Not sure if this place has changed hands or if the previous commenters were drunk, crazy, or just put up to posting by the owners. First, the reason for their extensive selection of pancakes is that they don't actually cook the pancakes with the additional ingredients. The pancakes are plain and the 'extras' are only toppings. No matter which universe you happen to reside in, foods cooked together take on a different and more subtle dynamic than two separate foods lumped together at the last minute.The eggs on my daughters plate made me wince and the coffee made my face pucker each time I forgot myself and took a sip. The kicker is, I'm not a picky person at all. It takes *a lot* to make me sit up, take notice and say, "Hey this just isn't any good". On the plus side, the service was prompt and polite. Also, it was probably the cleanest 'pancake house' I've ever been to....not covered floor to ceiling in layers of stick. We will not be returning unless we see a 'new management' sign or something to indicate that they've taken notice of their fall into tourist slop-house schlockery. read more

I'll be honest, we went to IHOP-one of our favorites-& wait was really long, so we sought out another breakfast option in The Dells & landed at Mr. Pancake. It was packed, but they had a great numbering system using good ole tongue depressors & were prepared for a long wait - but to our surprise it only ended up being 10 minutes. We ordered our food & I was happy to get my Lingonberry crepes (IHOP fave) & they were amazing! We all had something different & all were happy-from the bacon pancakes to the omelettes. Amazing as always. Service with a smile. Keep going back once a year just for the blueberry pancake stack AND the hash browns with cheese onion and green peppers. 10/10 would recommend. Me pancake provides excellent service, and wonderful food. The portions are large, even though you have to order hash browns on the side, just do it. Prices are good for the size of the meal and the quality. Make sure you try the honey syrup, put some in your coffee too. We only waited 20 minutes but I would wait an hour if I had to read more

The food I got was good. However for a restaurant that is 90% pancakes and waffles you would think there would be gluten free and vegan options for them. In fact on the website it says that there are egg substitutes but when we went there there was no such option. Also you can not split checks, so keep that in mind when going with a group. read more

Hash browns and eggs were really good. Coffee was quite good. Banana split waffle does not disappoint. The bintzes are really good. So are the apple pancakes. The only thing, I would say negative is about the seating. It's all just tables out in the open. It just seems impersonal. It's clean and has a little tourist gift spot. The prices were kinda expensive, especially for coffee. It was $2.50 per cup. But with free refills. All in all, great place for breakfast. read more

A lot of what you might think about this restaurant is based on what you order, at least in our visit. One son got peanut butter pancakes, which were awesome. I got bacon pancakes, which were meh. Just a strip of bacon in a pancake, so everywhere else the pancake just tasted like plain pancake (while the PB one had the peanut butter all throughout). We also had a meh waiter. Not very attentive, had to be reminded a couple times to bring things (like maple syrup and napkins). Then disappeared for a while when we finished eating. Stopped by at MR. PANCAKE on Saturday morning. Typical busy morning, the service was excelent, but the food was sub par, and one of the people in our party got sick after. 2 complaints. The fruit cup was not ripe. We had never seen white pineapple. I did like the pancakes and the hash browns, but coffee was weak. Just a tip: I would like to see fresh avocados and tomatoes added to the breakfast menu and loose the "toy shop" that makes kids nuts on way in and out. read more

This is a fine choice for breakfast. The pancakes were great classic fluffy and perfectly cooked. The only thing I would expect done better would be the egg dishes. The dish was filled with hash browns that needed 5 more minutes before putting the cheese on and then 30 seconds less on the eggs so they were not as dry. Being in WI they used a mild of the road alpine cheese which was a nice touch. Would have given a 3.6 in I could've. Service was great and fast. Last thing is the coffee is church coffee. read more

Recent transplant to the Dells here and have met people that worked at Mr. Pancake. Having a generally favorable word of mouth designation, my wife and I decided to give this restaurant a try. We should have went to Perkins. I will break it down by category: Parking - not enough. It is usually a good sign when the parking lot is full but they only had one half of the restaurant open...and the lot was full. Would hate to see what it looked like if the business was truly full Cleanliness - I didn't notice anything to terrible and even when the toddler at the table next to us started throwing chunks of pancakes all over the floor...the staff was right there to clean it up Atmosphere - Loud, loud, loud...so many kids...so many people trying to talk over one another...you are packed into the room like sardines. From where I sat I could have very easily touched people on 3 different tables...and I was in a corner. For this reason alone I will not return. If you want to have a nice relaxing breakfast then this is not the place for you Food - The only saving grace. The pancakes were above average but the blintz was cold...not sure if it was supposed to be that way, I have never had a blintz before. The rest of the food(eggs, sausage, bacon) was average at best. The peanut butter pancakes were so sweet that no syrup was needed. Overall - With this restaurant being located directly in the center of water park country it is understandable that half of the patrons are age 10 and under. That being said, I will not return due to the fact that when I go for breakfast I want it to help me get rid of a headache, not cause one. read more

I was expecting the long wait, that's not why I'm giving this 1 star. They have a 1-50 number for your wait and call you in order. They skipped our number. When I asked about the skip (twice), they said we'll call you shortly. I was number 33. They called number 50 and went back to number 1 before calling us!! I'm so disappointed. read more

This place is truly worth the wait...and there will be a wait because there is a shortage of great breakfast restaurants in the Dells. It's going to seem like you are here forever, but ask for some crayons and color the kids page on the back of the menu because you don't want to leave before the amazing food comes! If you are looking for hearty, no frills, good old fashioned breakfast food- this is the place for you! We love the food and experience here- pancakes, waffles, you name it! It's all delicious. My personal favorite is the hash browns with added cheese, onion and green pepper. YUMMY! It's very laid back and kid friendly. We visit here (usually more than once) when we visit the area. Mr. Pancake I want to love you. I mean yelp seems to love you. The many people I waited with in the stuffed animal infested lobby for 30 minutes love you. Why can't I love you? Because you Mr. Pancake don't make very good food. Really. After reading yelp reviews I was surprised by how mundane and mediocre the food was. I had the chocolate chip pancakes, a plate of hash browns, and some pepsi. The pancakes were nothing I couldn't make at home. Take pancake mix. Put in bowl. Add water and stir. Place five even circles of batter on heated flat top. Flip. Place pancakes on plate. Add chocolate chips on top and some whip cream. Eat. Nothing about their pancakes were different, special, or above average. They weren't bad. They tasted like pancakes. But with such a namesake as Mr. Pancake and many great reviews of how good they are i was expecting something great. They weren't. The hashbrowns, which the placemat menu states are one of the things they are known for, tasted like a quality hashbrown. And are comparable and equal to any other hashbrown I've ever eaten at any other diner I've ever been to. Like Denny's. Or IHOP. And actually. That's what Mr. Pancake is to me. A different name for the same type of food. Just with more waiting. So. Mr Pancake. I'm sorry. It seems things aren't going to work out between us. It's not you. It's me. I thought we'd be doomed for at least a 20+ minute wait seeing that Mr. Pancake is directly across the street from Noah's Ark, but somehow we were seated immediately as we walked in. Their menu is kinda limited, I thought for sure the other side of my placemat would have more options, but I was mistaken. After I saw peanut butter pancakes on there, my mind was made up. Our food took a little longer than it should've but they were busy so no big deal. My peanut butter cakes had whipped cream & mini M&M's which were fantastic when mixed with the peanut butter batter. AMAZING! This was the best meal we had during our entire stay in the Dells! We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table (we were quoted 25) for a party of 2, and it wasn't a bad wait at all. And the food was totally worth it! The pancakes are amazing!! Whatever ones you decide to try make sure you try the honey syrup! We also got omlettes (which were perfectly light), hashbrowns with cheese and onions, and bacon. The food was amazing and our server was so nice! Definitely go if you have the chance! read more

I rely heavily on yelp when I travel, and Im from Chicago so im use to eating amazing meals. The reviews I read said the pancakes were amazing, but to skip the eggs and sausage. That's exactly what I did. I got pancakes and their hash browns. They were great. My family loved as well. We usually eat at Cracker Barrel for their pancakes. We went to the Dells in the off season and there isn't much of a choice for breakfast. Our resort was nice but the restaurant was closed-not enough mouths to feed. I assumed that a restaurant in a paddleboat would be really crappy but I was pleasantly surprised. They have a wide variety of pancakes, like peanut butter, Iowa Corn and Hawaiian, as well as the usual breakfast fare-blintzes, french toast, waffles, omelettes, etc. I had the veggie omelette with cheese...I figured it's Wisconsin, I'm gonna get a choice of cheese but no, it was boring old American. No extra sharp cheddar this time, boo hoo. At least the veggies were fresh. The pancakes were great! They fucking better be, with a name like Mr. Pancake, right? No, they really were good, moist and tender, maybe almost as good as Walker Brothers, but in a different way, though slathered with butter they were pretty damn close. I don't think the maple syrup was real. They had the assortment of syrups, maple, blueberry, strawberry. Coffee was just ok. Hubby ordered hash browns, so crispy and dripping with butter, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Defintely will go back here. read more
