I am a terrible food artist. Embarrassingly horrible, in fact. When The Preschooler had his first birthday, I thought I would be that fun and creative mom who makes amazingly cute birthday cakes. Boy, I thought wrong. I made a cake that was supposed to look like The Little Einstein's rocket ship. It looked like a red and blue blob and even though I took pictures, I pretty much refuse to share them with anyone. It was that bad. I need a lot of work on presentation. Knowing how much talent and skill goes into food art, I really admire those that hold this type of creativity. Latte art, food sculptures, bright colors and unique flavor combinations always make a meal extra memorable for me. It just adds a little something special and spices up life from the everyday meals we all have at home. Mt. Fuji is one of those places where you can find a lot of creativity in their food. I believe patience is a virtue when it comes to dining at Mt. Fuji. The service may be slow, but it was still friendly. Once we were eating our food, it was well worth the wait, completely satisfying us with some of the most creative, captivating and original sushi concoctions in town. Went here today because I had a living social deal. I ordered quite a few sushi rolls including one of their specialty rolls. I was not very impressed with the quality of a few of the things I ordered. The standard rolls were good and the fish was fairly fresh... Nothing special you can get them anywhere. The disappointing ones were the specialty rolls and the eel. The specialty roll I got had tempura jalpinos and a strange topping. It looked good on paper but was pretty flavorless other than spice from the jalapenos. The awful part was from the Eel. It tasted rotten and completely ruined my Wife's apatite after eating just one of them. Eel is her favorite and she always gets it so she knows how it's supposed to taste. I tried one and ended up spitting it out. There was definitely something very wrong with it. Overall here is the scoop.... The standard sushi here is just fine... Nothing better than anywhere else. The price is premium though and you can get the same quality sushi for cheaper elsewhere. All the more expensive rolls I had were not so good. read more

I go here for sushi because their prices are still reasonable and its consistently good. I wish the restaurant was cleaner and the dishes were pretty but their prices would probably go up. Service is slow if it is a busy night so don't go if your in a hurry. Staff is always nice. read more

Now, if you like "designer sushi" you'll love this place. I've been coming to Mt Fuji for about 10 years now, and really enjoy it. The menu has changed quite a bit in that decade, and Fuji has really come into its own. The "Standard" sushi menu is expansive, but what is really fun are the special rolls. The presentation of these is as good as the flavor. The Four Seasons is the fanciest of the bunch, with four different bites of yummy goodness. My favorite is the pink angel, with the Samurai as a close second. The dinner menu is very nice. You can even order the Shabu-Shabu, a very traditional Japanese style of eating (Think Fondue, only with broth!). Very fun for a small group. The tempura is especially good, too There is a choice of seating at a table, booth, sushi bar or "tea (remove the shoes) booth". The decor is a bit plain, sort of kitschy with the look of a strip mall restaurant, complete with a mural of Mt Fuji on the wall. But hey, I'm there for the food. read more

I am giving them honestly half a star..ordered a bento box of chicken teriyaki and it came on a bed of bean sprouts..I am very allergic to bean sprouts, no bean sprouts were listed on the menu. I tell the waitress I can't eat it,it has bean sprouts on it and I am allergic. She takes it back and brings it on a new tray....still has bean sprouts all over it. So when my throat starts closing and I ate food that was not remade the waitress seemed to want to avoid me. Little upsetting that I didn't get to eat my lunch...still got charged for it and it wasn't even good. It is tough to eat when you ha e food allergies,but it would be better if those things were listed. The waitress could of acknowledged that I was allergic and apologized..instead I got ignored..good thing I have benadryl in my purse and epi pens. I also want to mention my boyfriend said the Katsu Don was very good. read more

Update: I look for sushi almost everywhere I travel. I still have not found another place I like as much as Mt. Fugi. And the spicy tuna sashimi, hawaiian style...OMG. I've tried poke everywhere that offers it, and frankly it always sucks. This place has it down pat. At least as pat as you're going to get it on the mainland. I've never had a meal there that wasn't very very fresh tasting. And fresh is one of the main keys to sushi. Update: Hawaiin Poke (spicy tuna sashimi) has been added to the menu. Had it yesterday. Sooooooooo good! Still have not been to another sushi place that is as good as this. I highly recommend the Heart Attack Roll, my favorite. Believe it or not, their Miso seems better that other places also. read more

I've come here twice in the recent past and each time it was an okay experience. Let's start with the positives. The hamachi is fresh and flavorful as is the salmon. The eel caterpillar roll is also very tasty. The things that were only okay: miso soup and various other rolls. In particular, my favorite, the spider roll was very lackluster. I couldn't taste the crab and it was also just poorly rolled. In addition, it was disappointing that Mt Fuji only serves cooked sea bass and mackarel nigiri. Concerning atmosphere, the booths on the left side are annoyingly dark. One of the times I came here I accidently ordered smoked salmon nigiri instead of the hamachi that's adjacent to it on the list. Mt Fuji is a solid place for Japanese food. It's just not a place I'd get excited about going to. read more

Mount Fuji has a great selection of Japanese dishes and sushi. The lunch boxes are a great meal and value, they include an entree, 3 dumplings, miso soup (to die for), a small salad, rice and 3 California rolls. The oyako-don entree is another favorite of mine. It's a huge bowl of chicken, egg, veggies and rice. There used to be another donburi that was a jalapeno dish, but it disappeared from the menu. The danger of going for lunch is that the service is quite slow. I'm not sure I've ever managed to get out of here in under an hour. Make sure that you have time to sit and enjoy the meal. I'd give it 5 stars if the service was faster. read more

I had to take a moment to give this place high marks. The sushi was good, and the donburi and soups were excellent, but what got me to write the review was the excellent waitress - never a dry drink, very good product knowledge, very timely, very quickly split our checks, very good Japanese pronunciation, just a very good server on the whole. This place has really good food and my overall experience was great but I had to stop at four as the decor and location are pretty basic (very clean, though). So Im from FL and I know what good sushi is! This place has the best land locked sushi Ive had since moving here. Great roll selection, the Yellow Tale was very fresh, the portions were large, all around good food. My BF doesnt eat raw fish so he had Gen. Chicken. That was also very good and came in a larger then normal portion size. Only little complaint was how long it took to make my rolls. It was at least 45. Granted the place was very crowded, also a good sign, but come on 45? Maybe they had to catch it first, who knows. All around great sushi for a land locked restaurant. read more

Had the sashimi plate and the red and white sushi plate as well as sharing a poke salmon over an avocado. The fish was totally fresh. We are new to town and wanted some sushi delivery ASAP! I looked through Yelp (of course), and landed here. I would like to mention, I am a sushi snob. Unsure of what i was going to get because sushi delivery is already a stretch. This place was amazing. To the wonderful customer service on the phone to the delivery driver. But most of all, ALL the food was delicious! We had 4 specialty rolls, Miso soups and one hand roll. Next time I would leave off the hand roll because there was too much rice for a hand roll, but I would defiantly order all of the others in a heart beat. YUMMY!! read more

Wow. The other reviews here were not kidding! Great "local" roll combination, very fresh fish and the service was extremely attentive. Almost that of a high class 5 star restaurant! I eat sushi all over the world and have spent time in Japan on some of the good spots there. This place is probably in my top 5 outside of Japan for the freshest and best selection of fish available. And then add all the roll combination and it is over the top. I have had larger cuts of fish on my sushi rice at some of my favorite haunts, so I can only give this place a VERY solid 4 stars. We ordered soooo much extraordinarily delicious sushi and some tempura stuff (the bf knows the name). We sat at a table that is i guess traditional Japanese seating. It was like the table top was level with the floor and the seats were below, so you had to like clmb in. We really loved this place! Since we live in Old Town, we tend to go between Su Hiro's and Jeju but we were heading south to go to a movie and thought we'd give this place a try. We were so glad we did! The service was fantastic (we had two separate servers as there was a shift change and both were great) and the food was so good! I got their special veggie roll (Buddha's Delight, I think?) and a regular vegetable roll and the hubby got their Fire and Ice roll along with the Cosmo roll--the latter of which he kept raving about.
