After witnessing a group of women spill a perfectly made bubble tea, made me truly realize the full potential of an amazing the staff here at Mr. Tea Cafe. Personally, being a former worker at a fast food restaurant, hearing the grueling sound of a spilt drink would make me annoyed beyond words. But the staff at Mr. Tea Cafe did no such thing! Meh. This review may be oudated since I went the couple weeks after this place opened. They were slow. There were 3 people in the back, but yet only 1 out of the 3 was making all the drinks. There was one customer ahead of me and that almost took 10 -15 minutes to make her drink. Then, I would have to wait another 10 minutes for my own drink. If a place isn't busy, I usually expect less than 5 minutes for my drink. I understand it if it was busy, but it was practically empty w/ the exception of one other customer and myself. Maybe I'm just high-strung & have high expectations. I overheard the owner saying he didn't hire enough staff. Milk tea wasn't all that great anyway. I've had better. I will have to go back again considering everyone here raves about this place. I'm assuming it has improved significantly. There are such thing as second chances. I used to love this place when it first opened. Always came and ordered oolong because it had the best tea taste. Within the past 8 orders, all of my milk tea orders have tasted way too much like milk/cream and not like tea. And that's with half sweetened! If you like super sweet drinks that don't actually taste like tea, then this is the place for you. On the bright side: their macaroons are good. But it's from La Tour anyway, so you could always get those there. EDIT: Recently visited Mr. Tea again, ordering the sweet potato milk tea 25% sweetened. When I asked the girl taking my order if she would consider this a naturally sweet taste similar to the wintermelon, she replied no, the sweet potato milk tea is actually not sweet at all. Based on past encounters with the other milk tea's here, I was wary and still ordered 25% sweetened. Yet, once again, still super sweet. I was also very surprised by the texture of the sweet potato milk tea, as it's somewhat of a grainy feel. Wish I'd been told that or something beforehand, as no other milk tea I've tried has had that grainy texture. I'm not sure if there's an option to actually taste drinks here because in my ~20 visits, I have yet to be asked even once. However, I've decided to give 3 stars instead of 2 because the regular tea's (not milk) 25% sweetened with aloe is delicious, healthy, and light. Would definitely recommend those. The location is also extremely convenient for me, as well as the times (closing until midnight! what a plus). But ordering was a little bit of an ordeal. Tried a black milk tea with boba, and a plain jasmine green milk tea. Right now the only non-dairy option is almond milk. No coconut or soy (note: a few weeks later I believe they started offering soy as an option) I personally like boba with a little sweetness. I found the boba from here to be of good consistency, but overall I would prefer it to be a bit sweeter because it was just a tasteless chewy ball. The teas were ok. Tasted a bit weak. I preferred the jasmine green over the black but we weren't given any preference over sweetness level of our tea, like other places. The only perk is that they are open a bit later than their competitors. But parking sucks so it kind of negates that. read more

It's no secret that there have been a influx of milk tea places, which is A-OK with me since I love me some milk tea. Mr. Tea Cafe does a lot of things well, and it shows in their product. It's said that the ingredients are directly imported and are carefully screened before use to ensure the highest quality. And as much as I appreciate the care in detail and quality, it still has to taste good and fortunately they do. Customization is also a key component in their business model, and you can order your tea pretty much any way you can imagine. The only head-scratcher, at least to me, is the inclusion of vermicelli noodles. Now maybe it's just me, but I can safely say that at no point in my life have I ever though, " You know what would make my tea even better? Noodles!" But hey, to each their own. The La Tour Cafe macarons they sell is also a real treat. I personally always go for strawberry, but they have a whole assortment of flavors available every day. And although I don't know if I can definitively say that their milk teas are better than the competition, I can without hesitation say that their packaging is by far my favorite. The hipster mustache logo is easily recognizable and appealing. The location might not be the most convenient or "stand-out"-able, but it's not a deal-breaker by any means. The free WiFi is a great perk for stopping by, and it's a great study/meeting area for a group of friends to use...just as long as that group gets their at an opportune time and isn't too large because the space is quite small. Like I ordered a matcha and they gave me SOO much boba It was too much but I guess it could've just been the last of their boba since they were about to close . This has to be one of my top favorite milk tea places to go to on the island! I usually come here at night with a few friends, drink some delicious milk tea, and talk story! My friends and I like to try different flavors when we are here! I personally love coming here because the workers are so nice! The milk tea comes quick and is always good! The taro coconut with the vanilla ice cream is my personal favorite, but honeydew is really good too! This place is also great to get work done, and study. With their hours being until midnight, it allows you to get milk tea any time! The price point is college student friendly, and you can mix flavors to your enjoyment! I tried their mango smoothie on this hot summer day and it was refreshing and sweet. I noticed they also had macaroons so I had to give them a try! Blueberry cheesecake macaroon - you can definitely taste the blueberry...but there was this weird after taste and I'm not sure if I like it or not. Who likes mustaches? Mr. Tea, apparently. Located in the 909 building on the corner of kapiolani blvd and ward ave, Mr. Tea hides from anyone who isn't looking for it (and even a few of us who are!). The establishment is small with about half a dozen two- to four- person tables. They offer your typical milk teas, jasmine tea, etc. etc.. with boba, pudding, jellies.. the usual! I went with milk tea with boba and pudding. They have an option to do half and half (half boba, half pudding for me) so I went with that but it was still A LOT. The milk tea was pretty average, in my opinion and the boba had kind of a funny taste that I can't quite put my finger on.. the consistency was good though, with just the right amount of chewiness. There is a glass case with macaroons next to the register. The macaroons are from La Tour Cafe (confirmed, because I thought they looked familiar) so you know they're good! They are a little pricier than at La Tour and the selection is a little more limited--as to be expected--but I guess you can save yourself the drive if you pick up here. One thing I really liked: parking is free in the 909 structure for customers.. and they have a stamp card! Buy 9 drinks and you get the 10th for free. I really like stamp cards. Finally got to try this place out today and it was a bit disappointing because I had heard so many great things about it. Its a cute little place with great artwork, but that was about it. The taro tea had an aftertaste that was a bit odd. It didn't bother me so much as the service my boyfriend and I got, though. The guy who took our order was a bit rude and standoffish - actions speak louder than words (because he was speaking so quietly I could barely even hear him) - it left a terrible impression. Stumbled upon this cafe passing the chiropractic centre and decided to give them a try - I'm always excited when I see new dessert and drink places open. They had $1 milk teas on their first day of open. Located in the Nine0Nine Kapiolani building, there was ample parking when we arrived. The lot leads to the back doors of the Family Chiropractic Centre and Green Vines, and to Mr. Tea Cafe. Milk Tea: I had the jasmine green milk tea with boba, and they were slightly firm and chewy, the way I love it! Have yet to try with custard pudding, and they also have vermicelli, which is interesting. Atmosphere: very bright little cafe, with a couple tables for couples or groups. Cute Alice in Wonderland rabbit painting, as well as cartoons and a gorilla. Customer Service: friendly and brought our drinks to the table rather than yelling out our names. Overall, with all these new milk tea places opening, the parking is a lot more easy to find compared to the other joints. Trendy little place with yummy desserts as well. I have learned that when people are passionate about something, they are more likely to be successful. Once you taste the teas at Mr. Tea Café, you can tell that the owners are very passionate about their business. Everything about this place feels high quality. Definitely a step above the more common milk tea shops. And, the best part, is that prices are reasonable and what you would expect to pay for milk tea. I asked them to make me something without dairy. They made a Hibiscus tea with chia seeds. It was probably one of the most refreshing drinks that I've ever tasted. Great flavor. It makes me want to go back and try everything else on the menu. So i came here again to try something new. I got the large mango "smoothie"; more like a slush. The boba was filled 1/2 of the cup and the slush on top. The slush part was more like a size small. my seal broke so i asked them to reseal it and they put it into another cup and during the process, spilled some on the counter. But the good thing was that when they gave it back they said that if i wanted, they could give me a new one. So service was good. My friend also had a bad drink. Just filled up my first stamp card not too long ago! If that hasn't convinced ya already, read on. This is how my typical day goes nowadays: Go to school. Go to work. Go to gym. Go eat. Go to Mr. Tea at around 9pm. Order something. Settle down at a table, plug in electronics. Start working/studying. Have my drink personally delivered to my table regardless of how busy it is! Continue working/studying with the A/C, free wifi, clean environment and bathroom, water cups, all that jazz until around midnight when I'm forced to head home and repeat. I tend to go around 9pm on weekdays, and at that time there's pretty much always at least one table open for me to plug my electronics in and get stuff done (almost every single table is right next to a wall outlet!). The art and interior design of it all makes this the perfect place to study; I tend to stay focused here than most places including the library actually. Whether I'm being left-minded doing engineering/programming work or being right-minded and whipping up some graphic design, I just can't go wrong with this place. I've even applied for a full-time job on this very website Yelp at Mr. Tea : ) Hope things work out! If the personal table delivery didn't say so already, the staff simply exudes friendliness the entire time that I'm there. Even when I stay for 3-4 hours and leave at midnight (pretty much every other place closes too early for me to get work done, so another bonus!), everyone's cheery enough to go "have a good night!" every single time. Even from their soft opening they have always been like this (yeah, this review is long overdue, but I had wanted to wait until their grand opening to give the most accurate review). Compare to Tea Boss where you can both see and hear the staff typically stressed out about getting everything right, or Coffee or Tea where they are always stingy about every single person being required to buy something and only being able to stay for up to two hours. I typically go for an oolong milk tea with pudding, 25%-50% sweet, 25%-50% ice. Perfect amount of consistency, smokiness, sweetness, fullness (whatever topping you pick, they will add a LOT! for only 50 cents), and caffeine to keep me up until midnight but no later. I've tried most of the other toppings, but other reviews have already said more than enough about them. Everything mixes so well together BECAUSE of the real tea leaves, not some powder you can find everywhere else. It's a shame some people don't like this place because it's actually genuine tea when they've acquired the overly sweet milk tea taste of Hawaii. Winter Melon Milk Tea with Aloe and Taro Milk Tea with Chia were both awesome, both just released this past week on their grand opening. The only cons I have are the parking (only about five stalls, but it's either late enough in the day for me to find one, or I just bus from UH to here to home) and the smoothies (extremely watery, ie the smoothie ain't smooth! but I just get what Mr. Tea is known for so it all works out). I come here so often that I've literally ran into at least a dozen friends here already. Okay, yet another new milk tea place. I ordered the Matcha Milk Tea and was expecting to be blown away... but they didn't add sugar. I thought milk tea was sweetened by default? But for what it was, it was still pretty good. You could taste the matcha flavor so if you love matcha, you should get this. Just make sure it's sweetened... My second time coming here, I was planning to try something new but the baristas made extra matcha blended with azuki beans so I tried some. This time it was really good so I got it. Yes it was sweetened. Except I have no idea what it was called. It was milk tea, except the consistency was almost like a slushie. Other flavors I've tried: jasmine milk tea, I bit too floral for my tastes, roasted oolong milk tea, the roasted flavor came out a bit too strong for me. I normally dislike tea (I know, such a bad Asian thing) and milk . My sisters said Maui opened up the first milk tea place, so when she got back to Oahu for her fall semester she wanted to try some of the milk tea places here (more varieties/more authentic??). Good thing I wasn't alone. There's also a 2nd entrance to the same garage on the street that runs parallel to Kapiolani & exits onto Ward. When you park in the garage you enter a back door, it's unlocked. You enter into a little cute cafe with about 7-8 tables. And their register is on your right. :) Our cashier was..... not too helpful. Workers didn't greet us or asked if we needed help/had questions. He just stood there and stared..... hard. Inside the shop is super cute, simply decorated. Very hipster looking :p The prices are great! Not pricey. First time I went there and the girl taking my order didn't smile or greet, just looked at me like I could read her mind. Whoa, this place is smaller than I thought it was!! The BF and I have passed by this place every single time driving to ward/starbucks, etc because we live so close, but from the road it looks like twice the size than it really is!! But don't let the small place fool you, they have pretty good milk teas. Now I work at a place where boba is like the staple treat while dealing with crazy. But this place is nothing like other boba places, its intimate, it's hip, and its quiet. My kind of place to study if I had to study! I tried the chocolate milk tea with boba. Pretty standard, but chocolate milk hits the spot sometimes :) They have an assortment of flavors, plus some holiday flavors going on as well! BF got a black tea, which tasted pretty standard, but he's like that. They also have macaroons and some dessert cakes which made my eyes bug out because they look so cute and delicious, and something to look forward to the next time we go. They also sell a couple sandwiches in case thinking too much makes your brain hungry. Parking was a breeze in the 909 Kapiolani building, but we went at night. Peak hours may get a little harder. We didn't know you could go through the back door from the parking lot, so we walked all the way around. But its okay, use the back door!! You won't step into the employees only closet!! Haha. I really enjoy boba and have been to a variety of places in California, both north and south. Currently they are in soft opening and my gf and I discovered it. The boba is delicious and fresh. We filled out their customer stamp card in less than two weeks! I really enjoyed their roasted oolong milk tea. Their drinks didn't taste sugary and the tea was evident in their drinks. I got really excited when I first heard about this place because lately, there's been more bubble tea shops opening and I wanted to see their approach at making the ideal milk tea. I'm not sure what the owner was going for but milk teas that I've tried aren't as sweet as I wanted to be. When I go to other places, I ask for 50 or 25 percent sugar. The teas that I've had here weren't that sweet at all so maybe it is supposed to be like that. They aren't bad and I would really come back here just to hang out and sip on something. I went today for the first time because I work 2 blocks away and I love tea. I love the mustache theme- very cute. The cafe is trendy and fun.The Jasmine tea was really good. My reasoning for giving it a 3 star is this: Many many people including myself cannot or do not eat/drink dairy. The ONLY milk option that Mr. Tea offers is regular milk. I wanted a milk tea but could not get one because I can't have cow's milk. Here is my advice to Mr. Tea: Offer 4 kinds of milk. Regular milk Soy Milk Almond Milk Coconut Milk If one of your goals is to be trendy and cutting-edge, which I think it is judging from what I read on your website and what I saw, then you should give people ALL of these milk options. Coconut and Almond are super yummy and a rapidly growing population of consumers want to drink these instead of soy or regular milk. They also have a long shelf life with no refrigeration if unopened. Especially being next door to the Vegan restaurant, Greens & Vines, I think A LOT of customers would appreciate and enjoy a milk tea with almond or coconut or soy milk. read more

The staff here are very friendly and ridiculously quick at making the drinks. I am a die hard boba fan and this is my favorite boba place on island. Surprisingly, parking isn't too big of an issue and the Kapiolani location is definitely more convenient to park than the Salt location. I personally don't like my boba too sweet so I always opt for the taro milk tea with boba at 50% sweetness. Yum yum yum!! read more

I went to the soft-opening for this place and boy was it crowded. I saw the line again later that night and it was out and wrapping around the door. I like their location, it's very convenient to get to. The shop also gives me a nice cozy feel. I like their logo, it's really cute. I ordered the "Matcha Milk Tea" and it was really delicious. I thought the chewiness of the boba was perfect. It's was a "Goldilocks" moment. I've never had such a perfect boba before. Same thing for the matcha taste in the milk tea. It wasn't too strong nor was it watered down. There are also a lot of different interesting toppings for the drinks along with many other drink options. The sweetness level and ice level can also be adjusted to the customer's preference which is a plus! I really like that because some places put in sugar like diabetes is the new black and other places put in ice with a side of what you ordered. Oh yeah, FREE WI-FI, need I say more?
