I am obsessed with a Vanilla milk tea from a different place (not gonna say where bc that's rude) but I already knew by the color it wasn't going to be the same. This Vanilla looked identical to milk color lol the other was more tannish. Anyways, the flavor was okay. It actually reminded me of my protein powder I drink which was really weird to me. Also looks identical in color to my vanilla protein lol. The actual boba was a little too hard for my liking too. I have tried Mr. Tea at 3 different locations now and I am starting to think Mr. Tea might not be for me. I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it. At this location on that specific visit, I just felt like my drink didn't have enough flavor. The macarons were fine. I think I'm not really a macaron fan either. The price for the tea was decent. I feel like I tried to give Mr. Tea a fair shot and went to different locations and tried it more than once, but I'm good now. Besides, there isn't a Mr. Tea location anywhere near me so that's mostly why I probably won't be back. BTW parking for this location isn't really convenient... This review is purely on their brown sugar milk tea. I only came here one other time when they were by Bloomingdales where Shabuya is now, so it's been maybe 4 or so years since I tried Mr. Tea. I also can't remember what drink I got the first time. They don't normally sell their brown sugar milk tea. Apparently it's a limited time only drink that they bring back once every so while. It just so happened they brought it back while I'm on my brown sugar milk tea mission, so I was happy that I could try yet another place. My boyfriend and I just so happened to be in the area, so I called first to make sure they have the drink because, on their website, it said that they only have limited quantities and can sell out. I had totally forgotten that they moved downstairs so I made my boyfriend drive to the parking lot where the old location used to be, sat there confused for a good while, realized that they moved, and then drove down to the bottom level where they are located by Ross. I came here before any of the new restrictions were put into place. There was a small line, but it wasn't crowded. I did like the interior of the place as it's really clean and they have a shelf on the side with books and other trinkets. They have a plastic barrier between the register and the customer and the barrier has one of those microphones that typically only movie theaters have, so I also thought that was pretty neat. I ordered the brown sugar milk tea with brown sugar boba with 100% sweetness as I normally do. They don't take your name or give you a number, so they just call out the drink, which could get a little confusing if someone else ordered the same thing as you. It didn't take very long for my order, probably a couple of minutes, so I was happy about that. As soon as I drank the drink, I was hit in the face with just sugar. I mean I have a sweet tooth and I love sweet things, but this was cloyingly sweet. I couldn't taste any tea flavor whatsoever and it really needed some bitterness to cut the sweetness. I drank maybe 4 sips of the drink and I just couldn't drink anymore. I ended up throwing it away, which I was sad about because I hate to waste the drink. The boba itself was pretty good, so that was a relief, but it's a shame I couldn't fully enjoy it because the drink was just not good at all. Next time, if I were to order this drink again, I would definitely get a lower sweetness level and/or regular boba instead of their brown sugar boba. read more

What can I say, despite that they have an adorable cactus friend on the counter, or the fact that they have Mustaches on their cups, Mr. Tea Cafe is definitely a place to love. The interior has a mainstream hipster vibe, with their stone walls, artsy decoration, and chalkboard menu. So this definitely draws in a more younger crowd. Parking on the other hand can be a hit or miss, depending on how busy it gets. Thankfully of all the times I've been here, I would find parking. I've been here multiple times, and of those times I've only ordered their Potted Milk Tea, Lychee Smoothie, Ham and Cheese sandwich, and their Macaroons. I'm not really a Milk Tea fan, unless I'm really craving it. Their Potted Milk Tea is quite original. Atop a regular milk tea is a bed of crushed up oreo cookies with a nice mint leaf on top. I enjoyed it, and will get it again when I want something out of the ordinary. :D The Lychee Smoothie at 25% sugar is always my go to when I come here. Its always refreshing, and theres never really a pocket of just blended ice, the lychee flavor lingers through that whole drink! :D The Ham and Cheese sandwich, Is a little sad, Its a regular sandwich you would get at convenient stores wish they would up their food menu just a tad bit, maybe have it warmed up (have a warmer machine?), but hey who comes to a milk tea shop for their food? Yes, yet another tea shop in Honolulu and Mr. Tea Café is definitely a contender for the best tea joint. I had the pleasure of having a free drink from Mr. Tea at a Yelp event last year. They didn't provide samples-they served their full-sized drinks! I loved the variety they had available and knew it was only a portion of their menu. The employees that were at the Yelp event were really friendly and approachable. They have a prime location on the corner of Kapiolani Blvd. and Ward Ave and they have free parking in the 909 Kapiolani building structure. The tea joint is clean, fresh and well-decorated. They have art on their walls and a huge bookshelf against one of their walls with books, Hydro Flasks and art. One of the first things I noticed, of course, was the pastry display case and the macarons. They serve a wide variety of brightly colored French macarons and the sizes are very generous, in fact, they're the largest macarons I've seen on the market yet. In addition to their macarons, they have madeleines, cheesecake and sandwiches. I love that they have custard and haupia as an add-in to their tea in addition to the conventional boba and jelly. You can also ask for soy milk in place of regular milk.They also offer a stamp card: buy 9 and get the 10th drink free. Situated on the corner of ward and Kapiolani, parking entrance is off of waimanu street there's a sign look for the mustache. Lucky I came early (before noon) because by the time we left the place was packed and the orders to be fulfilled were stacking up. It looked like only one guy (the owner) was making the drinks. I was a little puzzled as to why they didn't write customer's names on the cups. As the orders were being fulfilled and called out, there was some confusion as to who's order it was. As a HUGE MATCHA (Japanese green tea) fan, when I saw a pic of this, I knew I had to come back soon to try it. So when I received a text from a fellow Yelpster asking where to come for dessert, I replied several suggestions and one that included Mr. Tea Cafe. However, when consensus decided Frostcity near University, I was bummed. So while eating my MATCHA snow ice at Frostcity it somewhat satisfied my MATCHA craving but I still was NOT happy! So after we finished our dessert, I kept on chanting "Mr. Tea Cafe, Mr. Tea Cafe.......) and the next thing you know a group of 5 headed over to Mr. Tea Cafe (but I made a pit stop to Da Spot for some yummy Moroccan chicken!). We arrived shortly before 8pm and compared to my previous experience on opening day when it was PACKED as they offered a free small black tea milk tea with boba, there were about 8 peeps excluding our group already there with their drinks. I didn't have to think 2x what to order: MATCHA milk tea! On opening day my Yelp friend Amara E. ordered custard pudding as a topping and it looked really yummy so I added that as well. Because it was humid I opted for a large drink. Regardless the female clerk couldn't spell my first name, I was very pleased that they now write names on the cup when you order your drink. Because we were chatting away I don't recall how long it took for our drinks but the next thing I know it there was a bit of confusion as they called out a name but there was no response from anyone! I looked up and saw a large cup of green drink so I stood up. George, the owner of this joint, showed me the name and I started to laugh as the female clerk wrote "Pal" instead of "Paul"!!! I got my drink so it's all good! Before taking my first sip I offered my drink to my friends as they wanted to try. Consensus was thumbs up so I really had high expectations. The MATCHA flavor was not subtle or bold but it was there. Kinda wished it was a bit stronger for my taste. The disappointment came with the custard pudding. When I finished my drink it was at the bottom in a large clump. It was very soft so you could have consumed it with the large straw but most of it ended at the bottom. I opened my cup and ate some by itself and this is where I docked a star - - it tasted like the generic/instant custard pudding I had while living in Japan which I am NOT fond of. I'm not saying it's bad but it's just not to my liking. As we were sitting down having a good time I saw a lady walk with a cup that had an interesting topping - - kinda looked like a worm that wiggled in the cup so I asked the female clerk what it was. She told me "VERMICELLI" and my response was "Whaaaaaaatttt?" In disbelief I looked up and did see it but their sign has it spelled incorrectly of "VERMECELLI". The next thing I know the female clerk puts some in a cup for us to sample and it did look like worms! But who cares how it looks because it was YUMMY! Had a subtle sweet taste to it and it was like eating a very fat piece of LONG RICE that is sooooo GELATINOUS. You gotta get this in your drink peeps! One of my friends also ordered the MATCHA with boba but George came out and suggested to him to add AZUKI beans to his drink. George never had it before until one day he was asked to try it and his comment was "It tasted just like eating shaved ice!" I never did get a chance to try it so the next time I come here I'm having that for sure! But the black tea milk tea is also yummy. Decisions, decisions............... Another drink I want to try is their jasmine tea milk tea. 3 girls who sat on our left had 3 drinks and a cup was more lighter in color than the others which intrigued our interest. Because I have NO SHAME I took the liberty of asking what that was and she told us jasmine tea. I entered the free, covered parking garage from Kapiolani, heading Diamond Head on the right side. You can enter the cafe from the garage through the marked door, or walk outside and around to the other glass door on the Ward Avenue side. The small, clean interior has moveable tables and chairs to accommodate the size of your group. There's good lighting and air conditioning to beat this summer heat! The cute rabbit with a mustache and the Disney artwork decorate the walls. I had the free Black Tea with boba on the first day; Jasmine Green Milk Tea on the 2nd day; and the Oolong Milk Tea on the 3rd Day. They also offer delivery (free if within a certain radius and minimum drink order) and are on UberEats. I've never had any issues with them and my drinks are always tasty. I like the Iced Roasted Oolong Milk Tea, 25% Sweet, with a Jelly or Aloe or Pudding. It has a nice savory roasted flavor and is lightly sweet, with more sweetness also coming from the toppings. There are a handful of customer parking stalls on the ground floor of the Nine-O-Nine building, plan to get yours to go, or if you are lucky you'll score one of the few tables. This is the mustache cup that has been popping up on my IG lately! I tried the milk tea with matcha here, with boba. Decent milk tea, not the best I've ever had, though it's really hard to compete with mainland/LA milk tea in Hawaii. The boba was good, chewy and tasty. Seeing and hearing all these great reviews of this boba shop in the very condo building my two friends lived in, I told myself I need to try their boba drinks. Well that didn't happen until last weekend, first Saturday of April 2016. This place been opened since late 2014. I'm a late foodie yelper to this business, but at least I finally stepped inside this place. The parking stalls are really tight. Pray you swing it like a champion before and after you leave the lot. Props to my bf who parks the car like a pro as we made our entrance into the cute boba shop. MR. TEA sign on the white door, We're open. Also they are hiring more staff in case you looking for a job wink wink you college students who need money. Location is great since they are along Kapiolani Blvd so all the main buses like A and 3 come along there. I was surprised that they don't have much seats for hanging out. There were only two tables and bar seating for three. Majority of people buy and pick up to go. The prices are reasonable, about the same as Taste tea, and Tea time Taiwan, and Bee's dessert house. I had a voucher card from my bf so I picked the large jasmine tea with custard 50% sweetness. Don't want to overload the sugar rush. I liked it that it was not too sweet or watered down. I want to try their other tea drinks with different toppings. I noticed that about 7pm this shop get really busy especially the weekends. The teas are all ready to be served even before I order, the countless times I've visited Mr. Tea. Don't get me wrong, I love Mr. Tea, especially this particular location that stays open until midnight! Located just across the Blaisdell and on the same block as my favorite Happy Hour sushi, Doraku, and another restaurant, Chingu! Down the street is one of my favorite sushi restaurants, Yanagi! I obsessively fill my Mr. Tea stamp card here or at the Ala Moana (second largest) or Kaka'ako (smallest, without macarons) location. I just can't steer away from Mr. Tea's Earl Grey milk tea with boba and 75% sweetness! Street parking and limited garage parking only at the ground level of Nine-Oh-Nine are available. If you're a local or have lived on island for awhile, you know how messy Kapiolani can get. A large milk tea with boba comes out to be about $5, but they offer a stamp card and have limited free parking, sooo ehhh. The parking stalls are a little slim though. I'm not really all that into the whole mustache thing. So that definitely doesn't make me want to come back. The cashier we had was excellent, however, unlike other places, they don't ask how sweet you want your drink. When I was younger, and my metabolism was better able to handle eating all of those boba, I did not like milk tea or boba drinks. At all. The flavor...the creamyness...the chewiness...nothing was appealing. Then, I tried milk tea with boba as an adult. And I was hooked! Mr. Tea has a great assortment of teas to choose from, but I stick with the classic black tea. You can't go wrong with a classic flavor. I tried the tea with less sweet (50%), but found that it wasn't sweet enough, so I now get it at 100% sweet. I am still not a big fan of milk, so I don't actually get milk tea, just sweetened tea with boba. The boba is amazing - prepared well so that it has that great chewy texture that boba fans love. I also tried their coffee jello, but the jello wasn't as firm or chewy as I was hoping it would be (I really want that chewy texture with the drink). Thus, I stick with their boba. I also tried the Winter melon with ice cream due to a friends' recommendation (actually she purchased it for me)...and I loved it! It's got a very distinct flavor that is refreshing and light. There's a creamy taste, but it works so well with the flavor because it's very reminiscent of a Melona bar. What really makes this place stand out is their brand. I love their mustache logo (they sell hydroflasks that has been branded with their logo; this is on my wish list), as well as their bookshelf filled with books of a wide variety of classic titles. It's a great place to go to grab a study buddy and just hit the books while enjoying a your favorite drink. Plus, they offer La Tour Café's macarons! Soft, chewy macarons AND boba drinks! Their regular milk tea (iced) is just as good This place gets 5 stars because: 1. Space is modernized 2. Tea has good flavor and isn't watered down 3. Sugar options available 4. Tons of ways to customize add ons to your drinks including haupia and ice cream 5. Rewards program 6. Nice staff 7. Deliciously chewy sweet boba balls 8. Menu isn't confusing given all the options 9. I moustache you a question. Shave it for later cuz I wanna get my tea first. Saw the news about this place opening up on Friday. It was pretty busy but we did get our tea. I ordered the matcha milk tea with boba. (less sugar and less ice) Didn't know you can do that. It wasn't too sweet or too powdery like other matcha tea. It had a bitter taste...seems like real tea. Around $3.50 without tax. Toppings additional $0.50. I really want to try the chia seeds, but it wasn't offered at the opening. Small shop, but cute logo: moustache bunny. Maybe 4 tables or so. My usual drink is jasmine milk tea half sugar but I'm also liking their smoothies. My kids love their mango, lychee, kiwi smoothie. They're not overly sweet & you can also adjust the sweet level. I love it! I also like their healthy topping choices like aloe and Chia seeds. Aloe tastes very clean but slightly crunchy. I thought they only had 4 parking stalls on the first floor but they have total of 10ish parking stalls. That totally works for me. Workers are always nice and polite. Oh oh oh I'm excited about this. I went yesterday and they have vermicelli topping again along with mini boba, and aloe! They have some new smoothies too like honeydew but I heard it was watery. I saw that they had hyrdoflask with their mustache logo engraved on it so guess what? I BOUGHT ONE in pink 32 oz. Oh my implusive buy but its so adorable!!! =) If only had that White I would have gotten it but Pink was my 2nd choice. read more

Cute spot!! Friendly staff and easy parking right in the back. The parking is a little hidden. If your coming from China town it's the first driveway after the shop on the right. It's also good for cracking the books open or catching up on email.. they also have a shelf of games and books. Great for a first date. They have coke in the bottle too, for all you coca-cola bottle fans. They also have a nice variety of macaroons. Definitely one of my go to spots. read more

Can't really complain about this place. First of all, praise Mr. Tea for being open until midnight. It's a small place but I really do think there are a lot of seats, both inside and out, for sitting and chatting with friends. It's not too loud, pretty cool inside (temperature wise), and an overall clean place. They even have a bathroom outside, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary water. Three very important things in my book. Every time I've been there, the service has been wonderful. I think this is what really pushed me for the five star review, which I'm always happy to do when the staff has treated me well. The staff is usually made up of 3-4 teens, but all very friendly with great manners. What I enjoy most is seeing them chat and joke around with each other, which really makes me feel like they're enjoying what they're doing. They're also pretty great when there's a line. Never any slacking there. As for the milk tea, the regular milk tea is as good as it gets. I love their taro milk tea. Probably my favorite thing to order. It's not too sweet, but has great flavor. The matcha doesn't pack as much of a flavor punch as I would like, but it's still pretty good. Mr. Tea also uses quality ingredients and powders for their milk tea, which I am thankful for. I have yet to try their thai tea, but that's on my list for next time! The only thing that sucks is the parking, because there's barely any available. However you can park by Ross & Starbucks down the street and walk to Mr. Tea in three or four minutes. You should be walking that milk tea off anyways! Friendly service! We were confused about the parking situation and the staff who answered the phone when I called was very helpful. She even asked us where our current location was and gave us directions from there. The parking is in the same building. It's free and there are Mr. Tea signs marking the parking. When we got there, the staff were very welcoming and our drinks came out quickly. The pearls were cooked perfectly! Not too hard but not too mushy...amazing texture. All of these bubble tea places started popping up in Hawai'i after I left to live on the mainland so I was a bit skeptical about their quality compared to places such as Los Angeles. While it's not exactly on par with tea houses in LA, it was definitely not disappointing and exceeded my expectations! There are bathrooms outside but you need a code from the staff to access them. I'll be sure to come back, especially knowing that they have free parking! read more

The black milk tea lacked flavor from the black tea or milk. It tastes more like sugar water with boba. I think it's because the brown sugar boba makes any drink super sweet even though I asked for 75% so keep that in mind when ordering. The boba was soft and chewy so that was a plus. Even thought this drink was a fail in my eyes I would come back again to try and different combo. The interior was super cute and inviting and if covid didn't exist I would deffinetly want to sit down, enjoy my drink, and read some manga. read more

About time I update my review. Originally wrote my first review about their delivery service. Now to update you on my actual experience. One word, HOOKED! I am hooked on Mr. Tea! It's now on my top go-to places for milk tea. One, because it has a cute mustache on the cup, and two, because you can choose your sweetness level (25%-100%). Although, I do like my drinks at a 75% sweetness. I've never tried any other flavors besides their regular black milk tea and matcha. I'm not that daring. Surely not after a friend got sweet potato with 50% sweetness. It tasted like french fries. Then again, that was a long time ago, and I don't think I've ever recently seen it on the menu. It's been a hot minute since I've been here but every time I visit this location they make the drinks so quick and the great thing about Mr. Tea boba is that it's not too sweet. When I order my milk tea without ice the cups are always filled to the top with the drink, but this time it wasn't as you can see from the photos both ways.
