I am a 14 year customer of this company. I have had some great moments and referred them to many people. However, the latest experience with them has completely damaged my opinion of them. The simple locksmith service is great, but how to get to them has changed significantly. The customer service interaction with this company is AWFUL. The customer service manager will lie and point fingers instead of fixing problems. They deny any changes recently, but they actually changed their entire system. The new system is BROKEN. When the last person came on-site, I was not given a priority as promised. It is like their was intent to screw up. The locksmith was late and no call. The first appointment was completely missed. It was a cold winter day in December and we needed help rekey ing the locks of our property. We contacted several locksmiths and all of them were charging a visit fee and a per lock rekeying charge. Rekey locksmiths were very friendly, professional, helpful and provided that same day service. Their quote was by far the best and they were also running a promotion which we could take advantage of. Ronnie was on time and exactly knew what he was doing. He rekeyed seven locks in no time for us and charged us only for 6 and gave us 4 keys. The price was very reasonable. They were already clear about the promotion they were running unlike other locksmiths who who would quote lower price, come down to the property and then hand you a much larger bill. Cordell took care of us. Some of the best service I have ever received in any industry. Our front door deadbolt locked up. It wouldn't turn. There was a day's delay for them to get out here--most likely because I called on a Monday. The service time was 9-2. He was here by 9:30. He took the lock apart and examined each bit. After thoughtfully working through a variety of issues, he determined a piece of wood had made it into the lock. He saved us $25 on a new lock. We were only charged the service fee. I had the pleasure of getting a visit from Mike and Ernie of Mr. Rekey, and I received exceptional service. I'm leasing a property, and my property manager hired Mr. Rekey to fix the locks on the sliding glass door in the condo. This is very important because this is the main door that we use to get in and out of the condo. A previous locksmith from a different company came over twice and finally fixed the lock, but left it in somewhat shoddy condition -- the sliding glass door handle was very loose, and susceptible to breaking in my opinion. Ernie installed a door brace within 5 minutes and it now works properly, without any jiggle. They also completely removed the faulty charlie bar on the door and installed a pin lock for added security. In addition, they did a check on the front door, which was completely above and beyond what we hired them for, and made sure it was working correctly. Mike and Ernie completed the job within approximately twenty minutes, where a different company took around an hour over two days, and didn't even completely finish the job. Lastly, Ernie did a quick repair on our bathroom door lock, which again, was completely above and beyond what I was expecting. It now functions a bit better than before. My condo's door is about 40 years old and has probably had more locks in it than a [insert unsavory analogy here]. As a result, not only were the drillholes complete stripped, the ones on top were busted through to the latch hole completely! Combine that with a door frame that had so many face lifts it looked creepy, and you've got the situation I am in. So first, I tried to fix it myself - bought a deadbolt and lever. Uninstalled existing locks just to have the whole thing collapse in a pile of sawdust. Tried to wedge it in myself (unsuccessfully). I knew this was beyond me. So I called Mr. Rekey. Real person (Christine) picked up and got me scheduled for the same day. Said they'd be here between 1 - 5pm. In my experience, that usual means 6pm or later, so I didn't have high hopes. I got a call right at 1 from Jack, the locksmith, who would be there in 30 minutes. Great lead time in case I was out of the house. Showed up right when he said he would at 1:30, assessed the situation correctly ("fubar", ha!!), and proceeded to fix my massive problem without having to have me get the condo association involved to fix the whole door. Fast, courteous, professional, and best of all, since I had already "installed" the handle and deadbolt (loosely speaking), he didn't charge me for the installation - just the service call charge, which was completely reasonable for the amount of boring (as in, to bore) and adjusting he had to do to our door frame. Door opens and even shuts now! My wife is currently locked out of the house! Should I give her the new key? Only time will tell! Five stars, would use them again. read more

Ernie came out to change the locks on my house after I had sold it and ended up doing a lease back from the new homeowner, he did a fantastic job and everything is working perfectly, the only downside is, due to how long the doors were open and I ended up with a lot of mosquitoes inside the home and my AC couldn't keep up with the amount of time that the doors were open. I had Texas ReKey out today to re-lock and bring up to code a house I plan on renting. The person who answered my call explained the various codes and requirements I would need to have to be up to code. They also informed me of the various costs for time and parts for each and every aspect of the job that would be done. They also were able to have a locksmith at the house the same day! Ronnie showed up on time, was friendly and very knowledgeable. He went over what my options were with the various brands of locks and their quality and what his opinion on what the best option was (which I went with). We just moved to a new house - it was lived in previously by the owners, so apparently wasn't up to "rental code" with the locks. Our new property management company set up the work order with Mr. Rekey to come and get the house up to code in that regard after we moved in. The person who called to schedule the appt with me was extremely nice - we agreed on a Monday appt between 11-1. I got a call on Monday morning from one of the locksmiths asking if it would be alright if they came a little later due to lots of appts in other areas - I work from home, so this was definitely no biggie, and I was mainly just glad they called and asked; I'm pretty confident that if it had been a problem, they would have done everything they could to get here when needed. The locksmith called again to let me know they were about 30 minutes away - again, super glad that they called so I had time to put my dog up. All in all, I think they were very professional, and very quick. They were in and out of my house within about 40 minutes, and they had to add a brand new deadbolt to the front door, add a new lock bar to the back door, change out locks on the garage door, test fire extinguishers, etc. I would definitely use this company again if needed. read more

A lock broke in my house last night, but it wasn't an emergency. I contacted several locksmiths through Yelp. Mr. Rekey was the first one to respond (in approximately 3 minutes). They called in the morning to set a time. I got a heads-up text 30 minutes beforehand and the tech (Mike) was on-time. It took him about 10 minutes to repair and replace. The cost was a little less than I was expecting. The price of their service calls is $59 (if memory serves), which is cheaper than others. All told, a great experience both with the customer service staff and the tech. Absolutely would use them again! read more

Set up an appointment with them from 10-2. Moved things around at work to be at home. I get a call from the locksmith at 1:51pm that he was backed up. I understand things comes up, but 9 minutes is not a courtesy. I called the customer service line and didn't get anywhere. As a new homeowner, the $99 rekey promotion seemed to be a good deal. The price was right, the tech was friendly, and the work seemed to be performed well, which is why I gave more than one star. BUT there was a major negative part to this deal. Throughout the encounter, the tech mentioned that his "supervisor" might be stopping by to check on his work and to make sure I was satisfied with the service. Ok, no problem. And near the end of the work, the "supervisor" showed up and was introduced as such. But after only a few minutes, it was obvious that the "supervisor" was actually a salesman for Vivint Security Systems, not an actual employee of Mr. Rekey. He even admitted that he lived out of state and was clearly flown in to handle sales in this area. The only reason he stopped by was to try to push me into buying a home security system, and a hard sell approach was used. Even though I was upset about the tech lying to me, the deceptive tactic used by these companies, and my time being wasted while I was in the process of moving into a new home, I played nice and allowed the rep to tell me about the system, show me his video, and give me pricing details. But after seeing the pricing compared to other companies, being told that things I cared about were wrong, and also being given inaccurate information about other companies I had looked into, I eventually made it clear that I would not be buying the security system that day. At this point, the rep's attitude went from relatively pleasant and patronizing to frustrated, aggressive, and snippy. I responded in kind and he eventually accepted defeat and left. Overall, I think it's a safe speculation that Mr. Rekey offers this $99 deal to customers while being paid by Vivint to allow them to have their sales rep stop by under the guise of being a "supervisor". I am not opposed to salespeople trying to sell products and services but I AM opposed to people lying to me. I also do not take kindly to extremely pushy salespeople, in general, and especially not when they become angry and more aggressive once I've made it clear that I will not be buying their product. For these reasons, I will not recommend Mr. Rekey to people I know or anyone searching online. read more

I have used Mr.Rey for aver 10 years. For the last 2 years they have been just terrible. I think it was the time they started doing other jobs they lost their focus on their core business which is re-keying. Ken Jennings is a nice guy but he has lost control of his business. The straw that broke the camels back was a tech went out to one of my properties that I mange and did not disable the lock as instructed. They sent the tech out again and charged me.I called them to ask them to remove the charge which they did.Today I get an invoice for trip charge. When I called to talk to a supervisor one could not be found.I told them to keep them money and I will take my 100 doors else were.Maybe if Ken loses more property managers because of their lack of service he will tighten up the business. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences ever. Initially, they were not responsive and it took me almost 2 weeks just to schedule an appointment. Then when it came to the actual appointment, they went to the wrong house. Then they told me they couldn't come back that day because I wasn't there.... Later, they called back, telling me they would come back and that they could only come back the same day, which was extremely frustrating. I had a relative go in my stead, since I could not get off work. They ended up charging her, even after she explicitly told them the house builder should have paid for the rekey (this was in my contract). I am trying to contact them now to get her money refunded, and they aren't answering or returning my calls. Would definitely not recommend. Get a more competent re-keying service provider! read more
