The staff was friendly. However, the bagel had very little flavor. The ingredients were distributed unequally. I asked for the bagel toasted and it was lowk just like warm, not crispy at all. So the place was nice inside, the menu was excellent. But the guy taking my order did not listen to me. I ordered a jalapeño bagel with scrambled egg and veggie cream cheese. What I got was an egg bagel with veggie cream cheese. So I went back up and ask for it to be corrected. He literally turned around and gave the wrong order. So the supervisor had to step in. My husband always raves about this place because he grew up in this area. This was my second time going here & I will say it is DELICIOUS! The first time I just got an Asiago bagel with plain cream cheese, which was good. This time I got the popeye turkey on an Asiago bagel. It was SO SO GOOD! I wanted to get another one after I finished it, it was just way too good. My husband got the chicken charlie with no bacon on an egg bagel and it was also super good. Good place for your obligatory bagel and coffee breakfast in the morning! They have 3 locations in "the valley"! Walking in you're surround by cozy nooks to enjoy your warm meal and coffee. This place seems to have loyal followers. The cashier was thrilled when she heard we were new to the shop. Be prepared for bagel options GALORE. I thought the bagel visual board was unique and super useful! Unfortunately, our order was a little messed up- which was more of an inconvenience to my boyfriend. They corrected themselves, gave us a refund, and complementary bagel bites (French toast and cinnamon raisin bagel holes with icing on top and and some festive sprinkles- customer beside us in line said those were awesome...I however thought they were too sweet so I couldn't agree) with a take home menu urging us to come back! For this reason I would definitely commend the staff for being so polite and accommodating. I have never been so pleased with service (especially when I'm hangry). Hot coffee was nice and strong. My iced caramel coffee was DANGEROUSLY sweet...I had to go up and ask for half of it to be replaced with regular iced coffee to make it drinkable. So keep that in mind when ordering. We ordered the lox and cream on an everything egg bagel- cream cheese was plentiful and the lox were tasty. I missed the capers and onions but they don't have that here. Steak, egg and pepper jack cheese on an onion bagel- small amount of steak but had a pleasant spice to it. I was missing something to tie it all together though. A little ketchup and hot sauce worked. Overall, the bagels themselves tasted very well prepared. I would come back for sure to try some of their homemade schmears and toasted bagels. The pasta salad side was AWESOME. Good breakfast spot but possibly an even better lunch spot?? Everything is very self serve in regard to utensils and coffee mix ins. It's very clean! this bagel shoppe has some of the best flavors to chose from.....i love the seasosnal cream cheese spreads and my stand by cinnamon cream cheese. i also love seeing the same people behind the counter waiting on me. its like walking into a friends home....i can always expect to see clean tables and smiling, friendly faces. read more

SKIP Dunkin' and go to Mr. J's Bagels! This is a great family owned place with affordable prices. The bagels, sandwiches, coffee and iced tea are all FANTASTIC. The bagels are especially good because they are fresh and have the toppings (garlic, everything, sesame, etc) on both the top and the bottom of the bagel (not just the top like most places). The atmosphere is nice, plenty of parking available, and the staff is usually on point, even at their busiest times. read more

In the past, any local would've told you this spot was a hidden gem, although now it's just some luke warm lunch meat slapped on a soggy bagel. It's honestly upsetting. Ehhhh, so so experience here. Came highly recommended by some locals. Bacon, egg, and cheese bagel was good. Nice variety of quality bagels, which is hard to find these days. I ordered a mocha latte with a shot of vanilla. I think I ended up with a hot chocolate that was rung up as a smoothie. Hmmm. I've only ever eaten at Mr. J's in the mornings. I've frequented the place quite a lot in the past couple of years because they are on my way to work each day. That being said, I can order "my usual" and everyone there knows what that is. (He-he) The staff is usually very friendly, and the place is usually clean. You'll usually find Joey, one of the co-owners of Mr. J's, in the kitchen; playing his part as cook. I do have one complaint however. On the days when Joey is not there, the service usually suffers. Things just don't seem to run as smoothly as they do when he's there. That being said, the service has never been so horrible that I would be concerned to recommend the place. There is a rather large variety of bagels as well as other pastry items. Everything from bagel bites to muffins and cookies can be viewed at the counter. The restaurant is a fairly good size so it's friendly for small groups. If you're looking for a good bagel, this is probably your best bet in the valley. read more

I used to love this place, as a student at JMU I've spent many Saturday and Sunday mornings here. The bagels are good and the selection is huge, which is what I like most. I can get a barbeque chicken bagel or a pizza bagel or just a bagel with cream cheese. However, the quality has definitely dropped over the years. It seems like they know they will get the business so they just don't care as much. Food can take forever to be made, many time the warm food comes out with a cold center, undercooked eggs and such. There are just so many little things that have added up for me that I just don't go as often anymore. Harrisonburg VA for Bagels? Surprisingly yes, these are very good, particularly for someone raised on NY Metro bagel quality. These are not NY, but surprisingly good, and easily the best I have had in VA. It also offers many surprising flavors - our house favorite is the French toast bagel - a tasty sweet treat. I have only been here for take out, and offer no opinion on the eat in, or sandwiches. But when I am here visiting my daughter in JMU, I make it a point to stop by and bring some home. read more

My husband and I excitedly went to Mr. Js Bagel and Deli for breakfast yesterday. We ordered the breakfast at about $7 each which included 2 eggs, homefries, and taylor ham (yum). The taylor hame was good, the eggs were runny (over easy instead of over medium) and the homefries were spicey (unexpected). The counter service was great although upon pick-up by us, they called out the order in lieu of a number that was on our receipt - go figure! We also ordered 2 bagels both of which came out dry without butter (no option was provided and we just assumed) so my husband went back for butter and was charge 95 cents. He was shocked but didn't want to eat the bagel dry. The bagels were outstanding but we could have done without the rest of the meal. We will go back because the bagels were fab but not for breakfast. read more
