Ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and I was disappointed. There was little flavor. I was actually really surprised as this dish is easy to make tasty. If you like this dish in general, you should skip out on coming here. I've made much better chicken tikka at home. Their Naan was tasty as usual of Naan but most places give more Naan than what they give. And if you're someone who finds it annoying to order rice in addition to your meal, keep in mind that this place charges for the rice. read more

I am from out of town visiting family and my uncle took me here for the lunch buffet. I live in Dallas where there is a large South Asian population with many Indian restaurants. Some good and mostly bad. The lunch buffet at Mt. Everest was yummy. We were greeted by the wait staff and seated right away. We made it over to the buffet where the food was fresh and had many choices. Once we sat down we had our drink orders filled and fresh naan. The food was tasty, fresh and hot. Had a fantastic meal here with friends- the restaurant itself is pretty nice and the food, from appetizer to dessert, was very solid. We used to live in Andersonville and never had the opportunity to try Mt. Everest. Now we live in the Boston area and were in the Chicago area for a few days, staying in Evanston, so we decided to give Mt. Everest a try: Meh..... We have an absolutely FABULOUS Indian restaurant in Salem, MA just 10 minutes from home and, during dinner, both my husband and I said that our place in Salem didn't have to worry about competition! First, the papadum was rather tasteless, so I was concerned with the first bites of the meal. Then the naan was not particularly fresh....it had been made earlier and wasn't nice and warm with a lovely soft center (as it could be). Plus, there was no yogurt for lassi (big disappointment.....I really must learn to make it at home!). I wasn't very hungry, so I just ordered the assorted appetizers. All of the items were dry and all the meat was overcooked. 'Nuf said there. My husband had the boti kabab masala and he also said, "Meh...." Service was ok.... They certainly didn't go overboard on the spices and we didn't think to mention that they could make it medium. Consequently, dinner was basically dry and bland......the bland was our fault, but not the dry. Bottom line: won't be back..... read more

I love going to this lunch buffet, which I believe is still 7.95 or 8.95. Mount Everest serves the usual: tandoori chicken, lamb, lentils, curry, and naan (mmm). Another reviewer is right that some of the food could stand to be spicier, but most of the dishes are full of flavor and the atmosphere is actually warm and a little more dressed up than one might expect for this sort of restaurant. read more

Over the years, I have had some terrible Indian food; most due to the fact that it was intimidating and often unidentifiable. After a recommendation of a co-worker, I made the trek to Mount Everest with my culinary cohort. She and I were elated! The service was overly attentive, infact, i was afraid that the water boy was paid only per glass he pored. We opted to order the "meal for two' in hopes of trying everything. It was nearly impossible to decide otherwise. Every dish was perfectly spiced and flavoured. We completed the meal with an included dessert of a fragrant rice pudding. If they would have given me a vat, I would have eaten it just out of sheer joy despite being happily stuffed. I would highly reccomend this restaurant and will be returning! read more

Best Indian in Evanston, not that that's a fierce competition. Service is friendly and the food is consistent. Most of the menu is standard Indian food of above-average quality and at above-average prices. The Nepalese items are hit-or-miss, but they're definitely a change of pace. Ate here for the first time last weekend. My husband and I had the buffet lunch and the food was delicious. The tandoori chicken was moist, very tender, and flavorful. Loved the vegetarian dishes, too. Fresh naan brought to the table was warm and fresh. Only "complaint" is that there were only a few samosas left at the buffet and they never replenished them. Do not order online from them! We placed an pick up order on their website then attempted to pick it up 30 minutes later. When we got to the restaurant, they didn't have our order at all and stated we must come to wrong restaurant! We showed them our order confirmation email from their restaurant, but they said they didn't received the order so they can't fulfill the order. So after 30 minutes wait and 15 minutes drive, we had to go to Mumbai Grill down the street since we were both starving. Later that night, we checked our credit card and we got charged $60+ from them for something we never received! We called and asked for our money back, they simply responded their manager was not there so they couldn't do anything about it, please call back. So we called back few days after to talk to manager and he said "don't worry, you will get your money back". It's now almost a month and we still haven't get our money back!!! At this point, we just have to call our credit card company. What a scam in the neighborhood! read more

Delicious standard Indian fare, with generous portions that are very shareable. The service was good, although I felt like they could have been a little more prompt refilling the water glasses - you need that water if you've ordered something spicy, which is more likely than not. ohmigoodness. My girlfriends and I spent an afternoon shopping in the burbs, and were dying of hunger. Instead of making it back to the city, we opted for this gem. I was the only one in our group who hadn't eaten here before, and as I had my first bite of the lamb saag, I wondered what the F was wrong with me and why I hadn't been here sooner. Garlic Naan & Paneer Naan were to die. As were the samosas, chicken tikka masala and every nibble of my friend's dishes. Best part? The end when our server asked us if we were Northwestern Students. I've been here before several years ago. We go to their sister restaurant Himalayan a lot, so this was a new experience. I must say the food was delicious and super tasty. We got 2 new dishes from what we normally get and was very good to taste as well. Service is pretty fast and severs are attentive. The prices are a little steep for the portions they serve. This place USED TO BE good but the food now is terrible!! I used to love the vegetables on the buffet but they were way overcooked and soggy. The yogurt dressing was so watered down it was completely tasteless. The lentil soup was thin and watered down too. Unlike every other Indian buffet I have ever been to where the tandoori chicken comes fresh and sizzling with onions to your table, the tandoori chicken here is precooked and sits on the buffet and it was rubbery and very dried out with absolutely no onions. No dal dish on the buffet either and the price of the buffet has also increased considerably. When I asked one of the waiters if the place had changed owners, he admitted that the cook they had for years has left to open another restaurant in Tinley Park and the new cook is not very good. Well its ok because there are a few other fabulous Indian restaurants that are not too far with outstanding lunch buffets. One is Tava on Dempster near Harlem Ave and the other is the Himalayan Restaurant in Niles on Golf and Milwaukee Ave. It is worth the 10 minute drive and of course there is always Devon Ave. which is full of great Indian eateries. Don't waste your time at this place as it has seriously gone downhill. read more

I was also pleased with how flexible the restaurant was in terms of removing cheese from certain dishes, etc. The only gripe I had was in terms of the seating; we were near the bar, so it was really crowded, and I was getting bumped into by NU students while I was eating. There was an exceedingly long wait time (40+ minutes) despite there only being 4 other tables. On top of this, the food was terrible: we got chicken in bone but it really should have been called bones with chicken as there was very little meat. Excellent restaurant. My wife generally gets butter chicken when we have Indian food, and quality of the dish varies substantially from place to place. I can say without a doubt that this is the best we've had. The vindaloo (my usual go-to dish) is also very good, but I've started to get the butter chicken as well. Service overall is excellent, and they are very attentive on water refills. Only negative I can think is that we've had to wait past our reservation time once or twice. Skip waiting in the crowded doorway - there's a bar tucked away in the back that's much quieter. read more

My girlfriend and I have been on an India food kick lately. We went to Mt. Everest last Saturday since we were downtown for an showing at a gallery. Looks-wise there is nothing special about Mt. Everest, just another food establishment in-line with others along Church St. Once inside we were greeted by a very friendly hostess who sat us at a table. Wait staff was prompt and friendly as well. Our water was kept filled the whole time ( a pet peeve of mine when you have to ask for more water ), and the waiter was quite helpful and informative about the menu. We had some Naan (of course), some lentils (the Dar Talka), and since I couldn't make up my mind on what I wanted to eat we ordered the Himalayan Hunting mixed plate. Everything was superb. We both agreed this was the best Indian food we have had so far...but we still have others to try. We will definitely stop back here when we are in Evanston and craving some Indian entrees. read more

Six stars! This is, by far, the best Indian food that I have ever had. We had the non-vegetarian combination meal and it was outstanding. I read some previous reviews that commented that the service was great, and it was. For example, it was Valentine's Day and once we were seated our host brought chocolate covered strawberries and gave me a long stem red rose to present to my wife. This set the tone for the evening and was such a wonderful and thoughtful touch! The entire meal was delicious, the wine was very nice, the rice pudding for desert was a perfect finish and the value was outstanding. We can't wait to go back! read more

This is legitimately my favorite restaurant. Only problem is that it's expensive. I prefer ordering out to dining in, so I can supply my own naan and rice. I love the palak paneer and jeera aloo, my husband loves with chicken makani. I would eat this food every day if my husband would let me and I could afford it. Not only is the food great but the service is fantastic. When a waitress accidently dropped some dishes near our table, they were SO nice about it and brought us dessert. The next time we went - 3 months later - the waiter not only remembered us but remembered what my boyfriend ordered. This place had good food and good prices. The buffet was really great and delicious. Parking can be an issue but it is not that big of an issue. The only warning I will give is that the aroma of the food WILL stick to your cloth when you leave so this may not be the best place to eat at if you will be going to a business meeting after the meal unless you gave a change of cloth in the car. read more

Bland curries laden with cream. The waiter never asked about a spice level, how easy would that be? When I asked for chilli naan to spice things up, they put bits of bland green pepper in it. Nothing stands out, very run of the mill. Pushing it to call this an Indian restaurant. Bottom line: Go for the lunch buffet, dinner is too pricey for what you get. The people there are amazing and the food is pretty good too. I went there for the first time for my 21st b'day and got my first legal drink there. When they realized it was my b'day, they came out with a surprise dessert with a candel on it and ALSO gave me a generous gift card, that I just went back to use last week.
