The black milk tea lacked flavor from the black tea or milk. It tastes more like sugar water with boba. I think it's because the brown sugar boba makes any drink super sweet even though I asked for 75% so keep that in mind when ordering. The boba was soft and chewy so that was a plus. Even thought this drink was a fail in my eyes I would come back again to try and different combo. I'm always looking to try something new, so I tried their Potted Milk Tea (which was 6th on their Top 6) with matcha green tea. They use grounded up Oreo to recreate soil and mint to represent a sprouting, "potted" plant. I got it at 75% sweetness, non-dairy creamer, and with small boba and I enjoyed it! My go-to is their jasmine lychee tea with boba and lychee jelly, and my recent favorite is the dalgona coffee with oat milk and boba! My dad and bf really like the taro milk tea :) I usually get my boba less sweet, but the dalgona coffee isn't customizable in sweetness. From a convenience standpoint, I like that Mr. tea has an easy online ordering system and option for curbside pickup. The parking is free at kapiolani, but the stalls are pretty tight. I recently did a curbside pickup order, but also just ended up walking into the store! The workers were cleaning when I arrived so I waited for a little and they pulled my premade drinks out of the fridge! Finally visited this place and though I can't comment on the tea, I ordered the mocha frappaccino 50% sweet with whip cream and chocolate drizzle no toppings and an Oreo macaroon. The drink was good and it was a surprise to supposedly be able to choose the level of sweetness. The macaroon was not too dry and full of flavor, one of the better ones that I've tried yet. The interior of the place is brightly lit and well kept. Both tables and single bar seating are available for patrons, along with a small selection of books and games. This place is still one of my favorite places to come for milk tea and iced tea. Yes, we have lots of other places, but I like it here. The employees are cheerful, friendly, and helpful. Mr Tea is located at the busy intersection of Kapiolani Blvd. and Ward Ave., and the entrance to the parking garage is on Kapiolani. Although parking is free, the stalls are limited, and apparently, somewhat awkward to get to for the less than skilled driver. The struggles are real. I've seen them. The teas here are always on point, and I appreciate that the levels of sweetness for milk teas, can be adjusted to your liking. For a little extra, you can add on toppings too. In the back side of the parking lot toward the ward ave direction there is a door that leads to the shop. Good variety of flavors with lots of add-ins like cereal, matcha jelly, taro pudding, ice cream, coffee jelly, Oreos, boba and more. My favorite it the fruity pebbles w/ ice cream boba and Oreos. Prior to catching a performance by HSO with Makana at the Blaisdell, my wife and I left Ewa two and a half hours before the start of the show so we can get a light meal at Ala Moana. Anyway, we weren't really hungry and just wanted some light snacks before the show. I guess since it was early Friday night, it seemed like they were out of a few things...like their pudding, some sweets...and coffee maker. So yeah, no coffee for us...something we kind of had our heart set on. We adjusted and my wife ordered a mocha drink while I had their honeydew smoothie with boba. We liked how they can adjust the sweetness based on the customer's preference. My wife also ordered salted caramel macarons and I had toasted bagel with cream cheese...need I say the choices were limited? The smoothie was good, but I've had better. The toasted bagel tasted fresh and was actually quite yummy with the cream cheese. The macaron was decent...not quite the "melt in your mouth" macaron we had from Pierre Herme' or Laduree in Paris. Sunday nights can be tricky to find a late night spot to hang out with friends that doesn't entail going to a bar. I'm a big boba lover and always craving for one wherever we go other than ice cream. Mr Tea is prolly the only boba cafe that's open til Midnight. Parking can be tricky here. There's limited space on streets and on its back lot where residential area is. There's also limited seating inside but I'm glad they have tables and chairs outside. I got their Matcha Latte with almond milk and boba which are both $.50 extra ea. Came to this location for the first time and had a good experience. It was later in the evening and there was no line. Inside, the decor of the place wasn't anything eye catching, except for their bookcase with Harry Potter books, Sailor moon manga, and spunky mustache paraphernalia. Do they really want to showcase that? My brother-in-law instantly rejected getting his own cup, but my sister and I decided to stay hopeful. First, the good things: the menu offers various milk teas and fruit teas; secondly, their cups and straws are made of a tougher plastic so everything just felt very sturdy in our hands; and thirdly, the mustaches are adorable. I found a roach in my milk tea from this place !!!! I had drank most of it already and when I shaked it a little, a big roach was moving around inside my milk tea. I had not ordered Boba so the straw was a normal drink straw, it is impossible for it to have gotten in after it was made. I really feel sick just thinking about it. I mustache you a question: Do you like bubble tea? When fellow yelper Grant S. started posting about this new tea place, I thought that maybe it would be just another run-of-the-mill bubble tea shop. But the mustache icon made me think that perhaps it could be a more hipster and trendy place than all the others! On the day of their general opening, I was luckily attending a work meeting in the area, so I made plans to stop by. Little did I know, John N. would beat me there! His tips were helpful for parking, etc., so off I went! I got to meet a few other yelpers over there, since we are all obsessed with the new and trendy. Opening day was a bit crazy, in terms of time of tea reception after order, but since then, they've worked out the kinks! Every single time I've gone, the experience, including ordering and tea reception, has only gotten better and better. Mr. Tea Cafe is now my favorite bubble tea, I think, due to their perfectionism, and their late hours! Woohoo to being open until midnight! They have some awesome flavors of tea, and I absolutely love their add-ons. Not enough places have azuki beans! You can choose your sweetness level, of course, and what goes in your tea. They've been changing some of the add-ons, so I don't want to list them in case they remove the one you were hoping for! If you're lucky, you'll find parking on the bottom floor. I've also done street parking, when needed. They have a restroom, but you must ask at the counter for the key. They may have wifi, but I've never used it. The only negatives I've found: 1. Their cups are not biodegradable or compostable. That would rocket this place to stardom, in mine eyes! 2. Parking can be a hassle and/or confusing in peak hours. That whole building confuses me, parking-wise. 3. During peak times, it gets a tiny bit packed, but never enough that I can't find a seat; just thought I'd mention it. My recommendations are as follows: 1. Try something new and different. 2. When in doubt, get it less sweet. 3. "There's no good milk tea in Hawaii." That's the conclusion my boyfriend reached at the end of his weeklong visit to Hawaii and our boba crawl around the island. If only Mr. Tea opened earlier, a visit here would've surely changed his mind! Coming from the Bay Area, my boyfriend and I had high standards for milk tea that left us unimpressed with the quality found here in my home state. Most of the drinks we tried were too sugary, too powdery, and had weak tea flavor. Already disenchanted by the numerous boba shops that disappointed me, I walked into Mr. Tea with low expectations: something cold to drink. The Oolong Milk Tea satisfied a thirst I never thought I'd quench until I returned to San Francisco. Not only does Mr. Tea use real tea leaves, but the tea is freshly brewed in a machine you can see behind the front counter. Their regular sugar level was the perfect amount to sweeten the drink without masking the tea flavor, which was already prominent from the high quality tea used. The boba was cooked to the right chewiness and softness. They also add a ton to your drink for $0.50. I could only eat about half the boba they gave me and threw the rest away. $5.00 total for my Oolong Milk Tea with boba seems steep, but I always have to remind myself that this is the price I pay for being in Hawaii. Compared to the expensive and disappointing bubble drinks I've had elsewhere, I'm more accepting of paying this amount for a good quality drink. I just wouldn't indulge here too often. Parking is free and is located on the first floor of the structure. There's a door in the parking lot that leads right to Mr. Tea. It's a smaller cozier tea place with about 5-6 tables. The decorations are simple and sweet- I really loved the bookshelf.. And hydro flasks are sold here as well :) I noticed that it was very warm in here as if the a/c was not working, but I suppose it's perfect now that the days have gotten a bit chilly. If I were here on a blazing hot summer day, I would be on the floor. The workers here are friendly and bring your drink directly to you instead of calling your name and having you walk to the counter. There is a stamp card available: buy 9 drinks, get one free! At first I decided on the regular black milk tea with boba: the most basic drink you can get. Because I don't often drink milk tea, it didn't hit the spot for me. When that wasn't enough, I ordered a smoothie mixed with mango and passion fruit with haupia. My, oh my, this was the number one best decision that I've made all week! Why do I feel like Mr Tea's 'moustache bunny' image totally got inspiration from Frank Kozik, creator of the labbit??? Those plushies are my OBSESSION and I own about a gazillion of them...minus 1 star for originality. I do think their whole gentleman-y idea with calling this place MISTER Tea and the moustache on the cups are cute though..... Came on soft-opening day when there was a crowd of people standing in the front. Line wasn't that long, but after we ordered our drinks...people started coming in and it was packed. Definitely wouldn't want to be waiting in line when this place gets busy because I'm pretty sure people would be waiting out the door. Wanted to try their smoothies, but they weren't available on the first day...sad face. So, ended up getting a reg. black tea with boba. The taste isn't as strong as kung-fu, and it's a bit better than tastea... I like it about the same as dragon tea, those are the boba places I frequent anyway. Didn't know they had a stamp card. Over time they did sweeten the teas which I enjoy a lot more. Within the last few months, I noticed some workers put a lot of ice in the tea where half my drink was ice which was disappointing because I paid for milk tea not a cup of ice. This occurred twice so now I always order my drinks with light ice. With all that said I still do enjoy their milk tea, their tapioca is always cooked perfect and they have a good selection of flavors. If you want something unique try their potted milk tea which is milk tea topped with oreo crumbs on top with a little sprig of mint I believe which makes it look like a little potted plant. My favorite to date is the watermelon and oolong milk tea. I also like their macaroons which are supplied by la tour cafe. They have some book and board games on the bookshelf as well and some tables outside for seating. It can get quite chilly at night outside with the breeze so bring a jacket. Mr Tea sounds so proper and it should since he has a mustache! Only proper, well-spoken individuals are allowed to have mustaches in my book. I was lucky enough to snag a drink on opening day and it was not too bad of a wait. I tried the black milk tea boba tea for free and it was so good! It was not overly sweet like many places. Since then, I've stopped by two more times and have tried the matcha tea, azuki beans, and vermicelli. Everything's been so delicious! I really want to try the mango smoothie next time! There are also a variety of macaroons available. While waiting for my drinks, it has been really neat watching what they do. They have a machine that shakes the drink and a machine that sealed a plastic cover on top. Parking can be a bit tough. Mr Tea Cafe shares 5 stalls inside of the 909 Kapiolani building with Green & Vines. Besides this, parking can be found on the street after 6pm or so. I had just ran two and a half miles, and downed a passion iced tea from Starbucks. I was still parched so I ended up yelping a spot. The weird thing for me is that I could not see the signage for this establishment. Maybe because it was 7pm and dark. All I saw was a red light circling the word open, that made me inquisitive as I saw water and rock stars offered by the counter. I knew there was a vegetarian raw eatery on the corner. I just thought it stretched across. I entered and looked at the menu. All I wanted was a fruity ice tea that has not been pre-made with sugar. There was options of various syrups to pick from to mix into milk teas and smoothies. As for ice teas there was only a few ranging from, jasmine, oolong, black, and winter melon. I had asked if it was possible to order the white peach oolong cold. Unfortunately it was not. Darn. They only made it hot. I was then informed that I was able to sweeten up my ice tea with their peach syrup. Don't get me wrong, I love being adventurous sweetening up my drinks and adding mochi. But, tonight I just wanted natural fruit tea lol. Anywho, I ended up with a regular ice jasmine with truvia. It was refreshing. I love the packaging of the mustache. It's very cute. I went to Mr. Tea Café (MTC) twice within the last month - once with the boyfriend and once with a good friend. The BF and I actually stumbled upon this cute café by accident. We had dinner at Doraku Sushi and were enjoying a peaceful evening stroll--and ironically, we had planned to get boba later that night--but we came across of MTC and I was drawn to it immediately because of the logo. It was simplistic and intriguing at the same time, and when we looked through the glass windows, we saw that they did, indeed, carry boba. The menu here isn't as extensive as it is at other boba shops, but there was still plenty to choose from (aka, I still needed to think about my selection). This is a great spot if you're in the mood for traditional Taiwanese tea, but they also carry iced tea, smoothies and hot teas, as well as an assortment of bakery items. During my first trip here, they didn't feature too many macaron flavors (guess they were running out because it was already Saturday evening), but potential flavors include chocolate, coffee, red velvet, cookies and cream and cinnamon bun (those are all the ones that I know I want to try). At $2.25 for one macaron, it seemed a little pricy, though, so the BF and I just settled for boba that day. But it's good to know that MTC also features different sandwiches in case you want a more substantial meal. I loved the feel of this café because it was well lit and there were a few tables, and the atmosphere itself seemed calm and pleasant. When I went with the boyfriend, we sat at the counter (facing the sidewalk) and were able to enjoy our drinks and watch the cars rushing down Kapiolani. When I went with my friend later on a Friday afternoon, the café was definitely crowded--we got the last available table on the inside--and there was a steady stream of customers going in and out. I was just glad we were able to sit inside because it was so muggy outside. Note: Definitely ask for that loyalty card, because you get that 10th drink free! Also, I like the ordering system at this café because you can adjust the sweetness of your tea by percentage; ideal if you like your milk tea less sweet (like the boyfriend) or on the sweeter side (like me). Parking: You can park on the street, but there is limited parking in the building that the café is in. However, the stalls are pretty tight and I was really fortunate to even get a parking. The customer stalls are only on the first level; you can't park on the second level because that's for residents and guests. Here's what we got during both of my trips to MTC so far. "Guava Smoothie": I think this may have been a special for the day, because I didn't see it on the regular menu later (unless the boyfriend ordered passionfruit and I wasn't paying attention). He got this smoothie with boba, and I actually really liked the taste of it. I thought the guava flavor was light and refreshing, and the boba was soft and chewy, but not too chewy for my liking. "Chocolate Milk Tea": I often go for mocha or chocolate when it comes to mil tea, so this choice was right up my alley. It reminded me of a colder version of hot chocolate--more like chocolate milk, the boyfriend said--but it wasn't as sweet as it could have been (compared to other boba shops that I went to). I ordered a regular size sans the boba, since I just wanted something refreshing to drink. The boyfriend actually liked this chocolaty option because it wasn't overly sweet, but it had just enough flavor to remind you that you did order something chocolate. "Peanut Milk Tea": I gave myself credit for trying something new from here, but I'm never getting this flavor again. I think I just didn't like it because of my own misconception of what the drink would taste like. I love peanut butter and the staff member told me that this drink was really creamy, so I assumed it would taste like creamy peanut butter (silky, smooth, etc.). But, when I got the drink, it just tasted strongly of peanut ... I definitely didn't have the same experience as enjoying a peanut butter spread. For those who like that slightly sweet, roasted peanut taste, you'll like this drink. I wasn't really a fan, but I did branch out of my comfort zone to explore some of the other options on the menu. read more

Grabbed a milk tea with boba after a doctor's visit at Straub and before a massage appointment down on Ward. (I didn't have a car so I walked and it was pretty convenient). If I had my car, I wouldn't bother getting parking and walking over. The guy behind the register wasn't the friendliest or the most helpful. The ingredients were all powered stuff and I wasn't too keen on that (I'm totally spoiled by Shaka Shaka and their fresh ingredients). But I had been wanting to try this place since it opened and everyone raved about it on Yelp. I got it 50% sweet and good thing I got the smaller size because it was not all that. There was too much ice, the boba did not have a sweetness to it (how Taiwanese boba is suppose to be) and the milk tea was bland, I couldn't really taste any tea flavor. It was just watered down milky stuff. My aunt makes better boba milk tea at home. Well, one boba place off my boba list. Kung Fu Tea is next... but I think I may just stick to Shaka Shaka especially since there's one in town now. read more

I love coming here every time I'm home. The parking sucks sometimes when it's busy but today it was empty. I always get the jasmine milk tea with 25% sweetness. Just enough to get a good taste of the tea with sugar but not too sweet. I don't like to get any toppings in my drink but they have a good selection of them especially the different flavors of jelly. Walk in and it's very trendy and modern... and I love the exposed brick motif. Great service and appreciate that they explained to me that I could select the level of sweetness, and answered my questions on types of drinks (ie: what the potted milk tea was?). Like other yelpers have described... you order your choice of milk tea and can have it "potted" - topped with crushed oreo and a mint leaf - really cute looking. Couldn't resist the level of cuteness so... I got the matcha milk tea, half sweet, potted. It was tasty but pricey. Got some macarons - they were ok too.
