Years ago Mr. G'S was the best place in town to get a chesse steak sub. But now this place has gone downhill the Sub I ordered last night tasted like crap. It has been said that Mr G's has been a Catonsville staple for 60 years. Not sure if that is how long it's been, but older folk always speak about their cheesesteaks from "back in the day". I am a huge cheesesteak fan, who isn't? When you get one, you expect it to be meaty, cheesy and full of flavor. Well on all accounts, Mr G's hits the mark. It's packed with meat but not sloppy. You can taste the seasonings and condiments that are put on your sub. The chicken wings are pretty good too. My sons and wife really enjoy them and always ask to have them with the western fries. The location is actually pretty good. Located on rt 40 gives them an advantage over many carry outs as this is a main thoroughfare and provides them with plenty of foot traffic. There is plenty of parking but lighting is not that great. Don't expect much from the decor on the inside, this is where they are lacking. I mean, I don't expect much from any carry out anyway so this bothers me none. If you're ever in Catonsville and looking for a cheesesteak, give Mr G's a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

We ordered through door dash tonight and I had a little bit of a picky order. I let them know we were staying at the hospital just so they knew why I was asking them to package it extra well with everything going on and were in postpartum but I didn't tell them why we were there of course. Nope. Won't be coming back. I used to come here all the time as a little girl for ice cream. It appears that it's under new ownership and the walk up window is gone and it's now a restaurant. A dirty, poorly maintained restaurant. I know how to zshush on a dime and make things look magazine perfect. There is NO excuse for hot this place looks. For two thousand the inside can look like perfection and it looks gross & run down. I need the entire place to be bleached and someone to get on their hands and knees with a toothbrush. "I want this place to shine like the top of the Chrysler building" **in my Miss Hannegan voice** So, I got two chicken wings. They were huge in size (clearly not hormone free) and the seasoning in the breading was subpar. The hot sauce AND the ketchup in the squirt bottles were both watered down. They are stingy on napkins. My intent was to get a snowball. I got one. She skimped on the juice. So, all I got was snow. I'll just stick to where I normally go for my snowballs. Also, there is a $1 charge to use a debit or credit card. TF! All in all, I won't be coming back. This place is honestly my go-to spot for delivery when I go to my friends house in the area. We always order the cheeseburger and western fries. I have yet to find a better tasting burger! The fries are seasoned well, the burgers is juicy and cheesy, and they even gave me a free half & half one night because I was thirsty and forgot to put it on my order. Mr. G's has been a Catonsville fixture since I was a child, but it's under new management so I figured we could give them a try. The owners are Middle Eastern, I think -- kebabs, etc. are now on the menu in addition to the standard cheesesteaks, fries and ice cream. We ordered at the counter and waited; the inside is divey, but not overly scary, and four huge flat-screens provide entertainment with misspelled items ("han sandwich" was a favorite) and disproportionately squatty photos of soda cans. They cycle through at a dizzying rate, making it something of a challenge to read your item before it disappears into a photo of Ray Lewis. A sullen cook came out with a bag and mumbled, "two cheesesteaks" over the straw that dangled from his mouth (or maybe it was a giant lollipop stick, but we didn't stay to find out.) We took the bag, thanked him and drove home. Then we opened the bag and discovered they were not our sandwiches. A bag of fries, which we hadn't ordered (and which were undercooked, as others have complained) confirmed our suspicions. So, back to the shop, which luckily isn't far for us. The woman apologized and cheerfully ordered new sandwiches. After all that, they were decent, not great -- the bread is always the problem with non-Philly cheesesteaks. Cheesesteaks were terrible, not sure how you mess up sweet tea, but they did. The french fries were OK, but the large flying bugs coming in the open door did not add any flavor when they landed on our food. My order was wrong and they overcharged us and yes, $1 surcharge if you use a credit or debit card. Our first choice was Chik-Fil-A up the street - should have stuck with that... I like Mr. G's and often go here for chicken, potato wedges, and ice cream. However, I like the old Mr. G's much better (before the fire). The old Mr. G's truly gave you "overstuffed" subs. You truly got a bang for your buck. The New Mr. G's not so much. I got one sub from there but soon discovered it was not overstuffed at all. Even the ice cream is not as much as you used to get before it burned down. The service is okay. The staff is friendly. I do think that they have some of the best fried chicken around. Best Funnel Cake in town!!! I went in for lunch with my wife. She ordered a burger and fries, I ordered a Philly with a side of onion rings. After 5 minutes we really noticed how loud the place is, between the kid streaming movies on his laptop and the TV on maximum volume. 15 minutes pass we talk about how run down the place and after a quick internet search we came to the conclusion we should have gone somewhere else, but our money was paid, so we waited. 25 minutes go by, went up to the counter but the lady was in the back! While at the counter I noticed a jug of milk sitting on the ice cream machine. It was cold outside so that is probably an ok storage place. 35 minutes go by...finally our food arrives. My wife's had asked for no cheese on her burger, but they forgot and then scraped it off. Considering the price one would expect a good size patty...nope there is more meat in a McDonalds hamburger patty. The fries were ok. My Philly was edible, but the onion rings were HUGH! Mr. G's has been a Rt 40 institution for something like 50 years. For the last 30 or so it has been Mr. G's in name only. The food has been crappy and gross. I've lived about a mile away for 25 years and I've only been there (outside of ice cream) three or four times. The last time was about a year ago for fried chicken and I noticed that they were under new (apparently Arab or Russian) management. The place was cleaned up and nice since the old building burned down around 2006. Tonight I went for fried chicken again and it was awesome again. The trick is to order it fresh and pick it up still smoking hot. The french fries were also just right. Very tasty. The only problem I had was the phone service. The person answering the phone was either half-deaf, didn't speak English or both. We wanted one order of chicken and were told that the smallest order was 8 pieces. Seems odd. We ordered it anyway and when we picked it up it was two separate orders of 4 pieces. I'll eat the rest tomorrow or something but if you have a carry-out, pay someone American minimum wage to answer the phone. I have to wonder how many orders they lose because the person calling in gets frustrated and hangs up. I ordered food and had to cancel 18 minutes later because my car wouldn't start and one minute later i got a very LOUD very ANGRY phone call from a female manager with a thick accent telling me to never call again and that my number and name had been recorded to never let me order food from there again and that she didn't care about my car, i wasn't picking up my food and for that i can never call them again and she was just so disgustingly rude. I've ordered food from there at least a dozen times and the girl at the counter is always nice but whoever this manager was that called me to let me have a piece of her mind while i was already crying in the freezing car with no way to eat, she can go forever. I live near here and come quite a bit. The owners are friendly and work hard to make you happy. I have sampled the hamburgers (their biggest selling item), french fries, and an assortment of desserts. Their burgers are quite good, enough so that I usually stop here instead of Five Guys. The snow cones here are amazing! They have approximately 40 different syrup flavors, and they don't skimp on the syrup. Even the kiddie size is huge. It's usually best to call ahead and take your order to go. Admittedly, the inside isn't all that appealing, but they have been slowly upgrading the appearance. Overall, Mr. G's gives you some delicious comfort foods with generous portion sizes. That's why I will continue to return here. read more

Well Mr.G's use to be Great. Onion rings are OK have not had them in a while so that's questionable to service is awful. they don't follow directions and the phone service is terrible. The subs are OK if they get it right and the fries are RAW ! not even brown, you know they put them in for a minute or two No matter how many times, ya yell or tell them to brown them, there not cooked.
