The bf and I wanted to grab a quick to go bite and this place was PERFECT! We got a to go box for the lunch buffet and it was our best meal choice of the day! We got tandoori chicken, which was tender and delicious! We also got two kinds of samosas, of which I could eat an entire bucketful if left to my own devices. Then, we rice and 3 entrees. The bf chose the goat dish and we filled up two squares of our container with tikka masala because it was just that good! The one box only costs $12 and it is definitely enough food to share and/or eat for two meals! Everything was delicious!!! You also get naan and a soda with your box. Seriously, amazing food at an incredible value. The only thing that was sort of awkward is that the bartender fills your box for you. It's not that the food was bad, it just wasn't that good. We ordered take out for 4 (Tandoori chicken, Aloo Gobi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Samosas, rice, naan): the chicken was dry, the dishes were not flavorful. There was completely zero heat. The entire meal was uninspired. I think the best part of the meal was the tikka masala sauce over the rice even though it lacked in heat and spice. I'm kicking myself for spending $70 on dinner that was "meh" when I could have gone to any Indian restaurant on Devon and it would have been better and less expensive but I was in the area. When I ordered on the phone, we went over the order 3 times, including the fact that I wanted TWO orders of Samoas. They literally confirmed that I wanted 4 total pieces, two orders of 2. When I got home, I found that $10 had bought me.... one order of Samoas. I could have let that slide if the food was worth it but it was so not worth it. read more

Had a great dinner here this past week. I just appreciate their food quality and service so much. Granted, their prices may be on the higher end but I have never left dissatisfied or thinking I could ever attempt to produce something that resembles their quality. Today was my first time trying the lunch buffet. I've been for dinner a few times, but have found that the dishes are overpriced for what they are. So I was really excited to finally try the lunch buffet for only $10.95 (no Wildcard discount for lunch). I was honestly not super impressed. The salad bar was just iceberg lettuce, green pepper, tomatoes, cucumbers in separate bowls. The saag paneer, chicken tandoori, pakora, curry, etc. were all good but nothing special. The textures and flavors all started to blend in with each other after a few bites and it got boring real quick. Also, nothing was spicy!!!! This is unavoidable for a buffet, but still a big turn off for me. The price point is great for the amount and variety of food you get, but I would choose Mumbai Grill for lunch for slightly cheaper and tastier dishes! read more

One friend who never had Indian food really loved it so we'll most definitely be back. My other friend liked it by it was a little spicy. Here's how I hand out the stars: Star 1: The food is excellent. Star 2: The service is always excellent. Star 3: The ambiance is perfectly nice. the only buffets i enjoy are indian food ones... i can never decide what i want to order and because the flavors are so strong, my palate likes to mix up the tastes and buffets allow me to do that! we like mount everest because it's clean, in a great neighborhood (downtown evanston... just blocks away from my favorite bakery - bennison's!) and the food in the buffet is always fresh, well maintained (never looks picked over) and there is never that "film" of grease floating on top of the curries. we would give this place 5 stars if they kicked up the heat just a notch. we know that they try to cater to all heat levels by making their dishes mild (and there is a full "bar" of condiments to spice it up). we also know that when we want "real heat" to head out to devon for a heartier meal. lots of families and students come to enjoy this daily buffet ($10.95 pp on weekends). read more

Its sooo good. Its so good to get the non-veg sampler. Its $30 and comes with like 4 or 5 dishes. Last time I asked if I can get some hot sauce on the side for it (the sampler patter is all mild but flavorful). So I was expecting some chili sauce (or pieces) to mix into the meal. They gave me this warm curry sauce that was thick and hearty. It was like a stew with little veggies and such. It was no charge which was pretty cool. I'm not sure what people have against this restaurant. It was nice to find a buffet considering the fact that Bombay Kebab is gone (and had a good buffet if nothing else). So, I think I've found my latest indian buffet replacement. To be fair, the food isn't amazing, but it is good. There are plenty of vegetarian options, you can get that pickled/super sour stuff, the fried veggies of which the name escapes me at the moment, some daal,paneer, tandoori chicken,basmati with peas, aloo gobi, gulab jamun, the regular items if you will. I was glad that they did have some turmeric spiced vegetables, which to me were the high of the buffet. Granted you are not getting absolute highest quality buffet but it still is decent. The food was noticeably lightly spiced - quite mild as well. I was hoping for things to be more spicy. If there's one thing I'd like to see different about Mt. Everest is that the buffet is in a corner, which means that everyone is blocking everyone as you're trying to get food due to the limitations of the space. I'm not sure what alternative exists, but if you happen to go for food at the same time as a wave of people expect to have to wait. That and perhaps adding some more background noise because this place got quite noisy when it got busy. I will definitely be coming back to order actual regular menu as well (as I have ordered and eaten the buffet), but I will say that Udupi will be giving Mt Everest a run for their money, considering the buffet is around $12 anyway. read more

My husband and I often eat lunch or dinner here, as it is in walking distance. The food is great! The staff is friendly, professional, and nicely dressed (crisp white shirts and black pressed pants are a very nice touch). But the ambiance is lacking. Ah well. Because...the food! My favorite is the goat stew, which is on the dinner menu. However, I haven't had anything there that I did not like, quite honestly. The biryani, lentils, paneer, are all good. And the naan is a good accompaniment. Of course the Indian beers are on the menu, Taj Mahal and Kingfisher, but there is a variety of beer, wine and cocktails for those looking for something else. The shining star is the daily lunch buffet, which is both tasty and inexpensive. There is a good variety on the buffet (even goat sometimes) - meat dishes, vegetable dishes, salad choices, and a rice dessert. Best place for lunch in Evanston, for sure! This restaurant is truly amazing; it is very difficult to find Nepali cuisine of this caliber in the USA. Every single dish we have tried here has been above and beyond expectations, and the staff is unbelievably courteous, routinely giving complimentary beverages, for example. During our stay in Evanston, we liked Mt. Everest so much that we kept going back for dinner. The Nepali chicken momo are extremely delicious, and I can't encourage the average visitor enough to venture into the Nepali menu. I wanna like you so much, especially since you're the only Indian place in Evanston...and Skokie is bereft of Indian restaurants. There is a sever lack of spice in the food. I was really disappointed the first time I ordered the veg thali. The flavor could have been kicked up a notch, too. I ran into many a piece of cardamom, but very little onions/garlic. I guess this is beneficial to my boyfriend, but not so much to my tastebuds. I asked for my (2nd visit) thali "spicy" a couple days ago... and got the mattar paneer, dal makhani and palak paneer full of hot chili powder. I guess that's better than nothing, except it wasn't exactly a flavorful heat. It kind of sits there burning the tip of your tongue. It's as if the cook threw the powder in at the end as an afterthought. Also, I'm not a big fan of blatantly frozen peas/carrots in the rice. I think I really loved it when I was a kid because it was colorful, and but now it's less appetizing because you can taste the old-ness. If you go, order the plain basmati! Enough of the bad, now onto the good! The waitstaff were friendly, and service overall was pretty excellent. The kheer was very nice, and was the best part of my meal! I kind of enjoy the texture of their paneer, which is tougher than I'm used to. Oh, and I can't forget the buttery naan. My friend was pretty pleased with his Nepalese chicken dish...I believe it was the Kukhura Ko Masu. I don't think I'm coming back here unless desperation sets in. Absolute heaven! We were actually aiming for another nearby restaurant which was unexpectedly closed. What good fortune as Mount Everest was an amazing find and we will be back, often. The staff is very welcoming and generous with suggestions. We started off with vegetable samosas and then ordered two vegetarian dishes along with the saffron rice (the white rice was offered readily and with a bit of questioning we learned about the delicious saffron rice) and Piyazi Kulcha (basically na'an with onions). Both veggie entrees were yummy. My beau and I were both going to order our own Aloo Tama Bodi, because it sounded so good. Then the waiter encouraged us to diversify so we did and ordered the Jhane Ko Daal as well. We like them both immensely, with the Aloo Tama Bodi being our favorite. Having finished eating and wrapping up the remaining portions (roughly 30%) to go, we agreed the samosas put us over the top. While they were good, we likely won't order them next time to save room for the entrees...and perhaps dessert. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Evanston! The chicken tikki masala is the best! Huge chicken pieces. I order mine with rice on the side, or with regular naan sometimes. And the veggie samosas are the best, with big size and good taste. They always give the two sauces for the samosas, and my favorite is the tamarind sauce. It's perfectly sweet and sour and pairs well the the samosas. I always have leftover because the portion size is big. Price matches the size, and it is definitely worth it. read more

My friends and I decided to come here for a friend's birthday, and for most of us, it was our first time here, and we were just blown away! Service is terrific. The waiter surprised us with a gift card for the birthday girl. My mango lassi was on the house. Price was definitely reasonable. The naan, raita, and rice pudding were very nice. However, my dishes lacked that intoxicating spice that draws me to Indian food time and time again. I ordered the Vegetarian Thali for One, which is a combination of many small vegetarian plates, and it comes with naan. But my dishes had the flavor, heat, and consistency of food that was sitting in a container all day and spooned into my dishes. The paneers were bland and had very few pieces of cubed cottage cheese. My friend didn't want to take her leftover tandoori chicken, so I brought it to my husband, who enjoyed it. I was very happy with my experience at this restaurant. The service (contrary to some other reviews) was wonderful and helpful. I am not a huge Indian food connoisseur, so the recommendations were appreciated. The food, beginning with naan bread and assorted chutneys was very good. Following recommendations from Yelp, I tried the samosa followed by the chicken Tikka Masala; both were very good, with LARGE portions. I thought the wine list was good and the prices very reasonable. This place is nice. I have gone several times and I am pretty content with the food. Being a Nepali restaurant, they have some typical Nepali food items that are great. They lunch buffet is pretty decent but I like ordering off menu and usually go for dinner. The service is great, and so it ambiance. Pretty spacious. I love Indian buffets and this is a good one. The floor plan is more personal than many. The staff is very efficient and courteous. A friend and I just love the Indian dish with spinach and cheese and these folks do a good job on that. When I saw the name I was hoping for Sherpa food but then saw the buffet sign. I guess Sherpa is probably jerked meat and water so I am lucky to find it as fine Indian dining. Come on, a little humor after a good meal is okay. They have a nice marsala tea that is a fine way to sit and digest the good food. The price for the area and what you get is very fair. read more

I love Nepal, I love Nepali food, and I love this F'ng restaurant. Though their Nepali selections are limited they are amazing and they have incredible Indian dishes as well.
