Who else can relate to this - you're home for a Christmas vacation and gyms in the area are charging $20 for a day pass? Ridiculous. We stumbled upon MPG through a google search before leaving San Diego for Plainfield. We called to inquire about day passes, and we were pleasantly surprised to find out they're only $10! After looking through pictures and seeing high praise in Yelp, we were in. We went for the first time today with free week passes I got from my parents. Unfortunately they weren't valid, but we were still able to get a week pass for $15! Even though we might only make it one more time, it still is a way better deal. The gym itself is better than what I expected. Plenty of machines and free weights, two deadlift platforms, a few racks, and a lot of machines I've only seen on IG but have been dying to use. There's also a huge section in the back for tire flipping or other functional training like rope climbing. It's also pretty impressive that they offer cryotherapy in the front of the house. Overall, this is a great gym. If I lived here I would definitely make this my regular gym, but alas I will just have to make it my spot for when I visit home. Thanks MPG! read more

Overall, great and upcoming gym in the suburbs! Facility is nice and people are serious about fitness here. There definitely is a sense of community here. My only con was when no longer being in the area for school it took around 2-3 months for my membership to finally get cancelled after relentlessly calling and e-mailing as instructed. I still have not received any refund for the 2 months of membership that was still charged to my account. Pushed to the extent I had to restrict them from charging my card through my bank account. Sebastian and the rest of the MPG team are very nice and helpful, but it was unfortunate I had to act like a "Karen" to simply cancel my membership in a timely manner. read more

I've been coming here for a few months now. Anthony the owner is very passionate about fitness and health. All of the trainers here are a wealth of knowledge and they are more then willing to help with questions. I like how clean they keep the gym and all of the equipment is in perfect condition and always working. The classes offered are well run and really work you over. They have all types of people working out here from weight loss to power lifters and body builders. Its a well placed location as well being right on Rt. 59. My favorite part and reason for reviewing is they now are the only place in the area that has cryotherapy. They have a company called freezepoint cryotherapy inside their gym that does whole body cryotherapy. They also offer normatec compression therapy. read more

I've been to so many gyms in my time while working out. always trying to find the best one. one that will motivate me the hardest. MPG fitness has been the only gym to do that. other commercial gyms don't have nearly the same effect that mpg does. the environment of this gym is everything. everyone is always training extremely hard, something you don't really see at other gyms. and it's the equipment that lets everyone do that. the equipment here is the best of the best. they got everything you'll ever want or need, and are constantly adding even more equipment. I've even switched gyms after going to this gym, but I always come back. there's nothing like this place. read more

MY ONE-WEEK GUEST PASS EXPERIENCE: For a few months I'd thought about joining a gym. I wanted to find a place that was close to home, on my way home from work, and reasonably priced (~$20/month). MPG Fitness fit the bill. Anthony gave me a tour. He is a very intense, passionate, and knowledgeable person. It quickly became clear to me that MPG is not a typical gym. The employees do not mill about, stand idle behind the desk, or chat on the phone. Every time I was here, they were all active, either working out themselves or training with other members. It's nice to see. There was no hard sell. They do month-to-month, one year, and two year contracts. Their rates are totally reasonable, the equipment is brand new, they offer equipment I'd never seen before AND they will show you how to use it. The gym itself is very clean, it was never crowded; and as involved as they are with their members, I felt welcome to come in, hop on the treadmill and just do my thing. I wasn't too interested in the free training session, until I met Lindsey, a very vivacious and friendly trainer who showed me a few new things when I asked her. Then she scheduled a training session with me for the following Monday. That Monday, (my week pass expired on the past Thursday), she texted me and asked if I could reschedule. No problem, I just moved my appointment to that Thursday, which turned out to be more convenient for me. Then, on Thursday, I got stuck working late. I texted her, apologized, and asked if I could reschedule. She said she'd get back to me. A week passed, and I texted her again, asking to reschedule. She said she'd get back to me. I never heard back from her. MPG is a great place to work out for novices who aren't completely insecure or intimidated. MPG is ideal for those who are more advanced and looking to change up their routine. Scheduling a personal training session is definitely tricky, but since it wasn't something I was initially interested in, I won't let that reflect my rating of MPG. I do intend to sign up here, but the communication fail to reschedule definitely had an impact on me going back recently. It's my own problem that I haven't come back to sign up or work out on my own. You know how it goes - working late, busy evenings, excuses excuses! But I do plan to go back. read more

I say it been a while since I been here but this gym is rigged, I remember they wouldn't allow you to cancel your membership on time, I had a couple membership and after a month passed I decided to cancel because I was at college at the time and had a friend sign up with me that wasn't going as much and as I went in I talked to the front desk a light skin guy he said they will handled it for me and I was on my way!!! But literally next month and month after that I was continuously getting billed and I wasn't paying attention till my account kept looking short and shorter till I looked at my statement MPG popped up and so I went in again and they asked about the account I cancelled, they end up saying I was deleted and the person under the couple account is the person I signed up with but didn't realized I was the main person under the account and was the only authorized one for the account and kept telling the same issue and the billing is under the person name I done brought in and next asked he can't do anything to change without the card that was on filled witch I had and I showed it next and it was handled but still got like 2 or 3 months off me still which I find shady but got like 1 month back of the refund. Just watch out on the membership and when you'll like to cancel make sure you show them your the authorizer under the account/membership and what card you used on files. read more

I have been a member of MPG Fitness for a little over a year now and a member of various other 'franchise' gyms for the last ten years. This is hands down by far the best gym in the area. The staff, facility, equipment, location, quality instruction and challenging classes are top notch. The trainers and staff are all friendly and truly care about helping you reach your individual goals. The instructors are phenomenal and the various programs offered cater to your specific needs based on your fitness level. Coming from running every day I was skeptical about making the change to weight lifting. After a few months at MPG I realized my body truly didn't need the cardio, I was getting better results from the weight lifting alone. I joined MPG at it's beginning in Jan of 2103; I enjoyed it and felt the staff cared about fitness and the members. Since then my experience has continued downhill. I've given suggestions and constructive input several times; some input taken, some not which is fine as long as all members are able to use the equipment and get a work out in. Sadly lack of the Staff monitoring the gym and member behaviors is causing an unbearable experience. When the owner is not present, one staff member constantly plays Death Metal music so loud I can barely hear my own music in my Bose headphones. I've asked several times for the music to be turned down as everyone but the 1 staff member has headphones on. I usually just give up now and try to get through it. He seems more concerned with working out himself while on duty vs member experience. Even when issues are raised to him, he continued to work out vs addressing the issues. The Staff is not helping new members learn how to work out nor gym etiquette which is impeding other members' work outs. Newer members just sit on the equipment on their cell phones or watching TV. Taking a rest period is normal; sitting there watching videos, texting, etc for up to 5 min periods without working out while others are waiting, is unacceptable. Given this is a small gym with limited equipment, those behaviors impede others who are actively working out. I've complained about this several times to the owner. I've also politely asked members hording equipment if I may "work in" to which many have no clue what that means. This lack of gym knowledge is understandable, especially for new members, but that's where the Staff comes in. The Staff should be monitoring this and suggesting super-setting or rotate through weight machines to maximize one's workout. If they want to take a 5 min rest period, it should be in the lobby so others can use the equipment. All of this could be avoided if the staff would pay attention and monitor or assist members to ensure all have a successful work out. The gym is a place for stress relief, not to be a cause of stress. Sadly, this is a regular occurrence, it's not one off, random situation. Tonight I was unable to get on the ONLY elliptical as someone was on/off it and barely moving as she was holding the handle bar with 1 hand and using the other hand to operate her phone for 45 min. 2 of the 3 flat benches were taken by members just sitting there on their phones impeding other members who were looking for benches to work out on. Another member constantly sits on the ONLY quad machine for 15 minutes at a time and does 1 heavy load once every 5 minutes. Again, these are all issues that could easily be resolved if the Staff would pay attention and engage with their members to ensure all members had a productive work out. read more

The membership fee is beyond reasonable for the provided services and equipment. MPG Fitness has a very welcoming atmosphere and is great for any fitness level. MPG fitness is one of the best gyms to work out at. Unlike other gyms such as Hometown Fitness and Planet Fitness, the staff and trainers at MPG care about all of their members. With a wide array of fitness equipment, there is something for everyone. MPG fitness also offers classes that I have never seen at other gyms. The classes are so distinct and personalized that is impossible to not get the best workout of your life. This gym continues to upgrade and remain at the top of its game. The equipment IS state of the art and takes some getting used to at first especially since it's not as crude as the other local gyms. The classes are challenging and rewarding. This place is awesome! The trainers here are extremely knowledgeable and they will help you get results FAST. I have worked with trainers before and they can't compare. They teach you exactly the correct way to do an exercise so you will get MAXIMUM benefit from the work you are putting in. Of course, you have to actually work, not just go through the motions. I was the second member to join MPG when it first opened its doors. It says a lot about a place when they build a large group of members who remain loyal to the gym. There are many choices in the local area, but no other gym listens better to what's important to its customers. Anthony always takes suggestions about the times of classes and the types of classes to offer, in addition to equipment needs.
