Wow, just wow. I'm in awe of the building alone. It's rustic, artsy, and downright magical. The pizza is fantastic as you would expect. The menu seems well rounded in regard to pizza variety, as well as alcohol selection. Apparently they have breakfast food too? I'd love to give it a try. If I'm correct, breakfast starts at 7:00am-11:00am. Then, lunch goes from 11:00am-2:00pm. It's not just that, either! Fresh baked goods are created here. Like...it just seems to get better and better. We came here today about 30 minutes before they were set to close. But, the food was still prompt and the staff were as friendly as ever. I really appreciate that...it means a lot in my book. The other customers were still nibbling as we left, no doubt enjoying the sheer awesomeness of this place. Five Word Summary: Winner of Best Pizza IMO I've ranted before about how I divide Pizza. This is the best Artisanal pizza in Louisville. Imagine Coals Pizza but almost impossibly better crust. The location is like stepping into the Giants house in Jack and the Beanstalk. The doors are oversized, two enormous chairs decorate one wall while a bright pizza oven is in the other corner. The bourbon soaked cherries are wonderful on the pizza and the home made Giardinera is a rare find. This place is worth the drive. Plus, I had a very convincing plea from a friend to try this place. There's not too much near this place beyond the accounting business next door and the railroad tracks across the street. Located in this beautiful, reconverted brick building, it might be easily mistaken for something entirely else. MozzaPi has parking along one side of the building. Not that I counted, but maybe 20 spaces? Inside has multiple large pieces of furniture to add to the aesthetics of the place. A spacious dining area with an open view of the oven where you can watch them make your pizza. There's also some enclosed rooms (?) and I saw some places to sit out back and also upstairs on a loft. Needless to say, there's a lot of seating here, but I'm not sure if there's enough parking to accommodating filling the entire place. ==The Service== Everyone was delightful and genuinely wanting to help you. You order at the counter past the dining area, where they give you a number for your table and you grab your cup of water. The cashier suggested the Spinach and Ricotta pizza as her favorite, so I went for that. Also while I was seated, another person [sorry, I didn't ask who you were!] checked on me a few times. I get the feeling he was genuinely ready to strike up a conversation about the place...sometimes you can just feel the enthusiasm and pride from someone without talking ;) ==The Food== The pizza is a small, personal sized pizza. Cut into 8 mini slices, I guess you could share it, but 1 is enough to fill a single person. As much as I love margerhita pizzas, the spinach and ricotta is a welcomed change perfect for summer. Why? The fresh, crisp spinach and the cool and mellow ricotta are something to experience on a hot summer day. As a nice surprise, the red pepper flakes give it a tamed heat (I wouldn't classify it as anything near 'spicy'). ==Last Notes== The menu is short and to the point. This restaurant was amazingly delicious. l visited this place for lunch while in Louisville for a business trip. I'm one of the most critical people when I go to a restaurant, so the fact that I loved this place says a lot. I can never go to a restaurant without complaining to myself about at least 3 things when I leave, either about the food or service. Just for starters, the building looks amazing. It has an antiquated red brick outside appearance, with really pretty giant blue door things on the outside. The inside is like a huge open plan with really cool lights, a table with desserts spread out on a bar, and some kind of flour mill in one of the side rooms. And there is a big copper pizza oven in the kitchen where all the pizzas are cooked. I couldn't help but take a bunch of pictures when I walked in. Anyways, the food: We got the sweet onion sausage pizza, spinach ricotta pizza, goat cheese spinach pecan salad ... I can't describe in words how incredible the food is. For dessert: chocolate chip cookie, caramel pecan brownie, and corn cookie. They mill their own corn flour for the cookies, and the flour they use for the pizza, I think is milled in-house too. The tomato sauce for the pizza is not like anything I've ever tasted, and the carmelized onions, ricotta and mozzarella. The focaccia bread is fluffy and chewy, two giant chunks, each the size of your hand. If you look closely at it, you can see all the work that went into stretching, making, and baking this bread. Absolutely fabulous pizza and super friendly staff/owner! We went in with our 1-year-old for an early lunch on Saturday. It was pretty quiet, so we got a chance to speak to the owner about his business, pizza, etc. The food speaks for itself (5 stars+++), but I love how friendly everyone was! We had the Onion Marmalade and the Florenza. The marmalade had the most unique and amazing combination of flavors. The Florenza was light and refreshing. Highly recommend both, but definitely try the marmalade. The restaurant itself is also really cool - almost like an older church-feel with lots of cool craftsmanship in the woodwork. This little place is off the beaten path, but definitely a wonderful place to stop. The building itself is amazing, with large doors that make you feel like you are sitting outside. The staff is very friendly and helpful, since it was our first time in, and had no clue what to order. The menu is very eclectic and the flavors come together in an amazing burst of fun. Every year my "chicago" friends and I gather in Louisville to celebrate life and just a chance to be together. This year we decided to change things up. Typically we just go out to eat. I had heard that MozzaPi was delicious and the space was beautiful. I went to their website, and saw they had pizza making classes. They also have classes for making bread. We made a reservation for 8 to do the cooking class via reaching out through email. Lori was very quick to respond and gracious. There is no dinner service as of yet, so we had the entire place to ourselves! This is a family run operation. Tom, the owner and head pizza making man, built the barn himself. He said, if it does not have an engine, he built it. The space is breathtaking. High ceilings, awesome light fixtures, a gorgeous copper wood-burning oven, and a gigantic grandfather clock that is flanked by enormous barn doors that fold open in the warmer months. The colors of the doors pay homage to the 2 train lines the run. Blue for one train line and red for the other train line. I totally geek out to small details like this. When we first walked in, Tom was pulling out a homemade focaccia bread to start. Seriously, the best focaccia I have ever tasted. Lightly salted, cruchy outside, and fluffy inside. Wow. Onto the class. The class was slated from 5-9 pm. We were ushered to the back room with scales where we each weighed out our flour, sugar, yeast, and poolish to create their recipe for dough. All while sipping on delicious Cabernet that MozzaPi hand picks. Once we had finished our dough, we headed out to the oven where some prepared dough was ready for us to make! We had options to make a margherita as well as a white sauce pie. A salad had been freshly tossed with a delicious ground mustard dressing. Tom showed us what to do and we all took our turns making pies and then quickly consuming them. There were a couple of pizza dough casualties, but everyone was so light hearted that it did not even matter. Everyone was having an awesome time creating and eating the fruits of our labor. Simple ingredients make for the best pizza, it turns out. There were a few parents in the audience, and they were getting tired. One requested coffee and Tom got so excited! They roast beans in house and made us delicious espresso. I am not kidding. Everything about this experience was top notch. Nothing short of magical. The people of MozzaPi are so thoughtful. Not one part of this place or their food has not been deliberated over or detail left ignored. Once we were finished making pies, we partitioned our dough so we could take them home! How cool!? Last but not least, when we were leaving he sent us home with breakfast breads. I get so excited for places that exist like this. MozzaPi oozes with love. I cannot say enough positive words about this place or the family that runs it. I hope that this is just the beginning of a very fruitful journey for them. It took 40 mins to get our pizzas (party of two) and 50 minutes to get our salad. The focaccia is served cold. I prefer my bread at least a little warm. When I asked them about it, they assured me they serve it cold. Drinks are all bottled or cans. There are no refills for anything. You can get yourself some room temperature water by the register. No ice. While waiting for a table, you have a view of many dirty tables all around you. But you'll have to circle them like a vulture to get a clean table when the staff finally gets around to cleaning one so you can sit before someone else does. This was my first and certainly only time coming here. The pizza was ok, but the whole experience was terrible. Don't waste your time or money. Finally made it in on a Saturday early evening and asked myself why I waited so long! A bit early for dinner but there were 2 to 3 parties already inside and eating when we arrived. Order at the counter, a small but appetizing menu with the basics, simply apps, basic salads and 9" artisan Pies! A decent selection of craft and domestic beers, wines, soft drinks and coffees (scones, cookies, etc.) for after dinner. I selected a 1020 Brewing offering of a Russian Imperial Stout called "The Machine" and it was a very good start to our first visit. The House Salad was split onto two plates for my wife and I to share, the Dijon and Lemon dressing atop fresh arugula and assorted greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and a small amount of carrot made for a great salad with a piece of Focaccia bread! We ordered a Chorizo de la Espana and their Sweet Onion Marmalade pizzas, both pizzas were on point, ingredients very fresh and well portioned. The crust on the Pizza is light and crispy with a little chew, the texture and flavor sets these pies apart from other thin crusts I have had most anywhere else. We were so impressed with MozzaPi that we actually had them to cater my daughter's Wedding at the Mel Wood arts Center and if you haven't tried their catering service it's amazing! They bring their Brick Fire Oven and make the pizzas that you narrow down for the guests. We had a very nice selection Sweet Onion Marmalade Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza,Spicy Giardiniera Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza & Rosemary Focaccia! They make the pizzas right there along with the s'mores. It was a big hit at my daughter's wedding! We do stop in there from time to time and it's always a treat it's the best pizza in Louisville! read more

Words can't describe how much I enjoyed my MozzaPi breakfast. My friend and I came here last second when our original Sunday brunch place was closed, which is possibly the best thing to happen to us because MozzaPi surpassed expectations. The inside is super cool and well designed with wooden details everywhere. It is extremely inviting and cozy with different size tables making it very accommodating. They serve a variety of coffee drinks and teas. I just got their brewed coffee but their cappuccinos and lattes looked very good. And they are served in super cute mugs. The breakfast menu is pretty small, but I was happy with the options. There are a handful of breakfast sandwiches to choose from, pancakes, and a rotating pastry selection. I ordered the burrata and pesto sandwich and added an egg to it. They were out of the sourdough English muffin it came on but they subbed it for sourdough toast, which I preferred. The sandwich was so delectable - the toast soaked up the oils from the pesto, the egg was cooked just right, and the cheese so gooey. And they were very generous on the cheese and pesto. The sandwich also came with delicious grits that complimented it well. My friend ordered a variety of pastries - cinnamon crunch scone, cheese danish, and chocolate chip cookie. She was kind enough to let me try them all and each was perfection. I'd highly recommend the cheese danish; it was so flaky and the cream cheese so velvety. I will definitely have to go back to try their pizza at lunchtime. read more

I went and tried this place for the first time with my mom for Louisville Pizza Week, and it was by far the best pizza we had all week! We kept it simple and tried their cheese and pepperoni pizzas, along with their rosemary focaccia plate, and corn cookies. You can easily tell all the food is made fresh from scratch. The pizza is good classic wood fired pizza with a thin crispy crust and nice flavor. Even my mom, who is very particular about her pizza, was singing its praises! The focaccia was soft and fluffy, and the cookies are an absolute must-try in my book. They came out fresh and warm from the oven, and have a flavor I'd describe as similar to a pecan sandie. The atmosphere was pleasant too! Despite going during busy dinner hours we were able to place our order and be seated almost immediately and probably waited no longer than 10-15 minutes for our food. The staff was polite, friendly, and helpful, and despite the crowd it was never too loud to hear each other. Mozzapi is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area, and personally I can't wait to go back and try their breakfast food next! read more

Shew, this is GOOD pizza. I'm eager to try sandwiches, salads, and breakfast items in the future. The owner has clearly been studying his craft and refining his ingredients and methods--MozzaPi has, bar none, the best pizza crust I've ever eaten. I had the spinach & ricotta and my husband had the Iberico. We tried each other's and agreed they were both delicious. Husband was also pleased with the bottled beer selection. I don't know how frequently the menu changes here--there's no menu section on the website, and the restaurant just has a handful of printed menus available at the counter where you order. It was brief but a nice variety of items. The only small ding I'd give MozzaPi is that the person who took our order was not very attentive. After I said I'd just have water, she twice asked me what I wanted to drink. She was not familiar with the beers they carry. She also asked my husband twice if he wanted a glass for his beer. It was honestly kind of a weird interaction and I was glad for it to be over and get to our table. That said, I think we'll be more confident in the flow of things on future visits. Jenna and Miranda are the best baristas in Louisville, change my mind! ;) I finally got to try the pizza today and it was honestly the best pizza I have had in a long time. The whole place is so cozy and inviting and even with it full of people, still feels like a great place to get away from everything. MozzaPi is such a lovely lunch spot. The decor is adorable and absolutely charming. My favorite pizza here is the spinach and ricotta pizza which has gobs of fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheese and is covered in spinach. The house salad is bright and crisp with a whole grain mustard dressing and a fluffy piece of focaccia bread and shaved Parmesan. They also have really unique bakery items--my favorite is the corn cookie which is almost reminiscent of Captain Crunch cereal. Yum! read more

I went here for my birthday lunch with my family. The food is good and I liked the unique building and outdoor patio space. A few suggestions: As I pulled in there was one available parking space and as I left customers where pulling in and leaving because there was no place to park. I would suggest turning your front grass area into a few more parking spaces. I could barely back out because two cars wanted my spot. I had to pull into the parking lot (which needs a turn around spot) just to leave. I understand if construction is going on in the back that's fine and I do not really even mind the tools and such laying around....but during working business hours you should offer customers your best foot forward, scaffolding and wheel barrels, tools exct...suggestion would be to pick it up and organize things a bit to make it look nicer when your not using it..or maybe tarp/curtain a section off to store your items. With restaurants it's about the food and I've eaten at some funky little shanty shacks that could be rated 5 star dining and service and they where not pretty...but they also cost less. With a medium price menu range I feel like I shouldn't look at the mess while I eat. It's more of a good and atmosphere style place. We ordered a salad and my husband asked for ranch dressing and they said it came with a dressing on it. Neither of my kids ate the salad because they did not like the dressing. I'm suggesting add ranch ...who doesn't have ranch? I understand kitchen space is at a minimum but lots of customers would probably want ranch too. I would have liked cold water maybe with some ice. I've been here for lunch and brunch. The inside of this place is amazing, great ambience and you can eat h them make the pizzas in a large pizza oven. This last visit I had a sourdough breakfast sandwich with grits. The sandwich was really good, but I wasn't a fan of the grits, they lacked flavor. There coffee amd lattes are great as well, however their mimosas are very tiny. Another person in my group tried the blueberry pancakes and they looked delicious. Mozzapi is worthy of the hash tag #willtravelforfood. It is a little further outside of the city but worth the drive for delicious pizzas, mouth watering baked goods, fresh salads and filling subs in a beautiful building (is it a barn?) The high ceiling, brick finished, over sized copper oven and fun over sized decorations make for an inviting space to enjoy breakfast, brunch or lunch. I'm not usually a fan of pizzas but for MozzaPi I made an exception. All the pizzas are personal size (9''), good to share for a light meal or for someone with a hearty appetite. I can easily finished it by myself without feeling overly stuffed. I love that the ingredients are fresh, that my pizza is made on the spot and came out piping hot. My favorite so far is the Thai pizza and the Iberico Chorizo. My husband always thoroughly enjoyed all the baked goods enticing displayed by the cash register. The menu is small but the flavors are not. During this review, I realized I just wrote myself into a pizza craving in the middle of the night :-D. I'm looking forward to another visit soon! This place is GORGEOUS and worth the drive. It has the most beautiful wood working throughout the restaurant. You can tell the owner has put a lot of time, money and love into making the restaurant of his dreams. The pizza is fantastic. The dough is perfect. The topping combinations are interesting and not like anywhere else in town. I had the thai and my husband had one with sausage/cherries/rosemary (his tasted similar to Thanksgiving stuffing! It was exceptional!) We also bought english muffins to go (It was hard to choose on whether we wanted to come here for breakfast or lunch) and I was pretty happy this morning with that decision. The english muffins are thick and super sour dough tasting. Made for a great Monday morning treat! I would love for them to develop the back of their restaurant to model Kentucky Native in Lexington - it's one of the only places in Lexington that I think could pull off that vibe. I also would love to know about their S'mores - I see them here on Yelp but didn't see anything about it in the restaurant. If there is a S'more available, I always want to know! The architecture of this place was unique, there was some vintage feel to it, definitely intruiging. It's definitely a great place to try if you live in Louisville since it's a local restaurant. I ordered a Date and Walnut Scone since a friend mentioned they have the best breakfast pastries. I admit it was one of the best scones I've ever had! I ordered the Sweet Onion Marmalade Pizza and this pizza was very flavorful, I've never had this kind of pizza before but I highly recommend it.
