Inexpensive drinks but very young crowd hangs out there. Which means it can be SUPER annoying to hang around.

Not sure why you'd go here if you are older than 22 or are just desperate for cheap drinks. The bar was packed with college-aged students and while it's true the drinks are very cheap, I was turned off by the geriatric snappy bouncer who complained to my friend over something trivial. Maybe said dude was stressed out, but still, bro. If I wanted dirt cheap drinks I'd return here, but there are too many bars out there in Nola for me to rush back. Great dive bar to go to if you're on a budget and you're around the area. They have a little gaming area, and they're located in the middle of Magazine St. so there's a lot of food options around. Would only go here for the beer, and NOT anything else. Simple drinks such as margaritas are butchered and destroyed by lack of bartending experience behind the counter despite all the "bartenders" I ever seen at this place are old men. However, you can't go wrong with the beer they have and it's always "happy hour" pricing. read more

Walking in here was a letdown because I had heard it was a legit dive. Basically, it isn't. I guess it might seem special if you come from a place where bars close at 2am and a beer costs $4, but coming from the south where all night bars are a pretty common thing, this place was just plain bad. It isn't trashy enough to be a dive, and not interesting enough to make it special. There are too many tables, the decorations try a bit too hard, and the crowd was mostly wealthy college kids. Worst part about it is that it's way to bright inside, and far too clean. So yeah, it's just a boring bar that might be worth walking into if there is nothing else around, but never worth making a trip for. There is a bouncer at the door that enforces a dress code, and more security walking around constantly telling folks not to set their beer on the foosball table. Of course, it is rude to set your beer on the foosball table, but a real dive will never kick you out for doing so, this place will. Of course, after spending so many nights at the Upside Down Plaza in B'ham, AL, I'm probably just spoiled. read more

Best dive bar in the city. Go on Thursday nights when single shot well drinks are a dollar. They're open 24 hours and there always seems to be people there. Also, their bar games are great (pool, foosball, and air hockey) and their juke box has TONS of songs. The bartenders are always pleasant and the atmosphere is dark and smoky (but, oddly enough, it what makes Ms. Mae's wonderful). read more

I love this place. The drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is just what I like, divey, smokey and chill. Although there were a lot more bros there than I was expecting. They had prank shows going on the tv, which was fun. Wish we could have played air hockey, but the tables were full. Fun fun fun! read more

I live less than two blocks away, so I go there a lot. That said, a black-out night for me always begins at Buddha Belly and ends at Ms. Mae's. That's because the drinks are cheap at Mae's. That and the convenience are really the only appeal for me. It's loud, smoky, dirty, and full of questionable characters, some of whom I've drunkenly made out with. That said, it has a Golden Tee machine. +1 for that. read more

It's probably a good thing that drinks are served in disposal cups. This place is a true dirty dive bar, and the bartenders are pretty rude, so know exactly what you want before stepping up to the bar. Drinks of cheap though, and tne music can be fun. Walked into the bathroom and walked right back out...it's pretty disgusting. If you want to experience a dive, and cheap drinks during a pup crawl...its ok to add this to the list. read more

Reading through these reviews, made me very sad. Obviously, the majority of them were from tourists who don't understand local culture. First of all, you never start the night at Ms. Mae's, you end it here. Who can handle that kind of rot gut liquor in the beginning of the night (well rum and cokes taste like bubble gum). Best place to shoot pool, if you get the original table from it's old spot (where St. Joe's is currently located). I basically grew up in this bar. I learned how to play pool with the best hustlers in the city (a few dead now RIP). Many an insane memory has been had at this bar. Some of bartenders are still the same from the original and still remember me and what I drink... Chartreuse, chilled, ice water back and none of that bottle crap! Oh and if you kill a roach while a certain bartender is there, you get a free drink. Or at least that's how it used to be. This bar isn't for the pansies out there. It's the nitty gritty of what our little city has to offer. So, go in with your beer goggles and enjoy. Too bad Cosmo isn't still around for you to hear him belt out Frank Sinatra at the end of the bar... maybe then you would understand. read more

Ms. Mae's is the perfect pre-game bar in my opinion. I usually go here almost every Saturday before heading to F&M's. The drinks are cheap. There's air hockey, foosball, and pool. Plus, you're bound to strike up a conversation with the most interesting people. The crowd is very mixed from old people to young college people. Thanks to the bouncers and bartenders, heavy metal is usually the music of choice. Even though the drinks are cheap, they are usually pretty strong. I usually order a rum punch, which is in my opinion the best rum punch in the city. It's also a great stop during Mardi Gras season as the parades usually roll right out in front of it. There's no need to bring your own alcohol to the parade since Mae's is so cheap. It's usually extremely smoky in here, which is a negative for me just because I hate cigarette smoke. But if you are looking to have a cheap, good time, Ms. Mae's is the place to go. read more

Dark, dank and dreary, Miss Mae's is the king of all dives. One could miss out on weddings, funerals or nuclear holocaust hold up in this spot with $1.50 PBR's, cheap shots and lack of windows/sunlight that they offer. The only knock is that the jukebox is a standard piece of top 40 bullsh*t. I hear it gets packed with the C- college crowd but I've never not had an alright time there. read more
