    Muffin granny Granville island
    L C.

Another long time favourite at Granville Island public market that was a disappointment. This food court vendor has been here for at least 30 years. Known for their crepes, scones (they call them scrumpets), muffins and cookies. In the past we would order their carrot cake and morning glory muffins, which are excellent. Occasionally the scones, which are ok but nothing great. They do offer to toast the scones, with butter and jam (they charge for jam) which seem to make them more flavourful. The muffins and scones are large so it seems the prices are good based on size. Today I had a blueberry scone which had absolutely zero flavour. All you could taste is flour. My companion had a muffin, which was ok, he recommended I toss the scone and order from another vendor after tasting it. There are quite a few servers, mostly back of house or making crepes. Service was adequate but slow as only one person was running cash, toasting and making coffee/tea. Would not order the scrumpets again. Muffins or crepes are a safer bet.

This cute little counter bakery is located inside the Granville Island Market. I was initially drawn to Muffin Granny because of the "People Love Us on Yelp" sticker, so I knew I had to check them out! I ordered an almond cookie, and it was so so good! Very buttery, just the right amount of crunch with the almonds, potent almond flavor, not too sweet, and soft and chewy in the middle. If you're into almond flavor like myself, make sure to do yourself a favor and order this! I would've tried more baked goods if I were still a bit hungry, but I had walked by when we were already about to leave Granville. Everything else looked pretty good though. I gave it 4 stars because the lady at the counter didn't really seem to be eager to help at all and just kind of awkwardly stood there as I looked at the display case, no greeting or anything, until I decided for myself to just try the almond cookie.

Pear and brown sugar crepe. Bland and tender crisp pears.

One of many longtime merchants inside the famous public market. I came for a light snack. This was their special of the day. I was expecting softer pears and more cinnamon spice. It was well stuffed with pear but a little bland.

Was walking around the food court at Granville Island Public Market and saw them making fresh crepes to order so we had to get one. We decided to get a savory crepe and opted for the ham & cheese crepe, it was pretty good, nice thin crepe, tasty ham and melty cheese. Nothing super special about the crepe but it held us over for a bit until we hit up another food stall later. A lot of bakery selections to choose from and they all looked real good. Coffee is served as well but it was pretty warm that day so I didnt feel like one. This place is in a food court setting so seating is whereever in the middle or outside. Staff was friendly but our interaction was pretty brief. Overall, a pretty good stop to come by when looking for an option in a food court.

This humble food stand in the Granville Island Public Market makes some pretty good crepes. You can have them in both sweet and savoury varieties, watch them being made on the hot disks behind the counter, and they're cheaper than Cafe Crepe, too. The stand is down near the end of the food fair hall, near the big atrium with the two levels of seating. It is also near the big "back porch" of the market, where you can eat al fresco, but mind the seagulls. They're ruthless! For about $6 we got a sweet crepe stuffed with strawberries and topped with loads of whipped creme. The presentation is simple, but when I'm that hungry, I don't care. However, I do get all eco-guilty about the styrofoam plates and plastic forks, but that's take-out for you. It was a delicious crepe, light and filling, the perfect afternoon snack.

Wow the look of the pastries are awesome but the taste is not the same. Was very disappointed. There was a line not many about 3-4 people before me. Bought quit a lot, all possible flavors of scones, two different types of mini loafs. I think it was buy 5 items and get one free. I end up with eight or nine delicious looking pastries. Mini loafs were average, scones are disappointment. I don't know if they have tasted better if I have asked them to heat and butter them up. They offered I denied. I wouldn't order them again maybe mini loafs. Girls at the counter were super helpful and patient while I was picking my purchases. Locals have suggested to try this place out do not know why.

This unsuspecting pastry vendor at the Granville market was a great surprise. We were looking for some breakfast and stumbled upon this place. I ordered a blueberry muffin and my boyfriend ordered a different type of bluberry pastry. Scone maybe? He had his toasted with butter. With our JJ Bean in hand,we ate our pastries outside. The muffin was so soft and chock full of blueberries. Maybe even more than the bread itself! The scone was also delicious and makes you wanting more! Two thumbs up!

Dry scones that taste like baking soda for an inflated price. I could've baked them much better. No thanks.

I was meeting a friend here yesterday who's visiting from California, and when deciding on a meeting place, we realized a bunch of the Gastown coffee roaster places were closed on Sunday, so I mentioned Breka , knowing it was opened 24/7. (LOVE this!). Plus, this site is close to Waterfront Station, and my friend had a busy day planned, taking the Seabus to N.Van and doing a lot of sightseeing. So this Breka was perfect. I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. My friend arrived and got a chocolate concoction which looked amazing, and he loved it, so there's that. I still love Brekas but I probably won't return to this site. Between the cold experience at the cash and the prolonged waiting for my order (a cup of tea!), and not being sure if my order number was ever called, it just all left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Well it seems ownership has changed and the new owner doesn't give two craps about prior customers, honoring discounts, replying back timely or being more friendly? Was playing email tag and finally submitted the 39 flavors and didn't hear back until after another week and then told they won't deliver only in morning when they know our reservation was for 730pm and they're open until 9? I even replied back and nothing. We own and run several business in lower mainland and in United States and this customer service from Unni Pastries is trash. At least you can do is reply back and apologize? For wasting time when I specifically told you it's for family and friends flying into town for a funeral burial. Will never use their business again. I highly suggest Mello. They replied and helped me out last minute. Shame on you! Learn how to run a business and treat customers esp previous customers who were supporting the business and fellow Krn but it's clear the new owner doesn't care about the customer or quality it's all about quantity. Maybe my 39 donuts which I offered to pay extra for time and packaging wasn't large enough but money is money. Especially during this time and economy. You should've at least replied back and even tried asking us to do pickup as the restaurant is down the road. Do better!
