I felt like a lot of care goes into into the business here. The vibe is very homey - no fancy aesthetics, but it's comfortable. The staff seem very nice. Huge menu of sandwiches, salads, and breakfast-y things like oatmeal. There's a display case in front that has some of the sandwiches and stuff in it, but anything on the written menu is fair game to order, which I did not realize until I saw people with sandwiches not from the case. Also there's the usual coffee/tea drinks and a variety of baked goods, all of which looked delicious. I had an egg & avocado breakfast croissant, a key lime pie, and a flat white. I think the prices are really fair. The sandwich was made on a cheese croissant and had an additional slice of cheese inside which made it very cheesy but very yummy. The crunch of the melted cheese on the outside was really good. The hard boiled egg inside was a little different from the usual scrambled or fried egg in breakfast sandwiches but I liked this better with the avocado. The only complaint I have is that there was a lot of grease on the bottom of the sandwich, enough to pool on the plate. I liked that they served it with a mini pickle. The key lime pie was a fun and unique take on the dessert - it was made up of layers of key lime custard and tea biscuits. I loved the texturing and the lime flavour was very pronounced. They did a great job on my flat white too. They served it in a disposable cup even though I ordered for here but I'll assume that was an honest mistake. Loved the vibe and the food was very well made, so I hope to be back. read more

I originally wanted to go to Starbucks next door, but changed my mind when I saw this local cafe. AMOKA is a small, clean cafe with vibrant wall paintings. They offer quick and friendly service. They have a decent selection of baked goods, and lots of specialty beverages. I ordered the lavender London fog and a regular banana bread. The cashier asked me to take a sip just to make sure there is enough syrup, but there wasn't. So I am glad he offered to add more syrup to sweeten my drink. However, after I walked out with the fog and I noticed that it was just too milky than sweet, and I couldn't really taste the tea. It wasn't very tasty, rather just milky for me. The banana bread was also just OK. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst. It was lacking taste, as well. I had half of it, as I shared the bread with a friend. My friend also had the same comments about the bread. read more

Walked past a Transylvannian bakery and another adjacent spot that featured churros, but was closed. First stop today on upper Davie/West End was to check out Tartine Bread and Pies instead (2/21/18). It was still below freezing and the flurries started, so it was a welcomed stop to warm up and check out their baked goods. Nice to see a bustling neighborhood bakeshop/cafe. The pastry case filled with eye catching items: pastries, cookies, pies, and artisan loaves of bread too. Smelled nice! Super friendly and genuine counter person who rang up our purchases of one each: a ginger molasses cookie, a butter tart, and a mini lemon tart ($4.95 Cdn). The Homie consumed the mini tart onsite. We shared the butter tart later on back at the high rise flat. Reminded me of the pecan tassies my late father baked, minus the pecans. The ginger molasses cookie had that signature chew and flavor. These items were spot on satisfying! I'm glad I stopped in at Tartine Bread and Pies. read more

I have been a couple times now and finally gotten round to leaving a review. A lovely little place on Davie, Coffee is lovely and food options are just right, price wise on par for Vancouver really but the edge is a nice little place with just the right music playing and polite and helpful staff. Worth a drop in if going past. read more

I should reserve full judgment till I try one of the sweet treats here, but in the mean time, Tartine serves up a decent turkey sandwich for under $10. I tried the Turkey Delight, with lettuce and cucumber. The housemade (?) multigrain bread was on the softer side, the turkey good quality (not slimy, overly salty and processed), and the veggies fresh. Don't be afraid to ask for additional condiments (I swapped the prescribed cranberry mayo for classic yellow mustard). The space is a bit on the smaller side for eating in, so not ideal for larger groups, but tea for two, me and you, is all good. read more

The sight of pie through the windows pulled us in as we walked by Tartine after dinner. It's so cute and quaint, offering fresh pies made daily. Right at the front, a board lists the several seasonal pies available, but since we stopped in around 6 PM, the flavors that we were the most excited about tasting had unfortunately sold out. The employee behind the counter was friendly and patient while we were deciding on our order, which we appreciated since we can be pretty indecisive when it comes to baked goods. **TIP** There's a special deal for latecomers like us: After 6:00 PM, if you buy a slice of pie, a complimentary tea or coffee is included, all for $4.20. Not too bad! We opted for a slice of blueberry pie and couldn't resist from also grabbing a molasses cookie ($1.75). The cookie was chewy, light and buttery - so good! Sadly, I wasn't huge fan of the pie. The blueberry filling wasn't too flavorful... not sweet nor tart, but instead pretty bland. The crumble on top also didn't add to the pie at all. Lesson learned... come here before early afternoon to avoid the slim pickings from the day's leftovers. Although coming in late allows you to take advantage of their 6:00 PM deal, the selection is extremely limited. read more

Cute cafe in the neighborhood. Their coffee was pretty decent. Got myself a cappuccino with skim milk, definitely the milk to coffee ratio was a bit off for me. Their vegan almond croissant was super delicious, and took me a second to tell it apart from a regular almond croissant. read more

Cute place. Ordered the bagel breakfast sandwiches that were in the front case, toasted. Bagels not toasted and so stale that they fell apart when we tried to eat them. I took our plates up to the counter to let the staff know that we didn't want to eat them because we thought they were terrible. One staff member walked up to ask what it was specifically that I didn't like. I stated the problem, and he was defensive. He argued that he made those bagels fresh that morning. He definitely did not. I think they were maybe fresh from the freezer? I don't usually bother giving bad reviews, but this guy helped change my mind. Anyway, they did not offer to give us something else in exchange, or our money back. Then we had to awkwardly wait for our coffees that we had already paid for ($32.45 including a 20% tip) with the sandwiches. The coffee was good - I'm grudgingly giving two stars for that. Open at 7 am on Sunday. Tartine Bread and Pie was the perfect place for an early breakfast before we braved the US Canada border crossing. We found Tartine on Yelp! Owner operated. I ordered the Beef Pot Pie for breakfast- why not? The Beef Pot Pie was delicious. Amazing pastry, delicious filling that was not greasy. I also enjoyed the Avocado Toast. Amazing Bread , well prepared. Nice comfortable space. I also purchased a freshly baked Cheddar Cheese Loaf. I'm looking forward to enjoying the bread at home. After taking a bite out of Tartine's strawberry rhubarb pie, I had to take a photo of it because it was that good. I am fortunate enough to have a grandma that bakes incredible strawberry rhubarb pies. Tartine's offering is just like grandma makes them. Sugared, flaky crust. Tangy rhubarb sweetened by sugar. Not as good as it used it to be... I used to live and work near this location and go in regularly for lunch. I was in the area so decided to stop in. The turkey delight sandwich was always my favourite, unfortunately now it is essentially salad on bread with a hint of turkey, they have really cut back on the turkey. There was so much lettuce on it and I had to search for the turkey. Don't think I'll be stopping in again which is too bad. read more

I was visiting Vancouver for vacation and staying in the area. I can only vouch for the sour cherry tarts but in the span of a 7 day vacation, we came back here twice which is a lot for us. After all, we were on a food tour of Vancouver. The tarts are reasonably priced, and the cherries were the perfect amount of sweet and tart. The crust was soft, slightly sweet and the oh dang, the filling was magic. The filling was sugary sweet with a hint of sour, and the crumble on top was great. You won't be disappointed if you pop in for a small treat. If I was staying longer, I probably would have eaten a whole pie to myself. read more

Technically a 3.5 review, but I am rounding down because the woman at the counter looked kind of annoyed and like she did not want to be there. Chocolate pecan mini tart (4.5/5) Very tiny but very good. Would recommend. Chocolate chip cookie (2.5/5) Very average and kind of underwhelming. I will probably stick to the pies and tarts. Not sure if I would come back - maybe I'll try their other location where I will hopefully get better service. read more

Everything is good about Tartine but let me highlight the two most important things you need to know. The breakfast sandwich: buttermilk bun + bacon + baked egg + avocado + chipotle mayo = bliss. You pay an extra $1 for avocado but you will not regret it. You have to ask specifically for chipotle mayo but life is all about asking appropriate questions like that. Breakfast sandwiches are also $1 off on weekends!! Friday is pie day. It's a given rule - slices off pie are a dollar off and you get a coffee/tea for free with that. One of their summer pies is this little slice of heaven aka raspberry lavender. All their other pies are good, but I would rearrange my life on most days to get myself a slice of that raspberry lavender wonderful cream pie. Since the Davie location is so close to my work, I'm there often. All the staff are friendly and personable and I can always count on my order coming out in a respectable amount of time. read more

We went here for a quick (late) breakfast to go. The menu options for food were limited but each item looked really delicious and the cafe was small so that seemed appropriate. I ordered a hot Carmel macchiato with almond milk and it was delicious. I also got the Havarti sandwich with veggies which was fresh and tasty. There was quite a bit of lettuce on the sandwich but I didn't mind since I love lettuce on my sandwiches but it did make it a bit messy to eat. I've been here a couple of times, mostly to get sweet pies for takeout, and I've always really liked what I got. They've got a variety of sizes and flavours and styles of pie, from fruit pies to sugary pies and tarts to pudding-like creations, and they've all been delicious and just decadent enough so far. Most recently I got a small blueberry pie, and it was great as well; the filling was sweet but the blueberry flavour still came through strong, the crust was solid and tasty and existed in just the right proportion to the filling so as to great a nice pie mouthful with every bite. I've also had their chili once, and while not the best chili I've ever had, it was a solid and enjoyable meal served in a satisfying portion. Service is usually fast and polite, and the prices are pretty good. I'll definitely be returning here for sweet pies in the future. read more

I had Shepard pie and a blue berry sour cream pie that was absolutely delicious. One of the best Shepard pie I have ever had . Counter staff was great and service was quick . However the manager kept barking orders and getting upset and reprimanding her staff over and over it really put a damper on the experience . If you are going to correct your staff please do it so the entire restaurant cannot hear. It's unprofessional and it made the experience quite uncomfortable. read more

The owner was here and she seemed nice - and the poor woman was navigating the awkward situation of someone coming and eating in here place that apparently had a business with the same name and was "checking things out".. Never fails me. I love this place. I used to work right on beach Ave and used to go get lunch at the hornby location, the original one. Then, when I saw they are opening davie location, which is a few blocks away from me, I was super excited that it's just steps away. I would say they made a good decision considering the location being very close to residential an businesses. And it's in beautiful west end!! They are well know for their pies but do not miss on soups and sandwiched! They are amazing!!! I am not even gonna bother cookies. Coffee is just bonus! Go bananas people. read more

I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon and it was served piping hot! They had put the bun through the toaster so it was even crispy at the top. They had a large selection of pies and baked goods early in the morning. I gave in and had a slice of raspberry rhubarb ginger pie. The filling was deliciously tart as expected and I was able to taste every flavour advertised. They didn't offer to heat the pie up- I think that would have been even better! I'm even bringing home a blackberry apple crumble pie as a souvenir! read more

Came here with my bf on a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. When I walked in, I was intrigued by all the different kinds of pastries that they had on their display. They all looked so tasty!! My bf was so hungry that he wanted to order their turkey sandwich but he was conflicted with having their special instead which was a french croque monsieur and a side salad. After minutes of thinking xD , he decided to go with the turkey sandwich but the guy in front of him suggested to get the french croque monsieur because they only served it on weekends and he said it was very good. Therefore, my bf ended up ordering the french croque monsieur and an iced mocha with soy milk while I had an iced americano with a slice of raspberry rhubarb ginger pie to share. When the croque monsieur arrived, it smelled and looked delicious! It was, however, just an open sandwich not a full sandwich but it was fine. I was hesitant to try it because I don't like ham in general but it was absolutely delicious! It was covered in melted cheese and slices of tomatoes, and it was sitting on top of a toasted sourdough bread which I thought was a good choice of bread. After we finished the sandwich, we dived into the pie. The pie was pretty good but it would of been a lot better if it was heated up. It wasn't too sweet and the ginger wasn't overpowering. The crust of the pie was alright. I wished it was more flakier and crispier. Overall, staff were friendly and food tasted great! We would definitely come back again to try their other sandwiches and pastries! I am definitely looking forward to their daily special cookie surprise because on that day, it was a chocolate, toffee and pretzel cookie! Sounds like my kind of cookie (but I didn't get it :[) ! Their cakes and cookies are super soft and chewy, my boyfriend begged me to get him more peanut butter milk chocolate and white chocolate cookies. This is a solid neighbourhood joint with locals and friendly staff. Definitely one of my favourite local bakeries. read more

So, I was in your bakery on Wednesday night. I ordered a beef type sandwich and it came with a salad. It took about a 20 min wait, when I took it home, I only live a block away. The bottom of the sandwich was totally mush, obviously the sandwich was prepared before the salad, the sandwich was left to sit with the gravy already poured on while the salad was made. When something is for takeout that requires sauce or gravy it needs to be added in a separate container to avoid this problem, also it was very salty, hopefully the bakery can learn by its mistakes. read more
