Such an unexpected find in Daytona Beach MALL! It was my first time at Mr. Dunderbak's, so I didn't know much going in, but the young lady who helped me was super informative and friendly. She even let me sample a beer before committing since I wasn't sure if I'd like it BUT I DID ! The whole place feels like a little slice of Germany, with quirky signs, cool decor, and a deli full of fresh meats and cheeses. I had the Der Black Russian : triple decker, ham, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, served with a pickle and chips. Perfect lunch meal! There's plenty of seating, from tables to the bar, so room for the whole family & this spot was full of good vibes. Playing the latest 80s and 90s maybe 70s too but idk. They've got games, souvenirs, and a staff that makes you feel welcome. Definitely coming back when I'm in town again!

This is my first time at the Volusia Mall and it's a typical mall. There was nothing to break about except for this small German place. Bar? Restaurant? Store? This place is decked out with tons of vintage signs, cool craft beer and a nice deli menu with tons of options. The atmosphere was really cool. When I went to the mall to go to stores, I didn't expect this to be my favorite place. I don't know what I'm gonna eat. Next time I go back, but I will definitely be trying one of their beers from there. absolutely huge collection of options. I got the Reuben sandwich because I asked and that's what they told me was the best seller. It was a nice sandwich that I didn't think was too overly priced. $13 for a Reuben on rye bread and with potato chips. It definitely deals and looks like it's a Volusia County Staples. If you're in the area, you should at least walk by and look around.

What a portal! We were in the mall when we noticed the interesting name and storefront. Drawn in, our party looked over the expansive menu and concluded there was something for everyone. We stepped in and were happily surprised by how cool the interior was! Lots to look at while you wait for food. Although, because there is so much stuff, the space could use a thorough dusting. Service was great! Our server was prompt, friendly, and created a comfortable environment for everyone. Food! We loved the fried pickles! That was our favorite item. I enjoyed my sausage platter, but the sauerkraut was too salty. The pickled red cabbage good and the bratwurst was delicious with a good snap. Overall an interesting German place with great service and a big menu.

How cool? A little Germany right by the beach. You don't have to catch a flight and travel 14 hours to grab your favorite German snacks. I love coming here. It's nostalgic and truly authentic. Food is incredible and the ambience is exactly what you want! I almost forgot I'm in Daytona beach and not in Europe. Been coming here for years and I shall continue.

Heard about Mr. Dunderbak's shortly after moving here and was excited to find a place with German and European groceries! Happy to have a local source for red cabbage, good pickles, cooking mixes and especially baking supplies & cookies! They have decent food (although wouldn't really call it a German menu) with a variety of sandwiches. Great selection of beers from all over the world! Lots of cool stuff to look at on the walls and shelves. Nice candy selections in the deli - we have purchased meat and cheese several times but meat was definitely rancid once. Maybe deli item turnover not high enough? Service when good is great but sometimes a little slow.

LOVED the food here. Its such a fun and authentic German restaurant that has been around in Tampa for ever. Went during the holidays, so they were running a little Christmas market on the inside with all kinds of German holiday candies and gifts. They always have the retail open, they sell all kinds of German goodies and chocolates - even Haribos that you cannot find in the US! Food wise, I ordered the sausage platter with 2 different types of sausage, sauerkraut, and homemade apple sauce. I loved the kraut and applesauce, so delicious. The sausage I liked the most was the kielbasa! We did order dessert, but were surprised by how long it took. We waited about 30 minutes for dessert which was strange, and the server never came to the table to check in with us or update us, seemed like he was avoiding the table lol. We had the strudel with vanillas ice cream. YUM, would come back just for that. I will definitely love to return soon :)

1000000/10. I first tried this place in Tampa, and was surprised to know they had one much closer to where I live! It was my birthday weekend and all I wanted was a good schnitzel. Yelp'd "German food" and this was the first place to pop up in the Daytona area. What we didn't realize was that it was inside the Volusia Mall. We parked and entered right in. Lit up in red, we were so intrigued. We were self sat and was immediately taken care of. I ordered the Jaeger schnitzel with American potato salad and German potato cakes, and my boyfriend order a bratwurst. We paired our meals with Leffe, which is what I always drank all the times I've visited the country. The food came out quickly, and let me tell you. My eyes lit up SO WIDE, I couldn't believe how good it was! Almost identical to Germany's. Food is so affordable and you really do leave full, the good kind of full. We stayed and drank more beer until closing, and played games they had on the counter. The place is clean and not too crowded. They also have a mini store you can purchase drinks, meats, toys and chocolates. Really brings you back home. I will forever crave this place. And it's WAY better and tastier than the one in Tampa. Best birthday dinner ever.

Jager schnitzel, German potato pancakes, homemade sauerkraut, delicious mushrooms sauce.

We miss Mr. Dunderbak's in NC. My husband said there were two in FL. We came home from a cruise and headed to Daytona. This Mr. Dunderbak's was just as my husband remembered. The space, the set up, the familiarity was just right. Been there 48 years, and I hope it lasts for many more. Our server was great! So sweet and kind, and it was nice to talk to her. Husband got the Reuben that came with chips. My kid and I shared cheese fries. Not fancy, but delicious. Kid got the wings. I had Big Burford, which was grilled chicken, pastrami, and cheddar. Never considered that combination, but it was yummy. If we ever get the chance to be in FL again, we will definitely go back.

    Weis bratwurst.

Let me start with this: I do not like wine…read more I've tried for years. I've ordered it at dinners, events, girls' nights... and I've rarely even been able to finish a glass. That's how much I typically dislike the taste. My preference? Sweet and fruity. Think Jolly Rancher candy. The only exception I've ever found was Ice Wine, which is rarely carried in restaurants or wine bars. So when we attended a work event here, I was honestly looking forward to the company more than the drinks. But I decided to be honest with our waitress. I told her I don't like dry wine, I prefer sweet, and asked if she had any recommendations. She introduced me to Sangue Di Giuda (Italy -- fruity, light, medium sweet, low alcohol)... and for the first time ever, I found a wine I genuinely enjoyed. I could actually sip it without making a face. At around $8 a glass, it felt very reasonable. They also offer full bottles for purchase, which I love as an option if you find something you enjoy. Beyond the wine, the atmosphere makes this place special. It's warm, relaxed, and perfect for conversation. It feels elevated without being stuffy -- the kind of place where you can linger and talk without feeling rushed. So this review is for two groups: * Wine lovers looking for a great experience * And the "I don't like wine but I'm here anyway" crowd Be honest about what you like. Let the staff guide you. You might surprise yourself like I did. We'll absolutely be back -- and yes, I'll be ordering the same glass again. Bonus: It's located in a plaza with great dinner options, so you can easily turn it into a full night out. We grabbed Greek food next door afterwards, and there's also Bronx House pizza at the end of the plaza if that's more your vibe (both are delicious!). Makes planning easy.

The wine tastings are Thursday 5-7 and do not disappoint it's a great way to try new wines and they give you a discount on bottles of the wines sampled that night. The ambiance is warm and inviting and the music is just the right genre/volume so you are still able to chat and catch up while sipping. This is a great one stop shop for premier wines - we have come in a few times and told them our favorite notes/food it's going with and they help you find the perfect bottle. Highly recommend!

Service - possibly too much! :-) We happened to be seated at the end of the bar and every time a server passed us, they checked on us, tried to collect servingware (some of which was awaiting use) and asked if we needed anything. They were friendly and welcoming, not pushy. Tip: We heard a server describing flights to a nearby table. We had not been told of these. There was a $12 mystery flight with either 3 reds or 3 whites. There was a premium 3 taste red flight at $18. I am using the word taste loosely here as we were advised each taste in the flight is 1/2 glass. Everyone was happy to let us taste any wines that were open. The premium flight included a higher end version of the wine we got by the bottle (Mendoza Malbec) which the proprietress proactively offered us. Judging by that alone, the premium flight would have been worth the price. All wines by the glass were $7 or $15. On to the food and menu: The menu is a nice size and has offerings that would appeal to many palates and appetites. We tried the Crab Remick and the Grazing Board MKT ($20). We were there a year ago when the transition from "Better Days" to the "vine" was still in process. I liked the old menu a little better, but that's a matter of taste. The crab cakes and pasta choices are not on the menu now. (There is mac and cheese) For a scratch kitchen it is strange to me that they don't have any bread. In fact, I question whether they make the crostini. These crostini are small, cracker-sized, and have garlic flavoring. The actual crackers are clearly not made in house (see my photo). I looked at the photo of the French onion soup to see what bread is in there and I could not tell. But here is the thing, coming from Northern CA, having bread, preferably sourdough, to go with your cheese and wine is a key part of the experience for me. I think the Bistro is missing a couple big opportunities here. The first is to offer fresh bread with both the wine tasting menu and the brunch. And the other one is to get SF sourdough starter and use that for a unique and special attraction. Last time we were here, we got the meatball sliders and we really liked those. BTW, they offer tablets that have the menu, including photos, and wines, if you like to access the information that way.
