It took me a long while to try the Muddy Cow but glad I eventually did! They always have 2 for 1s which ends up being a great deal! And that's the reason we visited there more frequently. But when we were there, we did try some food too. I will say, most of the food we ordered was decent, nothing to write home about but I was very happy to find chicken wings that I really enjoyed there! I want to say the flavor was whiskey something, because when my husband chose that flavor I was like meh, fine. But yum! So glad he did choose that flavor! Great no-nonense gastro pub! 2 for 1 drinks all the time (limited exceptions like shots) and 2 for 1 pizzas. Average prices on food and drinks. Taste is decent; it's what I would expect from a gastro pub. I don't think I would ever need to come back here. The drinks were alright, perhaps a bit watered down, but the service at the bar was pretty good otherwise. The food was extremely hit or miss. Both the pepperoni and the sausage pizzas were very marginal. They were so disappointing that I ordered the chicken tenders instead. The waffle fries were delicious, albeit a $3 up charge or something close to that (of which I wasn't informed), and the toast was solid. I'm not one for coleslaw, so I can't provide any review there, but the chicken tenders were decent. The tenders were slightly tough, as well as being too thick and strangely-shaped for my taste. If I have to choose between using a fork and knife or resembling someone gnawing on a giant turkey leg at the state fair, clearly the tenders are just not ideal. Did I have an actively poor experience? No, but it certainly could have been a lot better. I guess I expected more out of a restaurant with such a nice exterior. read more

A cozy place to get a drink and some finger foods. Not too loud and not too crowded. Stay far far away from the American Poutine, it was so salty my group only tried a little. By the time we left it was almost entire order left, told the waitress and even she agreed the poutines are salty. Burgers were only ok, they put so much sauce that it made the bottom bun super soggy. Chicken wild rice soup wasn't bad, it was good to have on a rainy chilly day. They do have all day 2 for 1 on beers but I'm not a drinker. Service was slow on the slower side. Our waitress didn't check back on us after we got our food. Have ordered takeout and been in for seated service. My review will include both. Takeout: fast and accurate times given for order completion. Definitely a plus. Takeout order included 2 orders of boneless wings and the duck wontons. Only major disappointment with Takeout was the sauce for the wontons was forgotten. Sit-down: loud restaurant to be in. Bar was completely packed, so was content sitting in a booth. However, they only had one poor girl trying to run around and serve everyone. What's more disappointing is there was another person, who looked like a server, just walking around the whole restaurant doing nothing. We flagged her down to ask if we could just get waters, since those hadn't even been provided. Were told "your server will have to do that". Just felt bad for the server who was actually working. Should have heeded the low reviews. A loud, potty mouthed group smoking on the patio Sunday afternoon- not good for a 'family friendly' patio. Regarding your Cottage Grove location, there is an ongoing problem with the smoking situation on the outdoor space/patio. There have always been NO SMOKING signs posted on all sides, but they are being ignored on a regular basis. In fact, there are even ashtrays on several tables. Why? Why is the policy not being enforced. I am allergic to smoke and was promised the patio is now all non smoking, but again today, I saw two people smoking on the patio on a windy evening as the wind blew their smoke toward my table. I will stop being a customer until this improves. Either remove the signs, or enforce them. At least then I will know it is smoking and I won't sit out there. This is very unfair to the customers to have a policy that is being ignored by not only selfish customers but the staff/managers who let it continue. read more

I really like Muddy Cow! Their is such a variety of food and options to choose from and every meal I've had had been good. The pickle fries and the cheese curds are for sure a must try; we now rotate between the two every time we go. The service has always been good, even when it's busier - quick, multiple check ins, friendly. The atmosphere is more sports bar - mix between bar and restaurant- where some people are there just for the drink deals while others bring their whole family for dinner. Would like to comment on the three employees that worked this evening. Aubrey was our waitress and she was very attentive constantly checking to see if we needed anything. She was excellent! We also noticed Levi hustling to all his tables. He was not our waiter, but could not help observe his attention to his customers. Lastly, the host (cannot remember his name) but he was amazing. This young man opened the door when we arrived and never stopped moving all evening. He was clearing tables and washing everything down. You are fortunate to have these employees. The biggest thing that makes me not give this place a 5 star review is cause the service is very spotty. Our waitress almost seemed surprised every time we looked at her with the look of "are you going to stop here", and we basically always have to ask someone to get our waiter to get our check whenever we come, but we always come back for 2 reason. The food is always good, even though there is a wait a lot of the times, but the food always comes out hot so it's hard to fault anyone on that, since it comes out hot you know they're really just either slow or short staffed in the kitchen, and secondly the always 2 for 1's. Wow! This place was not good at all. If you are going just for buy one get one beers- and maybe some fries your in the clear, Don't bother with the food. I got the strawberry salad. Know it was February I did not expect the berry's to be perfect- what I got was ONE strawberry cut up on old lettuce that was brown, I do say it was coated well with a good dressing and feta cheese was well distributed. The rubbery chicken was clearly a pre made breast from Sysco and reheated in a microwave- it was gross to say the least! But what really made this salad horrible was the stale candied walnuts that tasted like and after taste of cardboard. My husband got the rodeo burger he said it fine, nothing to write home about. The inside was rather busy and did not appear to comply with social distancing guidelines. There are some good weekend deals on drinks and food. We love the wings- the blackberry BBQ flavor is particularly good. My husband enjoyed his bloody Mary. Our server was friendly, but we were forgotten about towards at the end of our meal. If you know me you know I don't ever complain at a restaurant. I get we're all strapped for help and wait times are sometimes long. Totally understand. Went to the Muddy Cow for dinner tonight. Got seated right away, was just after the dinner rush. Waited for a server, none came to our table. They then seated a 10 top right next to us, there was 2 of us. Immediately a server came and took their drink orders., I went to the host stand to ask if we were going to have a server, I was assured they'd send someone right over. Waited another 5 minutes...still no server. I can't tell you anything about the quality of their food. We never got waited on. I can tell you the service we received was non-existent. read more
