After eating Fratellos hotdogs for the past few months, I got them tonight from Portillo's. YUCK!!! The tomatoes were not fresh and mushy. The amount of relish that they put on the dogs made the buns mushy as well. I couldn't tasted any mustard either. They were just a huge disappointment. Lesson learned...from now on I only get my hotdogs at Fratellos!!! Also, it is much more convenient to order from Fratellos by phone and pickup my orders at the drive thru window. Great Chicago style dogs and beefs. Giardinara is $1 extra, which seems high. Fries are unnecessarily expensive and always under-salted, but good. I went to Rolling Meadows preschool as a child (around 1995-1996) and came to Fratellos all the time. We used to drive through and pick up food and then eat at the park near the library. I remember ordering beef sandwiches. I took my boyfriend through the drive thru as we were driving through Rolling Meadows. We hadn't eaten and I was in the mood for some nostalgia. I ordered a hot dog and he ordered a small fry. The hot dog was fresh and my boyfriend said he thought they were the best crinkle fries he ever had. Outstanding homemade Italian beef sandwich! They have nailed the flavor. Also a really good 1/3 pound burger. Their onion rings are better than most and their fries are good too. The owner is friendly and you can tell both he and his team take pride in the product they provide. It is not the cheapest option around, but the quality comes through and i don't mind paying a bit more for quality food. The dining area is kept spotless. I love their sides: fried mushrooms, jalapeño poppers, and mozzarella sticks. They all have just the right umami saltiness and spice while maintaining crispy bite while juicy without being soggy. Their ( for vegetarians) grill cheese is one of the best without being soggy or greasy or overly stale grill bite like others may have. The gyro that I ordered was dry and like beef jerky, even the extra tzatziki sauce wasn't enough to moisten to be palatable. The Male manager has a narcissistic attitude and speaks down to you and is a very rude and presumptuous person. Very unpleasant meal and experience. For some reason, I feel like the Portillo's near us changed their hot dogs. Last ones we ordered weren't so good and had a thicker skin and were just lukewarm. We wanted a good, Chicago style beef hot dog on a poppy seed bun and this place delivered! A little slower at the drive through, but the hot dogs and fries were really good. For years we've driven by Fratellos and finally stopped in. It was a cold and rainy fall afternoon and we were the only people in the seating area. Fratellos is a real old-style Chicago hot dog joint. Dogs, Polish, Burgers, Tamales, Chili, Fries, Malts, and more. Unlike other hot dog places, the fries are purchased and served separately and not wrapped up with the dog. And, they are not cheap - one burger, one small drink, one gyro, and a shared fries was $19. The seating area was not particularly clean. There are about a dozen booths with sticky tables. We tried to find one that was clean but didn't have much luck. The fries are not hand cut as you find in other places, but they were good - very crisp. As for the burger, the meat was mushy - perhaps ground too fine although I'm certain they don't grind their own meat. The gyro was just okay. Personally, I like it when they cut it off the skewer and crisp the meat before serving. And, the pita was warmed in a microwave and not grilled on a flattop. This is an average mom and pop beef place in Chicago. Hot dog was good, fries were like the McDonald's type. They were very generous with the fries. Beef was good. The burger tasted like frozen patty and hot dog was average. I would not crave this place but it works if I'm nearby and have a taste for a hotdog or beef. read more

I've never heard of Fratello's and they only have five reviews but seeing the building and eating there for dinner tonight, they've clearly been there over a decade! It's not a big hot dog joint but it was packed with families. I had a hot dog, fries and a drink for $6.33. I liked the skinny cut fries because they weren't loaded with salt and I was able to eat them without dying of thirst! The hot dog was just your regular run o the mill hot dog, solid enough. Some food was good but hamburgers are reheated. Must be soaked in broth as hamburger was overly wet. My first visit seemed great for us but they seemed annoyed with a different customer. A few hours later sent sons in to get additional food items, but owners were blatantly rude to them. "They invest in signs so learn to read them!" Amazing food! It's our neighborhood destination being a couple blocks away. We just moved to Rolling meadows and several neighbors made recommendations to go here. Very pleased with the food and service. The cheese burgers are fresh and juicy and the onion rings and cheese fries hit the spot.
