On 10/16/23 My wife went into Mr. Tattoo for a birthday tattoo. Suppose to get a ¾ sleeve on her arm. Everything started normal, from the return call by the owner Pete, Who has in the past, my wife has had a great interaction and tattoos with. She arrived at the agreed time at 4PM, He was almost 2 1/2 hours late. Was supposed to have the drawing done the night before. Didn't have it done. Had to continue drawing, Not a huge deal. Did NOT start laying ink until 2:20 am 10/17/23. Right before he started he told my wife "Now's the time to take oxy if you got it to help with pain". She of course, Said Absolutely not, She doesn't do drugs at all. He took multiple breaks throughout the course of this, Left her at the store multiple times by herself in the middle of the night, Saying "Hold down the desk, Act like you work here if someone comes in" about 5:45am 10/17/23, There is barley anything done on her arm and During a painful spot on her arm, Pete could tell she was in some pain, He then asked her if she wanted to some some weed, She of course declined again for drugs, He then Said "how about cocaine, We got some of that around here too" She of course declined, At this point she is ready to leave, Barley any of the tattoo is done, The OWNER of the store has offered her drugs multiple times. It comes to being 6am and she tells Pete the owner that she needs to leave, She has been there about 16 hours, She is exhausted. He agrees, My wife then asks how much for what's currently done, He said 300$ Which is absolutely wild due to the amount that was actually done in the time frame she was there. She counter offered with 150 and will come back for the rest at a later time. Before the Appointment, She was very upfront with what she wanted, She gave Pete freedom for design and communicated the exact amount she has to spend - $470. He agreed with everything. So to have a tattoo that is maybe a of the ¾ sleeve and wants to take a majority of the money for pretty much nothing. He agreed to the 150 for the current work and offered her to keep the stencil so that when she comes back in to finish the stencil wouldn't get lost. Now this is where it gets even wilder. Again, He agreed to the 150 for the current work and the stencil, she got out the money and set it on the Tattoo bed, He snatched it off the table and started screaming in her face about how she is only paying him 150$ for 16 hours of work, when in reality it should of not taken anywhere close to 16 hours to do. He even said multiple times at the beginning it would probably take a total of 5-6 hours to draw and lay ink and he was gonna do it for 470$. He starts Calling her a "stupid Bitch" Starts throwing things around the studio and at her. At this point my wife is absolutely terrified, Especially because Pete has mentioned he has guns in the shop for protection. Pete is leaning over the Tattoo bed in her face flipping her off calling her a stupid bitch, Get the fuck out of my shop, She leaves as fast as she can and he is chasing her out of the store. She can hear him behind her. I have contacted the store in hopes that maybe Pete is a partner of the store and i can get my money back. Of course Pete is the sole owner, So there isn't much I can do. But one of the employees asked me what happened, I told him everything my wife told me and he was absolutely speechless. I've talked to other parlors about this also trying to get my wife in to make her tattoo look somewhat complete so she isn't embarrassed to show it, And they all said it sounds like Pete was on some sort of drugs, I also agree. Please don't go here at all, I'm sorry to all the other Artists at the store you have a boss that acts like this. And is going to ruin your income at that location. My sister and I came here when we decided we wanted tattoos one day on a whim. It was recommended by a friend. We went in, showed him (Jimmy) what we wanted and he drew something better up in just a few minutes. The shop was super clean and Jimmy made my first tattooing experience awesome! Came in again just a few days ago and it was just as perfect. Jimmy has done a fantastic job on both of my tattoos, my sisters and my best friends. The guys in the shop are really easygoing and just all around nice. I love the cleanliness of the shop. It's bright and open so you don't feel like you're in a dungeon -like smokey biker bar being tattooed by your sister's boyfriend's half brother's cousin amongst a bunch of Sons of Anarchy look-a-likes. Wanted latte-art tattoo in brown ink (as coffee is brown--not black) Gavin (? Refused--can't make coloured dots. I compromised, as the main idea was *dotted lines* However, this is more like flecked shading! (and badly done at that! where are the value changes?) At least if he would've used brown ink, black dots could've been added for definition and movement but now it's too dark to correct. Also, when i noticed it wasn't turning out, and asked for some clean dotted lines he threw my reference drawing in the corner & barked 'getting there! Gotta build up the values!' the heart shape is deformed, the design is backwards, and it might as well be solid black! So, go here if you want a quick 20 minute thick-black tattoo. If you want something more delicate, done with patience and craftsmanship, go someplace else. read more

I came in for a walk in to get some simple line work tattoos of a cobra head, a pair of butterflies, and a flame. Joel greeted my friend and I with a big smile and great customer service. We then got to mapping out the tattoo placement and he printed out the drawings we gave him. I gave him a few reference pictures and asked him to do them EXACTLY like the references. The line work was awful- it looks like a drunk child did them. He also blew out the ink on my flame and part of my cobra head. I'm so upset about the way they turned out because he was so nice and i was so confident in his abilities because he gave me no reason to doubt him. The only tattoo that was even close to the pictures i provided was the cobra, and even that did not turn out the way i wanted. it is not wide enough and is too tall without adequate detailing and no differentiation between the thickness of the lines. the butterflies are nothing like what we agreed upon and flame is the same. My friends tattoo turned out beautifully... so i'm really confused why mine turned out so awful?? I feel like if you're unable to do the tattoos how your client wants them done, then you either 1. shouldn't be tattooing or 2. should refer them to someone who would be more fit to execute their ideas. read more

This is the only tattoo shop I will go to get any work done. I have been to a few tattoo shops in the Portland Metro area and I am happy to have found one I value. I have gone here for years now, and don't have a need to venture out and try my luck in the hopes of getting something I will like. Every piece of artwork I have received from Mr.Tattoo I am in love with. Sometimes I just come in knowing I want some new ink and Pete will just hook me up with something I fall in love with. I tell everyone I come in contact with to go with to go to Mr.Tattoo. My favorite thing about Mr.Tattoo is that they charge you for the piece not by the hour. I never have to come in hoping my wallet doesn't get raped. Pete is humble as well as the other artists that reside at the shop. I do whole hearted believe that you get what you pay for but some artist's put themselves on a pedestal. I also really enjoy the other artists as well Jimmy, Ellen, and Joel are all really cool and nice to talk to before/during/after the tattoo process. The environment is very chill, they have a pool table and wifi for you as you wait. And I love the food nearby incase previous appointments run late. My grandma even came here to get work done for her 63rd birthday. If your looking to get some work done at least come talk to Pete he's worth checking out and I promise you wont regret it. read more

Me and my friend went it to get tattooed something small. We waited three hours after they told us to come in. My friends tattoo went well. It was her first. Mine on the other hand. He tattooed me too deep. And is not healing correctly. I have 2 tattoos before this one so I was taking care of it correctly. But like I said. He tattooed too deep. Horrible customer service from justin. We had an appointment and showed up for it 30 minutes early. It was a very simple wrost tattoo and it should have only taken 30 minutes... He had us waiting in the lobby for almost an hour after we were scheduled and litwrally made no excuse or apology. He even took the time to take a smoke break and give another customer thier consultation before starting the tattoo on my friend. If not for my friend really wanting this tattoo i would have walked out. She approached the counter and he lazily said he would get to her. 4 minutes later she was given a half assed tattoo of an extremely simple design. My wife and I came here to get a very simple tattoo, we had to wait for awhile when Pete said he'd be with us in 5 minutes, which ended up being 45. We made an appointment for 8:30 that evening and left. Pete called us at 7:50 and said he took a new appointment but would be done no later than than 9:30. We came in 20 minites early and stood at the desk for a long time and were not even acknowledged by any of the 3 artists there. We sat down and waited till 10 and went back to the counter to see when we would be up. He told us he wouldn't be done for at least another hour so I told him we wouldn't be getting any work done. He didn't even apologize. My wife and I have had our fair share of tattoos and have never been anywhere with such bad service and rude artists. The bathroom was also very unsanitary with pubic hairs all over the sink. Worst tattoo parlor I've even walked into. read more

My friend and I have never had a tattoo before and read on Yelp about Mr.Tattoo that it was highly rated. We walked in and didn't realize it was a cash only shop. When we asked where we could get cash the tattoo artist said, uh i don't know there's a place next door. He was not helpful what so ever. He said he was the only person working tonight and he already had someone to tattoo. He was not helpful with any information on when we could get in, how to schedule, or how long a wait it would be. Such poor customer service, I would never spend my money there to receive a tattoo. Being that I've never been tattooed before, I was nervous walking in and did not know what to expect. My husband was wanting to get a tattoo for some time so we walked in to Mr Tattoo on a Saturday. We spoke to a man named Ben at length about a possible custom tattoo. I asked him specifically what his design style was only to be told that he didn't like artists who had a specific style because it was really all about what the customer wants. He didn't outline any total costs up front, or what their standard procedure was, but my husband was comfortable with him. So after we reviewed his portfolio and liked what we saw, my husband gave him $60 to start the design and set up a time the following Saturday to get the work done. We also set up a time that Wed night to go over the design. That Wed night we came in and Ben was in the middle of doing a tattoo on another patron. He didn't have a design for us, and kind of acted like we were bothering him. So we sat down with books again and came up with a more descriptive outline that he said he would draw up for the Saturday appointment. It was to be a dragon with wings, about 6 to 8 inches in diameter to fit on my husband's shoulder. We showed up on Saturday for our appointment and Ben came out with this design that was an entire SLEEVE of a dragon (shoulder to wrist) with no wings. We told him it was too big and he barked back "it can't be done any smaller". So much for "whatever the customer wants". My husband tried to tell him that it wasn't what we had discussed but Ben was focused on how it had to be a sleeve. I finally told my husband if he let this man put that horrid tattoo on his arm I would divorce him. Even though what he drew up for us was NOTHING like we talked about, and 3 to 4 times bigger than what we asked for, Ben refused to refund any of our deposit and said he would reuse the design on someone else. Don't EVER EVER EVER go in to Mr Tattoo!!!! We have since gone to Pussycat Tattoo down the street (on McLoughlin) and had INCREDIBLE experience. We were immediately recognized when we came in, provided a detailed description of what their process was and how their pricing worked, and made to feel like our needs were important. I love my husband's tattoo from them!! If you are looking for custom tattoo work save yourself the headache and travel a little farther south - you won't regret it!!! read more
