I have been coming here for lunch for many years now. I always have two plates of food. The food tastes flavorful and spicy (not hot). My favorite meat dish has got to be their goat. It is nice and fatty (not greasy just filled with its own natural juices). I also love all their vegetable dishes but I would say that my favorite is the spinach. I just place it on top of the basmati rice. You will not be disappointed. The service is great. Someone is always around to refill my water glass. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Evanston! The chicken tikki masala is the best! Huge chicken pieces. I order mine with rice on the side, or with regular naan sometimes. And the veggie samosas are the best, with big size and good taste. They always give the two sauces for the samosas, and my favorite is the tamarind sauce. It's perfectly sweet and sour and pairs well the the samosas. I always have leftover because the portion size is big. Price matches the size, and it is definitely worth it. read more

I love Indian buffets and this is a good one. The floor plan is more personal than many. The staff is very efficient and courteous. A friend and I just love the Indian dish with spinach and cheese and these folks do a good job on that. When I saw the name I was hoping for Sherpa food but then saw the buffet sign. I guess Sherpa is probably jerked meat and water so I am lucky to find it as fine Indian dining. Come on, a little humor after a good meal is okay. They have a nice marsala tea that is a fine way to sit and digest the good food. The price for the area and what you get is very fair. read more

One should not visit this place around 12 PM. Place is not well staffed to serve people as they get busy to prepare boxes for take-out. You will not be served adequately, food is also not brought on time leaving empty trays on the counter. Bread quality is not good. Except around 12 PM, it's a good place to be with friends. I have eaten there several times. The food is wonderful and the customer service is attentive. They offer both Indian and Nepalese dishes. Their buffet (lunch only) has a wonderful array of items to select from. They are very popular in the evening. I suggest making reservations if you want to have dinner there. read more

I ate the vegetarian sampler (or however it's called). Every dish I tried was very good. The sampler comes with rice and bread, a lot of food on the plate itself. I couldn't finish it. Service was friendly and fast. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Will definitely come again. read more

Just came back from eating dinner (dine in) at Mt. Everest with my family. Will never go back nor will do takeout. It is a complete rip off!! They use very cheap cardboard plates and plastic utensils (shame shame). The "entrees" are in small plastic takeout 6" (diameter) containers (again, what is with the plastic?). Super super small portions. Ridiculous. The small 6' entree plastic entrees ranged from $16 to $18 each!! Our very small dinner for the 3 of us came out to be almost $70 (w/o tip)!! We only ordered 3 entrees, rice for $5 and $5 naan. And speaking of naan, Mt. Everest used to have yummy naan (thick and chewy). Their naan was super thin and crunchy (like eating thin pita chips). Food was just okay (and chicken pieces were not tender either...how can you not have tender dark chicken pieces?). Please please do not waste your money here unless you want to practice portion control and be willing to pay almost $20 for a small 6" entree. read more

It's been awhile since I ordered from Mt. Everest and in that time, this place went from being mostly good to a yum-after-every-bite fantastic. We ordered lamb saag which had so much fresh spinach and tender meat with just the right amount of spice, chicken tikka masala which was buttery and tomatoey with large pieces of deliciously moist chicken, and dhal makhani that shined bright enough to stand up to the non-veg entrees. I called the restaurant mid-dinner to let them know how extraordinary the food, praying that they wouldn't tell me that the regular chef was on vacation with a temp at the wheel. Nope. They were so sweet and let me know that the chef must have shown extra love. Not sure how soon is too soon to order again to test that theory, but I will be counting down the days for some more of that Mt. Everest love. Truly OUTSTANDING from somebody who knows from Indian food. YUM. read more

Food was delicious. They give you these 4 crispy almost cracker like pieces of ... naan? I'm sorry I'm not well versed in Indian cuisine. It came with 4 sauces. I liked the green one the best. Then we ordered two entrees. One okra dish and one meat dish. Both were great. I would go back! read more

My husband and I are from South Asia and crave this kind of food all the time. We decided to check out the lunch buffet a couple of days ago. It had tandoori chicken, butter chicken, chili chicken, a lamb curry, multiple vegetable curries. Although, it wasn't up to our level of spicy-ness, the flavor of each dish was delicious. Today, two days later, we decided to order some take out from here but ask them to increase the spice level to our taste. And oh boy, we were glad we did! The food was amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed the palak paneer with the soft, melting-in-mouth naan. The biryani was also good - but has a lot of vegetables so next time we will be asking for it without. Delicious Indian cuisine! I've had their lamb curry, chicken tikka masala, and the baigun bharta and I was blown away with all of them. Their naan is perfection, and the basmati rice is fantastic. The food is pretty sub par compared to other Indian restaurants that are relatively nearby (think Devon). It is definitely way, waaaaaaay too overpriced and offers very little variety in its menu. The food is really quite Americanized (too saucy or too sweet) so if you're going to Northwestern and have never had Indian food before, this is a good place to try to wet your palette and get a feel for it. But definitely don't believe it's authentic. I'm also getting the feeling that they're ripping off the customers by charging more and simultaneously increasing the sauce to protein ratio in most of their dishes. read more

The lunch buffet was very cheap! That's the reason I went here and the food was pretty good for being all you can eat. Although the buffet portion of the restaurant was small, there was a nice selection of salad, meat, and vege entrees. The tapioca pudding wasn't the best I've ever had but was a nice ending to the meal. The staff was really great too! We stayed a while after we paid our bill to talk and they didn't ask us to leave. I highly recommend Mount Everest restaurant. I've been going here for many years, and it is always consistent. There about 14 vegetarian entrees. My favorites are: palak paneer and vegetable jalfrajee. Both of these dishes are excellent, and I find myself ordering them instead of trying new dishes. The most economic way to enjoy this food is to take advantage of the all- you-can-eat lunch buffet which is offered 7 days a week. They always have 4 vegetarian options and a salad bar with fresh fruit. Palak paneer is always one of the buffet choices. I find this food less greasy than many Indian restaurants, and the food is flavorful but not (hot) spicy. It's a comfortable, airy restaurant, and the staff are helpful and efficient. read more

I was really excited for Indian food when I got back from a long weekend on Denver and thought I'd try this place out. The restaurant is super cute and is set up well, being much larger than expected. The waiters were very nice and attentive and even offered us free rice when we were worried one order would not be enough. I was kind of disappointed by the food, though. I got the chicken vindaloo which was spicy as promised but lacked flavor other than that. The consistency was great it was just missing the depth of flavor Indian food often offers. My friends for the chicken tikka masala which was just straight up bland. Needed salt and didn't have a lot of depth, either. The rice was a little dry but it was mostly fine, and the garlic nan was a little dry as well. I would expect much higher quality considering that an entree without rice is around $15-$17. It seemed like their dinner options were buffet quality so maybe the lunch buffet is a better bang for your buck. Overall don't know that I'll be returning unless I want a convenient lunch buffet or to try other dishes but definitely have had much better Indian food in Chicago. read more

I love Indian food, and being from around the area Mt. Everest is my go to for this cuisine. Their Lamb Vindaloo is awesome and you can get it at whatever spice level you can handle. Naan breads are all great, I have tried just about every one on the menu, but the onion kulcha really is my all time favorite. Decently priced for the amount and quality. Also, the lunch buffet is great, but I would recommend getting their on the earlier side just because everything is more fresh. Overall I would highly recommend Mt. I have been a customer for several years and love this restaurant. As a lifelong vegetarian, I am very particular about my food. I have always been treated very well each time I arrive and sometimes feel like I am being given extra, preferential treatment because I attend so frequently, which I did at one point, being 2 or 3 times a week, so I was able to experience the food and service on a regular basis. The atmosphere is what brings me to the restaurant and even when it is busy, I feel comfortable, but prefer when it is quiet. As a confirmed people watcher, I rate the other customers a solid 4 stars on the scale of interesting. And yes, there are special tables where anything can happen on your blind date, but that is my secret!! The former head chef has left, and as much as we miss him, the quality of food is still wonderful. I almost feel like family, but so should you. The trip downstairs to the bathroom is extra fun, especially for kids. Remember to use the stairs unless you are disabled or just lazy and hold the handrail!!! {You may get stuck in the elevator}. Downstairs is a room reserved for parties, but peek in on your way to the bathroom sometime and see the cool mural on the back wall. Extra points if you dare to flip on the lights by the bar and see it lit up! Just go there, have fun and tip them well. They try very hard to please you as a customer and that is what is important. read more

I loved it. Husband and I have been here a few times, most recently on Valentine's day. I think the food is just outstanding, and the service is great. I would say the ambiance/décor is average, but it's a great restaurant nonetheless. As a bonus, on Valentine's they were so sweet - they sprinkled in all these surprises, like chocolate covered strawberries, a rose, and even a discount on the check. Lunch buffet was a great deal! For under ten bucks, my friends and I left very full and satisfied. There was one chicken dish that ran out because we came kind of late, but our waiter was super accommodating and told us to get as much food as we wanted before they cleaned up. Tandoori chicken wasn't dry, but it didn't fall off the bone like last night, which was a little disappointing. The spinach and paneer dish was delicious and I loved mopping all of the extra sauce up with my naan. The potato and green bean dish was good as well, but the goat meat in the goat curry dish was a little bit tough. I'm aware that himalayan/nepalese cuisine has a lot of indian influence, but with the exception of the one momo item on the menu, nothing here wasn't 100% indian. That said, the food was really good and Mt. Everest has one of the best lunch buffets around, be it on price or on quality. Tandoori chicken wasn't dry at all (like most indian lunch buffets do it), in fact it was very soft and even moist. Butter chicken was on point--chicken was also tender and soft. Naan could've been a bit better, but the aloos and the paneers and all the other curries were really good. I highly recommend this to all NU students. It's so much cheaper than your meal plan (even cheaper than Cheesie's) and you won't regret it... unless you can't help yourself and wind up on the floor five plates later. read more

I like it. Pluses: Everything I've had here has been yummy (most of the usuals - chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, etc, etc), and the ambiance is relaxing and non-intrusive. Minuses: It's a little expensive (tikka masala dish is around $12-14 for dinner) and the portions are kind of small. However, the fact that the food tastes good (and there is no real competition within walking distance) means that I will be back.
