The egg rolls that I got, they're definitely on the smaller side. The sashimi is interesting, however, for sushi, plating is a must. Went here for my 2 year anniversary as this was supposed to be our original first date. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We got some sushi and had teriyaki from the stake house side. The sushi was very good and would come back again for that. However the chicken fried shrimp I got was awful. The rice tasted like soy sauce and the shrimp and chicken were so hard. I have no complaints for the sushi and sake, but my salmon outright tasted like a seafood flavored nissin cup noodle. It was the most fishy tasting salmon I've had. The fried rice was missing flavor and mostly just tasted of soy sauce. The soup and salad were standard for hibachi, I enjoyed the sweetness of the salad dressing. Service was nice and welcoming. A party of seven. We were promptly seated and beverages served within a few minutes. There was PLENTY of help at the tables and bar. Empty bowls were removed quickly. The young ladies were attentive refilling water and sodas. The salad is simply head lettuce but let me tell you, the delicious salad dressing MAKES IT! The miso soup was hot and mighty tasty. We all ordered hibachi. One mahi mahi, two chicken, two chicken & shrimp and two shrimp. Our chef was enthusiastic and entertaining. The experience was a lot of fun for all of us. I would honestly give it 0 stars. Our waitress wouldn't even make eye contact with my husband. She seemed over it. We weren't even offered water for over 15 minutes. The bathrooms were disgusting, the sink splashes water all over you if you turn the water on. The bathroom locking door handle was also broken and hanging off of the door. Since this was a single stall it was very unsettling. The sushi rolls: spicy sushi, spicy tuna, and Alaska roll looked like mince meat. It honestly looked disgusting. He begrudgingly ate it. Our Grandma and I had Hibachi. But, the soup was very oily and salty. The dressing on the salad was also very gross. The chef looks me dead in the eye and says "yes, you ordered medium rare, it's supposed to be cold". MFER NO ITS NOT!!! I know what the hell a medium rare steak is! "Cool pink" is NOT the same as "COLD FKN PURPLE"!!! I'm LIVID!!! He says, "put it on the grill I'll cook it more for you". So I'm flipping food off my plate onto the grill like wtf.... The hibachi is always a hit and the steak is cooked perfectly every time I've been. Pricing is incredible for what you get, their lunch special is always going on and seriously the best pricing you'll get on rolls in the area. Oof. Husband and I just moved here a few months ago - we really love the area and went looking for some new places to try food. I was definitely curious about this sushi place because it's super close to home but it also had a long list of mixed reviews from newbs and elites alike so I thought I'd give it a shot for lunch today with a friend. I expected based on the reviews that the wait time would be a problem. I can say for sure that the consistent complaint of lack of staff on top of long wait times for food is not exaggerated - it was pretty on point. My friend and I ordered a variety of sushi rolls and found that they were just alright. The waiter wasn't really interested in explaining what rolls were what - or that some of what we ordered was out of stock so our plate was a bit on the light side. The food was just okay but I've had better in other places of the Midwest. I don't think I'll ever return here but I'm glad I got to give it a try. Customer service was nice when they got around to helping - but are very slow and incredibly under staffed. There's only one guy there to make sushi- we had to get our own clean plates from other tables since we were never given any by the waiter when we were seated. There's a lot going on here that needs improvement .. however unless this place goes under new management I don't plan on returning.. out of everything we ordered and ate, the baked mussels were the best part. read more

Mr sushi, what happened to you? My wife 2kids and I went there yesterday to celebrate NYE the place we're not busy at all and yet our experience was dull and unpleasant. It seems that I was the only one excited to dine there again after several years. This place 15 years ago was the best in Kansas City and I know they have trophies to prove it. Now I am sad to see that Mr. Sushi is now in the past. Ok! enough with this. The food and service we had experienced yesterday was 1 star for how slow it was they forgot to make half of our food, we waited while sittng in the hibachi no one bring our food the hibachi cook , cooked half of our food and left . The other hibachi cook so as and heard we missing food apologies to as but that was it, they had no clue who's cooking our food 3 different helpers told us it's coming but the cook on the other table said that they did not cook it so it will be a while . No one there seems to care or know how to recover customers or at least explain what was going on . We left dismayed , frustrated and disappointed. read more

Adjusting my rating due to a decline in both quality and service. I have ordered mostly carryout over the past few months. The orders have been slow to prepare, items were incorrect and unfortunately I had to throw away food on two orders. The fish just did not taste fresh. I attempted to dine in person and they were so badly understaffed that seating was a gamble. The host was making drinks, cleaning tables, collecting money and not writing down the parties as they arrived so there was no way he could tell who to seat or how long they had been waiting. I am sure they are understaffed due to covid but still you can't mess up orders that easily run $50-$75 and then find fish you have to throw away. We've been going to Mr Sushi for years. The difference between dining in and carrying out is they always get something wrong when you place an order for pickup. Food is good and it appears they re-decorated. Their spicy crab salad is what keeps me going back. They're one of the only places that have hollandaise (yellow) sauce. read more

This is one of our favorite places to get hibachi! With a family of 6, the prices are great and you get more than your Moneys worth. All of the chefs we've had have been very personable and made it such a fun experience for us. The food is delicious. We usually get hibachi chicken, steak and shrimp. My kids look forward to catching shrimp in their mouth after the chef is done cooking. We also walk out full and satisfied with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Can't comment a whole lot on the sushi however, we order lees Summit rolls each time and they are amazing! Our 12 year old son even enjoys them!
