Just what a deli should be. Consistently friendly and attentive staff. There's no better sloppy joe (the Jersey kind ) around. Layers upon layers of deliciousness somehow perfectly balanced. And their breakfast sandwiches...just yes! I hate when a roll is too hard, and theirs is always the right amount of soft. Yay for Mr. J's!

We come here often to pick up a platter of Sloppy Joe's for family events or as gifts for organizations. They always do a great job and they are very friendly on the phone when I place my order. I like that there's a lot of different sizes of sandwich platters you can get. You can also pick and choose the different types of meats that you want. They package it in a neat plastic circular platter to make it easy for transport as well. Parking is the only issue here as there is only on street parking and not always a spot directly in front of their place. I just have to park on the street near the train station, although you can park in the train station after hours and on weekends.

I'm a third-generation Cranford resident, and my grandparents considered it a crying shame that I had yet to try Mr. J's! Luckily that changed tonight. I went for the Turkey Joe -- two sandwich layers split between three slices of bread with Russian dressing, mild turkey (perfectly aligned with my preference because I get a little put off when the turkey flavor is too strong), and what I believed to be coleslaw. It was an absolutely A1 sandwich. Huge, too. Would've been enough for two. The only thing that could've made it better would be if the bread had been toasted. The bread as it was became a bit soggy from the dressing. Next time I eat here, and there will be a next time, I plan to ask for it toasted specifically. Only other hiccup was that they got my grandmother's sandwich wrong -- they gave her corned beef instead of pastrami. We would've called to have it replaced, but they were closed already. Mr. J's is also conveniently located just around the corner from the train station. I imagine it's super ideal for commuters. I definitely plan to return soon! Hopefully for breakfast next time, since that looked yummy.

In my quest of supporting local businesses I decided to give Mr J's Deli a try. I drive by this location daily so I figured it was time. I just wanted a quick sandwich before a road trip and they are widely renowned for their triple decker sloppy joes. I selected the Lenny Kid sandwich which was piled high with Taylor ham, a Northern Jersey staple. I didn't get a photo because I dove into the sandwich as I was starving lol! Absolutely delicious and quite filling sandwich! My wife some and I still had a portion of it for the next day! Awesome value!! I got their crab soup to go with it which was very tasty as well... It's a small deli with friendly service, clean decor and great food! I most certainly will be back to try more menu options....

Maybe it's because I grew up in Brooklyn and spent a lot of time at local diners and "mom and pop" type restaurants, but whenever I see such establishments, I always get curious. Having visited Cranford often, I had passed Mr. J's Deli several times, but I always came during hours it was closed. Then, this past weekend I finally got the chance to check it out when it was open! True to its name, Mr. J's has a long counter on the left when you walk in. The seating area can easily accommodate over twenty people and scattered throughout are fridges of drinks and snacks you'd expect from a deli. Looking behind the counter, I saw some nice looking muffins (red velvet for one) and loaves of *huge* rye bread. It was breakfast time, so I ordered two eggs sunny side up. This comes with a side of home fries and toast, made from the aforementioned big loaves of bread! My girlfriend ordered the "Turkey Sloppy Joe", really a Reuben style sandwich complete with coleslaw, russian dressing and a stack of turkey (not quite Katz's, but very satisfying). I have to say that everything was cooked and prepared perfectly. My eggs were runny in just the right way, the home fries had a really nice crispy layer with soft potato underneath and the toast was wonderfully chewy but had a crisp, toasted outer layer. The service at Mr. J's was friendly and you were made to feel like you belong. While I was there, I observed that many of the customers who came in to order food were regulars who knew the staff on a first name basis. That really felt nice to see this from both a customer service and neighborly perspective. I've already decided to go back to Mr. J's soon. Why? Four words: Corned Beef Sloppy Joe!

Stopped into Mr. J's this Election Day morning and they had exactly what I'd been craving: a croissant with egg and cheese and turkey bacon to boot! I took a look at their specials and saw cream of butternut squash soup - another crave-worthy option. No one else in my family likes it, so I ordered myself some. (No point in a big batch just for me!) It did not disappoint! The soup was creamy and indulgent. Another great experience with Mr. J's! If you're looking for a sloppy joe or turkey club - I also highly recommend theirs!

Yummy sandwiches that are huge and not too expensive. You can eat in or take out, and you will certainly leave full!

Excellent sandwiches, very nice people who own the place have been in Business for years. The Dagwood is my favorite.

Great subs! Bread is fresh and you'll always get a good sub here. I almost always go for an Italian combo.
