This review is about Meganech Tattoos, an artist at this shop. I can't recommend Megan due to extreme disorganization and a lack of respect for clients' time. Despite her talent, the stress of working with her isn't worth it. Examples: - For my last session, she rescheduled me three different times on the day of the appointment. When I showed up for the fourth attempt, she wasn't even at the shop, claiming she put 4 AM in her calendar instead of 4 PM. I had to wait another 45 minutes at the shop for her to get there. At the end of the appointment, we scheduled the next session. Then a few days later, she messaged me to reschedule that session. - I set a clear boundary from day one that I needed to see a design draft a couple of days before an appointment. She agreed to this, yet failed to provide it even 20 hours before my most recent session. - When I checked in to see the design (as previously agreed), she became defensive, citing her "ADHD brain" and "streamlined process" as reasons for the delay. Instead of acknowledging the missed deadline or her history of no-shows, she "fired" me as a client for "not trusting her process." Asking to see a permanent design for your body a day before the appointment is a standard expectation, especially when it was discussed upfront. If you need an artist who honors their word, keeps their schedule, or communicates reliably, look elsewhere. read more

I've used Lucky Malony a few times over the years for my tattoos. They always come out looking great. He does quality work, price is reasonable and the best part was I didn't know exactly what I wanted them to look like ( I knew what I wanted included but the actual visual I wasn't sure about) so I told him the things I wanted to include and he drew up a few options for me to look and see if one spoke to me. So his creativity and artistic vision is something I appreciated. Totally recommend!! read more

My friend was looking for someone to do a botanical tattoo on her arm, and she was not receiving many responses from those who specialized in botanicals in the Portland area. We aren't from the area but we were certain we wanted one done that weekend in Portland. After searching online for a few places that allowed for walk in clients, Anatomy Tattoo came up and we decided to check them out and inquire about timing and availability. We were paired up with JD O'Kelly, who is soft spoken and very friendly, and he agreed to take on her project, and was excited about doing a pretty peony for her. We scheduled an appt for 2 days out before we were leaving, and I was impressed by his demeanor that I decided to get a touch up done of a tattoo I already had. After seeing some ideas, JD sketched out his interpretation, and when we saw it on the day of the appt, it was PERFECT and exactly what she wanted! The final result of the peony was gorgeous! He then worked on my touch up, and he was patient while I hemmed and hawed about the size and placement of some extra stars I wanted to add. He did a great job bringing my 20+ year old tattoo back to life, I love the coloring that he added to mine. JD was friendly and personable throughout the entire experience for both of us. The rates and deposit here are reasonable, and there was no pretentiousness about this place. Everyone there seemed nice and open to walk-in and scheduled appointments. I went to Anatomy this past summer... My zoom consultation was super good and I was very excited to come in and get some work done. Momma Tomma was my artist, not only did I not feel welcomed, I didn't hear a word from her during my entire appointment until it was time to pay. The one thing she said to me was "don't move your head." The worst part about all of this was that she didn't even finish. This was a single session as I was adding more flowers to my current tattoo. As I am looking at her work I have lost ink in multiple area and now have scarring. Super upsetting because she isn't cheap, and not to mention the owner.Won't be going back unfortunately, after this experience I'm finally gaining the courage to find a new artist. read more

I went to Anatomy Tattoo on my birthday. My GF and made the appt. the day before. I was extremely excited! My GF had a different tattoo artist and hers turned out beautifully. My experience was different. Originally, I thought my tattoo was going to turn out great because I was going to have my work completed by the owner. Unfortunately, my tattoo was and is a disgrace. I understand that line work is difficult. I never imagined it would turn out this bad. It's embarrassing to show my tattoo at this point. In addition, the word, "Grace," specifically the A and C are messed up. Anyway, maybe her other work is great. I hope so! I now have an appt. On 6/16 with my ex-boyfriend to fix it. "Hurt So Good" tattoo shop. I should have gone to him in the first place but he is booked out 6 months. I was impatient and now I am paying the price. This shop is like a home to me. I've had the honor of being tattooed by the owner, Tomma, for years now. She has pretty much done, or redone both of my sleeves as well as some art on other areas of my body. I initially went to her to have cover up work done and have been amazed by what she was able to create. You would never know I had anything there before. I love her aesthetic and color work. Tomma says what she means and means what she says. She is a badass Boss Babe and runs her shop fairy and with integrity. From spending numerous hours there, I have become well acquainted with the wonderful staff. So many different personalities with such different talents and aesthetics. They work well as a team with the same goals in mind. It's been awesome to watch the progress and changes Tomma and her team have made to Anatomy over the years. It just gets better every time I'm there. Recently, they did more renovations and added microblading to their services. The room is gorgeous and inviting and Sina did the most incredible job on my patchy eyebrows...or what's left of them after the 90's fad of waxing them down to tiny lines. Besides the convenient location, they offer off street parking and accept all people of all ages and background. They constantly do fundraisers to give back to their community and they raised over $10,000 for the ACLU and thousands for other amazing organizations. She seems to do good line work for her flowers, but does not seem to care or take the time for those pieces she doesn't create. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO OTHER WORK OR POSSIBLY NEED TO TAKE LONGER THAN EXPECTED - YOU SHOULD NOT RUSH THROUGH A TATTOO (because it's not your favorite or to get out of your shop "on time"). This is a cool little shop with a good vibe. My low score has to do with Momma Tomma. I went in with a piece with an odd flow. My first tat was a bow that I had for a couple years. I went to an artist with a good rep that added flowers and ribbons but it still looked weak. I went to another artist who added lilies on my shoulder blade which I still love. I lived with it for about 8 yrs and then I had a lot of extra time and decided to get it reworked into something beautiful. I was assured by Tomma that she could make it look dainty and beautiful. I went in for 6 sessions ranging from 1 hr to 3 hrs. I left a 20% tip each time. I know stupid! All appts but one were at 12:30 and I was the first customer. I had to wait for her numerous times. She told me it had to be a cover up and I panicked when I saw the giant purple flower, Dahlia and blue Hydrangea and told her how I felt and she reassured me again and said that she was going to go back and put in low lights and shading and that the flowers would pop, and yes I went back again for a total of 6 times just knowing that it would all come together in the end! NOT! All the hrs we spent together she barely talked to me, showed no interest in me or anything about me. She was polite but cool. Her mind always seemed somewhere else, not giving me 100%. My third session we took a little break, I went on my phone to Instagram and saw she had posted about 15 minutes before the break while she was working on me!!! MULTITASKING! I'd rather of had 100% putting permanent ink on me! Yes, I still went back. I felt I was into it too far! She didn't have a design for me until the third session after I told her I needed to see what she was going to do next. My fifth session I heard her tell one of the other artists she was going to 'power through the leaves'! When I took the wrapping off the next morning I had blowouts and uneven lines. My last session was scheduled for 3 hrs and she was supposed to finish the leaves and pull everything together. She only spent about 2 hrs. When I took off wrappings the next morning my heart sank! I had to go to yet another artist to fix her work!!!! Just unbelievable! If she had done stellar on the filigree I wouldn't have felt so ill. Good news, I did find someone but still had to pay even more money to fix Tomma's sloppy parts. I paid $1652.55 for tattoo + $385 tip for a total of $2037.55, I should of had a killer tattoo! My new artist another $130 + tip! to fix the filigree, smeared shading around filigree and some leaves. He's going to fix where the three huge flowers meet at a later date. I always went in with a positive attitude because I wanted nothing but for this to be gorgeous and I wanted good energy around the experience. That Tomma let me walk out of HER SHOP with my finished piece really not finished and sloppy areas still blows me away! She then said if I ever wanted to redo another part of the tattoo to give her a call!!!! The pics say everything! I couldn't insert pic's where I wanted so will post original tattoo pic top and bottom , Tomma's 3 large flowers with smears that weren't there before, Tomma's filigree and last fixed filigree with my new artist. read more

I scheduled myself and my girlfriend tattoos the day before we went. Both of us have several tattoos and wanted more line work. My tattoo looks great, espically for someone who has only been tattooing for 1.5 years. I will go back to get some parts touched up. But overall, I would give her 3.5-4 stars. Unfortunately for Anatomy Tattoo, I will not be coming back due to the way the owner, Momma Tomma, treated both of us on top of the horrid tattoo she put permanently (obviously) on my girlfriend. She RUSHED the line work, the strait lines are wobbly, the letters "a" and "c" in "Grace" are blotted and honestly, disgusting. If you are not able to draw a tattoo, or prefer not to on certain part of the body, that is OK. What's NOT ok, is to treat us like we are dirt, say "that will be more difficult than you think", rush through the artwork (she was done in 20 min???), AND PERMANENTLY put something on someone's body they would NEVER want in 1,000,000 years. It is so bad, my girlfriend REFUSES to go back and make MOMMA TOMMA fix the crap tattoo she did. I don't blame her. So what happens? Momma Tomma threatens her to pay full price or she will get the cops involved. Something should happen to Momma Tomma for continually ripping people off and letting them run around with horrible tattoos. DO NOT GO HERE. If you work for Momma T. I recommend you get into another shop. This place will not last long. read more

Our experience with Anatomy Tattoo was at the convention in Philadelphia. My 18 year old was a fan of Lucky Malony; no one else would due for a rose tattoo. He did not disappoint in any way. He made her feel like her getting the tattoo she wanted, was all that mattered. It is stunning work, custom drawn just for her. Lucky and his team worked like a unit, looking out for each other. I chose Anatomy Tattoo because it used to be Painless Steel and I'd had good luck with their shop in Missoula, MT. I was a little disappointed to learn it wasn't Painless anymore, but looked at Ed's portfolio, talked to him about the design I wanted, and felt that he would be a good artist regardless of what the shop was called. So I made my appt and left a crude mock-up of my idea for a tattoo. We talked a little about possible designs, but I was very open to his ideas about how the end product would look as long as it incorporated 3 elements. At my appt he showed me the design. I was so impressed--- I was amazed. His design was so much better looking than I could have imagined. At that point I knew I'd found a good artist and the right one for my tattoo that I'd been wanting/planning for almost a year. I had a 4-hour appt but he ended up only going for 2 hours, which was plenty. He finished the outline of the entire thing and I'll go back for the shading in a week to 10 days. I know it's hard for smaller, less known shops to get customers in a business where word of mouth is the best advertising, so I want people to know that if you go to Anatomy Tattoo you will be very happy with the tattoo you get. One of the most bizarre tattoo experiences of my tattoo getting life. I went to Anatomy while they were doing ACLU benefit tattoos. I made and appointment ahead of time. Not a walk-in thing. When I went in and the person (I don't particularly want to name names) asked about placement, she refused to do it where I wanted it, because apparently only 'heavily tattooed' people get tattoos there. It was cold. I was fully clothed. Jeans, sweater, scarf. Maybe she couldn't see my hands? Fingers? Chest? Neck? Even so...who was she to tell ME where I didn't want MY tattoo? There was no introduction. No handshake. Nothing. We decided on placement, and not one word was said to me the entire time. Not a one. Tons of chatting to other artists that weren't actually working, but nothing with the person paying her (me). The tattoo is decent. It's fine. It's super simple and basic, so I kinda knew it would be. The actual tattoo isn't the point. The point is that to most people the experience of getting the tattoo is just as important as the tattoo itself. It's a memory. An experience in your life that you associate with it. Well, this experience was SUPER weird. I actually learned later on that this person is the owner? Even weirder. Get it together, dude. read more

I met with her for a consult a few weeks before I got the actual tattoo and she was super nice and it helped me feel more comfortable with her before getting my tattoo. I am visiting a friend in Portland, and decided to get some work done as I have not gotten a tattoo in Portland yet. I called and spoke to Ryan Jacob Smith and was able to accommodate me as a walk-in. He was very pleasant and did a great job with the lines and making sure everything was symmetrical. 2 GREAT things about Ryan: 1. Does not charge a "minimum amount" for tattoos and does not go "per hour". My tattoo only took 45 minutes and he charged me $80! Hello $20 tip!! 2. I designed my own tattoo and he was able to print it off after I emailed it to him. Some artists want control over the design and want to do the tattoo their way. Ryan respected the fact that this was my design and did not push me to get something that he wanted to do. VERY valuable in this day and age. I have had some bad experiences with other artists that disagreed with my designs i wanted. Overall, it was a great experience. The work area was very clean and conversation was pleasant. This shop is close to downtown Portland and a 15 minute bus-ride. I highly recommend Ryan and definitely hit this place up if you want to get some ink while in Portland. read more

I went in for a consultation and immediately felt comfortable chatting with Rio that I decided to get the tattoo then and there. I had a single word done on my forearm and Rio helped me figure out what font I wanted and played with it to get it just right. This place and these people are awesome! I made an appointment with Justin Dion for a consultation and he was very honest with me about which of my ideas would best work in his style. When I came back to get the tattoo, he was very communicative, we made some adjustments to the design, and got started. This was my first big(ish) tattoo and Justin was very patient with me. Also, my pain tolerance was lower than I'd thought, so I did have to take a lot of breaks. I let Justin have fun with the colors of my tattoo and I'm glad I did because it turned out BEAUTIFULLY. The next day I developed a rash around my tattoo due to an allergic reaction to the Aquaphor, so I texted Justin and he was very helpful and reassuring. He even checked in with me the next day to see how it was doing! All in all, great work and great service. You can definitely tell that Justin loves what he does. read more

I went to Anatomy Tattoo as an artist whose work I admire and whose work ETHIC seems to me pretty faultless had moved to this shop recently from the far seedier Living Arts in Gresham. From the moment I walked in and scanned the place with my 40+ year old house-wife's critical eye, I was pleased. Pleased with the cleanliness of the space, the asthetics, the people who I met and the general feel of the place. The cherry on this partucliar sundae of course was finding my favorite tattoo artist ,K-Nin. In the past month I have been three times to work on a sleeve and each time have been happy with everything fro the bathroom cleanliness to the staff, to the work being created there. The quality is everywhere my eye falls upon, and nothing I've seen in Oregon can compare to the general atmosphere of friendliness, professionalism and creativity being spawned at this wonderful 'shop'. read more

My daughter who lives in Portland offered to pay for an eyebrow piercing for my Canadian grandson who flew down with his family for a Christmas gathering. He generously allowed his mother, aunt, and me to join him in this adventure. Before the piercing Jared very carefully the hows and whys and what of the piercing so we were all totally prepared. Please refrain from getting a tattoo from jared hunter. He is stubborn and will not listening to what you have to say. I wanted a long feather with details and i ended up with a blunt looking feather that looks like a 5 year old drew it. I also wanted lettering done, i told jared i want this font i brought the paper and showed him exactly what i wanted he said that tattoos wont and cant look like that. What a dissapoinment.
