We ordered 2 Chicken Thighs with sauce, Black Garlic Ramen, Spicy Garlic Edamame, and Pork Katsu Curry Rice. I think the chicken was cook well retaining the juice and flavor! Broth of the ramen was good and garlicky! The Pork Katsu Curry Rice was great too and the curry is on the sweeter side! They also offer you free dessert if you are celebrating a special occasion! They were so nice and gave us 2 free desserts of our choice! The pudding was a good size and tastes like flan! They also had a lot of ice cream options and I opted for the Lychee Sorbet which had lychee jelly inside!!! The bill was only $50 with everything we ordered! Food is good and service is great! Shoyu ramen is legit great. For me it was as authentic a shoyu ramen you'd find in Tokyo. i don't order shoyu or shio ramen outside of Japan since it is usually absolute shit but i gave it a try after talking with one of the guys that worked there (i think he was the manager or owner). While the garlic shrimp ramen has strong flavors, this shoyu ramen was subtle with good flavor. Don't knock me for this, but their draft beer was unusually good too; they said it has something to do with the way take extra care of the machine. The lemon grass sauce is good with the shoyu ramen but don't dump it all in there at first, enjoy it as is then change it up, its like eating two different dishes. Stopped by this place again since i was in the neighborhood to give it a second go. the service was top notch, just like last time: attentive, quick, and friendly. the server - an unusually short asian girl - was amazing. i believe she threatened me when asking me about ordering dessert but i wasn't sure, never had that happen before . . . needless to say, she was funny and memorable. the recommendation for the shoyu ramen and the lemon grass sauce was spot on. i initially declined both but she set me straight. probably why she threatened me about dessert but i couldn't eat anymore. i'm joking here but you get the drift, the people here are super friendly and professional. linger long enough to fill your water and small banter but quickly off to the next table. I want to give this place 4.5 stars, but I'm rounding up! Ordered a crunch roll as an appetizer ($14), came with 8 pieces and they were pretty large sized. Imitation crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, typical crunch roll, but was definitely a good appetizer to our ramen! The spicy miso tonkotsu ramen was pretty good, but the broth could be a bit more richer and flavorful. The smoked salmon ramen was just so-so. The salmon wasn't the best quality and the broth was a bit on the watery side. The ramen noodles were a good consistency, but they were a bit choppy and not as long as usual. The restaurant ambience is decent. Nothing fancy and just like a typical casual eatery. The service was fair and if you use your Yelp check-in, they will offer you free dessert which is two small scoops of ice cream. Munchie-Ken is a new ramen restaurant that just recently opened in FV that previously was occupied by Fukusuke. They serve fusion ramen with a heavier focus on fish broth for their ramen and after recently having stopped by for dinner, they can certainly make a tasty bowl of ramen! The chef is from Japan having already operated and owned a ramen shop there and has fortunately brought his unique flavors here. I had the Creamy Salmon ramen with spicy miso and it was so good! There was smoked salmon pieces in the bowl and a bigger piece of salmon on top. The broccoli was an unexpected topping that surprisingly worked well with the creamy broth that had a great, deep flavor but wasn't too rich or overpowering. The sweet potato tempura added some good crunch and added more texture to such a good bowl. They also serve other japanese dishes like katsu and sushi rolls but I'll try them on my next lunch or dinner here. There's plenty of seating if you want to bring a group and they also have lunch specials as well! My only gripe is that the ramen here is priced on the higher side with pricing similar to shops in LA. My bowl cost $17.50 after adding the spicy miso paste so that might deter some people from stopping by but the quality is pretty high here so I can understand why it costs more and their fish broths do help them stand out! Overall, I recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner to try something new if you are a fan of ramen, you probably haven't had anything like this before! The black garlic Tonkotsu ramen was super delicious, very light which I love & truly had an amazing broth. I'm so sad. I just know this restaurant will be so so famous and packed with people that I am just lucky to have come here before it happened. I should go again before it gets too crowded. I craved the ramen again the very next day and even right now as I'm writing I'm craving for it. As you can see from the picture uploaded by the restaurant the chef is from Japan and is already an established craftman. Both me and my partner have been to Japan before- and the first bite of the ramen took us back. Which is so interesting because the restaurant sells FUSION ramen. We had Tonkotsu and Creamy Shrimp Garlic Ramen, and Bao as an appetizer. I didn't expect Bao to be so delicious- it's just something you commonly order and don't expect it to stand out. But the bread was so moist and tender and the flavor was great- just savory enough to stimulate your appetite. The Tonkotsu ramen - I would say this is more of a basic, what-you-would-expect menu. Felt more like an introduction to others. Nonetheless it was one of the most delicious Tonkotsu I've ever had. The broth is so clean and light it smoothly goes down your throat but it still packs so much flavor. The noodles are chewy, one of the best I've had. I can eat the noodles all day without the broth. Both my partner and my friend said that they tend to get stomachaches from Tonkotsu ramen broth (sensitive stomach) but this was so light and delicious they had no problem eating. Creamy Garlic Shrimp Ramen- Instantly I knew it was fusion because you see cilantro. Never seen cilantro as a topping so I was very intrigued to try. The broth is so rich in shrimp flavor. Shrimps are cooked to perfect amount and every ingredient in the bowl went so well together. It was creamy but not greasy, garlicy but not overpowering. I'm not a big fan of broccoli but for some reason the broccoli was so delicious. The texture was crunchy and roasted to the right amount and went so well with Ramen which I didn't expect. I just wanted to clarify that there is no Shio/ shoyu or the avg ramen menu you would find elsewhere. Heard some customers complained but I think that's a misunderstanding-it's a fusion restaurant. When you visit, expect something new. Maybe it's a good idea to even read the menu before you come. I did hear that the salmon is the chef's specialty, but I have not yet tried so I guess I'll leave that up to others to review. The restaurant itself is casual. The shrimp themselves was cooked perfectly and had a strong garlic taste. The creamy salmon was rich and milky. I liked the crispy salmon bites they had in the ramen. It had a great texture and I could tell it was smoked. We both got the lunch promotion for $1--chashu bowl and California roll. Both were good and supplemented our meal well. From what I understand, Munchie Ken opened around two weeks ago, and my family and I have already been here twice this week.
