get at White spot. Value-wise, my entire bill came out to under $40 everything in. Not too shabby! I was pretty stuffed in the end which I'd consider a Win as I have hollow legs. Service wasn't spectacular but our server was friendly and got the job done. Moxie's is good for what it is - decent food at a reasonable price. I had a good experience but if you go in with the same expectations as the Keg or Earls, you may be sorely disappointed. read more

Food and drinks were great and well priced! But I ordered the tacos that I thought came with refried beans. Did not there was a teaspoon of refried beans on the taco a little misleading. Food was good, drinks were good. Nice place A little more night club-ish music than I would've liked at five in the afternoon... Still the quality of the food overcomes it and the waitress was nice. I highly recommend the salmon avocado Cobb salad, I'd have that everyday of the week if I could. We let our server know we had somewhere to go, she got us out in a timely fashion and since we were staying at the sandman she also said my husband could take the dressing on the side dish with him up to his room in the to go container. I re-visited this location after maybe a 10-12 year hiatus! I remember back in the day Moxie's was pretty good, definitely on par with Cactus and the like, at the time. So (this location at least) it's definitely showing its age at this point. The atmosphere feels like a cross between a cactus and a white spot, like a in between I guess. Nothing was bad but it felt off, a bit. The service was good, it wasn't very busy. I came specifically for the Nachos, they were OK, they were average at best. The vanilla brownie wasn't bad either. I'm not sure I would return. Everything was pretty neutral across the board but the atmosphere was a bit lacking. That being said I would still recommend it on a 'give it a try' basis. read more

I went to Moxies in Richmond to try out the Chimichurri Steak Salad. I had first tried it at Moxies out of town and it was reallly good. Although the flavours were good and same as the first try out of town, this was disappointing. The steak was very raw and it was very chewy. ALthough it is suppose to be Certified Angust this was a bad cut. I complained and they offered to cook it more. However, with bad cuts of meat, cooking more does not improve it. In fact cooking chewy meat just makes it more chewy. Disappointing. read more

Since it was early (like 11:50am, just before noon), I had no parking issues and got seated immediately. At the onset service was great, very friendly and attentive. I decided to try something different, since this was my first time at Moxi's (and Richmond)... went for a the Spring Mix Starter salad (very good), then Ginger Teryiaki Rice Bowl with Beef and to finish it up I ordered the Desert Trio sampler. All very good. Then things got slow, it was about 1pm and the restaurant was full, my waiter was MIA (missing in action). Took forever to get my check, and then for someone to pick it up (with my credit card... actually the waitress never came, the manager saw my despair and took over). Anyway... I'm conflicted. I want to rate Moxie's higher but they didn't give me much of a reason to. If I were to give stars based only on the amazing Caesar I had, it would be a solid 5, so hats off to the bartender. We decided to try Moxie's for an early dinner a Sunday or two ago. We'd never been to one before but Yelp said this location was good! We were seated in an almost empty, dimly lit but classy dining area. We ordered drinks and browsed the menu. Completely underwhelmed by our choices we decided to just enjoy our drinks and find food elsewhere. The prices where high and nothing jumped out at me. This worked out well though, our waitress was totally fine with us just having bevvies and checked in on us a good amount of times. My Caesar was awesome and Shane G's beer was a-ok (his first time trying Molson M) I'd come back and try a meal some other time if someone suggested it, but it's kind of out of the way and pricey so it seems doubtful. Surprise surprise I had a great time here! I've had one or two bad experiences at Moxies before but this time, wow they did a great job! Came on mother's day (without my mom) for brunch for 2. Got a seat right away and they had some sort of deep fried pastry sitting out front in the waiting area that was dusted in powdered sugar that was amazing! We ordered a burger and a pizza and shared both. Both were deeeeeeelicious. The mushroom pizza was a little light on the mushrooms but still tasted great! Would you pay Milestone/Cactus Club prices for the calibre of food, decor and service of, say, The Pantry? If that doesn't bother you, bless your happy-go-lucky soul. If the answer is no, do yourself a favour and stay the hell away from Moxie's -- after all, they can best be grouped with the likes of White Spot and The Pantry before their recent rebranding/revitalization attempt as a Milestone/Cactus wannabe, which did nothing to elevate their culinary game, by the way. The place appears to be run by a bunch of kids who don't seem to care about customer service. We got the rudest waitress I've ever encountered, one who slammed our water glasses and dishes on the table, talked to us like we were there to hassle her, and kept spacing out while taking our orders. Don't get me started on the cheesy decor.. The food is borderline edible but nothing remotely good for what they are charging. Highway robbery for crappy diner-grade food, decor and service.
