Lunch Jerk Chicken (Leg & Thigh) Mac and cheese Cabbage

The food isn't fresh enough. The best part about this place is the convenience she the flavor of the jerk sauce/gravy. The convenience is it's open before all of their competition. O start my days off early and I get hungry for lunch early and if I want jerk chicken before 11 this place is always open. But the quality of the good. It's the McDonald's of Jamaican food. 2008/014 was the peak of Mp island cafe.

Attitude was BAD. Restrooms were out of order. Had to wait extra than wait time for food without a working restroom for customers. Paid for 2 LARGE oxtail plates and got FIVE small behind oxtails in one of the boxes ..for 52 dollars. I should dispute

Food isn't that good. The service is terrible. They advertise a $6.99 lunch special but it's really $10.99 plus whatever fees they wanna add. I would recommend going to another place that's honest

MP has fast become my "go to when starving: spot in the Hampton Roads area. Any affectionate of premium Jamaica food will simply love this spot. This day I went with the large oxtails, their signature mac and cheese and collards greens. Oh, and let's not forget the slice of sweet potato pie, all of which was scrumptiously delicious. Without question, MP yall will see me again and again, bravo mon.

Oxtail Caribbean Dinner with collard greens and cabbage. No rice

This was our first visit since they moved to the old VFW location on Glenrock Rd 3 years ago. The setup looks great as the menu is back-lit. Nice little dining area if you decide to eat on location. The grocery store is stocked with great staples for carribean cooking. I ordered the last of the oxtail with cabbage and collard greens. I gave up rice for Lent. My husband ordered Jerk chicken-white meat with double order of cabbage. The staff was great. It wasn't busy went we arrived, but by the time we were finished eating they got really busy. We will be back

I stopped by MP's for lunch and to get some things from the store. The line can get kinda long during busy times. So expect to be there 15-25 mins on a busy day. They have oxtail, jerk chicken, fried chicken, salt fish, fried fish and etc. I ordered the fried chicken meal with 2 sides. They won't let you mix the chicken... Its either white meat or dark meat only. I got mac and cheese and cabbage. The mac n cheese was good, but the extra side i paid for was only a small amount. You get a smaller portion of sides with the fried chicken which was disappointing. When i went to eat it the chicken was soggy from the cabbage juice. That was a bit of a turnoff. The cabbage was just ok. I've eaten here before and liked it so maybe today was an off day. I want to go back to try the oxtail. They looked good!! The cornbread also looked good. On the other side is the store. I found a bag of chicken backs for only $3 which was a good deal. I also found some seasonings and snacks. The guy at the register was friendly and helped me figure out how to cook the chicken backs. I've never had them before. They sell rum cake snacks and different Caribbean drinks as well. I do like getting sazon and other goodies from their store. Check them out!!

Okay today I came in and the line was efficiently moving and as quick as the food was getting scooped out it was refreshed and restocked. Kudos on that which aided in the line moving smoothly without hiccups. All the workers today were attentive and on their game in the service line. The table top area still needed work and we opted to just go home and eat, but I like to recognize improvements when I see them. Food today was a Large jerk chicken large white meat with fried plantain and rice and peas with coconut muffins. My husband had a Large oxtail with white rice and gravy and cabbage and cornbread. Liked the improvements and keep up the great job gents and ladies

Babyyyy, don't you ever come to Norfolk and not stop at MP for lunch, dinner, a snack ... something! This is the first Jamaican spot I've been to that asks "light or heavy sauce?" It's a win either way so take your pick. I ordered the curry chicken, rice and peas, macncheese HEAVY sauce because that's my business. The guava peach was delicious as well. No complaints about anything. Order time was decent, clean interior and friendly staff. Plus, they have a grocery store connected so you can grab grub and odds, ends, fruits, vegetables and necessities. I believe it's family owned because it felt like we were around the dinner table. Carribean accents were real - I'll be back before I leave town.

My go to every time I'm in VA. Got my usual, oxtails and it was a hit as expected. The collard greens are NOT canned; bonus. If you like Jamaican food MPs is your spot.

Initially, I resisted choosing Coopers due to its lack of aesthetic decor and worries about how it would compare to pricier local venues requiring steep deposits. However, turning to Coopers turned out to be the best decision we could have made for a celebration of life repass. The staff accommodated our diverse group seamlessly. Cheri and the servers delivered next-level service, expertly managing a large crowd and handling every drink order with absolute grace. They seated family and friends up on a riser while thoughtfully arranging floor seating for our mature guests in their 80s using walkers and wheelchairs. While the venue's interior is basic, the food was the true highlight for everyone from ages 1 to 100. The Meats: The fried chicken was seasoned to perfection, and the baked chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender. The smothered pork chops with onions were so tender they could be cut with a fork, and the hot wings were a massive hit that disappeared quickly. The peel-and-eat shrimp was well-seasoned, and the shrimp fried rice--though a unique spin with plenty of shrimp and vegetables--was just average. The only real miss was the fried fish (Tilapia or Whiting), which had a fishy smell that could be resolved by washing it after defrosting. Pig feet looked tender and well seasoned I was told. The Sides: The candied yams were the undisputed star of the side dishes with just the right amount of sugar and syrup. The mashed potatoes tasted genuinely homemade, and the cabbage was a hit for most with a nice flavor profile. The collard greens, green beans, and macaroni and cheese drew mixed reviews, leaning middle-of-the-road, while the salad bar and cold salads like potato and macaroni salad were solid additions. Vegan/Vegatrian - Salad bar (Please ask question on the other sides) Collard Greens and String Beans may have meat or meat broth. Pescatarian - Peel and eat shrimp and fried fish STANDING OVATION to the cooks in the back they need more recognition of being able to cook for a diverse age and taste buds. Please keep in mind these cooks are cooking for a large diverse crowd some patrons have food restrictions due to medical issues and cannot have highly seasoned and spicy foods. So, the cooks cannot be creative with the seasons like other restaurants or your home. A must try is the Chicken (Fried and Baked), Smothered Pork Chops, Turkey Wings(Sunday), Cabbage and Yams. These are solid staples everyday of the week. Coopers restuarant offered incredible value, avoiding the exorbitant hundreds or thousands of dollars charged by traditional catering halls/restuarants for uncertain headcounts, and ensured we didn't waste food. Most importantly, it gave us a spacious, welcoming environment to fellowship and honor a loved one together. If you need a accommodating venue with great food and reasonable pricing for a large group, seriously consider Coopers restuarant.

The meatloaf was a decent portion, but very bland. The ketchup helped it somewhat. The Mac and cheese was bland as well but it was cheesy, so I was ok with that. The texture and everything was fine.
