The salads that cane with it included a carnage salad, tomato and cucumber, red cabbage, and onions. Each was good, though if you don't like mint you might not like the cucumber. This place is really good! We went to get our licenses renewed down the street and wanted to find a halal stop near by because we were super hungry! When we walked in the staff was friendly and made some great suggestions on what we should order. We got the falafels as an appetizer and they were so flavorful!! We are sucker for falafels and these made our top 5 in IL. We also got the combination platter and chicken salad -- 10/10!! If we weren't so far away we would come back more often. You walk in an are greeted warmly. I chose the combination dinner because I could not decide. The meats are delicious and wonderfully spiced. The char grilling adds to the flavor and texture. The rice made a generous bed for the entrees. The salads add the crunch, texture and refreshes the pallet with a whole new set of flavors. Tahini is just a pleasant sauce while the hot sauce is blazing hot. When used with the falafels each sauce adds it's essence to the bite. Everything was cooked to order and the sides were fresh. Their falafel had just the right spice to it and was not bland. This is a no nonsense, family-owned shawarma place. I do not believe they are associated with the chain. The menu is small, but they have a good selection of sides. I have ordered nearly every item on the menu and the only thing I have not been impressed with was the beef shawarma. It may have been a bad day, but the meat was gristly and stringy. I would also avoid the baklava in the cooler next to the register; it was dry and crumbly, so I am not sure how long it had been in there. I was surprised at how good the falafel is. The falafel shawarma has become my go-to item. Their falafel just goes SO GOOD with the hummus, tabbouleh, Jerusalem salad, and onions. They also have a hamburger-esque meat (kifta I think) with surprisingly complex flavor. Didn't realize it didn't have any in the entrée till I was already gone. Also, the rice could have left out the onions and peas, I like it plain, just my preference. The humus was made from a can. The pita was microwave heated. The chicken was from a frozen chicken, but their prices were fresh. This was a disappointment beginning to end. None of the salads tasted good, the meat was dry and unsalted. There is only one size for the drink and no ice in the machine. This place is the poster child for how not to run a restaurant. I was passing through on a Monday morning and found Mr. Pita was open for lunch. So glad I stopped. The combination was a good sampling since I was hungry and could not decide on one item. One thing is the small plastic utensils were awkward for a hungry guy in a hurry - an odd detail since there are tables for dine-in. The food is extremely good here, although it is a little expensive. They seem to have recently changed management though, and in some ways it feels like a change for the worse. The rice isn't quite as good as it used to be, they are more stingy with sides (used to be able to pick out whatever you wanted but now it's just a standard set), and they will not even provide water for free anymore. The food was OK. My wife ordered a falafel plate and I ordered the combination platter. We shared a hummus, as well. Portion sizes were pretty good, as there was a solid amount of food in our to go containers. There also was a very sizable amount of hummus in our order as well. The side salads they provided were pretty good, with a small amount of fatoush salad, a cabbage and beet salad, shredded carrot salad, along with pickles, onions and tomatoes. They gave a LOT of rice on both our plates, a bit much if I must say. Overall report of the taste of the food was Meh...the hummus was a bit bland, and was missing something, not sure what. The meat was ok, a little over cooked. My wife's falafel platter was good though. Finally, hot sauce and tahini. The hot sauce was SPICY!!! It tasted quite a bit like chili garlic sauce that you can buy at the store. Tahini was good. Overall, I'm giving this place 3 stars.
