Loved the patio seating here. Great view of the bike trails and of principal park from the south east side of the river. I ordered the chicken avocado Philly with mixed fries (curly and crinkle cut). Portions were big. The chicken avo Philly tasted great and was very filling. My dining partner ordered the wild Wild West burger with potato salad. The Wild West BBQ is loaded with BBQ sauce. The patty is huge ... A little too big for the bun, but if you like more meat this is the burger for you. I loved the potato salad cause it was sweet with a smoky bacon flavor. My dining partner didn't like it because he prefers more mustard tangy potato salad. Also had the nachos with pulled pork. This was alright, but I think the sandwich was by far the star. Great spot for lunch. We had a great view of the river and saw two bald eagles throughout lunch. that alone is worth a few stars. Food is standard bar fare, and they do it pretty well. Burger was good and I liked the "fries medley" it came with - a mix of curly fries and crinkle cut, which is great for indecisive folks like me. BF had the sweet potato tater tots and I wasn't a fan (despite loving sweet potatoes and tater tots). They just didn't do it for me. The atmosphere is fun too - lots of photos of guys with mullets all over the wall, and the mullet-era music was a nice touch. Service was really friendly and attentive. First time here, recommended by family, wish I had come sooner. Loved the ambience, reminds me of the old Flora-bama bar on the gulf coast. I liked that we could join the waitlist and get text updates on when our table was ready. We were there for breakfast and the food was excellent. I had the Monterey omelette which was perfectly done. Alisha is where it's at! She is just the bee's knees. I've always been in for brunch on busy weekends, which has been great, but tonight was my first dinner weeknight. She gave us great recommendations, let us chat with a friend for a while before ordering, checked in and was ready to give us refills before we even knew we wanted one (but she knew--we always did). Food was great, actually there was an all you can eat boneless wing night tonight for less than the price of 1 order of boneless wings at most places ($7.99 folks! No typo there). Alisha was on top of our boneless order chaos like a champ and kept the baskets coming in hot. They were clearly made to order each time since they were still hot (temp wise) and nice and crispy. This place is so unique. I've visited on two separate occasion and the food has been good. It's not a fine dining experience clearly but it's a unique one. So many things to look at on the walls. The staff has always been friendly. I ordered biscuits and gravy, two eggs on top of has brown left and it was delicious. The cheese curds are also really good! Business in the front and party in the back! Mullets, you're pretty rad. I've only had the pleasure of eating breakfast here on the weekends, and it's hand down delicious! Love this spot and it's fun quirky atmosphere. Although it can be very busy and a little tight that's a good sign right? If you can't find parking in their lot you can park across the street. A lot of people ride their bikes here because it's right off the trail. I've always wanted to eat out on the patio but, it's usually full by the time we get there at 9am. (If the weather is permitting. Good ol' Iowa). They make a great Bloody Mary and I've had the salmon eggs benedict, the mullet hash browns, and the salmon cream cheese omelette. Our one-year-old loved the pancake and my husband really like the meatloaf hash browns. They have pretty good gravy too. Portions are good size and you will always leave here feeling full. Was here last Monday on our bike ride. Great bike trail location. The service was very good and the food was not bad!! Breakfast in particular is my favorite meal here, specifically on Saturday and Sunday, since they serve it until 1 pm. Their chorizo breakfast tacos and breakfast burritos are really good. (This is coming from someone who is Mexican, from San Antonio, Texas, and a breakfast taco snob.) Finally got to try this place for breakfast/brunch!! They were still busy at 9 a.m. on a Friday during the winter, but we were seated right away. We've tried to come here several times during the summer, but it's always packed. I can see why it's so popular. The breakfast menu is huge and has many unique items plus the breakfast food staples. Some breakfast items are marked with an icon that means they are served all day. I tried "The Morning Mullet" (hash browns topped with biscuits, eggs, and gravy). It was pretty good, but not sure I'd order it again because there are so many other things I want to try. My boyfriend got the Breakfast Rarebit ( a breakfast sandwich smothered in cheese sauce). It was a little too cheesy for me even though I love cheese. Dad liked his hungry man breakfast and coffee in a cute random mug. Overall consensus at our table was that the hash browns where the best part of the meal, but all the food was pretty tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here it started with top notch service from LINDSEY. She recommended good local Iowa brews, and the bar also made a great spicy Bloody Mary. The menu was very diverse to accommodate most taste, my wife has celiacs and they offer a great gluten free pizza so she wasn't stuck eating a salad again. I had the Sandburg po'boy which was excellent and probably not something I will ever see on a menu again. All in all next time I'm back in Iowa visiting family I said that this will be a must every time we are in town. read more

Nice little hole in the wall place with an extensive beer menu and full bar. I've had some good and average menu items here. The bbq for the most part is dry with the exception of the ribs. Those are very tasty! The French fries are amazing! Burgers/sandwiches are good as well. Waitstaff is hit and miss. Some are amazing. I had the best waiter I ever had here. He was so good with my kids, attentive, and accommodating! I also had a very young girl who never cleared plates, barley stopped by, and never asked if we wanted drink refills. I am a big fan of this place. It is one of our favorite places for breakfast, especially if that breakfast needs to include a tasty Bloody Mary! The food is always fresh and tasty. For lunch Woody's Smokeshack provides great BBQ as well. The Burnt Ends sandwich is excellent. The brisket, pulled pork, and ribs are all delicious as well. It is also one of my best friend's favorite places for Eggs Benedict. I highly recommend Mullet's, whether you come by car, foot, or bicycle (many cyclists stop at Mullet's for drinks and food). This is a close place that is right off the trails near Principal Park. The service is really hit or miss and the last three times I have come for breakfast I have had to stop the servers in order to get coffee refilled or any attention. Mullets has a great location on the river, right off the bike path. It's close to Principal Park. They have good nachos. It's good for people watching. These are the positives. I used to really enjoy going here until they combined with Woody's Smoke Shack. Since then, I feel the service and the foods I used to enjoy going there for (namely, brunch) have been lacking. Their oatmeal used to be my go to breakfast food, but lately it's been flavorless and over cooked. Today, it took my friend and I 20 minutes, SITTING AT THE BAR, to get our bill. Pretty sweet spot. It's right on a bike path, so I like to pop in for a brew on my rides. They have a beautiful view of Des Moines from their double decker patio, plenty of bike parking, pretty good food, and a lot of fun beer choices.
