I came in for some hot coffee and a delicious breakfast and this place came through in the clutch! I ordered the Hungry Warrior- 3 eggs, choice of meat, and hash browns covered in gravy. It was delicious, honestly. The portions were not TOO large like some restaurants like to serve for breakfast. The coffee really hit the spot. We arrived a little after 9 am on a Sunday, Labor Day weekend, right before the place completely filled up. We were seated right away but not even greeted or given water for 8 minutes 43 seconds (yes, I'm using a timer). It took 10 minutes 15 seconds before our food arrived which I consider very reasonable. So, the food. My blueberry pancake (you can get 1, 4 or 6) and sausage were fine but not remarkable. RRR 's sausage and gravy, half order, was also good but not remarkable. His coffee was good. What I enjoyed the most was my specialty coffee, a s'mores cappucino. $13.50 plus tip for everything. That brings me to the coffee, what I would expect to be one of their specialties since they used to be exclusively coffee. My husband had the regular coffee which he said was good but not remarkable. I had the specialty of the day, a s'mores cappuccino, and it was actually very good, not too sweet but with a distinctive marshmallow and chocolate flavor. The cappuccino was also well done. And we got them in china cups today. Hooray! Another item I wish the owner would address is the noise level in the cafe. It has all hard surfaces and, when filled with customers, is extremely loud, to the point where we can barely hear each other speak. So why come to this cafe instead of McDonald's? Good question. The only thing that I can remark on is their specialty coffee which I think is a big improvement over what you could get at McDonalds. Otherwise I think the food is very comparable. Call this the tale of two restaurants. We walked in around 11, looked around, pleasantly surprised at how nice it is inside. We seated ourselves (as instructed by a patron) and waited. And waited. And waited. We figured out that the girl having a very long conversation at a table was our waitress, got her attention and waited. And waited. And waited. While we waited, three other tables were seated and their waitress greeted them, took their order and delivered it before we even ordered. Finally got our food at 12:15.I had an appointment at 12:30 so we snarfed our food and left (we paid) Food was good, one waitress was excellent, the other.....(insert heavy sigh) I'm guessing the others would have given 5 stars. Food was good. Service is horrible. We had a large party so we understood it would take some time so we were patient. The waitress was slow in bring out our drinks but we patiently waited trying to be understanding. Our food finally arrived except for one entree. Our waitress advised us that the cooks overlooked one of our orders and that she requested that they take care of it quickly and advised us it would be out in about 10 minutes. We ate slowly so we would be able to enjoy our breakfast together. Several other orders were sent from the kitchen but we were still waiting for our simple breakfast sandwich. We asked our waitress if the entree was coming and she said she thought so. Our waitress did not acknowledge us again and another 30 minutes went by. I finally asked for her to take the sandwich off our bill and to give me the check. We were there for two hours and never received any apology from our waitress. If you have an appetite for healthy wait times and non-existent communication, you'll love Mug Shots. First, we waited 15 minutes at the door before being acknowledged, even though there were three open tables (yet to be cleaned). Once seated, the wait continued. Another 15 minutes to get drinks, another 15 minutes to place an order. 45 more minutes to receive our food and throughout, the staff would avoid eye contact so as avoid the inevitable question: How much longer? All told, our experience took an hour and 45 minutes and we didn't linger after completing our meal. As for the food, it was fine, but certainly not worth the wait. Some advice to the owner: get some bus tubs, stop clearing tables using just your hands to carry dishes, glasses. You take 3 trips to clear a table. Second, get serving trays, as you take 3 trips to serve a table. Lastly, teach your staff to communicate with customers, early and often. Communication is free! read more

I visited here on a Sunday. It was a very quiet afternoon, one other table being served at the time. However, in spite of that, service was extremely slow and we were served our food 30 minutes after ordering. The flavors were well thought and put together, but the food was helpless. Cheese was hardly melted and the meat was still cold. The coffee was adequate, albeit hard to be served more than one cup. The wait staff are nice, but poorly trained, which I believe management is to blame, unfortunately. So overall in terms of the food and drink, it left much to be desired. Props are in order for the nice decor and atmosphere this establishment brings to the area. I do hope that the issues I found can be corrected. A quality restaurant is needed, and the town of Syracuse and surrounding area has suffered too long from inadequate and subpar coffee shops that fail to invest properly. read more

To wrap up a family trip 14 of us chose to go out for breakfast. After getting a recommendation we chose Mugshots. Upon arrival we were quoted a 30 minute wait time. No big deal, many of us have worked in restaurants and know that it's not ideal to spontaneously show up with a group that large. We also have a pretty good understanding on how a restaurant works, so we took a few menus and figured out our order in the meantime. The hostess gave away a table to guests that arrived after us instead of saving it to put it together with another, accommodating all of us. We ended up taking 3 separate tables after waiting the 30 minutes. We were greeted promptly enough, and had our order ready to go, since we were waiting. Unfortunately the server wouldn't take our order right away, and would only bring us drinks. Nothing fancy, juice and milk for the kids and coffee for the two of us, and it took at least 15 minutes to receive them. Still waiting to order, but still wasn't happening. She came back about 10 minutes later to get our order, and to tell us now after nearly an hour of waiting that they were only serving food from the breakfast menu today. Little strange, and threw some of us off, but whatever. We just wanted to eat at this point. After roughly an hour I'm thinking breakfast is fast, we should be getting on with our day shortly. Nope. Several tables around us were getting fed, including the rest of our group who was finishing up and leaving before we got our food (we all ordered at the same time). When it was getting out of hand, our server simply stopped coming to our table and would just run by and shout something like, "almost ready!" Instead of addressing the situation. At this point I'm wondering where the manager is. We have been here at least an hour and a half and the place is complete chaos. Several tables are upset around us, and half of the staff seemed to just be standing around doing nothing. When our food finally did come out, it was dropped off at the wrong table first, and then picked back up to give to us. It was apparent that there was no leader present, and was even more obvious when our server decided that to make up for the horrendous service and lack of attentiveness, she would give us coffee to go "on the house". As if it wasn't already bottomless. Not to mention I had already told her I was done drinking coffee, as I was on an empty stomach and starting to get jittery. She came back another time as she dropped off the check to ask us if the food was worth the wait. When we said no, she went into how it wasn't her fault and pancakes just take up so much space on the grill, and the kitchen was just so backed up. Nobody of authority ever came to speak to us, or anyone as far as I could tell, and not that I mind paying for my food, but $80 for breakfast that took nearly two hours to get is absolutely absurd. The only reason this is a 2 star review is the food was decent. Would never recommend, won't be back. Sad too, because the place is really cute ‍ Sorry DeeDee, and the rest of Mugshots. This place is much, much better than the reviews. We almost didn't go because of them. Nice place, including restrooms. Megan welcomed us the minute we walked in and even provided directions to a great place to play ball with the dogs, so service was outstanding!! We are vegan so breakfast place can be tough but they we happy to accommodate us. We had a big serving of hash browns covered in sautéed vegetables and fresh avocado and spinach. It was accompanied by two wonderful pieces of sourdough toast. Even the tea was higher end tea, pick your own from a box! We highly recommend Mug Shots. We will definitely go back!! Not sure what's going on....Cool Beans (now Mugshots) used to be one of my favorite spots in Syracuse. Mugshots (allegedly the new and improved Cool Beans w/original owners) was something to get excited about but it seems....sadly....I was wrong. I've tried to order the same basic sandwich for pick up SIX times only to be blocked by changing food service times (some days the kitchen closes at 2pm, other days 1:30pm, yesterday it was Noon. When I asked for clarity to avoid the ongoing frustration, I was told 'tomorrow it would be serving until 2pm.' Guess what? Incorrect. Not only were they not servicing lunch at 11:30am, they weren't service lunch at all!) Get it together Mugshots or get ready to lose you business completely (and sadly). Mugshots - you're better than this - I hope. I should add...I went to the 2019 Coffee Depot (formerly Cool Beans in downtown Syracuse) since Mugshots wasn't serving lunch and had the BEST Hawaiian Chicken Salad. read more

One table of two were finishing up their meal, our party of 5 ordered around 12:15 @ 12:52 pm we still had not received our lunch. I spoke to the owner - who had been sitting on the other side of the restaurant oblivious to the lack of service and guess what? My family always loved Cool Beans, I just went along for the ride, the owners were always very friendly. When I heard they opened a bigger better cafe I was excited to check them out. First few visits were good, eggs, hash browns and meat, I can make that at home. Fourth visit at new location our party of 3 were told they only had three eggs left, ok, one in my party ordered the special French toast with apples. I ordered my one egg, hash browns extra crispy and bacon. French toast was essentially toast with canned apples on top. Next visit mom and I missed the noon cut off for breakfast. I ordered a BLT, today the special had turkey on it. It was served panini style with limited amounts of bacon and lettuce and where were the Indiana tomatoes? Most recent visit I ordered a scramble with various vegetables and hash browns. The very friendly waitress didn't write anything down and guess what? I didn't get my order. Try harder please! We've stopped in for breakfast several times. The biscuits and gravy are a refreshing difference from the usual heavy-on-the-sausage type. (You can always get a side of sausage to beef it up if u wish). Easy on the service because they're mostly high school and college kids who are doing a good job. We used to eat at Cool Beans every time we were in town. We've now been to Mug Shots 3 times and have decided not to return. Poor service, WAY to loud, food is disappointing. They really lost their "touch" in the transition from Cool Beans to Mug Shots. It's too bad.
