After deciding with a friend to get sushi for lunch one afternoon, my friend said we had to try this spot. Arrived here and it was small place but theres a decent amount of seating. I ended up ordering the 2 roll lunch special and an extra roll on the side. There was a good portion of food and everything tasted great. For the two roll special I ordered the spicy tuna and salmon rolls but I can't seem to remember the side roll which was actually my favorite (although I attached a photo). The place is small, a bit dark and nothing fancy BUT the sushi is fresh, delicious and worth the trip. Just like when I order an egg roll at a new Chinese restaurant to see if the food is worth ordering-I start with the seaweed salad-FRESH and the perfect sweet to salty ratio. For my main meal I ordered the Ocean and the Giants rolls. the only compliant I have is the the Giant roll is to big to eat it in one bite(thus the name) other then that no complaints. Mr. Wasabi is surprisingly good. What looks like a kind of tacky joint from the outside ("stay, or to go?") is actually decently cute on the inside and very impressive, quality-wise. Their sushi is decently priced at $1.75-$2.50 per piece (though it came as a shock to me when I first moved to NY and found out that an order of sushi only equalled a single piece, as opposed to the standard 2 in at least CA, NH and Japan) and probably the best in Bayside. It's nice to be able to get sushi in New York without breaking the bank. Rolls range from $3 for basic to $16 for uber fancy. The menu extends a bit beyond your standard nigiri zushi, too, so if you feel like branching out (udon, tempura, katsu, bento, teriyaki, various rice bowls (donburi), croquettes, yakitori and yellowtail jaw (hamachi kama)). This used to be my absolute A1, all time favorite sushi spot in high school. After going away for college, we kind of lost touch and I found myself ordering from other places when home. However, I recently revisited my old fave and it was just as good, if not better than I remember. As always we started with the crab croquettes which were so freaking good as per usj. Then I did the lunch speacial which was 2 rolls for $8. I got the salmon avocado and the tuna/avocado/cucumber. The fish was so so fresh and delicious. Glad mr. wasabi and I are finally reunited! Food was alright here. It's the service that sucked. Only 3 other tables (not a big place at all) were there. It took forever to get drinks and a food order placed. When one man was taking the plates away the dropped the soup all over me (Thank God it was cold by then). All they kept saying was sorry and i was saturated. Impressed that they put the ginger dressing on the side, so I can properly regulate the dressing dispensing. It was Costco spring mix, I'll bet my life on it. For rolls, I got the chicken roll, shrimp roll and spicy tuna. I added 2 pieces of tuna sushi. All the ingredients were fresh, chicken nice and warm, and tuna was blood red fresh, without the yesterday's fish smell or powder texture. My problems with the place: 1. Decor was ok - but I don't really care. Just commenting 2.rolls were fresh but nothing spectacular. Wasn't the epiphany I was looking for. I also think I may be used to the taste of Bell Ssushi 3. Mr wasabi is amazing. My coworkers and I order lunch from here very often. The staff is SO friendly and sweet and always greet you with a smile. Definitely above average customer service for this area. Their Udon soup is a comfort food staple of mine during the winter- it's freakin delicious and it's only $7.50 during lunch hours- AND- the bowl is HUGE! I usually am not able to finish it and take the rest home for later! They also include a spice packet with it on the side to adjust the spiciness to your liking (which I really appreciate as I have somewhat of a low tolerance for hottness haha) So glad to have such a delicious soup to eat on these extra bitter cold February days. If I don't get their bangin Udon soup, I usually get the 2 roll special and get the avocado and cucumber rolls- always very fresh and tasty. It comes with a miso soup on the side. Also tasty.
