We've used Mr. Peabody's for well over a decade for cleaning our carpets. By far, they have the best equipment and most meticulous approach. They are also not inexpensive, so if you need some deep cleaning and other services - they'll do a great job for you -- but it will cost you some bank. We currently have 5 year old carpet that I called them to clean. Over the phone we discussed what areas were needed -- they still have measurements and rooms recorded from our first visit - so I simply had to confirm what areas were to be cleaned. I was pleased to learn they also do non-carpeted floor and countertop cleaning now, too, though we didn't schedule that. We set up an appointment and the team (3 people!) arrived promptly. They identified areas that needed some deeper cleaning (bad dog!) and we agreed on the services and pricing. The team brought in tarps to cover our floor, used booties so they didn't track anything in, and had corner guards to protect our walls from getting messed up. They also showed considerable knowledge of construction materials and advised us on the best care for the carpet and how they would approach the cleaning so as not to damage our baseboards. UPDATE: After posting my review below, less than 24 hours later I received a phone call from Bryan. He was very gracious and apologized for my negative experience. I appreciated that he explained more details of the situation while also not making excuses. I felt heard and respected. He even went as far as to offer to repair our customer relationship when I need my carpets cleaned in the future. That was a very kind gesture on their part. While my initial interaction with them was negative, I commend them for personally following-up and taking their customer's feedback. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Do NOT use Mr. Peabody. They are rude and irresponsible. I didn't even get to the point of having my carpets cleaned. First, they had to reschedule my appointment because of "scheduling issues". Then, the night before my rescheduled appointment, a rude lady named Brittany (I think) called to tell me they can't come out because their portable machine is broken. She was rude and blamed me for THEIR issue. After rearranging my home to try to make their 250ft. truck work, she said she would NOT send out the truck to do the job because she had already schedule a different job. I asked her directly, "did you schedule someone in my time slot without speaking to me first?" and she said YES! Then, she told me it wasn't my place to be making scheduling decisions. She was SO RUDE and unprofessional claiming she had to stay late to deal with this. None of this was my fault considering I scheduled with them 2 weeks beforehand. What a great experience and team, all around! From the first call for scheduling a site visit to the final product and everything in between. I am a local contractor and found myself in a new situation with newly installed quartz countertops. If it weren't for Mr. Peabody's team, I likely would've had to demo the new counters, pay for replacements for the homeowner, and install again. I was seriously worried but this team has a lot of experience with my problem and they reassured me that it was something they could handle - and they did, so well! I've had my carpets cleaned by several companies over the years, and I think the cleaning products that were used became a magnet for attracting more dirt. I called Conklin Brothers where I purchased carpet. They recommended Mr. Peabody's, and I am certainly glad they did. The carpet cleaning was exceptional and extremely professional. Every spot and dirty area was removed. The carpet looks new, and the product used doesn't attract dirt. The cleaners were exceptionally professional. They moved the furniture and replaced it with great care, placing protectors on the bottom of each piece to prevent the wood from staining the damp carpet. I have many antiques and appreciated the special care they took with each piece. The service may more expensive than others but is well worth it. The cleaning products and sealants repel rather than attract dirt. The technicians are polite, on time, and extremely careful. I also bought a bottle of their spot remover, the same solution they use to clean the carpet. It is great for quick spot removal throughout the year. My old carpets continue to look new and have ever since I began using Mr. Peabody's. A great find! read more

DO NOT USE Mr. Peabody's if you want an honest company, fair prices and transparency. We hired them to clean our flagstone patio in the front and backyard. The original estimate was more than 5 times higher than previous times we've had this done. I explained that it was too expensive and that we wanted what we'd had done before. They made a revised quote that was over 80% lower than the original, and still more expensive than we've ever paid before. They arrived at our house and the guy was rude. He asked me if I expected him to move our plant pots. I said just try and be as thorough as possible (the other company we used moved the pots without question.) They were supposed to be there all day. In the meantime they left our house with a text message that said "We left an hour ago. Unfortunately our company is not going to give you the results you are looking for with the price you are willing to pay". So they left our house WITHOUT finishing the job. This was so unprofessional. Why take the job if they can't deliver results? And check with the customer to see if they are okay with some of the black organic matter not coming out (which I was fine with) before just leaving. Very disappointed. They wasted my time, they were RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL - stay away. read more

Our realtor recommended Mr Peabody's without hesitation. They came close to a 5 star job, but for this to be a proper Yelp review I need to disclose a problem. My wife made an appointment for an appraisal of our situation and Terry Peabody, the owner, came to handle the job. She said he was on-time, thorough, reasonable and gave us a written estimate before he left the house. We scheduled the work for a few days later. After the workers arrived, they discovered the grout needed more than a major cleaning. It required painting using a "color seal" process which is quite a painstaking and time consuming process. Terry indicated it might be an issue so we weren't surprised and agreed to go ahead. In fact, he made an extra visit so my wife could choose an appropriate color for the grout. Mr Peabody's did the front entry, kitchen, hallway, 2 1/2 bathrooms and laundry area. Normally, such a job would take one day, but the added "color seal" required part of a 2nd day. They met our criteria for doing a very good job: - Arrived on time - Did the work with a minimum of fuss and delay - Help move several items, such as supplies on the floor in the pantry - Nice guys - Charged a reasonable price. Certainly not cheap, but we got what we paid for. There's one reason I'd decline awarding the final 5th star. The cleaning solution used in their machine spread onto nearby surfaces within a foot of our tile. For example, in the kitchen, the liquid covered the bottom foot of the refrigerator and cabinets plus a nearby laminated wood floor. It didn't just leak. It sprayed...and took lots of effort to remove. Collateral damage? Despite the reservations, we like the hands-on attitude of the owner, Terry Peabody, and how our tile floors look brand new after 14 years of wear and tear. read more

We moved into a beautiful new home in Aptos but our Terrazzo countertops were a little worse for wear due to acid etching and knife marks. We wanted the home to feel brand new, so we called out Mr. Peabody's to restore our countertops throughout our Kitchen, Master Bath, upstairs guest bath and laundry room. Terry, the owner, was quick to respond with a visit to give us a reasonable quote considering how much polishing and sanding would be required to make them all like new again. Terry's stone refinishing team of Trenton and Gil came out and did an excellent job of restoring our counter surfaces throughout our house. It took one day for the kitchen and another for the bathrooms and laundry room. All of the appliances and fixtures were carefully masked off and in the original condition after the process, which was a big relief. The Mr. Peabody's team was professional and courteous throughout the process. We highly recommend that you give Mr. Peabody's a call if you need your stone/quartz counters resurfaced. If it wasn't for the technician doing his best to clean tile grout and remove tile shine I would have given this business a one rating. I was debating whether to replace or clean the tile but with Terry indicating the grout would look great, and the tile would look honed after the service, his company was hired. He also indicated that it would be a two day job, with two workers, which was confirmed by the person confirming the appointment even after some of the work was eliminated. What I paid for five hours of work, with breaks, and even with a discount, was exorbitant in my opinion. The bottom line: while my tile does look nicer after cleaning because there are divots in the grout, a dark dirty look to some of the grout remains. The technician indicated the only solution would be to re-grout. If Terry had properly advised us of the likely outcome we probably would have gone for replacement. That, plus the cost, earns the three stars, and perhaps even then I'm being generous. read more

This firm was recommended to me by a friend, as our previous carpet cleaner moved out of the area. Outrageously expensive for the service. It cost me over $1,000 to clean a carpet about 900 sq. ft., and to do two runners approximately 3'x30'. They did not move the large chair (on casters) to the bathroom very closeby, nor the small side table. As a result I have divets all over the carpet, which I cannot get rid of. I hired Mr. Peabody to come out and install More Anti-Etch on my Terrazzo countertops. I was very concerned about possible discoloration and Terry developed several different samples with and without primer to help me decide. Once I had made the decision Terry quickly moved forward and completed the job. His staff was extraordinary - they left the job site clean everyday and the work came out excellent. What really impressed my was 4 weeks later when the More Anti-Etch began to display some flaking characteristics. Upon further review we discovered that (due to the manufacturer's advice) two coats of primer had been installed and not one. Terry, at his expense even though it was not his fault, had the guys come out and redo ALL of the stone. This to me is a true measure of a sub-contractors value. Many will come out and perform the work but getting them to come back for repairs (particularly warranty issues) can often be challenging. Not with Terry & Mr. Peabody. They impressed me through and through and I will most certainly be back with another project. read more

I received follow up call from Terry which I didn't return right after I left the first 2 stars review. I think I would have yelled at him if I did at the time. He called me again today 3 months later as I was the last person to write a review. This time I was a lot more calm and have settled down into our new home. I called Terry back and he asked again why I gave such a poor review for their work. I told him that they damaged my 12k NEW WOLF RANGE by leaving swirl marks on it. His crew also used cheap blue tape that peeled back our new level 5 grade drywall and paint which I had to pay the painter to repair. His comment "we should not have used this tape on new paint" He didn't offer to fix it. His crew also did not remove the swirl mark I wanted gone on my countertops. They also chipped our new very expensive countertops near our sink. I also heard nothing but complaining from his crew member Gil. How he didn't know how to work on carrara marble and spent the weekend trying to figure out the best formula to use and that Terry would not appreciate the work he put in and that he may go on disability after having a bicycle accident. This isn't what I customer should be hearing while work is being performed. To be clear...it took them 4 week to complete because they told me they had to order materials because they didn't know how to properly perform the work. He told me he had to work with 2 vendors to get the job done. It wasn't a big job and work wise only took them 5 days to complete but wasted 4 weeks of my time while their equipment and prep work was laid out around my house. Just talking to him and writing this follow up review is starting to piss me off again. He asked what he could do to make it up. I would never have him work on my house again and would rather leave it as is. Having his crew come back would be a nightmare. It just goes to show that the owner thinks my comments were funny...I'm not laughing. Avoid at all cost. read more

I paid $650 to have my master carpet cleaned. When I found out what my friend had been charged to clean the carpet throughout her house, I was stunned. I obviously paid way TOO MUCH. Rather than moving the two pieces of furniture to the tile floor in the master bath, they kept the furniture in the room and propped it up on wedges. My master bedroom carpet had been hit pretty hard over the years by my incontinent dog. Not only that, it had a major dirty pathway where we walked the most. I couldn't believe how beautifully it turned out! The crew also put on an enzyme treatment for pet urine odors and did a protective treatment as well. They used hot water extraction and an amazing carpet scrubber with nylon bristles which really knocked out the dirty pathway marks. I have worked with Mr. Peabody's for years and always meant to post a review but never got around to it. That had to change after the masterful job they did on our carpet. A full glass of red wine was spilled on our light grey carpet and chair around 8 pm one evening. All the immediate efforts to remedy the stain were to no avail. To make matters worse, in trying to scrub the stain out, we destroyed many of the rug fibers. After a couple of tearful hours, I called Mr. Peabody's and left an urgent message to please call me back. First thing the next morning, we received a call. They came to our house the same day (thanks to a cancellation). They were able to clean the chair on the spot and totally removed the very large stain that ran all the way down one side and on the cushion. The rug was so damaged they needed to take it away for restoration work. Two weeks later, our rug was returned with no sign of the stain or damage to the rug fibers. It looked as good as they day we first laid it down over there years prior. I cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Peabody's. Yes, they are a bit more expensive but absolutely worth it, even for someone as cost conscious as me. They are true professionals and very nice people. Mr. Peabody's beautified my carpet in under an hour, and the staff is AWESOME! I'll admit that this is the first time I've ever hired someone to clean my carpet. I remember my mom renting a machine from a grocery store and I've helped her with it.. total pain in the butt! Our carpet is about 4 years old and has never been cleaned except for spot treatments using store-bought rug foams and sprays, which attracted more dirt due to the residue that it leaves. When I first called Mr. Peabody's, I talked to Chris, who is very friendly, and she called me to remind me of my appointment for the next day. Harold and Pedro showed up to my door (a little late, but they did call to let me know, which I totally appreciate). They quickly measured my condo and let me know exactly what was going on. These guys were super-friendly, efficient and were total pros. My carpet looks so clean and fresh! Even the pet stains we had have vanished completely. The carpet is still a little damp 24 hours later (we've got fans going right now) but it is nice and fluffy. No scents or perfumes were used, so it just smells clean in here. We received little booties from the Peabody's team to walk around in while the carpet is drying and they made sure to let us know what to do while the carpet is still wet. I live in Half Moon Bay and sometimes it is hard to get service over here, so I was surprised when Mr. Peabody's works in our area. I am so glad I found them. I have travertine in my kitchen as well as a bathroom. The kitchen in particular had become quite worn with several holes that needed filling. The team came out and worked non stop for six hours. The result was spectacular. They cleaned the entire surface and then filled the holes so that they were virtually unnoticeable. They finished with a polish to the level of shine i wanted. What experts! They did a fantastic job cleaning both our kitchen tile floor, grout and our engineered wood floor throughout our house!
