I haven't been to a location in almost 10 years so suffice to say I was very excited to come back! I got my usual signature berry bliss waffle and it was delightful. However it was outshined by the strawberry colada smoothie that was DEMOLISHED. My husband killed the cookie dough waffle, he got an espresso, and I ordered a side of bacon and another smoothie to go it was THAT GOOD!! I'm pretty sure we were greeted by the manager and assistant manager. Great service, great and BUSY location (I suspect they all are like this. They're just wonderful!) My husband said I didn't overhype it (even though I was drooling while I was describing this place to him lol) that it was a good call and he would go again. :) We'll see you next time! Thank you for the best trip down memory lane.

If I have to do this amount of work myself, then why am I tipping a server who only came to actually take my order because I completely different group of people actually brought my plates and a completely different group of people cleaned off the table and the plates. Wow, this is not necessarily a crime or unique to first watch. I will say that delicious food is only enhanced by incredible service and experience. So they really need to up their game.

Well my friends and I came in today. Cool it is not busy like it usually is on Sundays. So we peruse the menu yeah like we are going to change our orders. . NOT. So server comes back with the drinks. I order the famous meatlovers skillet and my friends order their food. Cool we are talking away waiting for our food. I am so ready to eat my skillet waiting for their yummy ham...... I notice our server is talking away to a lady sithing at counter. So waiting.........waiting........ waiting. ..... waiting. ........ Waiting. ...... server comes to refill the coffee. I ask her name Joanne. I ask about our order. She laughs and says I will check on it. So I watch as she "checks on it" The lady at counter gets up and goes into the back of restaurant. Are you serious??? That lady works there. So waiting..... waiting..... Joanne comes back says it will be right up. So I am getting upset like a Sunday wait for food. And the restaurant is empty.... so food comes and Joanne drops check and then goes talk lady at counter again. Never to return... I proceed to get up and get us to go boxes.. We go to pay. Lady asks how was everything, doesn't make eye contact, and is ringing up the check. I am complaining about Joanne and her service. Do you think she would stop ringing up the check and listen? NO.... I then ask for a manager. She looks up with a smile. And says I can help you with that I am the owner. I am confused now cause I know the owner as Andy! I stated Andy is he here. She smiles even bigger and says he no longer owns it. I paid bill she says anything else. NO I stated she says have a nice day turns around and walks away.. Well Lady. You might want to retrain the servers. And while you are at it take a class in etiquette and mannerism. You are the most unprofessional owner I have ever met. During the time I was complaining why did you not even acknowledge or act like you even heard or listened to my complaint. I will not return ever. I was here yesterday. They were busy and a group of us came in. I brought my friends here for their first time. Wow where they ever impressed. Had great service and the waitresses were doing a hustle. As I watched the girls stack food and carry the piping hot food to hungry guests. There was a line at the door of more hungry people continously coming in. Cheerfully the hostess greeted each and every one. We tried some food a meatlovers skillet and they have a half size skillet. Which was more than enough for me with thick chunky tender mouth watering ham. And there oreo pancakes were delicious. My one friend had a cajun skillet he said was great not over spicy but the kick catches you. They have so much variety of food. It is out of this world. And our other friend had a chicken Philly skillet he said he could not stop eating it it was so good. And of course they got a side of yup you guessed it HAM!!! There is no other place that offers this delicious food at a very fair price. But the servers were working their butt off making sure the customers were not disappointed.. our server was awesome.she was all over helping bus tables and seating guests. Well where to begin... it was not busy at all so as usual sat down to be waited on. A server comes and takes our drink and food order because we were ready. Food comes took a little bit longer than normal but whatever we ate. I was looking around for the normal people that work here. So I asked found out this place is no longer the same owner. And some of the staff that has worked here is no longer here. So I proceeded to eat and went to pay. The heavy set lady that was sitting at counter that stated anywhere you like when you walk in gets up from the place she hasn't left during this time. Slowly gets up and walks over like it was a burden to take my money takes the check, then the cash, and gives me change and turn around and walks away. Went today at about 10am. Pretty busy but a few things got to me. So I will explain service was beyond subpar. No coffee refills or water refills. The waitresses looked lost and confused. It is not like they are new. Food finally arrives hopin that will save the day right! Wrong cold and eggs not eve cooked way I ordered. Waiting for server come back. Nope still waiting. Came in to eat around 11:30 sat at the counter. Got service ordered my food my friend and I had soup. Soup was good. That's where it ended. We ordered Denver skillet and my girlfriend ordered ham and cheese omelet. It took forever to get. There was a heavy set lady doing a few to go orders. But that's pretty much it. She sees that I am out of soda you think she would refill it ?? Nope. So I try to flag any person to refill it but they were in their own world. Food comes after sitting there the heavy set lady saw the food up there. Now funny part "Why would I think she would give us our food?" We went there for breakfast. It was not busy; however, it took forever from the time of arrival until the time we left. The food was mediocre and not truly edible. The American fries were smothered in oil and had a very distinct unwelcoming taste. It lingered in your mouth for a long time and then made any other part of your meal unappetizing. The prices are ok but that is because the food is not good. The quality of food is not good now I see why the portions are not like any other place. I would rather take quality that a human can consume over quantity. But that is not Mr. Allison's ideology. The waitresses are not very personable and welcoming. The owner of this place is extremely RUDE. Lord help you if you don't like what you ordered or they bring you the wrong meal. He will embarrass you in front of everyone. He is very demeaning. A lot of slamming plates down on the table, handing you hot plates and poor service. Not a relaxing place for breakfast. its very loud and old & outdated. Some of our neighbors had a bad experience with the RUDE owner also and don't eat there anymore. Poor customer service. It has been know that the owner doesn't serve gays. Horrible person. I was at the "Ham Headquarters" this past weekend. I honestly don't know how anyone can finish the portions they give!!! Huge ham and cheese omelet!! The ham is cut off the bone and is tender and delicious. Great variety of menu items that even my picky 6 year old found something to enjoy. Simple,casual and a quick and friendly staff. And Baker's Square closed YEARS ago in SoCal. Missed their pies and baked goods! So imagine my (pleasant) surprise when I found this little place in Palatine! I decided to head there for a brekky on a cool May morning. Stepped in, saw all the breads, pastries, and pies along the front counters- wow. I was greeted warmly and seated instantly. My waitress came right away, and I ordered unleaded (decaf for those in the know). It came in a little pot, ala IHOP, and was really, really GOOD. Wow. Decaf has come a long ways from the Sanka days! I ordered the INN-CREDIBLE V.I.B. which allowed me to order 4 yummy items of my choice - I chose the french toast (yummy and spiced just right albeit w/room temp syrup- not a deal-breaker but notable), a strawberry crepe (totally awesome strawberries, but the crepe was a bit colder than expected); scrambled eggs (always a nice stalwart) and two turkey sausage links (as with the frenchie above, nicely flavored!). The ambience was modern, updated, and felt welcoming and (thankfully) a bit familiar. Brought back some good ol' memories even if only the Baker's Square part of the menu was just pies nowadays. But the Village Inn lives on! And that counts - and I'll return. You should check it out too if you enjoy a good brekky at a classic American diner!
