I stopped in Mr. Pickle's Sandwich Shop to get me one of their signature subs. My go-to is the meatball sandwich, which consists of Italian meatballs, Provolone, Marinara Sauce, and Garlic Sauce. It's a delicious combination. All the ingredients work well together. The only demerit for this particular sandwich was a bit of bone in the meatball grind, which of course was inedible. This alone was enough to prevent a five star review. I must say this is the first time this has happened. After hearing the rave reviews from friends it was high time I checked it out myself. I have to say it definitely is on the upper tier of sandwichs places in Marin. The sandwiches are generous, the ingredients are good quality but I wish they had a few more options when it comes to toppings and spreads. It would be nice to have sprouts, banana peppers, honey mustard and Dijon. I should say that I'm kinda picky when it comes to my sandwiches. I like them gourmet, fresh and the perfect balance. It took me a while to review this staple in downtown. Every other week I will order the kick in chicken or hot pastrami and sometimes a deli like sliced sandwich. Their bread is always good and they give a good amount of meat. Fresh delicious veggies and the menu encapsulates every taste bud you want to hit. After enjoying my first Mr. Pickle experience a few months ago (trust me, I know how obscene this sentence sounds, and I'm sorry), I was looking forward to another one of their sandwiches the other day. Fortunately, I came in after the mad lunch rush. After spending 10 minutes reading their entire sandwich menu, I finally ordered their Tom Turkey (Roasted Turkey, Bacon, Swiss, w/ "EVERYTHING" on a sweet roll). Unfortunately, this sando didn't quite hit the spot. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of all the ingredients. Turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, etc... But unfortunately, the sandwich fell flat. First off, the turkey they used was a sodium bomb. Don't get me wrong, I like me some salt. But this was WAY too salty for human consumption. Secondly, the bacon wasn't crispy and tasted like it had been sitting out for quite a while. Lastly, the mayo to mustard ratio was off. I felt like they could've used some more condiments or at least some vinegar or something to give it a bit more flavor. I will say this - Mr. Pickles makes huge sandwiches. So you're getting plenty of carb bang for your buck. And the employees continue to surprise me with their friendliness and professionalism. But if I go back (and I probably will), I'm def going to try something else on their menu. read more
