I really can't go back to this place as much as I like to food. Besides, it's NJ - there are plenty of other good delis and sub shops in the area. Several times now while dining in, we've had to ask the person behind the counter to lower the air conditioner, which they keep at arctic temperature. Today, some lady standing in front of me in line was rubbing her bare arms trying to prevent hypothermia. I told her it's always like this in here. The arctic breeze is blowing so hard that I took photos of the hanging signs fluttering because of all the turbulence. When asking the cashier why it was still consistently uncomfortably cold in the place he responded, " we don't even feel it because it gets so hot back here while we're working." Last Saturday, my husband and I stopped by Mr. Subs in South Plainfield for lunch. We were in the area and famished. We decided to eat there. He ordered the All Cheeses sub and added fresh avocado for $1. He gobbled up his sandwich quickly and finished before me. I ordered a tuna sub with everything and mayo. "Everything" at Mr. Subs means lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar, salt, pepper, and oregano. You know, it's always a gamble to order a tuna sub sandwich; you have 50/50 chance of getting a soggy mess. No soggy mess here. It was really just right. I also picked up a bag of Ms. Vicky chips. It was a great lunch! The South Plainfield location has a lot of available seating. There are booths on one side of the shop, a high ledge against the storefront window, and tables with comfy club chairs in the middle. During warm weather, you can also eat at one of the outdoor tables in front. There are two entrances at the S. Plainfield location, with parking available at both sides. It's located in a shopping plaza, so no worries about getting a space. Lastly, nice TVs inside and a clean bathroom (never underestimate the value of a clean bathroom at any establishment). I stopped by here for lunch because I was famished after running some errands in the area. Because there is a wide variety of subs and sandwiches to choose from, I struggled to determine exactly what my stomach and brain were craving. I ended up ordering 2 chicken cutlet sandwiches (yes, both for myself) with all the toppings minus mayonnaise. I thought that service was a bit slow, given that I was the only patron in the store at the time. However, I didn't mind too much and my order was ready for me. When I returned to my car, I immediately unwrapped one of them and bit into the sandwich. I was taken aback by how delicious it was. The bread had a nice crunch to it, the chicken was lightly breaded and fried perfectly, and the vegetables were very fresh. I was tempted to finish both of them before driving but I suppressed the temptation and ate the other one when I got back to my dorm. Obviously the thing that makes a subshop top notch is the meat genorosity and the degree of bread softness ( yeah pretty scientific lol) . I'm not big on ordering Tuna outside as I most enjoy it when I make it home but when I don't feel like using arm energy opening cans I grab a half sub from Mr subs and it is definitely the next best thing. The amount of tuna is sometimes a hit or miss depending on who's preparing it. And bye the time I add provolone cheese and sweet peppers it's about $7 without chips and drink we are talking about a $10/$11 sub shop experience. So yeah a generous amount of meat or tuna is warranted. They are very friendly for the most part and seem to have a pretty good system going on there. You can dine in or out . They make breakfast sandwiches and have hot sandwiches and burgers also. I went to Mr. Subs last week to pick up a sub for dinner. I had not been in this restaurant for several months but was immediately reminded that I should frequent this place more often! They renovated the restaurant a few years ago - I do not know what it had looked like before. But the ambiance is very nice. There is plenty of seating inside. I am from NYC and remember growing up with Boars Head meats, I've since moved to SLC and have not found a sandwich place worth raving about. This place surpassed my expectations. One bite into the "mr sub" and I was sold! I may have been hungry, but shortly after I had mayo, oil and vinegar goodness dripping from the bread and on my lips and fingers, the wings arrived, and my mouth instantly watered. The wings were perfectly doused in buffalo sauce with just the right spice. If you're fingers don't get dirty eating them, it must not be great. Good quality Boars Head meat, shredded lettuce, good portions for a great price. They also have a wide variety of potato chips for those that must have some with their sandwich.
