The customer service was good. The jerk chicken never disappoints even though for a large the portion size was pretty small, but this usually isn't an issue. Now this mac and cheese is an issue. I tried out MP again and must say it was very good. Got jerk chicken (dark) take out, and it was very tender with crisp skin nice spice. The cabbage was on the softer side but it was good. I also ate there last night during the buffet hour and the selection was good but do not have ox tails on the buffet. Service was good and food was good!!! Will come back. read more

Cutlass Grille is SO much better. Can't figure out for the life of me why people flock into MP like it's the last supper. Food is gross (bland, chicken dry, jerk sauce tastes like it's from a bottle), service is slow and unfriendly, price is moderate. Top it off, everything tastes like they used the same seasoning....Mac n cheese, cabbage, rice all taste the same. Rice and peas dry as a bone...I had a whole plate of leftovers, took them home, and ended up throwing it out...just not worth eating. I gave it two stars because they do have a good variety...but none of it tastes good. I keep going back thinking I MUST have just gone on a bad day...after all they shld know Island food right? I have co-workers who claim the food is A-MAZ-ING. NOT!! After trying a couple of times, I was seriously disappointed. The rice-and-peas - staple of any worthwhile Caribbean restaurant were average. Food was decent, service was awful. None of the employees seem to want to be there. They are have no manners or customer service skills, won't even smile or say you're welcome. Weird approach when paying, they let 10-15 orders build up and then make everyone pay at once. This is great food at an unbeatble price. Nothing fancy, primarily designed for take-out (though they do have some seating). I always get the lunch special and choose jerk chicken, rice and peas, and plantains. All with extra jerk sauce. You get a goya bottled soda too, all for $5.50! My friends alternate between jerk chicken and curry chicken w/ various sides. It is all really good and we NEVER leave hungry! It's delicious, fast, conveniently located, and cheap. This is a place with good food and hit-or-miss customer service. I called in an order over the phone and asked for two items listed on the menu. I heard the lady yell to the back to ask whether they had it available. I would think that curry shrimp would be available anytime the place is open...but...okay. I asked for my side order to be rice, and plantains (which I love). Well, I came to pick up my order and the cashier hurriedly gave me my items. I can take partial fault in not checking but they forgot my plantains. I bring this up because it's not the first time they have forgotten something in my order, and it's usually plantains. If they're not available most of the time, I think they should be excluded from the menu. I was still charged full price for something I didn't get, and by the time I realized this, I was busy at a function I had to attend in the evening. If it wasn't for that, I'd go back and at least get a partial refund. The quality of the food is usually good, but customer service is lacking. The lady who took my order on the phone completed the order by hanging up on me before I could ask how long it would be for pickup. I don't like that at all! The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice and comfortable, and they get points for decor. The unavailability of some staple items frustrates me. I haven't tried their buffet but I heard it's good...Overall i'd like to give it five stars but I think it's only worth of two, in my opinion. read more

This place used to be good. Recently i went (today) because it had been awhile since i had good Caribbean food. As i arrived i paid for a buffet which is what i always do and order a side of oxtail. The food, all the food which wasn't much at the buffet was cold. Not like it had been sitting out cold but cold like it just came out the fridge and they just tossed it out for people to eat. There was dust around the heating lamps/glass covers , bugs crawling around the food also. There was also roaches crawling on the wall where i was sitting . The waiter also took 15 minutes to get my drink. This place is a total disaster. I wouldn't feed the food here to my dog , or my worst enemy. After seeing the bugs everywhere i immediately just left. I spent $50 for the buffet and oxtails which i left on the table. I completely wasted my money. I gave this place a one star but they don't even deserve that. I have been going to MP's since 2010 until recently when I stopped. I have never had a problem with any employee that worked there until recently. There is a server that works in the morning at the food display counter where you order you food. She has a short hair wig cap and a nasty attitude. She is condescending and I will never go back until she is gone. I will not pay to be disrespected. I ordered my food, she does not give me a utensil packet which is standard for every order I have ever gotten. I asked for a water when I ordered, but she rang up my food, didn't get the water, meanwhile making me wait for her to ring up the woman behind me before she got my water. I realized I did not get a silverware packet then ask the bitch for a spoon, I said spoon instead of silverware packet, so the bitch starts whining "You asked me for a spoon, I gave you a spoon." I say "I meant a silverware packet." (which the bitch should have given me in the first place) Then, I put it back when she gives me the silverware packet. "She starts wining like a 3 year old that I put the spoon back. Speaking to me like she is my mother saying "Why would you put the spoon back?" Because bitch, I could have thrown it at your disrespectful ass, but I didn't. Don't go in the time before lunch, that is when this bitch works. I will be takin my business elsewhere, and whenever she doesn't work there I will be back. I gave the restaurant 2 stars because up until now they had great employees. I can only comment on what i have HAD and LOVED. The jerk chicken, curried goat, brown stew chicken, mac n cheese, sweet plantains.... all very good and delish in our opinion. My husband gets the beef /chicken patties with cocoa bread and doesn't complain either! :) All in all, good value for the money and great tasting food.! Yes, it's located in a strip mall, but we care more about how the food TASTES, rather than location. Also has a mini market type set up on the inside, great for your island "fix". The sad thing is the food looked as if it would taste good and didn't. Visited this establishment on 8/24/13 while vacationing in VA. I am used to authentic, good, well seasoned Jamaican food and this place did not deliver. Soup on the weekends is a Jamaican tradition. The chicken soup we ordered was more like chicken broth. Flat with no body, hunky pieces of carrots, yams, and other yard vegetables . It was so extremely disappointing. The jerk chicken was no better, smothered in a harsh tasting jerk sauce over stale rice and peas that were dry and could not have possibly been made with coconut milk. I was in the Va Beach area visiting from Durham NC, when this place was recommended. Beware!!!! This place is just plain nasty! I had on sandals and my feet got totally wet when I stepped on the rug in front of the fountain drink machine. I went into the bathroom to try and dry my feet off, the bathroom was so dirty( same bathroom the employees use) that what little food I had ate was returned to sender. My dinner party and I left immediately. They have to do better with cleanliness. When I'm back in the area, I can never eat there again. read more

My husband told me about this place. The other day, we were out and I asked him to take me there because I wanted to try it. Upon entering, the atmosphere was very laid back. There were people talking and laughing. The staff were all authentic Jamaicans which was awesome because you go to lots of places that sell Jamaican food but the coins are not Jamaican. The staff was very busy so there weren't too many smiles. However, they were quick. I asked for yellow rice which I didn't get because I'm assuming she forgot because it was so busy. But I got curry chicken, Mac and cheese, and cabbage. My husbAnd had the ox tail, greens, and peas and rice. Everything was delicious. The curry, though, was basic. It didn't wow me at all. My husband curry is much, much more flavorful. He's Jamaican and can really cook. So in comparison to his curry, their curry gets a D. I gave them 3 stars because thru were quick and everything was good except for the curry which was just meh. Oh! And I forgot about the coconut muffins! Now they were spectacular!
