My husband and I gave Mr. Kimchi a try on a whim tonight because I felt like bulgogi. However, I ended up having bibimbap and Tteokbokki, and let me tell you: it was amazing! The flavors were rich, the food came out hot, the banchan was delicious. In addition to flavorful food and generous portions, the service was top notch. We basically had two servers taking care of us the whole time, and they didn't bat an eye at my food allergy when I asked. The decor and atmosphere are inviting and elegant. Overall, it was a great experience, and my husband and I will be back. It also turned out it was the last day of their grand opening, so we got to spin the wheel for a prize for spending a certain amount and we got these really cool ball caps. read more

(3/5) I almost didn't try Mr. Kimchi because I'm pretty particular about Korean food. While I'm not Korean myself, I've been around Korean culture and cuisine for most of my life. My partner of 12 years is Korean, and before that I was engaged to a Korean woman whose mother--who lived through the Korean War--made fresh Korean food for me regularly. I also grew up near Oklahoma City's Korean business district and have eaten at many Korean restaurants over the years. With that said, I don't think Mr. Kimchi is trying to be a traditional Korean restaurant, and there's nothing wrong with that. The food is still enjoyable, just different from what I'd expect from a more traditional Korean restaurant. I ordered the stone pot bibimbap. The service was quick, and I was in and out in about 35 minutes. The meal definitely satisfied my craving. One thing that bothered me was the pricing. The menu listed the dish at $15.99, but I was charged an additional dollar because it was served in the stone pot. If that's the case, I think the menu should make that clearer. All of the photos show the dish being served in the stone pot, so I naturally assumed that was included in the advertised price. It isn't a huge amount of money, but unexpected charges never leave a great impression. A few pieces of constructive criticism: * The rice could be stickier and have a better texture for bibimbap. * I'd remove the corn. Every bite that included corn was the least enjoyable part of the dish for me. * The kimchi tasted more like kimchi intended for stew because it was already quite sour. For bibimbap, I'd prefer a fresher, less sour kimchi. * The bulgogi could be slightly sweeter, which is the flavor profile I personally enjoy. Will I come back? Yes, especially because it's convenient and close to my side of town. I'd be interested in trying other items on the menu. However, if I'm specifically craving bibimbap prepared the way I'm used to, I'd probably make the drive to Del City. Overall, Mr. Kimchi has fast service, decent food, and satisfied my craving, but the surprise upcharge and a few issues with the dish kept it at 3 stars instead of 4. read more

They have another restaurant and this one is completely different but the theme is the same overall and that is great flavor! The interior is very nice. The portions are perfect in my opinion and there's plenty of flavor. Pricing here is really fair and although they weren't open yet our service was perfect. Located in the old spot of Wagyu Japanese. The two of us tried the army stew but was not able to finish it. I like that they served the banchan before the entree was out. But I wish they served the rice when the food is served because by the time our stew was ready to eat, our rice was no longer warm. I like what Mr. Kimchi did to the restaurant. I have been here almost every week to try a new item each time. Trying it again today with my favorite sister. I like to try a place a few times before posting a review. 1. Spicy Beef Soup: consistently made, had this 4 times: I like the cut of beef they use, good portion/ ratio of beef, onions and clear noodles, sometimes a bit to much onions for me but it is good for flavor maybe too much too eat. It is not too spicy, tip is to stir the bowl once and a while because the hot stuff seem to be on top and it gets less spicy ( and the spicy is way less than the Chinese Sezschuan spice which is too spicy for me). Another good thing about the soup dishes is it is a clay pot, keeping the soup steaming hot ( so my food does not get cold before I finish it, I am a slow diner and like to taste and enjoy my food) 2. Beef Bone soup: 2 times: great beef flavor with clear noodles, comes with dipping sauce for beef and it also goes with the soup, 3. Seafood pancake : had it 2 times: crispy (not burnt, not mushy), 3rd time still good but the batter on top just a little, we wish the portion was larger 4. Japchae : tried 2 times: The sweet potato, thicker, clear noodle with good mix of mushrooms, spinach, carrots, etc however, it is meatless. $3 to add beef to add a bit of thin beef, which is maybe more traditional ? Maybe ask a Korean friend 5. 1st time to try: Black Bean Noodles: It seems like every Korean movie has this dish when they dine so we had to try it and I think there is different versions of this dish? Very presentable, noodles soft but not mushy, it is not Al Dente but still holds its shape and doesn't break), Black bean sauce with small bites of pork belly gives it a good flavor, (not too "beany" and not "porky" ), take a bite with the thinly slice cucumbers or daikon goes well together, the crispy potatoes is a nice break from the soft noodles. their sauce is a thin sauce giving a generous, even coat to all the noodles 6. Curry Chicken Katsu: tried it once: Not sure if this is Korean version of the Japanese curry. So it is similar but not the same. Chicken is crispy on outside, soft on inside, just right to dip into curry sauce, it is a very mild curry, I prefer a stronger and I would order it again to change things up. 7. Sizzling Squid: 1 Time: came out sizzling, we liked the flavor, would like a little better ratio of squid to onions, carrots and zucchini, I think they are there for flavor because they are really too small to eat, tge star of the dish is the Squid which is cook right ( Not chewy or tough when you have to try to chew forever or cannot even cut into pieces ) The side dishes are the same 4 each time, it does not change. 1. Corn and potato mash 2. Pickled crunchy Cucumber 3. Pickles Carrot and root 4. Kimchi is mild spicy. Each typical, I like the crunch of the pickles items that is important, they gave me soft cucumber only once because said their order came in wrong. We always try to find places for mom too. She is diabetic. She can have the Beef bone soup and the seafood pancake, because no sugar is added in it and the Clear noodle is from sweet potatoes or tapioca so it helps not spike her sugar like potatoes, rice, and noodles but needs to be verified again from chief. Service for dinner today is great, two great smiley and happy servers, attentive, helped us with all our questions etc. Today was the last day of their spin the game for fun and when discounts etc for the next visit. Lunch service person is quiet, not as welcoming, straight forward, not helpful with introducing or explaining dishes but if you ask him for anything he is happy to get it for you. Maybe he is just a serious person or just not talkative. He does check on you. It would be nice if they provided better and more napkins. I like their dishes especially glass for water (fyi water, ice, lemon is really clean and refreshing here) exception except for the plastic soup spoons, just use the regular Korean style spoon is fine. If the cook is a Korean their mom would be ashamed. There's no excuse for not being able to make a decent Korean dish here. They have all the ingredients they just don't know how to cook a Korean menu or they don't care. At least go on YouTube and attempt to research what authentic Korean cuisine should be. I had high hopes but was seriously disappointed. I can't cook Korean as good as my wife. But can certainly do a better job than they do. Sad. Just sad because there's so much potential there. I am Korean. This Korean food was awful. The corn cheese was extremely sweet, the tteokbokki tasted worse than an Indian Oh-K Dog, the jjajangmyun would taste better made with any instant package, the army stew was as if army members were forced to forage an encampment and come up with something edible. I stopped in at Mr Kimchi during their soft opening. The interior is nice but clearly still a work in process. My server was incredibly kind and helped me select something to eat, as it was my first time having Korean food. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken bibimbap, which came in a timely manner and was delicious! The banchan (side dishes) were delivered while I waited for my entree. My only complaint is that my hot oolong tea was served in a cold drink glass, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they are working on that, since it is still their soft opening. read more

I disliked Cheese Wonton because it was too sweet. Black Bean Noodles tasted okay. I ordered Bulgogi on menu with the descriptions, but the chef added the mushroom that I don't like! Fried dumplings and black bean noodles were okay. These food are not like Korean. I told the waiters that my friend and I were Deaf but they keep talking. I m not happy but I m cool.
