My friend and I came in on August 4th, right when they opened @noon. She has previously been here for a tattoo and recommended that I come along. I am SO glad that I did. We were both walk-ins and they had a wonderful system of checking in (COVID regulations and all). I brought in my husbands signature in his handwriting, and they just used that paper. They copied it and enlarged it a little bit, but it still was the cute dainty signature I wanted. Overall the communication about it was very clear the entire time. I had my tattoo done by Sam. He was so kind! He kept the conversation going, and answered all my questions. Since I plan on coming back to get another tattoo, and I asked for his recommendation on covering up a stick & poke I had done on myself... lol They used a Saniderm bandage (clear & very sanitary). They also touched up another tattoo that my friend had gotten somewhere else in grey ink, but didn't like the faded look. (She thought she would). But somehow Sam managed to go over it without making the ink look thicker at all, it was still a fine line and dainty. I can't wait to come back. 10/10 recommend. read more

Got my first ever tattoo here done by Saad. I chose to do a 4 1/2 hour session as I wanted a forearm sleeve, and was surprised by how much of a breeze the entire process was. Not only did the piece turn out beautiful (seriously if you're going to get a large piece done- I recommend Saad), he made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I definitely appreciated his patience with me as I was EXTREMELY anxious. I was expecting a terrible time when it came to the healing of it, since it was a lot of ink at once and I didn't know what to expect, but I never had any problems. Matt Shaver is a super talented artist and kind soul. He is quiet and reserved, but so funny once you get to know him. I've had the honor of being tattooed by him for over the last ten years. Being a tattoo artist myself, I am obviously very picky about who tattoos me. He is an exemplary artist with skills that range from Japanese, Old School, highly technical to super cute...he can do it and do it well. My lines and color have lasted and still look great after all these years. He makes me feel comfortable and I look forward to getting more work with him in the future. The shop itself is clean, fun and the counter service is great. No drama here! The energy in this shop is fantastic and everyone seems to work well together. I had the picture in mind, well, technically on my phone, placement in mind, and was totally ready to sit for the next hour or two while needles were repeatedly stabbed into my skin. Sadly, there was no one available to do it that night. I believe it was a Thursday and it was already like 7:30 pm. They had appointments, but I got one for the following night at 8! First of all, the fact that I could get an appointment, the NEXT NIGHT at such an awesome tattoo shop, with the NICEST staff I have ever met; that just floored me. Erick was the one who did my tattoo, and he made sure there was nothing for me to worry about. He and my guests, I guess one would call them, we're cracking jokes left and right, and just talking about the best subjects to get your mind off of the sting of needles. He could always tell when I was about to laugh, and being a full bodied laugher, would pause so I could get it out of my system. Erick made me feel ridiculously comfortable in a place I had only been to once before, with people I had met for the first time. THIS WAS BY FAR, MY BEST TATTOOING EXPERIENCE. I guess I'm not qualified to give a 5-star review to a tattoo parlor as I've had one tattoo for all of four days now. But hey, it was the best tattoo I've ever had, so I'm smacking down all 5. Before going to Pussycat, I dropped in on many of P-town's most reputable tat joints and flipped through a lot of artists' portfolios. Some places were more comfortable than others, some places were too hip to give newbies the time of day. The best artists in our area were booking out two months and I just wanted to get on with it. So a friend of mine who is a walking canvas said to go to Matt at Pussycat, down on McLoughlin. One day while Ms. A and I happened to be down that way, we stopped in. It's a clean, well-lighted place with a friendly boisterous atmosphere and - aside from a couple occasional dweebs waiting in the lobby - great people. Short story, I had my appointment 6 days later and Matt did a fantastic job. And too boot, they played all the best of the Clash while I endured the pain. If I could have requested a soundtrack for my first tat, that would probably be it. Matt's a fairly taciturn fellow, a serious artist. He's a big Texan with a buzz cut, hornrims and a big American car. He has an aversion to Austin and doesn't like getting tattoos (although he has plenty). He might be on his way to being a curmudgeon. These aren't the kind of qualities you're likely to find in a Northeast Portland artist, thus they're refreshing. If you want a more interactive experience you might check in with Gene or Rose, also at Pussycat. But Matt gave me exactly the tat I wanted and got it done in well under the estimate. I got a cheap walk in tattoo here recently, and the saying is very true. You get what you pay for. It's not a terrible tattoo but there is shaky line work, bad shading and overall isn't done right. I still like my tattoo, especially from a few feet back, but up close it really shows it's flaws. I would advise going somewhere else if you want a serious piece of art. read more

The guys here are all so kind and respectful, I feel really safe and comfortable when I'm here which is as important to me as the tattoo work itself. This place is clean, efficient and the artists here are nice. Based on 2 referrals for this shop, I booked an appointment for my second tattoo. Erik was very chill while I was freakishly nervous. This can be firmly blamed on the physiological damage of the first tat experience (7 yrs earlier elsewhere) and an annoying needle phobia which shouldn't connect but it does. He was in tune with keeping up conversation until the anxiety was gone. It came out so well that I came back a month later to have the old one touched up.
