3/19/19 It is sad for me to say this as I have been a loyal customer for two years. I have spent thousands of dollars at this place and frequent it religiously at least 2-3 days a week. In the last year since they started hiring a lot of new staff, the service and drinks have taken a major hit in quality. :( I have been trying to give the new workers a chance for a while to see if they'd improve, unfortunately, I've just come to realize they do not care about their customers as much as their employees did from a year ago. They no longer greet you when you walk into their business and sometimes, they are too distracted talking to each other (in a Chinese language) to even acknowledge you're standing there in line ready to order. The straw that broke the camel's back for me happened last Saturday. I came in and put in my usual order, "Combo popcorn chicken and jasmine milk tea with boba." The popcorn chicken is still better than the ones in the area, however, they have gotten extremely inconsistent with their spice levels... I used to get spice level #2 but reduced it to level #1 with a side of spice months ago because they can be so inconsistent, and the chicken at level #2 could be so unbearably hot that my stomach cannot deal with it. But popcorn chicken is not what I'm most disappointed about. The person that made my drink DID NOT clean the blender out completely so there was residue from the previous drinks that transferred into the drink they made for me right after. IT WAS ONE OF THE NASTIEST DRINKS I have EVER had in my boba drinking experience. They have really struggled recently with their drinks, especially with balancing between tea, milk, and water--it is often WAY TOO WATERED DOWN! On this occasion, it was iconically disgusting. It tasted like a wet towel with all sorts of flavor residue from improper cleaning of tools, honest to G*d. I threw the whole thing away and thus, have finally made up my mind after that event to not go back. I'm the most loyal customer, hence I stuck around for so long even after being disappointed time and time again, but I refuse to give anymore of my business to a place that is undeserving. This place is great! The drinks and snacks are usually pretty good. My favorites are the genmaicha milk tea with aloe and the fried squid. I've tried other drinks as well, and they have yet to disappoint. They're usually open pretty late too, so it's perfect for a late night boba craving. I would've given them 5 stars, but their customer service is sub-par. After reading some of these reviews from other customers, it seems to be a common issue. Recently, a girl with blue streaks in her hair started working there. She needs some extra training in customer service, or they should just have her making drinks. I've had a problem with her a couple times. Whenever I ask a legitimate question, she just stares with at me with a condescending look, as if I'm really stupid for asking. She typically follows with a snarky response. I understand these are probably high school students just working summer jobs, but the owner should really invest some time into properly training them on how to treat customers. Before coming here I was hoping that Mr. Green Bubble would be my new go-to boba stop (especially after being recommended a few times by friends) so I had to see what all the hype was about. I ordered a classic milk tea while my girlfriend had a taro milk tea and we were both disappointed. First off, my milk tea was watered down--the water to milk ratio is definitely an area that they need to work on. The taro milk tea my girlfriend ordered was powdery and too sweet. This isn't a huge problem because you could always decrease the sugar levels, but still too much sugar for our palate. The environment itself was quite nice, but also dirty. I've been here a few times enough to have a decent opinion now! Never did I think I'd prefer the food more at a bubble tea spot, but it all started with a craving for lu rou fan (braised pork belly over rice) and not being able to find a place near Hayward that sells it. Every drink I've ordered has been pretty watered down and bland despite their customization levels and there's always like 1/4th of their menu scratched out or unavailable. At that point, maybe there needs to be a menu change. I saw a funny review complaining about their logo, and yeah maybe I agree that green doesn't satiate my appetite for milk tea, but besides the point, it's a small chain with 3 locations, but has the same quality of a quicklys in terms of drinks. You get a discounted regular milk tea with a meal purchase, so I opted for that in my recent visit, but my tummy's kind of mad at it despite my tolerance for dairy? Yeah.. I might just not order drinks anymore. In my more recent visits, things like popcorn chicken and curry over rice were scratched out from the menu which was odd because popcorn chicken is still on the snack menu.. not enough to set aside for rice bowls? Now the mochi waffles, that's something I enjoyed! Despite it being $5, there aren't a lot of places to get it at. The pandan extract they use is super fragrant and it smelled really good. I have to be honest, the first time I came here, I thought it was on the same level as Quickly's and TapEx...But after giving it a chance and coming 3 more times, I'm happy to say that if at first you don't succeed, then dust yourself off and try it again and again and again. My default drink is always a Jasmine Milk Tea. After ordering this my first time here and being terribly disappointed I told myself I would never come back since it's literally a waste of money. However, since some establishments started giving you the option of tea strength, I decided to give this spot one more try and ordered the Lychee Milk Tea with more tea than milk and I was pleasantly surprised. I took a sip and that pleasant aromatic lychee taste filled my mouth with the perfect bit of sweetness. Their Peach Oolong Tea is pretty good as well and their honey boba is always cooked perfectly soft with the right amount of chewiness. +1 for their great deal at the bottom of their receipt: "come back within 3 hours of purchasing your drink and get a refill for only $2.50" Not bad for a bobz inhaler like me! It's always good to patronize a place that's spotless. Good to see too that they have separate bins for recyclable materials, trash and compostable matter! Very disappointed with their thai milk tea. It didn't have the thai flavor at all, and it was a bit watered down. The boba was okay, it was not fresh though. It was a bit mushy texture, not the chewy texture that you usually get. However, their popcorn chicken tasted pretty good. It was really crispy, and you actually taste meat, not just batter. I'm truly blessed to have such an affordable and delicious boba place near my apartment. Mr. Green Bubble is the bomb. Can't beat $2.65 (INCLUDING tax) for a 16oz milk tea with boba. If you have a FiveStars account every fifth drink is FREE. Get a popcorn chicken (or another snack) and get another dollar off! The value you get here is absolutely incredible and the quality is great as well. Sure the quality isn't quite as good as the Happy Lemon or Sharetea (now OMG Tea), but you're getting something that's 90% of the way there for basically half the price. For the most part, I enjoy green bubble popcorn chicken. They give a great amount and it is crispy and juicy. I don't think it beats out tapex when it comes to flavor but it's a close second for me. Comparing how the basil is done, tapex makes them where they are lightly fried so it is still chewable and absorbs the flavor of the spices. GB basil is overdone making it too dry so it flakes into tiny pieces. Milk tea here is decent. I would say it's more on the tea side than the creamy side. The boba is well cooked making it nice and chewy. Kinda wish they allowed all drinks to be in the 16oz since some times I don't feel like a large. What I personally don't prefer that they do here is when you order multiple items and they give it to you one at a time based on when it is ready. I like getting all my items together so that 1. I don't need to walk back and forth trying to collect my belongs each time and 2. I don't have to assume the item is mine. I find that most times that I have been here, they don't call out numbers often and would just say "boba milk tea" and if I ordered that, I have a moment where I'm like guessing if it is mine or not especially when other people at waiting for their drinks as well. I think they fry the basil so it's really flaky when you bite into it and doesn't really have flavor. I prefer how Tapioca Express have their basil in their chicken which is on the softer side and still have the basil flavor. I've also tried their calamari and it was disgusting. We come here often but we also frequent the one in Oakland bc 1. It's close to work and 2. We do a lot of ordering from the Oakland location for the whole office. Id say we come here for personal leisure and the Oakland location for work lol. Always clean environment. The workers are so so. I've had a good experience where my drink fell as I was picking it up and they happily made me another one and another instance where they've talked about me regarding my points as if I don't regularly come here and the Oakland location making my points questionable. I myself as well as my work spend a lot of money at green bubble because well, it's decent milk tea and the chicken is good and the location is optimal for our needs. The chicken is no comparison to TapEx chicken, which will always be my favorite, but it comes in second. Level 4 spicy is like a mild to me but I however love spicy food. Not as crunchy but the seasoning is good and not overpowering. The egg puff is a pass. My favorite teas here are the fresh lemon green tea, guava green tea, grapefruit and mango passion fruit all with either 70% to 100% sweetness depending on how I feel (the teas here are a little on the sweeter side for me) and always adding agar boba. The house milk tea is a hit or miss for me both hot and cold versions. They have free wifi which is good and some games you can play. Some days you can find kids from Logan hanging out here and the limited seared can get tight but it's ok. Only cons here I would say is sometimes they "run out" of agar boba 30 min to closing which is a let down and don't have a sign that they close the kitchen early. I heard a lot of great things about Mr.Green Bubble so I decided to try it out. Not going to lie the 10% off for checking in was definitely a plus for me to go as well. Let's be honest who doesn't like to save a bit so they can use that towards a large drink. Anyways, whenever I go to a new boba place I always start with a Milk Tea with boba to see how it tastes. My friend ordered a Carmel Milk Tea and we also got the calamari as well. I was fairly surprised by how good the milk tea was! It was perfect! I am huge on milk teas where I can really taste the tea and this was just the way I like it. The boba consistency was great as well. The thing that I liked the most was the calamari. It was not heavily battered at all. Instead it was lightly bartered and very flavorful. The pieces of Calamari were really thick. So I'm assuming they cut the squid themselves. It's fried with basil which gives it an extra flavor. It's really hot when they give it to you, so make sure to let it cool a bit before eating. I'll give credit where credit is due: on average I like their popcorn chicken more than other places. But I'll also call them out where I feel it's unacceptable, and that's mainly in their ability to produce food in a timely manner and addressing customer concerns. I made an online order, it says it'll be ready in 15. I arrive at the designated time only to be left in the dark as to when it'll be ready and forced to wait for a total of 45 minutes. 15 minutes is a considerably long time for fast food. 30 minutes would be a considerable time to get food out at a proper sit down restaurant. Considering that my order was only a single instance of milk tea and popcorn chicken, the 45 minute wait is ridiculous. Got thai tea with boba. good taste and boba is good. very quick service. ordered on the kiosk and the drink was made right away. very clean.

Tbh I'm not sure why the rating for this place is below 4 stars, I think they deserve at least that many but anyways, to my review. I've been going to Mr.Green Bubble ever since they opened a couple years ago, so basically way before they had the add on area and the gigantic chalkboard menu. I absolutely love their boba. Like just the boba itself. It's so fresh. I remember when they first opened and I mentioned this place to my students, I was surprised to know they had already been here and they had the same to say about their boba too. I think of all the boba places I've been to in the bay, this place has the freshest boba. Their tea or milk tea is good also and can almost rival TenRen. (Almost! Nothing beats TenRen for me though). For their snacks, my go to's are French fries and tofu. I've tried their chicken and it's good also but I would choose tofu over chicken anytime. There's something about the way they season their French fries and tofu that I like a lot. Anyways, try not to judge this place by the stars. It's really an awesome little place. Oh, I would say though to not go when the nearby high school finishes school though! It's pretty packed and it would make me late to class though. They get pretty backed up with orders around the time the high school finishes school. read more
