This is such a great place in the neighborhood to grab a hearty bite to eat for a reasonable price. Driving by, you might almost miss it since it isn't that big of an establishment but once you go inside, you can find all of your standard favorites from a burger joint. Service is fast. Food is great. Not much more you can ask for! read more

What can I say about this place? Simple menu and incredible sandwiches. Right near the brickyard shopping center. The steaks take like 5 minutes to cook with simple seasonings. You can customize them however you want them. Mine in the picture is just grilled onions. All sandwiches come with fries. Hand cut and big portions. They are so tasty. My mom got the Kabob sandwich which are steak and grilled onions. Best quality steak sandwich I've had in a long time. Now I'm slapping myself. Why didn't I go for the chili? My mom ordered it and I tried it and it was so good. I'm not a bean eater and this didn't have that much. Guess that will be the next thing I get and the Italian Beef sandwich too. read more

On the corner of Diversey and Normandy, there's an old white house where you can see human traffic and grilling goodness. Hence, do not be afraid to walk into the door. Oh by the way, lunch for two (2) is under $20, so have your cash ready. Daddy J. and I were 100% sure that we made the right decision to come here for lunch. Speaking of the grill, that thing was HOT. Fortunately, the Midwestern chilly late August sorta kicked in, not to mention the ventilation here was quite alright. We had their signature steak sandwiches, with raw onions and tomatoes. O.M.G. Daddy J. and I kept on "bubbling" our heads (well, we weren't high), but it was because our food was Delicious, with a capital "D." Every order comes with made-to-order fries, super amazing that was! The man of the house, Mike, was very hospitable and beyond nice. He treated each and every customer like his family. Although the seating wasn't, at all, ample, Mike would come out, wipe the table, and invite us to sit down. Rosa J. and Daddy J. were not strangers of making friends with "strangers." When there's great food on the table, you can miraculously turn enemies into your friends! I have been going To MrDs for Over 20 yrs. The place hasn't changed a bit. I have never had a bad experience here. The food is Always phenomenal! Can't rave about this place enough. I always make a point to refer this place. I've brought people here that absolutely fell in love with this place, and always tell me I got them hooked. I wonder if they'd let me cut some fries!!! Lol, if you're reading this! Go get yourself some of this and thank them for the great food and Service you'll receive! Hands down one of my favorite joints. read more

Since I first discovered this location with my dad, it was our go too for the steak sandwich with fries and of course the grilled onions that came with it. The Italian beefs are also a staple. Very clean location. The owner is always friendly, he loves telling stories to the regulars. Akways would roll up his sleeves to help out with the long lines. Very friendly staff. Quick service. You get your food in no stop, hot and delicious. You never go wrong with Mr. D's if you are ever in the area and want something. Stop here you will not be disappointed. FYI if you get the chili cheese dog, do not ask for everything. They will put like mustard and a pickle on it. Just be clear hot dog, cheese, chili, and you will be fine. read more

Non descript store front and a sticky door, but once you're inside the smell is AMAZING. Very simple menu with literally no frills. The food is fresh and made to order. It's literally a family run place with Mom on the register and phone and either Dad or son on the grill. Both men are very capable but, I prefer when the son cooks. Anything you order will be delicious, especially the fries. read more

Been going here over 40+ years! Your first time here get the steak sandwich, everything here is excellent . Fries are the best in Chicago. You can't go wrong with anything here from the hotdog, beef etc. if you never been here you will kick yourself why you waited so long to come.the only thing you will regret is why you don't come sooner! Seems like a good place if you've been going there for 30 years. Went in, got skipped because the owner started taking care of some guys he seems to have known even though they came in after me, then got served a raw steak sandwich. I didn't even realize I was chewing raw steak till half way through because the outside was burnt to hell. Might just been a bad day for Mr D, but being served raw steak isn't acceptable. Didn't bother going back because I can't imagine it would have made a difference. read more

Anyone who gives this place a bad review is definatly a wackjob! If you like the old school "char burger" or dont, you will love MR D's for life when you try it. Super Old School "Lunch Counter" joint on the corner of Normandie & Diversey; you won't see many like this anymore!! Walking in you'll notice a husband & wife team with Mr. D running the grill. Small stand up counter as well as maybe 5 tables.. the place is tiny! Simple to the point menu with everything from a steak sandwich to hot dogs to chili... and don't forget the famous shish kabobs! Holy moly, the food here is fantastic!! I just ate the pork tenderloin shish kabob and fell in love. It's marinated to perfection, charred, yet still juicy. The bread was extremely fresh and soaked up the juices from the pork, making it very tasty. And the fries are so good that you don't need any ketchup. I never noticed this place before because it's a hole in the wall, but do not be fooled my friends...this is quality food for a decent price. I can't wait to order again. CASH ONLY read more

I love this place. Husband and wife owned & operated over 40 years. Amazing sandwiches from Shish-Kabob sandwich, steak sandwich to burgers and Italian beefs. They make everything right in front of you cook to order everything comes fresh off the grill super hot juicy tender...mmmm...flavors are on point!! Fast food place only open until about 6PM, so just a lunch kind of spot. Great Kabobs and steak sandwich's the Kabobs are actually not steak they are pork tender loin, but that's OK as long as you are OK eating pork, this is one of my favorite spots for fast food hole in the wall treat. French fries are awesome he actually gets these extra long potato's and cuts them the long way so you get these really long fries (worth the trip just for the fries) not the cleanest place in the world, but I will let it go for this type of place. The order was ready prior to the 15 minute mark which impressed me - super fast! The food tasted amazing the cheese burger was perfect and the fires were super tasty too! The Cheeseburger is on Portillo's and Culver's level so that should tell you how good it is!! I definitely recommend everyone in the area to try this burger joint! I will be returning again!! :)
