I've been sleeping on Tocotea and now I can't believe I haven't tried this spot sooner, especially since boba options are limited in Union City and Hayward! My husband and I stopped by after dinner on a Friday evening and it was not too busy. I ordered the guava green tea with less sweetness and less ice, and he ordered the mango passion fruit oolong tea with half sweetness and half ice. Both drinks were really good and satisfied our cravings. We will definitely be back to try other items! They have a pretty large selection of teas and they even offer sugarcane juice. They also have lots of tables but it was a bit stuffy inside so I probably wouldn't hang out here on a warm day. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, place was empty. I didn't even know if an employee was around until he crept out from the back. Ordering actually done at the register, not via kiosk. I had perused the menu ahead of time (as I always do), but sadly, what I wanted ( Three Heroes) but did not see it on the menu posted at the register. I chose the Thai Green Milk Tea ... also not offered anymore so I went with an oolong milk tea, no sugar, 25% ice (my standard ice/sugar selections), with boba, add grass jelly. The boba was good, well cooked. The tea itself didn't have much flavor and the drink seemed watered down. Maybe it just needed more mixing. The cups are the fancy kind with a real plastic lid, not sealed plastic. I like the sealed plastic cuz it allows you to shake the drink, and it's probably cheaper too. This was a convenient stop for my boba craving but then we also hit up the Krispy Kreme and Jollibee for some sweets (both are right across the way in the same plaza). read more

A pretty great boba spot in Union City! Ordered their Mango Green Tea with boba. It came with fruit bits. Service was quick. I've been here several times, but just realized I hadn't left a review. The other day my niece picked me up a Thai Milk tea with boba and it seemed like the best boba ever (outside of this one restaurant in Morgan Hil. I was so delighted she thought of me. Fast forward a few days and I decided to grab one for myself. Not as good, but bo complaints. I also ordered the pandan waffle, but it took a LONG time to get. There were only a couple of patrons and they already had their items, so I was the only one being serviced. I do also wish it came with some sweetened condensed me or a little cup of something to poor over it. But most places don't do that so, there's no "ding" for that. It was good and each bite had the crunch of coconut. Another positive about Tocotea is that it opens at 11am whereas most Boba places don't open until 12. They have chalked/painted Boba Cups on the wall. Here's What I Think... The next time I come back, I'll get my Thai Tea, but maybe I'll try the strawberry or Taro waffle. read more

So so so yummy.. me and my boyfriend ordered the matcha coconut with lychee jelly and Thai creme brulee with boba. The thai tea was literally one of the BEST thai tea I have ever had if not the best. The flavor was so rich I swear I finished the drink in 2 minutes because of how tasty it was. The creme brulee was a little chunky when I had it and tasted more lile a regular cream(?). I felt that there wasn't enough of it to be called a creme brulee drink but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The boba was so soft and chewy. It had the perfect consistency. It's just regular tapioca balls so no sugar was added (not to my knowledge/taste) and no additional syrups but because it was made so well the bland flavor meant almost nothing. I got plenty of pearls in my drink as well, they definitely didn't skimp out on it!!! My boyfriends drink from first glance, we thought it was going to be some kind of coconut milk tea or thick coconut-y drink but when the barista handed it to us it was actually coconut juice!!!! It tasted so delicious... the matcha itself is more of a thicker consistency, my boyfriend likes more matcha taste/bitterness to it. It could have used more matcha or a stronger matcha base since the flavor of the coconut juice really overpowered the matcha. It's my first time seeing a boba place use coconut juice in a drink so it was a very pleasant surprise The lychee jelly was also really really good, it had that nice tense outside chew. Just a quick update as we recently dropped by TOCOTEA again after a long hiatus. We recently dropped by as we needed boba after a morning of errands. There was a couple of folks just hanging out and it was only us ordering at the time. Plenty of seating on the side and a bright. One person was working which made sense as it's a Monday. Easily ordered and paid for our drinks. I only noticed afterwards that there was a "large" size but didn't see how much it would be to upgrade. I guess I wasn't paying too much attention to what was on the menu. But I think, I did see that they printed some menus near the ordering area so you don't have to stare at the menus on the screen. We got our orders in a timely manner and was on our way. The drinks were good. I don't think I had anything wrong with my drink. I also haven't been ordering drinks with boba these days because it's hard for me to chew...that's a different story. Overall, not a bad option for boba. I think we just don't go in this area a lot so it's not one of our go-to spots. Also sometimes parking can be a bit crazy because it's near Krispy Kreme, Jollibee and the grocery store. We went to this place and ordered a oolong tea, but when we got it back it was the wrong order. We sat down at the tables and proceed to see the worker rinsing the boba from the wrong order underneath the tap water using a strainer to clean it for some reason. This is very disgusting and when we proceed to ask her why she did that she showed us the pot and said she had no more boba left. It is fine if there was no more boba but she did not need to rinse it underneath the tap water and act like everything was fine. This is very unsanitary and I believe this is disgusting. read more

Was in the area for dinner, so stopped in. Asked for lemon cheesecake...out of lemon. Asked for red velvet instead...also out. Third time wasn't a charm, because also out of tiramisu. Settled on a taro cheesecake for myself, husband and our daughter and our oldest got the strawberry milk tea. First sip, cheecake top was delicious...but, the taro had no flavor. It was very bland and I love taro drinks. The tapioca pearls were way too chewy, that they were hard to chew at all. They should have some bite to them and this was like too jelly. Tocotea is in the Union Landing plaza. This area gets pretty busy on weekends and weeknights, but there is plenty of parking in this part of the plaza. The hours has changed earlier last year because they used to close pretty late like 10 PM/11 PM (depending on the day), but now they close either 9 PM or 10 PM now (depending on the day). Sometimes, they are closed before the stated times, even when I call ahead to confirm. I called one night at 9:30 PM to ask them if they were closing at 10 PM and they confirmed that they were, and when I arrived in 15 minutes around 9:45 PM, they were already closed for cleaning - I would had appreciated it, if they had told me on the phone that they would close early for cleaning, so I did not have to waste my gas and time to come down here for no reason. Service could had been a bit better, as the employees are not always the most friendly/professional, and sometimes the wait for 1 drink is long, as they were not well prepared with having their supplies ready (such as looking for cups or lids right after I order, which prolongs the wait for my drink). My go to drink here is their Jasmine Milk Tea with boba, but I was debating if I should get their Cream Cheese Green Tea - I ended up not getting it because I did not remember whether I liked it or not. On my last visit, I came here out of convenience and my Jasmine Milk Tea was eh - they forgot to put sugar/sweetness, so my drink did not tasted right. Been wanting to go to the SJ toco tea for the longest time to get the drinks in the soda can. I was so excited to see one open much closer to home! When ordering for the drinks, make sure you specify that you want it in the soda can or they will default to the regular cups. Matcha monster - boba was drenched in brown sugar and was all over the outside of the cup. It made the drink really sweet and felt like a dessert instead. It also overpowered the matcha flavor. Peach & passion green tea - nothing too special. Strong green tea flavor. The soda can is a cool gimmick but kind of inconvenient when you're left with all the toppings on the bottom. Customer service was great! It was a quick transaction and I got my drink within 5-10 minutes. This was a fairly busy early Sunday afternoon. They have a lovely wing mural upon entrance with a great lounging space! The space feels newer and clean. Bathrooms were also clean and there is plenty of parking (just beware of those seagulls!) I ordered a brown sugar boba, sub oat milk. I think I know better than to order full sweetness so that was my bad, but it was overkill on the sweetness. 4 words: Red Velvet Milk Tea! Plus add Crystal noodles. I'm a fan of Toco because of this creamy red drink automatically topped with cream cheese. Tastes sweet and chocolatey with that infamous southern zing. The employee I interacted with said sugar levels can be customized in increments of 25%, even with red velvet! The same cannot be said for the now closed Santa Clara location. I thought I was getting 50% there but it was actually 100% due to some technical issues on DoorDash. 25% sugar is sweet enough here because of the cream cheese & toppings. First time I visited, they used regular plastic cups. I DoorDashed the second time and was pleasantly surprised they used the plastic can sealed like a soda! Cool way to drink boba. Straw fits well. One issue that comes to mind is possible mistakes when making the drink and having to remake/adjust it. Is it easy for employees to completely pop the top off? On my first visit, they put Crystal boba instead of Crystal noodle but I decided not to say anything because I was already in the car. They got it right the second time. Crystal noodles are like regular boba but in a longer, chewy & clear form. Seems like they cut them into 1.5 inch pieces though so it's easier to sip them through a straw. The only other place I've had this topping is at TP Tea. Drinks can get pretty expensive, starting at about $5.75 + 65 cent toppings. Some drinks already have toppings, like the Black Diamond Okinawa with diced coffee jelly. Watch out for the sugar level on that one. 100% is seriously like liquid crack-- so good but so bad. Nice boba murals and modern vibe inside. Limited indoor & outdoor seating. I'll be back for the velvet. read more

I have been seeing Tocotea every time I drive by on my way home from work. Hubby and I didn't know what we really wanted to do, but I decided to go walk around Union City and grab something to drink. I suggested Tocotea as we wanted to try new places. I love how you can ask them to put your drink in a plastic can that looks like a soda can. It's super cute! I got the Royal Lemon Black Tea and Hubby got the Mango Green Tea. I love that they have Pandan waffles! I didn't get a chance to get one because we had pancakes earlier for breakfast. The drinks are amazing! I'm so excited to come back to try other drinks on their menu and to grab a Pandan waffle! I love the mural on the walls of the place and the staff was super kind to us. Tocotea has been a very convenient boba spot for me thats really close to my place. Other boba places are like 15 mins away but tocotea isnt too busy from the times ive gone I got help by a dude named Nam and he was very chill, helpful, and friendly and got my order completed really quickly. If something was wrong with my order he double checked and then fixed it for me with no issues. The food and drinks is very affordable with the size given to you and the cheese coin is a very comforting snack to have. I was craving some boba before playoffs and what better way to start it with a bomb ass cream cheese black tea drink!!! The boba was cooked to perfection with no exaggeration just FACTS! The pandas waffles had coconut shavings in them I'm not a big fan of it but if you don't mind that, their pandas waffles are for you! First review for Toco Tea! Last week I saw their banner for their grand opening, so I was curious and stopped by for 50% off all drinks. Ordered the Toco Tea House special (comes with pearls, red bean, and jelly noodle). 25% ice and sweetness. Service bit slow but I get it's their first day. I waited about 10 min and then noticed the person in front and after me both got their drinks. I asked the staff and looks like my order was lost in shuffle (my mistake for not asking for the receipt because I didn't know what was my order number). The guy immediately made it, so I appreciate the quick fix. Even at 25% sugar, seems sweet. Boba was soft and good texture. If it weren't for 50% off, prices a little high ($5.75 and up), like Boba Guys price but not the same quality (or I'm hard to impress since there's abundant boba shops in the Bay Areas). 3.5 stars, rounded up. read more

Luckily the rain stopped for the day, so I was able to go without getting soaked. Also, I arrived at a perfect time when there was no line. I got to the counter and placed my order. The drinks were 50% off. Soon a line formed behind me. The wait was short, and my drinks were ready. They offer indoor seating, but all of the seats were taken. The drinks were refreshing and tasty. 3/5 - Staff wasn't too friendly and were focused on taking the order and giving out the drinks, but even with the focus to the work, I was missing 2 drinks despite her reciting it correctly to me and I verified that it was correct on the tablet, so I don't know how this happened. She wasn't apologetic or anything afterwards either. I guess with this interaction, it didn't really make the place welcoming, though the interior was cute. However, if I'm just speaking solely on the drink itself, I would rate it a 4/5. I've never been to a place that had Kiwi AND Passion Fruit Green Tea as an option, so I was so happy this place had it. It was extra tart, I loved it. I ordered the Jasmine Brown Sugar Milk Tea with Boba and got hooked. It was refreshing and had the perfect balance of milk and tea. It was not overly sweet which brown sugar tend to do.
