They don't pretend to be anything they aren't. It's a blue collar place that has beer in bottles, soda in cans, basic food that's good and cheap and served in a basket. Mallalieu was named after the lake that's behind the building. It was opened in 1908 by George Starr. This son, Ernest, opened the "Starr's Bar" across the street after prohibition ended. There's a lot of local history here. The owner is the also the bartender, the server, the chief cook and bottle washer. She's personable and good at what she does.
