Cindy opened the Guest House to us and it was amazing. We spent every evening on the porch looking at Mt Shasta, smelling the pines and one evening watching a bear lumber down the driveway. Breakfast was served at the McCloud Hotel. We placed our order the night before and the meals were made to order, on time, a perfect portion and very delicious. Sight seeing, around the area, was really fun. We fished, played golf at the McCloud golf course, swam in the river, took drives and saw where family had lived. Cindy has pleasant staff and we enjoyed chatting with Nicole. This is an out of the way and beautiful part of California. I strongly suggest the Guest House or the McCloud Hotel.

They allow pets in certain rooms which is nice if you're traveling with dogs! I enjoyed how communicative the staff were. If you needed something, you can text a number and they were on it! They advertise that you may not have service here, but we had service and they also had wifi. They had great views outside on the deck. The grounds were nicely maintained. It was very easy to get here and right off highway 5. On the other hand, being a bed and breakfast I was expecting breakfast to be a bit better tasting. Breakfast is included in your stay. They provide fruit, yogurt, granola, juice, coffee, and toast. You get to also choose one main entree served with a side of potatoes. The main entree rotates so it's different daily. Overall breakfast could definitely be improved taste wise, but it's very convenient and nice of them to do this. Another downfall was the temperature in the main lobby/ dining area. They ran it hot in there and if you needed to get ice (they don't have ice machines, so they provide buckets of ice) it was all melted. This happened twice. Minor complaints!

We'd been desperate to get out of the…read morecity for a while, so we packed the car & our little rescue-mutt & headed away into the wilderness for our 18th anniversary. The Miner's Cabin offered a perfect, romantic, rustic retreat for us. You should think of your stay there as, "glamping". The cosy, one-room-loft-bedroom cabin is clean and basic, the structure itself, utterly charming. The bathroom is but a toilet, the entire room the shower cubicle & it's VERY clean, but most bathing happened in the river, shh, I'm not gonna lie. The cabin's heart is the pretty balcony that looks out over the crystal-clear river, where we spent a lot of our time relaxing and cooking. The kitchen is only a small bar fridge (though they do provide a large ice chest with ample space - just don't forget to buy ice), a sink, a microwave, toaster oven & an electric frying pan. Being outdoors folks though & a cook, we came prepared. I brought a portable gas burner which made the balcony a charming spot to fry up the beautiful, Steelhead Trout I was catching (FANTASTIC fishing). We ate meals out there too, to the majestic view of the river, the mountains & the pines, immediately before us. I also brought my cast iron dutch oven & used the wonderful, functional fire pit/ BBQ down on the river rock patio to roast vegetables in the fire. If you are wise about when to open and close windows at appropriate parts of the day, the Miner's Cabin stays wonderfully cool, even in the hottest of summer days as we experienced at around 103F. I think we used the swamp cooler once for an hour out of curiosity for what it may do. At night, the incredibly comfortable loft bed was heaven. We'd open up the pretty gable windows and enjoy the cool, evening breeze and sound of the lively river. The big house next door, also owned by Heidi, had a large family group staying there. We'd only see them sometimes when we'd use the driveway which is shared. Even with their nearby presence, the cabin felt very secluded. Occasionally folks would float by down the river and you'd share a wave or smile. You can hear the highway which is quite incongruous as you seem so far away from civilization. The river water is incredible. Our dog's coat and our hair and skin have never felt so good from lolling about in the water. Heidi has very detailed instructions and information available on the website and in the email package. Be sure to read them so you know exactly what you're in for and any additional costs like a dog fee etc. All the info you need is there. Heidi is very communicative. If you want the kind of no-frills, communing with nature experience we were after, this place is for YOU!

It was such an intensely spiritual journey, that I couldn't imagine having to stay at an ordinary hotel, so I was thrilled when I found the Almond House mentioned on Bethel's website as a recommended place to stay. The fact that it was called a "Bed & Rest" intrigued me, so I checked out their website and subsequently talked with them by phone. I was treated like an old friend and that just made me even more certain that THIS was the place to stay while in Redding! I found the Almond House to be like my home away from home...comfortable, clean, convenient, and the owners so friendly and gracious that I hated having to leave when the time came! The deck outside was a great place to eat lunch, and the starry view from the skylight made it oh so romantic. If you are into earth friendly camping, you will enjoy this place- it has an outdoor shower and composting toliet. We loved these amenities, but some may not. :) Another note is that it can really only accomodate two. Perfect for a couple's getaway. It was just private enough, since it is a bed and breakfast type setting, the owners live in a house far enough away for you to have privacy, and close enough to be able to ask questions. They recommended an awesome hike close by, provided everything we needed to be comfortable, and were easy to communicate with prior to our trip and during. It was amazing and I can't wait to go back! VERY affordable too. Our trip to Ashland wouldn't have been half as cool if we had stayed elsewhere.

The cabin and location is just the most relaxing place and the owners have proven that 'rustic' can co-exist with 'clean'. The cabin now has electricity, which is an improvement from our first visit when the lighting was all gas-lamp. Those lamps were quaint and cool, but the electric lights are nice. There's a new picture window and newer wood stove now too, so the cabin is brighter during the day and you have heat all night long. Take a look through the photo album and you'll see that Hilda (check the calendar in the main room) has been a part of the cabin for many years.

The owner has done nothing to upgrade the outside of this home, so it looks like the worst one on the block, but inside is another story. The 3 roll away cots are pretty miserable to sleep on unless you're a small child.

Not only does McCload offer a perfect mix of relaxing/adventuring atmostfere, with it's perfect view of Mt Shasta and so many hiking and biking trails only a few minutes away, but, also, the moment you walk into the house you start to love it. It is an old house, like many others in the town (or city) but so nicely remodeled that makes you feel warm and welcome every minute you are there. It has a very large quicken area with a heating stove that keeps the entire house warm, day and night, and a large and confortable living area. THe 3 bedrooms are ample and confortable too. The view of Mount Shasta from the house is already spectacular and biking around time ad nearby trail is also fun. I also like the fact that the ski park is ony a few minutes away, so it is very convenient.
